Some things never change...

War Crimes Even Helen Keller Could See
By Mickey Z.

In a textbook example of whitewashing, if today's America knows Helen Keller (1880-1968) at all, it's the easy-to-digest image portrayed in the 1962 film, 'The Miracle Worker.' Brave deaf and blind girl 'overcomes' all obstacles to inspire everyone she meets. 'The Helen Keller with whom most people are familiar is a stereotypical sexless paragon who was able to overcome deaf-blindness and work tirelessly to promote charities and organizations associated with other blind and deaf-blind individuals,' writes Sally Rosenthal in Ragged Edge.

But, in 1909, Helen Keller became a socialist. Soon after, she emerged as a vocal supporter of the working class and traveled the nation to voice her opposition to war. 'How can our rulers claim they are fighting to make the world safe for democracy,' she asked, 'while here in the U.S. Negroes may be massacred and their property burned?' Of course, as a woman with disabilities, she was patronized by the same mainstream media that previously championed her as a heroine. The editors of the Brooklyn Eagle wrote: 'Her mistakes spring out of the manifest limitations of her development.'

Keller minced no words in her responses...one of which appeared in newspapers across America: 'So long as I confine my activities to social services and the blind, the newspapers compliment me extravagantly, calling me an 'arch-priest of the sightless' and 'wonder woman'. But when I discuss poverty and the industrial system under which we live that is a different matter.'

As the militaristic frenzy spread across America, Keller appeared at New York City's Carnegie Hall on January 5, 1916. 'I have a word to say to my good friends, the editors, and others who are moved to pity me,' she said. 'Some people are grieved because they imagine I am in the hands of unscrupulous persons who lead me astray and persuade me to espouse unpopular causes and make me the mouthpiece of their propaganda. Now, let it be understood once and for all that I do not want their pity; I would not change places with one of them. I know what I am talking about. My sources of information are as good and reliable as anybody else's. I have papers and magazines from England, France, Germany and Austria that I can read myself. Not all the editors I have met can do that. Quite a number of them have to take their French and German second hand. No, I will not disparage the editors. They are an overworked, misunderstood class. Let them remember, though, that if I cannot see the fire at the end of their cigarettes, neither can they thread a needle in the dark. All I ask, gentlemen, is a fair field and no favor. I have entered the fight against preparedness and against the economic system under which we live. It is to be a fight to the finish, and I ask no quarter.'

Keller's critique of the government propaganda campaign to stir up Americans to support U.S. intervention in the war remains more germane than ever. 'Every modern war has had its root in exploitation' Keller said. 'The Civil War was fought to decide whether the slaveholders of the South or the capitalists of the North should exploit the West. The Spanish-American War decided that the United States should exploit Cuba and the Philippines. The South African War decided that the British should exploit the diamond mines. The Russo-Japanese War decided that Japan should exploit Korea. The present war is to decide who shall exploit the Balkans, Turkey, Persia, Egypt, India, China, Africa. And we are whetting our sword to scare the victors into sharing the spoils with us. Now, the workers are not interested in the spoils; they will not get any of them anyway.'

She urged workers-the ones who do the fighting and dying-to strike at the heart of America's drive toward war. 'Strike against war, for without you no battles can be fought,' she declared. 'Strike against preparedness that means death and misery to millions of human beings. Be not dumb, obedient slaves in an army of destruction. Be heroes in an army of construction.'

Excerpted from the soon-to-be-released '50 American Revolutions You're Not Supposed to Know: Reclaiming American Patriotism.'

