Gene Robinson: Gay Bishop Giving Obama Inauguration Prayer

Well, even though that Saddleback jerks is there too...

from the Huffington Post 1/12/09

New Hampshire Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson, a vocal gay rights leader, will open President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration with a prayer on Sunday's kick-off event at the Lincoln Memorial.

"I am writing to tell you that President-Elect Obama and the Inaugural Committee have invited me to give the invocation at the opening event of the Inaugural Week activities, We are One, to be held at the Lincoln Memorial," Robinson wrote in an email to friends.

The announcement comes after weeks of outcry from the gay community over Obama's choice of evangelical, anti-gay pastor Rick Warren to deliver the inaugural invocation.

"It's important for any minority to see themselves represented in some way," Robinson said in an interview with the Concord Monitor. "Whether it be a racial minority, an ethnic minority or, in our case, a sexual minority. Just seeing someone like you up front matters."

Robinson is the first openly gay diocesan bishop in the Anglican Communion. "God never gets it wrong. The church often takes a long time to get it right. It is a human institution, but one capable of self-correction," Robinson told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "I believe in my heart that the church got it wrong about homosexuality. There is great excitement in my heart to be living in a time when the church is starting to get it right."

Robinson said he would love to sit down with Rick Warren but believed that the California pastor has "perpetrated lies about the gay, lesbian and bisexual community."

Why are you being so mean to everyone giving the O in Obama a bad name!
nm
Well, giving Obama an 80% approval before

If you elect Obama....you are giving the power to the party...
who are largely responsible for the "mess" we currently find ourselves in.
I heard Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post
yesterday say, in response to the question, who made Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton the spokespersons for the black community? and he said We did. meaning the media in all its various forms. He said every time something happens that could be perceived as racist everyone (black, white, red, brown and yellow) who are out for the scoop call those two guys 3 or 4 times a day to find out what they think and what they are going to do. Interesting sideline.
"Danger, Will Robinson! Hard drive crashing!

Do you share the same gene pool as
Ahmadinejad? Denying the genocide perpetrated in the name of Israel's so-called national security is every bit as evil (and just about as credible) as Ahmadinejad's Holocaust denial.

How many times do we have to go down this road. Sticks, stones, rocks, and homemade pipe bombs versus assault rifles, submachine guns, machine guns, sniper rifles, shotguns, pistols,
Semi-automatics, breach grenades, SWAT rifles, Isherman, Sho't, Magach, Sabra and Merkava tanks, Davidka, Makmat and Soltam M-66 mortars, Soltam, Rascal, Sholef and IDF howitzers, cargo, sea scan, fighter and trainer aircraft, Shaldaq, Dvora and Super Dvora patrol boats, Sa'ar 3, 4 and 5-class missle boats, Sa'ar 5-class corvettes, Gal class and Dolphin submarines, Trophy and Iron Fist protection systems, Flight Guard airborne countermeasures systems, Machbet anti-aircraft weapons, Barak surface-to-air missiles, SPYDER air-defense system, Arrow anti-ballistic missiles, Tactical High Energy Laser, Iron Dome short-range rocket defense system, David's Sling medium-range rocket defense system, B-300 and Shipon shoulder-launched missiles, shoulder-lanched multipurpose assault weapons, FGM-172 SRAWs, MAPATS, Spike, Nimrod and LAHAT ATGMs, Shafrir, Derby and Python air-to-air missiles, Gabriel naval anti-ship missiles, Popeye air-to-surface missiles, LORA theater and Jericho ballistic missiles, Nimda, Trail Blazers, IDF Nagmachon, IDF Nakpadon, IDF Puma, IDF Achzarit, Namer IFV, Nemmera ARV, AIL Storm, Plasan Sand Cat, Wolf Armoured and Golan Armored fighting vehicles, IMI Mastiff, Casper 250, IAI Searcher, IAI Hary, IAI I-View, IAI Ranger, IAI Heron, IAI RQ-2 Hunter, Elbit Skylark, Elbit Hermes and Aeronautics Defense Dominator unmanned fighter vehicles, Typhoon close-in weapon system, Kilshon anti-radiation missile launchers, Caterpillar D7/D9 armored bulldozers, Enhanced Tactical Computers, LITENING targeting pods, Spice EO-GPS PGM guidance kits, Shavit spaceflight launch vehicle, EROS earth observation satellite and Ofeg reconnaissance satellites. As Marmann so astutely pointed out the other day, no matter how much Israel arms itself to the teeth, it will NEVER be enough. The more you impose fear, the more you live under its curse.
Actually scientists have found a gene......
linked with homosexuality.  If you are so determined that there is NO genetic link, then perhaps you should compare your scientific research with that of scientists to study this stufff.
where do you people come from? the bottom of the gene pool?
in anyway!!!

