Not a new concept

all kinds of stuff.  Bush was blamed for Katrina (blowing up the levees and then deliberately not sending aid) and 9/11 (it was an inside job, you know - Ask Rosie O'Donnell.)  According to a popular conspiracy theory, AIDS was created by the US government in the late 1970s (Carter's watch - go figure) to kill black people. Only fair to *spread the wealth,* so to speak, when blame is assigned and give Obama his share.

Hey wait a minute!  Maybe none of these conspiracy theories is true and stuff just happens?

Do you understand the concept of some? SM
Apparently not.  Evident on the board....let's see, how about wishing all the Bush family to burn in hell for starters?   How about accusing Laura Bush of being drunk when she was driving and her friend was killed?  Hummmm....how about saying repeatedly that President Bush planned 9/11 for his own nefarious reasons?  And the list goes on.   As far as Judge Robert's son, the NYT article was discussed on here and had you read it and the followup, you would know this is being discussed.  The word SOME means NOT ALL.   Look outside the box.
exercise - what a concept

Put down that liter of diet coke and that supersize bag of Cheetos and meet me at the teeter totter.

Do you understand that concept of
The economy, national security and human rights as promoted in the EU and US are SECULAR concepts. When contemplating international relations, it would be best to keep that in mind.
Clearly, the concept of NWO is not monolithic.
In the brevity of this article, the author cited 5 entirely different models as expressed by HG Wells, the American Presidents/League of Nations (LON), W, conspiracy theorists (CTs) on the blogosphere, and Kissinger. These separate sets of ideas are not interchangeable, nor are the mutually exclusive.

A common feature of Wells (benevolent global social democracy), W (imperial capitalism) and the CTs (a wildly elaborate weave of systemic paranoia and fear-based theories that defy logic or precise definition) is the idea of world domination, while the LON and Kissinger models are grounded in international diplomatic cooperation and, to a large extent, would preserve national sovereignties.

Supporters of the W and CTs models are pathologically phobic vis-a-vis the initiatives and agendas of the Wells, LON and Kissinger models. Resolution of territorial disputes, peace and security, disarmament, basic human dignities, human rights and humanitarian aid, definition, apprehension and prosecution of war crimes, outlawing torture, fighting global hunger, disease, illiteracy, educational and economic parity and such, all WAY too threatening for them.

You and I both know that the fringers, gloom and doom and Armageddon brigades will get themselves all whipped up into a frenzy over this, but apparently Kissinger has mellowed in his old age and is able to recognize a gifted leader with the capacity to renew our aspirations towards such lofty diplomatic goals and get back in touch with our higher purpose.

A NWO is in order. The time is now to make a clean and distinct break with the past. The leader is there and the conditions are ripe for fruition. It will drive the detractors to distraction and despair, but they cannot hold back the hands of time any more than they can stop the evolution of the human race.

Are you familiar with the concept of
For example, African Americans, who are 1 in 13 of our pupulation, comprise every 2 out of 3 death row inmates. Do you honestly think they commit 2 out of every 3 murders punishable by the death penalty?

If a truly a serious discussion is to be had on this topic, the racism practiced in the criminal justice system when it comes to arrest, sentencing, time served, parole and execution rates disparities must be factored into the equation before assuming that the AA population commmits 40% of the nation's crime.

To answer your question, I do believe that Obama will make the greatest strides to date of leveling the playing field in the education, health care and poverty arenas and that it will undoubtedly enable that sector of the population to which you refer to strive to achieve better/higher goals by their own initiatives. He has already had a huge impact there just by virtue of having been elected and in the future, I believe his lead by example approach to this will have an even greater impact. I also think his message of hope rings the loudest where it is needed the most.
Very disturbing concept.
I don't believe it will pass the constitutional smell test, but you're right to be concerned about the potential for abuse - i.e., being used against citizens in the name of "national security". This very possibility is the reason the military services are strictly prohibited from conducting anything but humanitarian operations within the contintental US. It is also one of the reasons we have never had a federal police agency (as opposed to federal investigative and special enforcement agencies).

