I get $1.25 per report and $3.50 for IR. I made over sm
$72,000 last year and will pass that this year. I work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day with an occasional extra day but not many. I do work most holidays though as I do not have family in the area and am not married.
I don't consider $1.25 a report good pay, I made that
in 1985. Now I get $2.25 per report, some count as double, i.e. CT of the abdomen and pelvis, I was left MQ at $1.90 per report a year and a half ago. I have a quota to meet, but am not chained to my PC, can spread it out anyway I want. I'm glad you are doing well, but $1.25 per report is just to cheap.
I "only" make $1.15 per report and have made over $62,000 this year so far. I only work 8 hou
5 days a week and pick up one 4-hour weekend shift a month. It depends on the account, your company, the report length, your expanders, normals, etc. I made $1.43 with Edix before I switched and even though I took a per report loss, I make more money in the past 2 years than ever with Edix. I rarely run out of work, which is a HUGE factor. I know that the company I work for is both praised and condemned on this board, but I am happy at KS.
Are you kidding me. I have worked in the business for over 20 years
and they are WONDERFUL. I have never had a question go unanswered. Everyone is super nice. This company is THE BEST.
You are too much...I made almost 60k five years ago
working in a similar recruiting/QA position for a small company. It varies widely. And it is a whole lot nicer position than MTing..well just about anything is IMO. Stop being so envious.
I have had a credit report run for the 2 out of 2 MT jobs I have had over the past 10 years - nm
nm
I made upper 40s with them 6 years.
My insurance was around $350 a month family coverage. I have been gone from them about a year.

I made $13/hour 14 years ago
nm
I made 20.00 an hour 3 years ago -
Even that was not enough money for all the garbage I had to correct.  I went back to straight typing.  Make more money now with lots less stress!
I have been doing this for over 30 years .. I made more in 1983 than I do now . sm

However, I still make a decent living.  What burns me is when I see these cheesy ads telling women they can take their course  (and spend $$$$) and instantly make $50,000 .... you know that doesn't happen.

I was lucky and had the advantage of being trained on the job when I was a junior in high school (my mom was a lab tech and friends with the director of Medical Records).  No matter how good the at-home course is (or is not), to me, you just can't beat the hands on experience of having the benefit of someone else's ears .. but I guess those days are gone like the wind.

I don't know much about painting gourds, but I thought about sitting on a beach in the carribbean and selling cheap crap to tourists .. care to join me?

I made in the low 50s at Spheris 4 years ago.
Yes, you can.

Sorry, but I made more than that as a grocery cashier 7 years ago (nm)
x
I've made in the upper 40s and low 50s for several years now.
From 2 top nationals. Yes, it is possible.

Can everyone do it? No. Some people are better at it than others. Some can put their headset on, hit that pedal and keep on until it's all done. Others cannot sit still, don't have a very good skill set, are easily distracted or listen to too many complaints by others. Never let others help you decide how to feel about YOUR job.

Some of it will rely on your skill set, your mindset and your self-discipline. Some of it will depend on working for a company that you are comfortable with - comfortable with their set up, how work is divided, their base and incentive pay, etc. If you're upset, you'll not perform as well. If you're unhappy, you'll spend more time being upset than working and being productive.

I've made $35,000 for the years I worked there. SM

I would have to kill myself for $50,000 and I don't choose to do that.  I give you credit if you were able to achieve it.

The pay rate has been lowered there now, due to SR.   The rate of pay at MQ has always been higher, but this field is dying out where ever one goes.

What about those who made 12 cents a line only a few years ago
you have no problem with reduction in pay, are you serious? making less money is truly okay with you because you sympathize with those poor administors and owners of the companies who should have the money instead.

I respect your talking about bad work habits but what type of transcription to you do, what percent ESL may I ask? You do realize it is not humanly possible to jump through all the hoops just right now to make that kind of money, not unless you are lucky enough to work on 'good accounts' which are usually saved for those who also do QA, and for new people or whoever gets or however they get it I have no idea.

you must type so many lines a day, but your quality better be 98-100% or you lose benefits and pay and also you must never complain or speak up about anything or you will get the worst dictation on the system only to have your work gone over with people who are paid hourly so they can pretend quality is what matters when we all know what really matters is the hospital saving money for the CEOs and their families.

if anyone cared about the patients, I mean truly cared about the patients as we are expected to do, the whole system would not have gone to capitation and nonprofit to a for-profit business. Halls in hospitals would not be filled with patients who have no one to help them and who lie there moaning and groaning while the nursing staff is cut back to less than skeleton crew, or any kind of ancillary service is outsourced and moved out of the hospital to save money, no matter that elderly people suffer because they may not be able to drive all over.

