No debates, true...but townhall meetings are not debates....
and it is true that Barack refused all of them. I think it had to do with the format of a town hall meeting. Just my opinion...
A suggestion

I've been thinking about you stating on a public forum/message board that I am the person responsible for threatening you and your family.  I assume these sorts of threats to a person via email are illegal, not sure what the charge would be if brought to litigation, however, I would think that your stating publicly you are sure I'm the person responsible is probably a very bad idea on your part.

I am a 54-year-old grandmother who has never harassed anyone via email.  The closest I have ever come to anything harassment-wise were the ugly emails I got from the former owner of this board.  I still have them.  Please feel free to email me if you have any questions, I have had the same email for about 8 years.  If you truly believe I am the person responsible for terrorizing you and your family I think you should inform the authorities investigating these threats of my personal information so they can assure you I am not the person you have accused me of being.

Suggestion
Gosh, darn it, why don't you get this information post haste to RNC headquarters.  Maybe they can have McCain and Palin start talking about this stuff and  win over a few non-thinking voters in the coming days (if they can stop in-fighting).  Get these "facts" out there!
Just a suggestion s/m
I'd be mighty careful about calling people fools.  You never know who's going to end up the biggest fool.  Someone below said that I would probably come back here and eat crow if I'm wrong.  Count on it.
Suggestion for you...(sm)

They may be more your speed.

She will do well at the debates s/m

I believe she described herself last night as a "pit bull in lipstick."  Biden is already at a disadvantage, he doesn't wear lipstick.  She'll walk all over him.  He is also a pit bull but  they aren't on equal footing.  She's a female. Enter McCain's plan to take the election.

I'm sure there will be, after the debates. nm

This is a ridiculous suggestion
Just like your parents can't make that decision for you Bush can't make those decisions for his daughters. For cryin' out loud, think about it? I don't believe they could sign up for Secret Service issues, because what more could the enemy ask for but a direct chance to take a presidential family member hostage. Have you even thought of the implications of that? I can't believe you all don't think this through before making such absurd suggestions...unbelievable.
Good suggestion

This is spiteful juvenile behavior and when children act out or show off you do not reward them with more attention.  You try to ignore them and if that doesn't work give them a time-out and banish them to their rooms.  Any attention she gets is obviously encouraging this person to keep at it. I say we starve her.

post debates

since your first post you have attacked liberals and liberal ideology.  either you are a neocon or an unhappy liberal.  either way, post positive things and I and others will respond..post debates and I and others will debate..dont come on this board and attack..

I can't wait for the debates...sm
And yeah...I agree Hillary lost her thunder when it became evident she was robbing Peter to pay Paul.

can't wait for the debates

A constitutional lawyer is pretty . . . good . . . in debates.

Correction...about 22 debates....nm

I don't see why the debates should be canceled.
They are a big deal and I would think now both of them would want us to know where they stand, how they can do under pressure, etc. Bush debated in time of war. Reagan debated in time of war.

I'm not bashing him or calling him chicken as it has been implied. I just think now is the perfect time to hear from the people who are supposed to represent us, especially considering one of them is going to be the next President. Postponing them is not going to help the economy at all, if anything it is just going to cause more speculation, which I personally am tired of - on both sides.

I wish he would extend that halting campaign thing to all of the commercials. I could certainly live with a break from all of those - on both sides. Thank God for DVR and recording everything, I can just forward them. :)
He said this during the debates - I hear him -
Obama said then that things he wanted to do would have to slow down and take a different timetable because of the economic conditions. That he knew choices would have to be made on what could go forward when.
Suggestion from a newbie to this board
Can we just not respond to them, a.k.a. ignore them? I know it is VERY hard, but just don't respond.

As I read in another post, there is no way we are going to change each other's opinions. A good debate is good, but when it gets ugly, and it usually does, it's just not worth wasting time.
Doubt they will follow your suggestion.
nm
The power of suggestion I guess...nm
nm
Good idea. I second that suggestion.
Thanks.
Their suggestion would be a great big "duhhh"
Very similar to W's approach.
Good suggestion, I agree with you on that one..nm

Every time we offer a suggestion
we get laughed at and told we are asking for handouts.

I still believe that the best way to revive the banks is to go through the homeowners. Isn't bailing out and giving money to the big buisnesses still essentially trickle down economics? It's going to take too long for this stimulus to reach the average citizen. By then too many people will be without a job/home/food, etc.

Who's been having *nice debates* here this week?

When you people bring your rudeness to this board, it's never nice.

