is probably one of the most political days on the calendar?  Do you think that book was written in just a few short months?  I'm sure it's been undergoing for several years now.

I don't disagree that she does support Obama, but I will state that there is no moderator who is absolutely 100% neutral.  They're all going to go to the polls on election day and cast their vote.

I think that a presidential inauguration should be serious...
not an excuse to drink a lot in bars. I actually find it tacky. Watch the serious event in our nation's capital and celebrate if you want, but go home to party like a rockstar. Personally, I think it shows a huge amount of disrespect.
inauguration events
is anyone planning on taking the day off or part of the day to watch the inauguration tomorrow?  I would not mind.  If I leave it on while working its sure to slow me down production wise.
You'll have to wait until after the inauguration
You're in for a real treat.
What would you expect 14 days BEFORE his inauguration?

The money being spent on the inauguration
At least that is one way to look at it.
Bush Inauguration Costs
During the January 18 edition of MSNBC Live, host Tamron Hall stated that "the inauguration festivities" for President-elect Barack Obama are "estimated to reach as high as $150 million," adding that "[i]n 2004, to note, the inauguration of George W. Bush cost roughly $40 million." However, the $40 million figure that Hall cited for Bush's second inauguration reportedly does not include certain costs incurred by the federal government and the District of Columbia such as security and transportation costs; these costs are included in the $150 million estimate that the media are reporting for the Obama inauguration. When the costs incurred by the federal government and the District of Columbia are factored in, the total cost of Bush's 2005 inauguration was reportedly around $157 million, as Media Matters for America senior fellow Eric Boehlert noted.

The Washington Post reported in January 2005 that the $40 million cost of Bush's inaugural celebration, raised from private donations "does not include the cost of a web of security, including everything from 7,000 troops to volunteer police officers from far away, to some of the most sophisticated detection and protection equipment." Further, The New York Times reported on January 5 that in 2005, "the federal government and the District of Columbia spent a combined $115.5 million, most of it for security, the swearing-in ceremony, cleanup and for a holiday for federal workers."

This year, the Presidential Inaugural Committee reportedly plans to spend around $45 million on the celebrations "surrounding the actual ceremony," all of which "comes completely from private donations, not the government." In addition, public funds will cover security, transportation, staffing, construction, and the actual swearing-in ceremony. According to CNNMoney.com:

The total cost of the inauguration to the federal government is $49 million, according to Abigail Tanner, spokeswoman for the Office of Management and Budget.

That $49 million includes a $15 million appropriation which has already been appropriated to the District of Columbia to help pay for the inauguration expenses. It also includes money to pay for the Secret Service during the inauguration and the military personnel during the parade following the swearing-in ceremony.

Meanwhile, the governors of Virginia and Maryland, and the mayor of Washington sent a letter to the federal government estimating that the inauguration was going to cost them a combined $75 million -- $47 million for the District alone -- for transportation and law enforcement.

The District may be eligible for more federal money beyond the $15 million appropriated. President Bush announced Tuesday that the District was in a state of emergency, making more funding available for "emergency protective measures that are undertaken to save lives and protect public health and safety."

Millions could get to DC for the inauguration, but couldn't get out of NO before the hurricane...

Gene Robinson: Gay Bishop Giving Obama Inauguration Prayer

Well, even though that Saddleback jerks is there too...

from the Huffington Post 1/12/09

New Hampshire Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson, a vocal gay rights leader, will open President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration with a prayer on Sunday's kick-off event at the Lincoln Memorial.

"I am writing to tell you that President-Elect Obama and the Inaugural Committee have invited me to give the invocation at the opening event of the Inaugural Week activities, We are One, to be held at the Lincoln Memorial," Robinson wrote in an email to friends.

The announcement comes after weeks of outcry from the gay community over Obama's choice of evangelical, anti-gay pastor Rick Warren to deliver the inaugural invocation.

"It's important for any minority to see themselves represented in some way," Robinson said in an interview with the Concord Monitor. "Whether it be a racial minority, an ethnic minority or, in our case, a sexual minority. Just seeing someone like you up front matters."

Robinson is the first openly gay diocesan bishop in the Anglican Communion. "God never gets it wrong. The church often takes a long time to get it right. It is a human institution, but one capable of self-correction," Robinson told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "I believe in my heart that the church got it wrong about homosexuality. There is great excitement in my heart to be living in a time when the church is starting to get it right."

Robinson said he would love to sit down with Rick Warren but believed that the California pastor has "perpetrated lies about the gay, lesbian and bisexual community."

Did you notice that you just called him McSame? I always think of a hamburger when I see this....

LOL......did you mistype??

My husband has this running joke, which is kinda funny, considering someone else a few days back using "McClain" as a moniker.

You have to take it in context and as a joke, such as the facts that JM was in something like four plane crashes, and walked away from a couple of them...and the fact that he was tortured for years and years as a POW....and that he tried to hang himself in his cell before his prison guard cut him down...he couldn't even kill himself. So it seemed he cannot die. We joke about this whenever we hear the age factor about JM...