LOL, well some things never change. SM
Sounded to me like you said VN and Korea were civil wars, but it must be a Republican thang!
Ohhh, things will change
This country will turn into a welfare country so fast you won't know what hit you until you have been drained dry financially, unable to support yourself, because Obama wants to commit to billions of dollars of more SOCIAL programs. Now, of course,we know what that means, more taxes for those of us who actually work to pay for those who really don't care to. Well, I can guarantee you with all the handouts he wants to give to the tune of billions of dollars, the few rich folks left in this country who already pay for them, will NOT be able to support them anymore, because there won't be enough left from anyone to support all of Obama's programs. All he talks about is programs, programs, programs. He is perfectly happy turning this country into a welfare state where everybody is dependent on our precious government to make our decisions for us and tell us when and how we can do/say anything. Just because you don't like McCain shouldn't mean you vote for someone who has already stated all of the above out of his own mouth; this is not made up facts, these are his facts. Obama wants just as many people as possible to stay ignorant, uneducated, and uninformed, all the while voting for him just because his is black or just because they want change, or just because they hear more handouts and think,"Wow, I can live more years without working and have more children and let the 'rich folks' take care of us. I don't know where you live, but I can guarantee you that in my neck of the woods, the blacks are voting for him for no other reason than he is black. They could not tell you one thing about his past voting record, beliefs, etc., but believe me, they know he's black and getting a black man in the White House is all they care about. I don't care for McCain either but at least he's not preaching more handouts and he isn't making a point of taking the American flag off his plane, which speaks volumes for those paying attention. Just too many people voting for him for all the wrong reasons. He is Muslim born and raised and shows no signs of changing that. His actions have spoken volumes about his true thoughts. A wolf in sheep's clothing....only some of us aren't falling for it.
The more we want things to change, the more they stay the same. nm

Change and Hope: Obama wants your change and hopes you enjoy starving.... sm
...while he's partying like a rock star with the glitterati.

Meanwhile, some little old lady is hoping he doesn't get a dog and sends her the dog food instead.
Yes, they're all nuts. The change they'll get is not the change they thought

I want change. Chump change. I'm voting for Obama as far as the pollsters go.

Obama is change you can believe in until you have to take it to the bank.

Our jobs have been offshored until now because of greed.  Under Obama and his taxation of small businesses, they will be offshored not because of greed but because of survival.

You could make a difference for our country by not voting for Obama, but instead, if you vote for him, you are selling out to deception.  You are embracing a socialist, a communist, a Marxist, a liar, a cheat, and someone who legally cannot run as President of the U.S., much less the Illinois senate.  But, you make your choice.  You believe the consumate liar and his lies who sat for 20 years under the teachings of a black racist preacher filled with hatred for the U.S., whose association with Bill Ayers is recent and documented down to the fact that Ayers himself wrote Obama's best-selling book (best-selling in the eyes of far left liberals that is), who is a documented member of the socialist party, whose friends and close allies are extremists who not only bomb innocent people and are unrepenetent but who intend to eliminate (kill) 25 million Americans who they cannot "re-educate" in communist ideaology (gosh dog it, those dreadful capitalists), who refuses to hand over a certified copy of his birth certificate and educational records (my goodness, don't you have to provide your birth certificate to any number of entities who want to know if you are legal, i.e., social security, DMVs, etc., and your educational records would show if you had received aid as a foreigner and in 1963 would have shown you were a negro instead of an African-American which Obama's falsified record shows, please speck up on history), and who thinks Joe the Plumber is so stupid not to realize that if he wants to achieve the American dream, he is going to achieve it only if he lets Obama take what he makes to give to those WHO WILL NOT WORK.  I'd like to see you, liberals, give a share of your 7.5 cpl to those who don't work as hard as you, but then with Obama, that's what you will have to do.  Don't be fooled by his rhetoric that only those making over $250,00 will be taxed.  We will all be taxed, and there will be no incentive to work for any of us because we will all have to give up a piece of our pie so those who do not work can have a piece of our pie.

Here is the dividing line, folks.  We are at a crossroads in our history.  The Lord Jesus puts it this way, "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction; and there are many who go in by it."