I could go on and on but it no doubt will be lost on where you are at.

This country seems to be becoming more 'sadistic' and less compassionate day by sorry day.

where were people like you when the money was flowing freely, were you protesting for lower pay - do you want to take lower pay right now because I am sure your boss will oblige...
Yikes, I guess that says it all for this field....I made that over 15 years ago!
Guess it's time to move on :(
Yikes. I made 8 an hour 9 years ago starting. nm

I made 8 cpl when I worked for them 3 years ago. The ESLs were really horrendous, though.
Even the English speaking docs were bad.  I just couldn't make any money with those accounts.  Maybe things have changed in 3 years, but it was not a pleasant experience for me.  It was my very first MT job.
They have not had ICs in 5 years but the decision was just recently made to have PT employees. sm
There are pretty strict guidelines they are adhering to with regard to part-timers. They must have a set schedule of 8 hours one weekend day or 8 hours both weekend days and 4 hours at least 3 evenings per week. The days have to be the same every week.

So if you are looking for say MWF 6-10p and all day Saturday, it would work well for you. If you are looking to work whenever you want, it would not.
Why should I go back to making 9 cpl when I make 11 cpl now?? I made 8 cpl over 12 years ago.
nm
I worked there for abour 4-1/2 years and made excellent money.
I hated to leave but I was only scheduled PT but allowed to work up to 40 hours a week as I wanted. Certain family obligations made me have to choose between FT at Spheris or my local accounts and I chose my local accounts.

I was pulling in about $40,000 a year.
If you made a graph of all the things taken away by Edix/Speris in the last 5 years.....
You would be shocked, although it has been 6 years since it started.....

first charging for errors, about 6 years ago (they stopped that), then insurance changed for the worst, regrading hospitals to their advantage so you would make at least 200. to 300 less a pay period, the list is long, long, long. I can go back 6 years up to 2 years ago when I finally left.
In REPLY TO: What do you call 6.5 cents?? - Geeze, when I started out 15 years ago, I made 8 c
6.5 was the offer for one place and the second offer was 9 cents. I chose the second offer :). Rough out there indeed! There are even places paying per report now... I saw 75 cents, $1.10, $1.15 and $1.25. Ain't good for Rad.
Made 1200-1600 per week paid on a gross line for 5 years!
It CAN be done. The key is either a really high line rate or canned text over and over again with very small accounts. I had a little of both and then some harder stuff thrown in. It also helps if you work like you are on fire most of the day. Needless to say, that gravy train ran out of juice and now I am back to *normal* pay of around $750 per week at another company. SO many variables out there with the *how much do you make?* question.
Isn't Wal-Mart the company that lied/replaced labels several years back with Made in USA? nm
,,
u made 300 a week? That's more than I made there.
But no work, no pay. Nice ppl, they really are, some of the nicest in the business. Just can't communicate to save their lives and the recruiters are lying dogs.

I'd say if you're looking for part-time work, as in less than 20 hrs a week's worth of work, then this place is for you. Use them as ur backup. Because guaranteed that's all they're using you for.

You are kidding right!!

Well, if you like it then that is good for you, but I have definitely worked on better platforms.  This takes me back to the 1990s.  I personally think it sucks, know a lot of other people who thinks it sucks, and have not seen all these happy people on the forum talking about how much they love it.  I read the forum every day, and all I see are the people losing jobs as they are transcribing them and a whole lot of people complaining about how bad the voice quality is on the new platform and how the new platform does not have enough hot keys and too much mouse work.  Maybe we work for a different Transcend!!!

No kidding...nm

Are You Kidding Me?

Well it’s nice to know that HIS management understands their program. It’s just another rah-rah scam to make the industry think that HIS is wonderful. If HIS was as perfect as they claim, HCR Manor Care wouldn’t be looking to sell. Why would they drop such a wonderful company that only took 7+ years to make a profit?

Plain and simple, HIS only interest in a US team is to gain clients. It sounds like a good sales presentation, but when it comes down to it, the client ends up being offshored due to the high US MT retention rate. Why the high retention rate if HIS is so perfect? So keep painting the pretty picture HIS, but your image in the industry is destroyed.

I was just kidding
about them guessing. It's just their lines are never the same as mine, or anyone elses for that matter. Report what? This is their Standard Operating Procedure and always has been. They just don't tell you that when they hire you. Best thing to do is find something else, and if that doesn't work, keep on truckin'. Also, do you ever find it odd that you don't know any of the other MTs that work there? Check any Email from them. Do you see your name or a distribution list? They must have something to hide. Good Luck and keep your chin up.
Was just kidding.