The record of such paramilitary organizations in other countries is rife with examples of abuse and we should absolutely march in the streets if necessary to prevent such an organization from ever being formed in this country.
Are you a politician?
cuz that nonsense you just typed sounds like something ignorant a politician would say.
Do you have any concept of what abuse of power is?
if you can turn off the hate machine long enough to remember how to do it. It was not Governor Palin's role to interfere in divorce/custody proceedings. Sister Palin could not have done what Governor Palin tried to do. She abuse the power of her office. We have already had 8 years of that kind of malarky. Most of us are not up for another 4. Got it?
Politician comments

This is one thread I can't help posting to.  First, I want to say that I absolutely hate the new p.c. term "clearly."  Clearly this, clearly that from news anchors, talk show hosts, you name it.

As for the comment by Michelle Obama, if she is proud of her country "for the first time" then she's running a little late in my opinion.  I've been a Democrat all my life but no more.  The color of the candidate's skin has nothing whatsoever to do with anything, I don't care if he is pea green with orange stripes.  Obama scares the bejeezers out of me!!  Read about him and listen to him and learn.  I'll not be voting for him.  I would not have voted for Hillary.  Why?  Doesn't matter if she's a woman or not.  I have no respect for her.  I certainly don't admire her for standing by her man.

As for McCain, his stupid comment I think speaks for itself and doesn't show a lot of intelligence.  Secondly, he is too old.  While I admire his military service, I think if we like the condition of our country now, we'll enjoy more of the same and worse under his leadership.

Listen to both politicians.  They both want to give amnesty to illegal aliens and I am dead set against it.  Reagan (and I'm no fan of his either) tried that and now we have at least twice as many to deal with as we did then.  It is purely political, get the votes whereever they can.

Then there's the matter of our country being sold off to foreign investors one piece at a time and the huge national debt to China.  What happens when they call in their mortgage?  Will they demand, California, Texas and maybe Alaska or will they just take over the whole danged country?

As for voting in this election?????  I probably will  just stay home for the first time since I've been old enough to vote.  We don't even have a candidate to vote for that is the lesser of the evils in my opinion.  I think the last good leader we had was Harry Truman, "walk softly and carry a big stick."

me too -- being VP doesn't take a politician,
it requires a person with judgment, intelligence, ethics, knowledge about many things, decision-making ability, courage, fortitude, a core morality, etc. She has all these, plus many first-hand experiences and management skills that will help her relate to the ordinary person/person's plight. Yes, many of us have these qualities, at least in part, but she seems to have a double-dose and also the ability to generate excitement and enthusiasm, and is articulate as well. and SHE has been brought into this position based upon her achievements and abilities, unlike you or I, for whatever reasons. She is far from 'just another woman' candidate. I like her a lot. Of course, time will tell as we progress through the election process, but i am fully expecting her to knock Biden's socks off in a debate. I think many of you nay-sayers ought to take another good hard look and see, just see if this McCain/Palin ticket isn't the REAL ticket for change in Washington -- 2 people who in their own right have bucked the system in favor of doing what they see as fit for the people they serve. It's definitely not our ordinary ticket, while Obama has shown himself to be just another politican who has never politically gone against his party or status quo, and changes his tune with the wind of opinion...
Then you need to put every politician in the same boat
They all have said conflicting things. Every one of them on both sides. Again that's why I say she has done nothing. But maybe I should have said she has done nothing that the other candidates haven't done.
It could be worse - you could be a politician!
*
Every politician should be required...
To take one year of American history and one year of world history before ever being allowed to run for any kind of public office. Then maybe they wouldn't keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again.
I am not happy with any politician

who misuses taxpayer dollars whether it is for sex or whatever the reason may be.  I personally feel that our government is trying to tax us to death while they continue to do nothing but spend and, IMO, that is misusing taxpayer dollars as well.

If Ensign misused taxpayer dollars....nail him.  If Sanford did....nail him.  You seem willing to give Clinton a free pass just because he didn't penetrate Lewinsky with his own pecker.  Nevermind that he lied under oath.  As for Edwards, his wife was supposed to have been dying from cancer when he diddled another woman.  That is his own personal business but you can't get much lower than that.

When it comes to pubs with some of you people, they can't sneeze wrong without some of you guys picking them apart.  You went after Palin because her daughter had premarital sex and got knocked up.  I'm sure none of you had sex before marriage either, huh?  Here we have President Obama breaking campaign promise after campaign promise and all you can say in defense is that we are getting our news only from Fox News or you instantly assume we are pubs.  Not all of us are pubs and many of us get our news from many news sources and not just Fox.