Choose which gate you enter, the wide or the narrow.  It not only determines your eternal destination, but it determines the destination of this country.  If anyone here calls themself a Christian and can vote for Osambo, I daresay you are a liar and cheat just as he.  One cannot be a Christian and vote for a party and a political candidate who is in total rebellion to God's Word.  That is a fact, and if you think any differently, then you, too, like the Obamanation, call God a liar.  May He have mercy upon your soul.  As He makes the rain fall on the just and the unjust because He is no respector of persons, we will all suffer as this country is destroyed and our Constitution that guarantees our freedoms is trampled just as Bill Ayers is pictured standing upon our flag in total disrespect, and we will thank you liberals that we are all in bondage, reduced to third world status, just as the Israelites were in Egypt.  Only Obama ain't no Moses but a Muslim and has no favor with God, and there will be no one to lead us to the Promised Land coming from the Democratic party.

typo - meant cite things as hoax, not "site" things
Just thought I'd correct that before I get pummeled by the people who want to believe snopes is a truthful organization.
I agree with change....change to socialism...
NO THANKS.
I wouldn't want to be on the
O'Reilly Factor either.  Bill O'Reilly never lets the people talk.  He is always cutting them off to speak his opinion.  Kind of annoying really.  I am no Obama supporter, but I think as a person in general.....I wouldn't want to be on his show.  If people have opposing ideas....fine....but let them talk.....stop talking over them.
Wouldn't we all??
LOL in regards to Christmas, very few people actually celebrate the *true* meaning anymore. Our neighbor has already put their lights up for heaven's sake!

Do Jews believe that he was crucified? I mean is it up until the resurrection that is disagreed with? Or is that just based on who you are talking to?

I mean my belief is that Jesus died and rose again and he had to die for our sins to pay our sin debt so we can go to heaven. I also believe he is the only way to heaven, because if not then it was senseless for him to die. But I do believe he is coming back and we will be gathered with him and after the tribulation heaven will be here on earth and those who didn't believe will be "ashes under our feet" as the Bible says.

I know that a lot of "Christians" now don't believe all of the Bible, or believe there are errors, which just amazes me, but hey, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. To me God cannot lie, and if God said the Bible is the Truth, well, it's the Truth then.

I'm sorry if I got heated before. I am a new Christian (I was baptized last November, but I would say I didn't get serious until January) and I knew before that a lot of people are against Christianity (in general) but it amazes me how so many people are just downright hateful about it! I mean yes, I can understand, because there are a lot of hypocritical Christians, a lot of Christians who profess Jesus and then go out into the world and do the same old things they used to, and those were my very same arguments before I believed in Him. But I have met so many more Christians that are just CONCERNED! I mean do people not understand that our belief in Jesus is just as strong as our belief that a chair is really there when we go to sit in it?

I'm ranting again. But what I was discussing with you I am just curious because it seems like Jews and Christians agree on a lot up until the point of whether Jesus was Messiah or not. I guess my biggest question is why don't they believe he is the Messiah?

I wouldn't know.

Since we've never cared enough about the average American to try universal healthcare.  We could probably find out how it works from the Iraqis, though, since part of Bush's war budget was to provide comprehensive universal healthcare to THEM.

It's sad that some people are okay with paying for Wall Street crooks to get richer and richer.

We're all about greed, greed, greed.  Even with all the publicity about Bush's bailouts, I just heard on the news that the end-of-year bonuses are still in place for the Wall Street crooks.

Seems to me that when a government runs around and buys up banks, that's FASCISM, so if we move to SOCIALISM (which will never happen and which is a ridiculous statement), that move will be a giant step UP from what we have now.

I'm sick and tired of eight years of greed.  By the looks of things, the majority of Americans are sick of it, as well, which gives me some hope for what is left of humanity.

Obama is right.  "Trickle down" hasn't worked.  It's time to try "trickle UP."

Well of course! Why wouldn't I? I, too, am
LOL
I wouldn't be so sure about that

The Catholic heads are really pushing this issue, as are a lot of other Christian leaders.  Most people don't like either candidate (like me), but they'd rather vote for the one that settles their conscience.

