What has sending work to India done?
We have upset the economy of India, creating an even larger rift and making the poor even poorer because we have inflated the economy in the cities and of those who have had a chance to be educated. The poor have lost even more footing.

We have lost job opportunities for our own Americans, but the companies continue charge the hospitals the same amount for transciption, however their overhead continues to drop, corporate salaries continue to increase and our rate of pay stays the same or drops.

India is a country that allows very very little importing of anything made in the US, so it is a 1 way deal for them.

The individuals from other companies do not pay taxes, so we continue to pay to support those in our country who have gone on the public roles for aid and assistance.
Wouldn't it be nicer to have some of these people working again?

It's not just overhiring. They are sending the best work to India.
They have always sent work there but I believe they have geared up these efforts in the past six months, and the easiet work (ER). That is when I noticed there was not consistent work.  I had to move on and so will others.
They're sending everything to India now.

They make no bones about sending to India
There was an article here in the Atlanta Journal/Constitution and talking about the top companies in Georgia- Transcend being 1 of those. They made it very clear that they sent work to India, said not enough MTs here to handle their work. I read it personally and saved the article for awhile. I wish I still had- I would put on here word for word but that was last year. I could not believe when I read not enough when I see Transcend people running out of work.
Saw on the news that ID theft is big biz in India cause of the credit card industry sending their

NADA NADA. Left after my 2-week training.
Kinda funny, they call themselves DTS America, but help desk calls are from India. sm
Otherwise, though, the people are good to deal with, pay on time.  I only worked part time, and my account was on ExText.  After 90 days, you can have direct deposit.

Otherwise, though, the people are good to deal with, pay on time.  I only worked part time, and my account was on ExText.  After 90 days, you can have direct deposit.  I quit a couple of months ago and still get emails and phone calls asking for extra help, so maybe whoever said they are disorganized is correct.  I didn't care for the account I had, but my supervisor was great.
Looks like the original post got pulled, too. Too many of us looking for "the" place to work,

Yes the same MTs sending work to QA
day in and day out. I get sick of it. And nothing is done about it from management.
re sending work to QA
I really don't believe we'd be penalized or cut for that, UNLESS it was for the same type mistakes over and over, or inexcusable ones that would be caught in proofing, etc. Hope I'm right.
Anyone work for Breitner. They keep sending me an email to work for them. What
do you know about this company at present.
Outsourcing is a hospital sending work out to SM
be done by a service (for our purposes, this is a good definition), while OFFSHORING is when a hospital or service sends the work outside the U.S. (like to India, Pakistan, Phillippines, etc.) to be done.
Transtech just may be sending some of our work to that other MTSO again, and maybe

that small MTSO that they sometimes use to help them out offshores and that is why we MT's at Transtech suddenly have an abundance of work this week -- asking for extra help this week -- quite a new thing with TT.  With the India cables being cut, putting those India MT's out of work, it makes me wonder if that service that TT sometimes uses to do our work maybe offshores.

Just thinking.  Keep those India cables DOWN/CUT !!!!!  We U.S. MT's need the work kept here in the U.S.

Webmedx must be sending work to overflow co's as soon as...sm
regular employees start hitting overtime. The economy has an effect on the workload, I know, but not like this, not during peak flu season. Does anyone know for a fact that they are doing this? TIA
I would agree. Another case for sending work overseas (sm)
Those MTs work their schedules. Ask any MTSO or management of a national transcription company, and you'll find out it's like pulling teeth to get MTs with good work ethic to actually work the hours they are contracted to work. This is another reason that overseas transcription is used.

You may not believe me, but this *is* a growing trend in the MT industry. MTs that are both skilled and have a good work ethic are a rare find. I don't understand why - perhaps it is so many new MTs expecting working at home to be a walk in the park. I've definitely seen a downward spiral in the past 10 years.
No need to look. Sending 90% of the work offshore has put money in the bank for me. sm
It has lowered my stress level. I work half the hours I used to. Unfortunately for those of you that have your heads in the sand, there are options for companies now that do not include putting up with what we had to for years from MT's. My accounts are happy because the turnaround times are better than ever and the quality is about the same. The offshore companies have improved greatly in the past 10 years and the quality for some of them is the same or better than some in-house departments. Even my customers are amazed when they realize this.

I tell my customers that the work is being done offshore and guess what? THEY DO NOT CARE! They just want it done fast, done right and at a lower cost. They are happy and refer us to other hospitals who also DO NOT CARE THAT IT IS BEING SENT OFFSHORE.

You are fooling yourselves if you think hospitals will not use a service if they send work overseas.

I just wish I had done this 10 years ago instead of 3.