Funny how Barney Frank can screw us over with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and hire a guy he was getting sexual favors from (could be the reason why Frank refuses to get dentures) and that was all fine and he still (for some God awful reason) holds the position that he has.

Agreed. Problem is that concept consistently
nm
The concept is similar to any group plan.
without compromising the care. It is the FEHB (Federal Employees health Benefits) program. It is really good coverage, low deductibles, several choices. Heres the home page website:

WELFARE for the country as a nation, what a concept.....sm
a president with who is really fighting to find a way for the suffering folk, those that are down and out, or should we "just let them eat cake," Marie Antoinette? Now there's a leader who used her head, right to the chopping block, and it seems that the corporate raiders who raped this country into this mess were thinking the same thing, "Hey, I got mine!!"
You will never find a politician that does not "misspeak."
For what is worth, this seemed to be more of a "family story" that he probably heard as a kid.
jealous of a politician? that's funny
a political choice rather than her being chosen on her own merits. She's only the VP b/c she has a vajay jay...
He would make a good politician.
He's flip-flopping already!!!
Well, I don't trust any politician anymore
It seems they're only out to rip us off. As soon as I heard of this "buying" votes, the idea of the O  coming so quick from nothing to president elect and was from Illinois gave me the idea that he bought his seat. I've been watching the news and maybe that's what they do in Illinois without realizing it's wrong. After all, there have been so many politicians from there that have been indicted for political crimes, I'm thinking that it's a natural way of doing "business" there. Even the governor  doesn't think he did anything wrong. Are they a different country and we don't know it?
Hey just me....I agree with you both....and one decent politician....sm
that I can name appears to be Bobby Jindal, republican governor of Louisiana.

What I find so interesting, is that there are lists and lists of corrupt Republican politicians and they are always run out on a rail, even when sometimes the corruption is made up, and yet the stigma remains, and they still resign.... and yet you are very hard to put to find a democrat corruption list.

Why?

Probably because when a democrat is corrupt, they usually stay in office, and no one prosecutes them, and they think they've done no wrong, even when it's the same thing that their rep counterparts have done. At least Louisiana has finally outsted Wm Jefferson, the dem with thousands of dollars in his freezer. Then there's the guy who had a relationship with his male page, another dem, can't remember his name. There are few other dems that have come to justice and have resigned, but the rest of them remain in office, business as usual.

It's too bad that any corrupt politician, republican or democrat or independent, seem to think they're above the law...until they're caught at it.....and even then, as I said, the dems, with the liberal media being enablers, tend to side step any wrong doing.

I wish sam was around. She could name them off in her sleep. My husband can also name them off, but I get so disgusted I stop listening. If the rest of the country doesn't care that their politicians are corrupt, and keep electing them, what can you do?

Here's a couple lists I found, but that's all I could find on a quick search, and they are from 2006 and 2007. Notice the dems on the lists....

Sounds like the perfect politician to me -- too bad

So right you are. All a politician has to say is check in the mail...
and the voters line up behind them, while those who put their life on the line everyday for us get short shrift. Let O give all those homeless a check, maybe then I won't see so many of them with their ridiculous signs on the street corners any more. Meanwhile, DH and I will get taxed more for our hard work. Again I say, what a country!
Another Politician Doesn't Pay Taxes.......

Top 5 Reasons it Sucks to Be Sarah Palin

"
Over the past week, a fresh new trove of Sarah Palin stories has been offered up to the American people, making plain, once again, that meteoric fame often comes with a hefty pricetag. In the five months since she was plucked from relative obscurity to become John McCain's running mate, Palin has resided on the very sharp blade of a double-edged sword. With her pit bull campaign role, delivering the harshest lines of attack against Barack Obama, Palin quickly became a woman that you loved, or loved to hate. Well, that hasn't changed. But a few recent developments, as magnified by the ever-present media magnifying glass, are making Palin's glass feel a little more half-empty.

1. Back taxes. From the Anchorage Daily News, comes word that Sarah Palin must pay back income taxes on upwards of $17,000 in per diem expenses (meals, lodging, etc.) that she charged to the state of Alaska while living in her own Wasilla home. No exact word on how much the Governor will have to fork over. On the bright side, the ADN article goes on to say that it seems like nobody in Alaska politics, Democrats included, really pays their taxes properly (following a national trend).