Anyway, the joke is......remember the movies on The Highland....

I'm Connor McClain, I'm 500 years old, and I canna die......

Okay, it's late...please forgive me for rambling....gotta scoot to bed now......

ummmm....sm
Kaydie, are you thinking of Stephen Baldwin, who played Cody in that tv show?
Ummmm.....(sm)
The 9/11 attack was a financial attack.  And who was he keeping from invading the US?  Maybe the Saudi nationals?  Did you even bother to actually look who the terrorists were, or did you just go with the Bush pep talk after 911?  You know, we do really well beating goat herders and farmers in a war -- it's all okay so long as we don't challenge a country who is an equal.
Ummmm.....(sm)

We didn't go to war with Iraq because of 9/11.  We went there for oil.  There were no WMDs.  You can say what you want about Saddam, but guess who put him there?  So, because of the greed of a few, we have sacrificed how many lives (civilian and military, Iraqi and American)?

Why do you think everyone else in the world disagreed with going into Iraq?  And please don't come back with the coalition of the willing thing.  We all know who was in it, and it's a joke.

Ummmm.....(sm)

Why do you keep acting like I care if you call me an anti-Semite?  It's getting rather amusing really.

Just a quick question.  You say that Isreal is taking this action to ensure no further bombs into Israel.  So where do the hundreds of palestinian casualties fit in?  You can try and say all those civilians are terrorists, but from what I've seen thus far about half of them aren't old enough to brush thier teeth by themselves much less fire a rocket launcher.  Do you even realize that the schools Israel bombed were locations where civilians were going for safety?  But of course you don't see it that way.  I guess in your eyes those 4 year olds had probably formulated a plan for the demise of Israel -- no doubt with the encouragement of their mothers and fathers who have been delivering them to overcrowded hospitals, the parents screaming in horror as they try to carry in their children without dropping the limbs that hang by a thread.  But I guess since it's not on American TV it must not be really happening.

I just saw a report from a foreign correspondent on TV stationed in Israel.  He was talking about Israel not allowing journalists into Gaza.  According to this reporter, the Israeli official he spoke to said they were not allowing journalists in yet because first, Israel wanted to control the media (noting that they didn't want to give away military positions), and secondly they wanted to control the timing of the media coverage coming out of Gaza.  This official noted that if they wait a few days then hopefully the US would be preoccupied with the inauguration and would not pay attention to what's going on there.  Even Israel understands the sensorship that is the hallmark of American news.  Why would they be so concerned about what the US thinks if they were just *defending themselves* anyway?

I believe that history will eventually show this continual assault by Isreal as the largest genocide since....yep....you guess it.... the Holocaust.

*At least with major tax cuts businesses could work their way out without government controlling them.*

How do you think we got here in the first place?  ----yeah....let's do more of that.  Ridiculous.

Michael Moore did ask our neighbors to the north as well as people in Cuba and France in his documentary Sicko.  The answers from the people who are in those systems are the not the same as our government tells us.  There was even a guy who used to live in the US and could not get treatment for cancer.  He had to move back to France in order to get appropriate treatment.  Check this out:

They've had about 2 weeks to read it, and if they weren't all stonewalling instead of actually participating in negotiations, they would be able to keep up with the changes.  Many of the pubs that are whining about that haven't made any effort in this regard and have said they aren't going to vote for it anyway, so what does it matter if they read it?

Ummmm
That's a big NO!!! Just telling hubby earlier, what with California having to let 1/3 (I believe) of their prison population out due to overcrowding, they can start with the illegals and then set up the border patrol to keep 'em out. I don't want to pay for their prison cells or their mortgages, or their health care, or their food/clothing/basic needs, or their . . . well, you get the point.

"I don't want Hillary or any government agency in charge of my health care telling me how many more pills I'm allowed to take to stay alive."

But it's okay for HMO's, drug companies, and the Bush Medicare (part A, B, C,D) revision to do just that..because that's what's happening now.

Ummmm......(sm)
Yeah....I did post it for a reaction.  Why?  Because this is a board for discussion.  I brought up a topic and posted a link for verification and proof of source for the purpose of creating a discussion.  No, I'm not surprised by the responses because that's usually what you get on a DISCUSSION board.  I'm assuming that's what a discussion board is all about.  Shouldn't you be over at the happy gabby board or something?
Ummmm......(sm)
Try reading my post again...LOL.  I'm pro-choice.  As in -- if they don't want anyone to have an abortion, then they should be willing to support the unfortunate kids who come out of that decision.  Hence, put money in the envelope.

It's not like it's hard to get marijuana right now.  People are already using it on a regular basis, and yes, some are driving under the influence.  I think that if you're going to say marijuana should not be legal, then you should also say that alcohol should not be legal, as alcohol does much more damage and is, in fact, an addictive substance whereas marijuana is not.  I think the only difference you would see if it was made legal would be increased tax revenue and less border/smuggling problems, which would be a good thing.

There's a reason the movie "Reefer Madness" is considered to be a cult film.

And in the very next sentence you claim to know what's in the heart of terrorists....