I'd like to hear from one liberal poster here on the LIBERAL BOARD who thinks you are nice.

are you really that afraid of open debates you need to
reduce yourself to name-calling?

I am unsure who to vote for but one thing I know is it will be for whoever is going to make my life better.

Democrats might tax but the taxes go toward social programs, libraries, schools, afterschool programs, playgrounds, all of which are almost nonexistent where I live now since the last 8 years. Rich people walk around here like they are royalty, they pay no taxes and have no care or interest I helping those less fortunate, spare the very few who do.

the more I see on TV and the more I read on boards like these it seems to me republicans are afraid of democrats. when you see Bush sneering and snickering (many examples on youtube) he is not doing that towards democrats, he is laughing behind the backs of all the republicans who believe his lies. I think the joke is actually on the republicans more than democrats.

I have never seen such people be taken advantage of, and love it so much.

send your children off to war to die, give up all your social programs, take more out of your pocket, all so the rich people can slither around this country at their will with no responsibility toward it. that is left to the poor and the nonwhites.

I am starting to see the bigger picture here, I think Republicans do not believe in social programs because of greed, because no one should be able to make money unless you have the right skin color. Say, how many blacks in Alaska, anyway?

lets all lie down and just die for the rich republicans. here, take my money, my children, my hopes and dreams, my pride - just take it all and make sure to give me absolutely nothing back. Right on!
We will see on Friday. No teleprompters at debates. nm
.
Thanks for your suggestion, but I don't want to trade one non-secure site for another.

I'm looking for a site where the administrator is neutral and ethical and doesn't threaten people with their ISP numbers.

If there is one out there, I'd appreciate knowing about it.

As far as your posting here, that's your decision.  I couldn't care less because I'm only staying on this board long enough to see if anyone else it appalling that an administrator would track ISP numbers of posters for telling the truth about their employer.  Then I won't be coming back any more, to any of the boards here.

And thanks for finally being honest and saying it's your preference, instead of the disingenuous I'll leave.  Are you happy now? type comments that I doubt anyone believed, anyway.

We've been having nice debates over there this week
and I know gt enough to know she couldn't be hounded of a maximum security prison shower. I personally don't command anyone to leave unless they are childish enough to start calling people losers or other names like that.
No debates yet because neither one has been officially nominated as the candidate! nm

Debates---sara palin looks terrified!!
Alaska!!! I don't even know where Joe Biden is from and I don't care!!!
I think you picked the wrong time to make such a suggestion...nm
nm
Just peeked in on the Conservative board, looking for some *nice debates*

All I saw were you guys *applause applause*-ing each other and the usual ragging on all liberals.  Then I saw ONE courageous soul who attempted to debate with you, followed by the usual and customary *stay off the board* warnings to the poster.

So it seems you guys consider nice debate as ganging up and attacking posters who disagree with you.

Maybe that's the problem here.  We view nice debate in two different ways.

We view it as being nice to other posters and not personally attacking those who disagree with us.  We don't claim to know what they are thinking and feeling in their minds and hearts, and we find those who insist on being nasty to others very distasteful and crude.  We don't LIKE to act the way that you neocons act.  We'd rather be friendly and civilized. That's why you're not welcome here.  It's not because of what you believe.  It's because you are unable to act like decent human beings, and you don't know how to treat other people.

If I remember correctly, in the debates he said he would be happy to pay more taxes.
x
Heard that before.
When was that? Oh yeah! Gee, I really miss Nan, I wish she'd come back to the board. LOL!!!

I apologize to those who don't know what I'm talking about - again, the guilty party knows full well.

Anyway how's this for a subject? - The mayor New Orleans was a Republican before he ran, and switched his party affiliation to Democrat before he was successfully elected. Landreau is a Democrat. The Louisiana governor is a Democrat. Seems we have a lot of democratic leaders in an otherwise supposedly Republican state.

Wonder what effect if any that has had on the slow and disinterested response from the federal govt. in helping the people of New Orleans?
Everybody's heard of her now, eh?
That was a long article, but I think it did highlight the fact that Bush is neither a friendly or a courteous guy - insiders have been saying that for years. Can't use the excuse that he didn't want some antiwar journalist raking him over the coals - that kind of journalist would never have been allowed within the same building as he, if she had that kind of reputation.

