Subject: Please report these posts that are on the Word board. (SM)

The design of the Word, Drugs, Abbreviations, Style, and Productivity boards are specifically to get assistance.

If there are posters being rude, bullying, or abusive to those asking questions on these boards, please report those messages. There is a box at the top right of your screen on every message that says Report Message.

Indeed, if posters do not want to be helpful on these boards, they should (and will, if reported) stay off of them.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Rudeness is in the eye of the beholder. sm
Subject: Rudeness is in the eye of the beholder. sm

If you read the initial post, the OP said she looked "everywhere" for the term. Obviously, had she had reference books, she would have found it easily, without losing time searching
"everywhere" (is Google "everywhere?") and then posting her question here, waiting for a response, etc. Time is money!!!

I help on this board all the time and consider myself one of the "nice people," providing support and researched responses to posts. The best advice I can give as a "nice" person is to buy the appropriate tools of the trade--reference books geared to medical transcription.

These newbies are making their lives very difficult by not getting the appropriate tools. If they looked in a proper MT book, they'd find their answers and learn something while researching and be less dependent on strangers whose MT backgrounds are unknown.

Condescension and rudeness are not welcome here. SM
Subject: Condescension and rudeness are not welcome here. SM

If you wish to be helpful and respond to posters asking for assistance, please do - we appreciate all with a helpful attitude.

However, if you wish to be hateful, catty, smart-mouthed, condescending, or rude - go post somewhere else.

If you have issues with a particular post, report it - but do not start flames or post wars on this forum.

The Word board is designed to be of assistance and we will keep it that way!

MT131 - I am sorry if some of us do not know our "basic grammar." Are you the MT God or something? My spell check does not like pandiverticulosis, so I was wondering the same thing. A lot of the MTs are not helpful here, just rude. YUCK!!!!!

I would type:

Typing in all caps is the equivalent of shouting. It will make people not want to listen or read or help. Just trying to give you a heads up.

I have tons of stuff loaded in my favorites, including "Who Named It" (one of my frequent stops) and, although I haven't had time to go through the whole link you posted, it looks great.  Every little bit  helps!

Thanks!

Orthopedic surgeon is doing I&D and wound exploration on a patient with a comminuted tibial fracture and his leg is all messed up. So, the doc says "Tom, Dick, and Harry are all intact." I figure he said this because he was too lazy to list off the various structures he was encountering but maybe he was referring to some specific anatomy?

While the gastrocnemius and soleus are 2 separate muscles, they come together in a common insertion to form the Achilles tendon, hence the frequent references to the "gastrocsoleus complex." The term "gastrocsoleus" would not be seen in Grey's because the information deals with the anatomy of each muscle individually, but that does not mean the two cannot be referred to and transcribed in the above manner.

Stedman's shows it as "gastrocnemius-soleus complex" while HPI Orthopedic Words and Phrases makes a reference to "gastroc/soleus." I have typed it as one word for many years and have never seen any QA objection to it. The bottom line will be, if your particular company or account has a preference, then go with that. In the absence of such a stated preference, however, it is acceptable to transcribe "gastrocsoleus" when dictated. Some will view it perhaps as slang or whatever while others will see it as merely constructing a medical term as done within the acceptable parameters of medical terminology for the purpose of referencing anatomical structures that share a point of commonality.
Cardiac cath questions, deleted posts? sm
Subject: Cardiac cath questions, deleted posts? sm

Some posts just got deleted as we were trying to help someone.  My answer to her format question was: Some of my docs do dictate each artery's findings separately and I number them along the left under each other. Just use your common sense so you end up with a clear report. Good luck. I remember when I first started doing caths and it wasn't easy.