Add that to the fact that Americans like their guns and McCain has a strong chance.  He's really been coming up in the poles (not sure if it'll be enough, though).

You would think so, wouldn't you....sm
or at least grouped by party, which wouldn't really be fair to the minor parties because they would probably wind up on the back of the ticket. I have never used a "punch" voting machine, so I am not familiar with the way that they are read, but wouldn't there be a chance the name punched on the back could be read as being for a candidate that appears on the front of the ballot?
I wouldn't say......... sm
that I'm "un-narrow", DB, because I am probably about as narrow as they come short of those who bomb abortion clinics, etc., but I do understand what you are saying. I appreciate you understanding my point as well.
Wouldn't this have all come up
when his background investigation was done when he was elected Senator? If there was truly a birth certificate issue, I am sure it would have come up during the DSS (Defense Security Service) investigation process.
I wouldn't go that far...lol..(sm)
While Obama is very popular worldwide, he still has to prove himself.  I believe he will do an excellent job, but we have a lot of work to do yet.
No, actually they wouldn't do that...(sm)

Keep in mind that Reid was actually trying to stop him from getting into the Senate but couldn't find any legal grounds to do so, and it was both pubs and dems doing the investigation into Blago.  Dems don't want him in the senate anymore than the pubs do.  From our point of view, he's a has been and can't win an election.

If you want to talk about those all important votes for the stiumulus package, you might want to check out how long pubs have been holding up Franken in Minnesota with court battles.  How many times do they plan on counting that vote anyway?

They certainly wouldn't be
let off easy and appointed to a government position.  Normal people not paying taxes would not only have to pay their taxes but the interest as well.  We would go under.  Government wouldn't help us or give us a pass like so many in Washington who haven't paid their taxes.  Makes me sick.  Such double standards.  And they wonder why we don't trust them to run our country and why we don't want government to get bigger than it is.  sheesh.
Normally I wouldn't do that, but...(sm)

a good rule of thumb to remember is this:  If you're going to try to insult someone's intelligence, then you should at least try to be literate in the process.

Love the definition, BTW.

Of course you don't. They wouldn't put up with you in a
And they tolerate almost everyone.
Why wouldn't it be?

Not trying to argue, but wouldn't any bill the Congress would submit have to be signed by the president?  (And then, behind everyone's back, the signing statement "magically" appears after the signing, sometime without anyone knowing unless they specifically looked for it.)

For example, Bush signed the "no torture" bill and then later added, basically, "unless I want to."

Why would this bill be any different?  Again, not trying to argue.  I'm just trying to learn the difference between those two examples and what I'm missing here.

Why wouldn't you?
??
They wouldn't be any better if they were

DEFINITELY Change!
We have seen where experience gets us!!!! Look at it like this...
How many of you have ever worked a job before and your "boss" (with experience) knows a LOT less about the job than you do?! Bet you all never thought of it like that, huh?!
EXACTLY! And now we have someone who wants to change all that...
and only one side is even TALKING about it. That is the side getting my vote. And this post illustrates the problem with your side..."Repugnants." How is that productive? Zero! What crossing party lines have Dems done? Zero! It should stop on both sides, but the bitterness for whatever reason you see in the Dems on this board apparently is rampant throughout the country, one only has the read the blogs. It is just beyond ridculous, beyond childish, and until our elected leaders can move past it, we are stuck to repeat the same old mistakes over and over and over. One ticket is talking about changing that stagnant swamp in Washington, that is McCain/Palin, and that is one of the reasons I am voting that ticket this time around. They get it.
so much for change....nm
nm
Change
8 years of a Republican president is enough, change is needed. America is in a very bad state.
Maybe you should change...
your name to "Mar Tar."
CHANGE, YES, CHANGE -- we need O to take the
to all the deadbeats who don't wanna work.
The new change

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iRxZox4GFoIweckPDP1oRhKBlHOwD94CCDU00

This is what I am talking about.  Somebody from the INSIDE, a congressman sees our new change coming.  This is NOT THE CHANGE I opted for.