Republicans favor giving poor families subsidies to afford private schools. Obama opposed.
Yet Obama sends his daughters to a private school, 29,000 for EACH KID. Hypocrisy, here we come. Geesh, not even in office yet.
ummmm because inauguration day

is probably one of the most political days on the calendar?  Do you think that book was written in just a few short months?  I'm sure it's been undergoing for several years now.

I don't disagree that she does support Obama, but I will state that there is no moderator who is absolutely 100% neutral.  They're all going to go to the polls on election day and cast their vote.

I think that a presidential inauguration should be serious...
not an excuse to drink a lot in bars. I actually find it tacky. Watch the serious event in our nation's capital and celebrate if you want, but go home to party like a rockstar. Personally, I think it shows a huge amount of disrespect.
inauguration events
is anyone planning on taking the day off or part of the day to watch the inauguration tomorrow?  I would not mind.  If I leave it on while working its sure to slow me down production wise.
You'll have to wait until after the inauguration
You're in for a real treat.
What would you expect 14 days BEFORE his inauguration?
x
The money being spent on the inauguration
At least that is one way to look at it.
Bush Inauguration Costs
During the January 18 edition of MSNBC Live, host Tamron Hall stated that "the inauguration festivities" for President-elect Barack Obama are "estimated to reach as high as $150 million," adding that "[i]n 2004, to note, the inauguration of George W. Bush cost roughly $40 million." However, the $40 million figure that Hall cited for Bush's second inauguration reportedly does not include certain costs incurred by the federal government and the District of Columbia such as security and transportation costs; these costs are included in the $150 million estimate that the media are reporting for the Obama inauguration. When the costs incurred by the federal government and the District of Columbia are factored in, the total cost of Bush's 2005 inauguration was reportedly around $157 million, as Media Matters for America senior fellow Eric Boehlert noted.

The Washington Post reported in January 2005 that the $40 million cost of Bush's inaugural celebration, raised from private donations "does not include the cost of a web of security, including everything from 7,000 troops to volunteer police officers from far away, to some of the most sophisticated detection and protection equipment." Further, The New York Times reported on January 5 that in 2005, "the federal government and the District of Columbia spent a combined $115.5 million, most of it for security, the swearing-in ceremony, cleanup and for a holiday for federal workers."

This year, the Presidential Inaugural Committee reportedly plans to spend around $45 million on the celebrations "surrounding the actual ceremony," all of which "comes completely from private donations, not the government." In addition, public funds will cover security, transportation, staffing, construction, and the actual swearing-in ceremony. According to CNNMoney.com:

The total cost of the inauguration to the federal government is $49 million, according to Abigail Tanner, spokeswoman for the Office of Management and Budget.

That $49 million includes a $15 million appropriation which has already been appropriated to the District of Columbia to help pay for the inauguration expenses. It also includes money to pay for the Secret Service during the inauguration and the military personnel during the parade following the swearing-in ceremony.

Meanwhile, the governors of Virginia and Maryland, and the mayor of Washington sent a letter to the federal government estimating that the inauguration was going to cost them a combined $75 million -- $47 million for the District alone -- for transportation and law enforcement.

The District may be eligible for more federal money beyond the $15 million appropriated. President Bush announced Tuesday that the District was in a state of emergency, making more funding available for "emergency protective measures that are undertaken to save lives and protect public health and safety."

Millions could get to DC for the inauguration, but couldn't get out of NO before the hurricane...

My prayer is for God to have his will in
the lady's life and to prepare her heart to receive him if as her Savior if she has done so. As for her grandson, my prayer is as usual, for God to change his heart and let him know what is right in God's sight and to seek God's guidance in his every decision.
He sure needs prayer because anyone who
is for abortion and anyone who is for gay marriage, well, basically not of God.  He is an eloquent speaker alright.
Prayer is good and thanks...however..sm
I don't see where the article you posted about Ricky Rector is an adequate comparison to the Karen Tucker case where she claimed to have found God and was mocked.

There is also a difference between a mentally challenged person committing a crime and ending up on death row and a person of sane mind committing a crime and injuring his brain in a suicide attempt AFTER THE CRIME (not screaming just trying to get that point across). When he committed the crime, he was not mentally ill.
I agree and second that prayer ....(nm)

Noone is saying prayer alone works, Sim!