I thought it was kind of cute, thought maybe we could now do some pole dancing to earn some extra money in between reports, good exercise I hear.   I do typos all the time and I hate to post some of the times because I am afraid that I will do the same.   Seriously to me it is great to be an IC and not an employee have been doing it for 20+ years.

Good luck in making the right decision, just did not want you to base it on the 7.5% of SS you had to pay.

Are you kidding? A lot of us did
sux
are they kidding???
i have 2 QA jobs and get paid 18 at one an hour and 18.75 at the other per hour.. THAT IS A DISGUSTING LINE RATE! GOOD GOD!
kidding? You have to be kidding...sm

You must be deluded to even have a thought that you can get no ESL MDs at least in a hospital or MTSO setting.......unless you work for yourself and you pick only Anglo dictators.....

The Hispanics are of great number in the USA now, they are the largest minority in the USA, 40 million of them.  And Michigan has it's ARAB community.........tons of Arabs live in and around Ann Arbor and other areas of Michigan.

Even small town America (think New Mexico) - all have ESL mds....NM being mainly native American and Hispanic from Spain and Chicano-Hispanic from Mexico....

Nowhere in the USA any longer....except perhaps MAINE......and VERMONT.....maybe they have no ESL MDs.

GOOD LUCK......*L*

No kidding. sm
I'd like to see what their speech recognition does with an ESL doc dictating the word esophagogastroduodenoscopy.
No kidding.
x.
Are they kidding?????
x
You are kidding us, right?
You were actually threatened by women who wanted to keep you bad enough for themselves? Aren't we just a little full of ourselves!
No, I'm not kidding...
YES, REALLY...

This REALLY happened to me once! I'm not being full of myself, as you put it. I am being totally honest. Nothing about the situation was flattering, whatsoever! I felt completely violated. It was a terrible experience to go through as a single parent trying to make ends meet.

A few years ago, I had accepted a job with a company and had actually turned in my resignation to my current employer. When my team leader found out where I was going, she called someone she knew at that company and told them lies about me. When the company I was talking to got her call, they reneged and stopped talking to me altogether.

I panicked. I was JOBLESS! Then, my team leader called me and told me she wanted me back. She was the hero in her mind. My team leader TOLD ME HERSELF what she had done--as if she had done me a FAVOR! She told me that she did that just to keep me with her. I wouldn't have had any idea what had happened if she hadn't told me what she did.

As previously mentioned, I was a single parent at the time, and the sole breadwinner; so, I had no other choice but to work for her until I found something else. I did find something else about a year later, after that particular team leader had moved on to another company.

You certainly seem to be a very judgmental and very bitter person. Perhaps it is YOU who is full of yourself! Until you go through this sort of experience, I don't think you have any room to talk at all!
no kidding
I work VERY PART TIME (1.5-3 hours per day) for a company and make $1400.00 per month. However, I am a 17-year MT/QA/auditor/instructor/manager, know how to use ShortHand 8 to the best of its ability, and make it my business to know every physician's business. Also, the Shapin management person who is posting here is most unprofessional. It would be more professional not to respond to the accusations on this board. Makes him/her look very immature and argumentative.
no kidding! lol
z
Are you kidding me?
Is that SE status or as an employee?
R U kidding me??????????
They may have a mentor program but the company overall is the P-I-T-S, management, communication, you name it. Revolving door indeed. QA is a complete and utter joke and the worst I have ever seen in 12 years of experience. Your newbies can do better anywhere except OSI.
Not kidding
Heather is a super mentor manager.  The mentor program is the only program that is not the P-I-T-S as you put it but it will give them good experience.  It is not a good longterm choice but the program itself is good.
Of course not!!! Are you kidding? U think they
Just one more thing to show they don't have it together!
No..... are you kidding?
Almost that per week.
No kidding? nm
nm
Are you kidding - is this it?
I don't have a lot of experience with nationals. Are these the ONLY companies that don't make you punch a time clock? Unbelieveable if true!
No kidding!
I'm an American MT, and I do a great job! Yippie! It's a a bunch of &$@#.
Are you kidding....7.4 cpl is low
I am working for a wonderful company with good bennies, low health premiums, etc. (small co).  I make 8.5 cpl with only 1 specialty and only about 5 different docs and a couple PA-Cs.  No ESL.  I feel like I'm in heaven.   Just started and averaging about 1500 lines per day.  I also might add that there are incentives.
Are you kidding?
Terrible!