It seems clear that the Bushes consider themselves American Royalty and that's unfortunate, because America was born from a resentment of just that kind of above-the-law holier-than-thou don't- speak-until-he-does kind of nonsense.
This is the first I heard of this.
Thanks for posting it.  I love the title, Water the Bushes.  :-)
Have you heard this one before?
The proof is in the pudding.
That's because I have heard sm
holding one's breath until one turns blue tends to affect cognition. But I have only heard that, I am not sure there is any truth to it.  Would you happen to know?
I heard that.
It was published in some conservative magazine but was unfounded. He never went to school in Africa at all. The magazine said that they got it from the Clinton campaign. I am wondering since when did a conservative publication print anything the Clinton campaign has to say. Anyway, I still think knowing first hand something about Muslims and Islam would be beneficial.
Well, I have heard

that it is "HARD WORK" and he is "WORKIN HARD"   I know this is true coz this is what he told us in the last prez debate.

only heard a little of it, but
apparently did not realize he had a "hot" mike and said something about obama may be talking down to the black communities. now it has been "taken out of context" and he has apologized and made it clear he supports obama.
Sorry. I did not know that. Had not heard that.
I will post link from now on. My apologies.
No....the last I heard they really don't know...
who is going to speak when. I had not heard he cancelled. Several have been postponed because of the hurricane.
I heard this, but....
I heard the story too. I have not been able to find a credible source to be able to acknowledge or deny it. But I think she would have some very very serious problems. I remember some religious leaders were trying to ban the Harry Potter books and there was a huge uproar. People may think she's going to do this or that, but I think we have to remember she has to get approval from congress. The VP alone cannot make these decisions and pass laws. It would have to be voted on.

I heard what he said....he did not say the...
economy was strong, that is not what he said this morning. He said the foundation of the economy is strong, and it is, or the situation on wall street today would have been much worse. He, in fact, said that the economy was in crisis and it needed to be dealt with in the way of reforming of lending companies, regulating non-bank lenders, etc. (non-bank meaning lenders not backed by the FDIC)...which all makes very good sense, since all these lenders folding and the housing decline have more to do with the economy going downhill than anything else. At least he is not talking about raising taxes on already stressed companies like Mr. Obama is.

And come to think of it...how can Obama give a tax break to 95% of people when right about 40% don't even pay taxes? How can you give a tax break to someone who doesn't pay taxes anyway? Oh yeah...you tax the companies that provide about 80% of the jobs in this country and give those 40% a freebie. And somehow that is supposed to help?
I heard
I heard reports he did not quit.
as you may have heard

long ago in pre-history class,  the prez and VP work FOR us.  If they want the job, they have to communicate with us, even when they don't like it or are having problems with Todd.

Here is what I heard
Okay, I've been working all day but DH has had the TV up full blast (he's a news junkie), so have caught things here and there.

My understanding is this (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I don't want to pass on false information).

JM and BO both go to WA and there is a big meeting with the pres and all the other people. I heard that things were "cordial" when the press was in taking pictures but once they left there was yelling, arguing, fists pounding on desks, etc, etc. I heard it did not end very good at all and people ended leaving and sounds like some people won't talk to others. My understanding is that the democrats proposed a solution, but it didn't hold the responsible parties responsible, and what they submitted would still let the CEOs and higher up people walk away with all their money and the American people would be left the ones who pay for the bail out. I understand the republicans said no it wasn't good enough and JM refused to back down and said the American people should not be the ones to pay for this. I've heard a lot of other people talk and they said it was not a good proposal at all.

I believe (again this is what I think and have caught from tid bits here and there) that JM wants to stay in WA until this crisis is worked out but BO wants a debate no matter what and he wanted to hurry to get where ever the debate is and he ended up telling the people "Call me if you need me" and then left.

That's my understanding on it. I've been listing to all the news stations and cannot even begin to tell you what all the people said about this because they say it so much better than I ever could. But that is my brief summary.

I was just stunned thinking this is a major major crisis and it needs to be resolved and BO doesn't want to stick around and says "Call me if you need me".

All I say is brother, what a mess we have.
I heard
They were threated with martial law if they did not vote for it.

Something that I have heard nothing about...sm

is medical care of veterans coming back from Iraq and Afganistan.  Their injuries are so severe that in prior wars they would be dead.  Now they are coming back alive but so severely injured, brain injuries, limb loss, PSD, etc.  The veterans should come first, along with their families, national guard, regular army, navy, air force and marines.  They should be getting the best care that money can buy, not only for their acute injuries, but for their rehabilitation.  It is a disgrace that they become invisible when they come home.

Sorry, I never heard his name.
Republican radio talk show host?  Well, why does that not surprise me?