Get a new line. That prayer cop-out

At least YOU could stop for a while and say a prayer!
McCain did!
Thank you for your honesty and join you in your prayer. nm

Prayer vigil for our nation
I posted this on the Faith board but I also wanted to post it here just in case...

The North American Mission Board has started a prayer vigil for our nation before the election. If you want to participate there is a sign up and prayer guide at

http://ilivevalues.com/prayer

It's 40 days of prayer and then 40 hours of prayer at the end. Check it out! I think it will really do some good and if God's people work together and call out to Him together to heal our nation, He said He would hear us and do so!

Have a great day!

God Bless!

p.s. this wasn't meant to start a riot or to have a bunch of people who don't believe in prayer or God to get up in arms, it's just for those who would like to participate, so please don't go there. Thanks!

Prayer and reading the Bible
I agree with you and if every person who calls on the name of the Lord Jehovah who sent His Son Jesus (Yeshua) votes for McCain, I believe this nation will stay a free country.  We just need to continue to read the Bible and prayer fervently to the the Lord Jesus and perhaps He will heal our land.
Can we stop the bickering for a few moments and say a sincere prayer...

for those on our gulf coast, and for all the emergency workers down there to help?  They are more important than anything we are saying here right now!

Either side can fail to deliver on promises. My only hope and prayer is that
I'm honestly not 100% sure either one of these candidates can do it so where do people like me fit into the picture? I'm not even sure I will be able to vote for either one, and that's based on my personal values. I don't feel Barack is the man, like many seem to, but I don't feel McCain is, either. I know I'm not alone. I don't believe socialized insurance is the answer, I believe in going after insurance companies that dictate what patients can have done and set premiums too high for people to afford and pharmaceutical companies that pay people off to push their drugs, whether it be doctors, groups, etc. I'd like to see all with tax cuts, not just big companies. Wonderful if they get a break for keeping jobs in the US, but that should be just one of many tax cuts for all, starting with taxes paid at the pump. What about public education? We pay fees and still have to buy extra books and other supplies for our kids' education, yet many children are less educated now out of public high school than ever before because they are too focused on the proficiency tests to actually teach a well-rounded fund of knowledge, so what are the proposals to fix that mess?

No matter who gets elected, they've got quite a job on their hands, and I sincerely doubt either will be able to live up to their promises. And no, I don't necessarily blame Bush for all the problems in this country, but rather I blame all presidents and congress, past and present. Somewhere along the way, it stopped being for the people, that's for sure, and more for their pocketbooks (both Dems AND Repubs). Since so many seem to see Barack as the second coming, I certainly pray that you are right, but I really doubt it. He's had zero experience so who is to say he won't buckle under the load once he realizes what he's gotten into? And McCain isn't my idea of perfection, either, so don't reply by bashing Republicans. I want to hear facts that aren't based on party views but honest-to-goodness facts on who has the best plan in line for these things. And how do you know who is being sincere and who is just making empty campaign promises?
A bipartisan prayer request viewed as provoking hate.
by taking this kind of position and posting these kinds or rants.
Finding those Bachmann, US-style weath distribution and prayer request for O's GM
Hate-generating slurs don't blink an eye, even with Obama's last living elder relative on her death bed. Such class. And this would capture votes how?
You poor thing. I'll say an extra prayer for the demons to leave your heart.

Big hug.

what are you giving up?
What are some things that you and/or your family are giving up due to the high price of gas and now the rise in food prices?  My family - just me and my husband now - buy 2 large packs of water at Sam's every 2 weeks and drink this, sometimes getting some crystal light or something to put in it.  We eat a meal once a week and that's it.  Needless to say - we are both losing weight.  But to fill up his truck - that's $100 a week - even though he only works 3 days a week now - and I work at home - so I only go out twice a month - to a dr. appointment and then the second time to get the water.
I'm giving up
It is so hard to have a positive outlook on society anymore. I think I should have been born about 100 years ago. This country has no more morals, all people care about is political correctness and not stepping on anyone's toes. The God of this nation has been pushed out, and people want to know why kids are shooting each other. We have become so pompous we think we can take care of ourselves. I want to live in a time when women respected their bodies and didn't just give it up to anyone. Where rapist were few and far between because they would be hanged if caught. They couldn't wiggle their way out of the judicial system on a technicality. Where we didn't need welfare because neighbor helped neighbor and everyone worked hard and worked together. Where there wasn't an obesity problem because kids played outside from after school until "the street lamp came on". Where people knew God and had a relationship with him. Where "love thy neighbor" was not just a commandment, but an action.