2. New enemies. The Washington Post details Palin's awkward reunion with state legislators:

A number of factors seem to have contributed to the bumpy homecoming: a residual anger among Democrats for the attack-dog role Palin assumed in the McCain campaign, lingering resentment from Republicans for the part she may have played in McCain's defeat and a suspicion crossing party lines that the concerns of Alaska, at a time of economic crisis, will now be secondary to her future in national politics.

3. Lack of privacy. Just as Hollywood movie stars, while giving interviews, often complain that they have no privacy, so too must the Palin family grapple with the simultaneous lure and repulsion of flashing cameras. This week, Bristol Palin decided she wanted to relay lots of personal details to Greta van Susteren about the birth of her son, and her feelings on how sexual abstinence is not "realistic" for teenagers. And the governor herself, interviewed by People magazine and in a new biography disclosed that she'd hid the news that she was pregnant with her son Trig from her own family until the final weeks before his birth. (Tommy has more).

4. Stimulus. She hates the stimulus bill, and will build new roads to prove it. Before President Obama signed the stimulus bill into law, Palin declared that he should veto it. Why? It contained too much wasteful spending. Well, that seems like an odd criticism given that Palin is now proposing to build a road to Nome that will cost an estimated $4 million per mile.

5. Ashley Judd and Planned Parenthood. Governor Palin is a potent symbol, and, like Hillary Clinton before her, she has become a sure fire way to raise money and attention for groups or individuals who staunchly disagree with her views. Consider the attention she has brought to the practice of aerial hunting, and the cash she continues to raise for Planned Parenthood.

I would take Bush any day over this fake politician.
nm
You seem confused, dear. Militant is a military concept.
As soon as you and your party sports its bigotry and hate toward an entire religious population and their culture, attempt to pass it off as some sort of twisted, chest-beating patriotism, add insult to injury by labeling that patriotism as an universal American value and then proceed to use that to justify defaming a fellow American of such extraordinary class and character, you have earned every single drop of anger that you receive in return.

Wanna know who is truly angry and bitter? That would be those "lower bracket" citizens who have lost their homes, are 3 months behind on their mortgage payments, are unemployed, have been outsourced and sold out by their own government and are not making a living wage in an economy of runaway housing, gas, food, drug and medical costs. They are the ones who will be giving the boot to the party that would expect them to endure 4 more years of being lied to about the obscene, senseless wars they wage, politics of fear, corporate corruption and bankrolling tax cuts to help their struggling rich upper crusts and prop up their their trickle up economic schemes. We are down to counting lame duck days in measures of months, weeks, days, minutes and seconds. We have jumped the Hope Train to a better, brighter future and our destination is just around the bend.
Pathetic is knee-jerk support of a concept
just as long as you think it will serve some sort of political gain. If you can't defend you, your party of its candidate can't explain or defend their viewpoints, how then can they expect to win an election. I'm pathetic because I am calling you and the rest of the posters here to simply explain what it is they are endorsing? NOT.
So souls are inhaled at the hospital? Interesting concept. (sm)
I don't think any of the Jewish people I know believe that but I will ask them.
Whoa, that is actually like a Christmas Present from the IRS, what an unheard of concept!!!....sm
True, you can do it yourself, the IRS just makes so daunting and intimidating with all those forms, and then you worry if you make another mistake, you will get another penalty.....Just those three letters together give most folk the heebie geebies.

Also, taling about not needing a service, most people do not know that you DO NOT need those miriad of services who will "talk down your credit bills" and renegotiate. Especially in these times, banks are very eager to get payment and work with you, most banks have a "hardship" department where you can talk to reps who can negotiate lower settlements, eliminate fees, figure out a very good payment plan without fees, etc. You can do it yourself without paying a debt relief service.
Not as scary as a career politician with ties...
to all kinds of questionable characters, who has zero executive experience, showed up to vote present the majority of the time therefore not having to make a decision...can't vote present in the oval office. She has more experience than he does...fact is fact. And she is not running for pres...HE is. He is in the chair day one. SCARY indeed.
Oprah calls O "The One". The man is a politician,

Not only do I have a thicker skin - I also have a FULLY DEVELOPED brain-what a concept!!

I know it's hard a concept for the dems/libs, but Rush says what he means.