From Change.gov
Create a Civilian Assistance Corps (CAC): Obama and Biden will create a national CAC of 25,000 personnel. This corps of civilian volunteers with special skill sets (doctors, lawyers, engineers, city planners, agriculture specialists, police, etc.) would be organized to provide each federal agency with a pool of volunteer experts willing to deploy in times of need at home and abroad.

As far as CD in general, you seriously do not think that we as citizens should be prepared for what to do in the event of a major disaster or, heaven forbid, another terrorist attack?
the change who wants??
that remains to be seen, I think. I am not so sure it is the change I want. Actually, I'm not so sure it is change. Shall we not just wait and see instead of speculating?
Duh, in trying to change
it to many more, I managed to say 'much many'.  Think that'll catch on?
This would not change...(sm)
a "christian marriage."  Unless, of course, you can show me where in the bible it says anything about legal benefits that come with marriage?
He said what he said! You cant change that.
nm
At least it SHOULD be, for a change!

And owning a gun wouldn't have help either one of them.
That's the point.
Wouldn't suprise me none.nm
x
You wouldn't be someone AKA DixieDew, are you? If so,
x
Wouldn't surprise me if he still is.
Nothing the Bush administration does surprises me any more.
It wouldn't matter what we said.
Their reaction would be the same.  I suppose I could have raged against a thousand perceived wrongs, assumed that everyone knew my history, and called a poster who dared to question -what makes you think we haven't- as some kind of insensitive heartless slam.  The real truth is much deeper and darker than that.  I am not quite sure why people choose to tell their deepest darkest secrets on chat boards.  Is it so that later on, someone might forget something they never knew, in order to attack that person with out of control fury, as some on this board are wont to do.  Of course, my sympathy goes out ot anyone who loses a loved one NO MATTER WHERE THEY WERE WHEN THEY DIED.  But perhaps my sympathy should be more reserved for those who feel the need to constantly attack, denigrate, misinterpret (deliberately?), hound, and judge those who challenge an ideal.  Having said that, I find some on here who post disturbed.  Merry Christmas to all.  My last post here.  If anyone cares to respond, I will not see it.
I wouldn't worry about it
Honestly, I think the last thing he needs to worry about is Hillary.  I doubt he will get into the White House to begin with.  The Rethugs will do anything to put a stop to that.  I think they are the bigger threat in this picture.
No I don't. But it wouldn't make me any less of a

"real woman" if I  did. Just curious here, are you male or female?

i wouldn't go down that road
When you start knocking down spouses, but especially children, of politicians that's pretty low. Not all families "look similar". My BIL was not his father's son, but he claims he looks the most like his father. There is a definite non-resemblance there but he doesn't see it.

As for Chelsea? Oh please, I've heard her speak and she is too infatuated with her mother and how great she thinks her mother is she doesn't understnad the issues, and she doesn't sound all too intelligent. Makes me wonder where that education money went her parents spent on her education.

I think McCain's daughter is a pretty and doesn't look "challenged" as you call it, but to start commenting on who you think is pretty or not pretty or whose hair color is nice or not nice. I woun't go down that road, cos we could really get into Hillary's hair color and others.
Wouldn't be the first time he has

I wouldn't want my 15-yr-old granddaughter going to

Get in that last word! Wouldn't want you to

Sam's a republican through-&-through. Wouldn't be
All that trumpting of his own virtue & intelligence and all. He doesn't seem to get it that NOBODY reading this forum, no matter what candidate they believe in, is going to change their point of view based on what they read here. And most CERTAINLY not because of anything the oh-so-self-important, omnipotent (or maybe IMpotent?) Sam has written here.
And who wouldn't? She's an embarrassment