At 22 years old, I wonder if there will be an USA when I'm 40? Is it possible for our nation to survive at the rapid rate of decline we are experiencing for 18 more years? I used to pray to Jesus to wait to come, knowing it was selfish, because I knew so many people who didn't know his love and were not saved, including my own parents, and it killed me to think that we may be separated eternally because of that. Now I just can't help but to pray that He comes soon. All these movies about a post apocalyptic United States don't seem so far fetched now, minus all the zombies that is. We have to wake up. We need to fall to our knees and beg God for forgiveness and beg him to come back to our nation. If you don't believe in Him or want to scoff at me for saying this, I am so sorry. I am so sorry that you do not know the love of Christ. I just hope you get to know Him before it's to late.

God help us.
Not particularly.....just giving
the board a good lookover before I go lie down.
Too many with no b*lls giving in to a few who believe

For all those that think O is giving you a tax cut.....what

You are giving her credit for something
she will NEVER do.   She will never unite the party.  She will only go on and on and on until it is impossible for a democrat to win this year, making McCain the president.  All she wants is to be president, and if Obama gets in there, she will have to wait until 2016 when she'll be going on age 68.  She doesn't care about the country or the democratic party.  All she cares about is power, not about anything but HER and Bill.  Sad, but the truth.
Um, excuse me, since when did giving

intelligent, well thought-out replies and giving one's opinion constitute bullying?

Gimme a break.  Sam has every right to be here and she brings a lot to this board.  Maybe if those who bash follow her lead in effective posting, the atmosphere here would be shall I say more of a good debate than a circus?

No, he's just giving them HOPE. Something that

Get used to it. She's the story that just keeps on giving
there will be plenty more where that comes from.
I am giving him a chance and I
know that this isn't a quick fix.  I'm realistic enough to know Obama cannot wave a magic wand and make this all go away.  I'm just saying that for a man who hasnt' been pres for a whole week......he has made a lot of promises already with 2 already broken.  I'm not trying to get a lynching mob together.  I just want to stay informed of what my president and the government is doing because I refuse to just assume they are making the right decisions.  Holy crap people.....seriously!  Xanax....try some.
You mean too many with brains giving in.
There is a big difference between intelligence and lack of cahones.
I was just giving figures from what they said.
Dont' burn me for that.
AIG - the gift that keeps on giving. sm
Beginning with the first bailout under the Bush administration, and accelerating apace (which one wouldn't have thought possible) under Obama, the ineptitude in dealing with every aspect of the current economic problems is simpy staggering.

This ineptitude includes both Presidents, both Treasury secretaries, the man who was/is Fed chairman under both Presidents(Bernanke), Congress, and regulatory agencies such as the SEC and FDIC.

Consider this interesting little fact: It has taken six months for the Ethics Committee to investigate some fairly simple charges of financial misconduct by Charlie Rangel, but Congress can pass three major bills, two of which were so large they couldn't be read by anyone, in a matter of a few days (and in the case of the third bill which unconstitutionally taxes AIG bonuses, in just one day).

My dear friends, this country is in trouble. The government is behaving impulsively and has, in my long life, never before been in such a state of disarray. Our response to the financial crisis is beginning to look like nothing so exquisitely as a Chinese fire drill.

We are apparently determined to prove to the world that we're going to make a pig's breakfast out of this crisis, but hey...at least we did it fast!

Impulsive and reckless government - THAT is what the American people (and the world) are seeing, and THAT is what I believe is beginning to frighten us even more than the economic crisis itself.
No, the administrator is not giving me any information, nor would I ask. sm
I made a rejoiner when you once again accused me of something I didn't do (see above posts).  Have you got all the meat off this bone yet!
Very sad. Our soldiers are giving their lives....sm
and they are coming home severly injured to less than adequate medical care after excellent care in the field, no psychological counseling, no support for their families, deplorable living conditions, and on and on. I believe this war is wrong but support the troops 100%. Disgraceful!
Okay, now those of who make $50,000 are giving to those who won't work
Every year at tax time, I have to pay more taxes, more taxes, more taxes. Every year at tax time, my friends and family members who make less than me get back these huge checks of 3, 4, and 5 thousand dollars because of earned income - did they earn that money? No, it is coming out of our checks to give to them. Can't ya'll see that is the way it works now, but it is not just the people with a lot of money giving it? It is us - the middle class!