He doesn't sugar coat.  He's got his problems, but he owns them.  He doesn't dance around them, sweep them under the carpet, double talk his way out of it.  I mean, we aren't going to wake up tomorrow and find out Rush has been hanging with terrorists, is a closet muslim, or the antichrist.

There's a certain honesty to Rush that some people like and others don't.

Corporate greed, politician back-scratching,

no courage in the Senate
They all voted for it.  Democrats and Republicans.  Let's all come together and get rid of these guys.  Lets vote for Nader. At least he has some integrity
senate bill

this is all way over my head... anyone make any sense of it who is willing to share?

That would be the US Senate....same place as McC

Senate seats

I thought senate seats belonged to the state that person resided in.  And I thought the people who fill the seats are picked by the people of their states in a vote.  These DC people are acting as though their seats are to be handed down to their family members as though they are Royalty.  Last I knew I didn't think we lived in a Monarchy, but now I'm beginning to wonder.  Bill Clinton is now "suggesting" Hillary's old seat should go to Chelsea Clinton?  Impeached Bill should have no say in who the senate seat goes to.  The Clintons don't want Caroline Kennedy to fill it because Caroline backed Obama.  This is rediculous.  They think they are entitled to these positions.  My feeling is that the senate seat should be filled with someone who is qualified from that state.  Not family members of family members of family members.  Caroline Kennedy should run for the seat when the time to run comes up.  Not be placed there because her name is Kennedy.  As for Chelsea?  Talk about someone with NO skills or qualifications to fill the position.  She has worked for a manager at some Hedge fund company.  She is a total id!ot.  Just because daddy was the Prez and mommy held the senate position, does not mean that Chelsea is qualified.  And certainly just because she attended a lot of mommy's fund raising events doesn't mean she's qualified.  Blimey, why not let Obama's daughter take his old senate seat.

I heard someone describe our government as an aristocracy.  There are so many people who are qualified for the positions, but they will never get appointed because they are not rich or don't have the "name' or in the club.  I also heard that someone is sitting in Biden's old senate seat "keeping it warm" until Biden's son comes back from the service where he will just waltz in and the seat will be his.  All I can say is W-T-F??????

Like I say, I thought senate seats were appointed by people who vote for the candidates to fill the seat.  Now I'm hearing seats are just being given to the children and relatives of the ones who held the seat before them.  Tell me there isn't something wrong with what is going on.  Cripes!  We got rid of Bill (finally), sort of got rid of Hillary, and now little miss Chelsea is trying to weezle her way into the scene via mommy and daddy to get there.

I am really disgusted with the political scene.

Will Ferrell for senate! (sm)
At least he has a thong with the stars and stripes on it! (If anyone reading this missed this SNL, youtube Will and Casual Friday)
It passed the Senate........... sm

Now it's on to the House-Senate negotioations.  I just hope we can stand this as a nation.

Bailout dies in Senate.........sm
It's over, at least for this year.  I don't know, and the article did not state, whether there will be more talks after the first of the year.

http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE4B50CL20081212?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews
That was in his Illinois senate term...
this one was in the US Senate. Yeah, he shows up for the important votes like against the Infant Born Alive Act...twice...and now we find out FOR the bridge to nowhere and AGAINST Katrina victims. Still makes me question his judgments and his priorities. Sorry, that is the way I see it.
He spent most of his time in senate
running for president. It is a shame the people of socialism did not even get proper representation from him. Anyone else with a job to do would be expected to actually DO the job. What's he going to run for if he actually does win the presidency? World Socialization and kissing cousins with terroists?
He makes money outside of the senate -
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23796726/

his tax returns have been released. The link above kind of breaks it down - but he does not make $4 million a year. But his books do sell pretty darn good...
He knows DC, knows how to get results, Congress, Senate,
Yeah. Sounds like a real scary threat. Do qualified, highly skilled and immensely experienced people such as this always intimidate you so?
Senate document 06-570 supposedly
verifies this info, but I searched and couldn't find it. Maybe someone smart can find this.
Very concerned. Senate acts like
for not paying his taxes. If I did not pay my taxes can I just have a slap on the hand too?

All I care about is that Mr. G. knows what he is doing and hope it works for our economy. I think Mr. G. is the one who has the most difficult job right now with our economy and housing market. Hope he knows how to distribute money, etc., because he sure has heck does not know how to pay his taxes.