If you think I can't sleep at night, you're wrong. Quite the opposite. I don't feel bad about sending work out of the country because I am now providing money to someone who might otherwise starve.

As Americans, we do not know what it is like to truly be hungry or need shelter. If we did, we might appreciate what we have a lot more. I certainly do now and to be honest, I am happy not to have to listen to every whine and ailment of transcriptionists and excuses all day long. I KNOW the work is getting done.
Keystrokes sending sending my W2, anyone else? NM

Just curious, why would not wireless work? I use - sm - Not OP
a wireless USB modem now as I do not have DSL or cable and cannot get satellite where I am (too many trees). I use it the wireless w/o any problem for an internet based platform. If this company also uses an internet based platform then where is the problem? I find my Wireless aircard (875U) slower than DSL but a huge improvement on dial-up. It takes me about 4 minutes to download a 19 minute file, whereas before it took 8-10 minutes; and only 1-2 minutes for 10 minute files, etc. Sure it is not as fast but it still works just fine. So I would think that a USB Wireless Aircard would work just fine for any company that uses an internet platform.
Just curious, do you work for a service? SM
I would love a 12-hour window of time.
Just curious, none of you save your work? - sm
I save my reports and hang onto them for a while in case the doctor needs a copy, also so the next time they dictate on that patient I don't have to re-type everything, saves me tons of time as I am not the fastest typist in the world. Granted I don't show them to anyone as the OP infers, and she can do that IF she edits out all the information pertaining to patient name, drs. names, etc. I bet most MTs keep copies of their reports, it would be foolish not to. My one doc calls me at least once a week looking for a report, though it is up on the FTP they won't retrieve it themselves, I end up encrypting it and emailing it to them. So if I did not have a copy then what would I tell them, sorry, guess you will just have to tough it out and go to the FTP because I cannot help you since I save nothing. --- My work computer is just that, no one else uses it, and that is all I use it for.
Funny you should say that...M-F clinic work is exactly what I do;) sm
Like one poster said, the Su-Th or Tu-Sat scheduling seems to have become trendy.

I'm very content with the company and schedule I have. I just keep my eyes on the board to see what is available.
I am curious as to how many of you MTs have work shortages - sm

Is it just me or is there down time for everyone?  I realize we just had the lovely holidays.  The holidays are gone!  I have never seen it this bad at the company I work for.  I'm getting sick and tired of my entire life revolving around my computer checking for work.  When I call management to ask what is happening, I am told the jobs are already checked out.  What jobs?  How can jobs get checked out if I don't see any in the pool?  It makes me think that (1) they are lying or (2) whoever is running the show is purposely bypassing my work pool.

This has gone way behond getting old.

Much good work going to India. Bad work left

Funny. I worked a year and NEVER ran out of work (sm)
I was on one account. Literally only one time in the entire year did I have to go to a second account. However, I can do every single work type and have tons of experience. There were some ESLs, but it's nothing like the tough ESLs I'm getting elsewhere.

OTI was wonderful. It remains the best company I have ever worked for, and I've worked for many. I left because there weren't benefits, and I had to have them. If not for that, I'd be with them. Great people.

Their QA leaves you alone unless there's a problem. They don't give you QA scores - you either do an acceptable job, or you will hear from them.

You work when you want, just get the line count in every week. There's no schedule.

Software is a little dated, but not really MT unfriendly. Just could be improved. Not made by MTs and needs more input by MTs.

Friendly people. Absolutely the best out there if you don't need benefits.
Required hours for IC work~~curious

I keep seeing ads where you are required to submit a schedule and work scheduled hours for IC positions.  Is this legal?  I thought that was an IRS requirement of independent contractors that you do your work on your own time.  Am I wrong?  It seems like the industry is headed in this direction.  Companies don't want to hire employees and don't want to pay taxes either..  I guess I can understand that, but I am not sure how they can get away with it.

Anyone work for Axolotl? Curious as to cpl & benefits
I've been an MT for 15 years with local clinics & am looking nationally now.  Any info would be great....cpl range, insurance costs, PTO, etc.  Thanks!
Just curious, where do you work if you dont mind my asking. nm

Fair? Just curious, why does all the work in a pool go to
the same people and some don't get anything except what they can scrap up? Just curious about this
Just curious - how many hours a week do you work? nm

Just curious if the MDIs who are out of work are on acute care? nm

Funny how no mention is made of this when there is no work, which has been the case for much of the

There has been no mention of this for months because of no work/low work for months now.

Today might be a good to apply since there is work today.

We have had plenty of work for the past 3 days, and now getting emails to work schedule to completion and get required lines or more!

I was a little troubled by that e-mail, too. The funny thing is, I work
an IC job that supplements my pay, and I got a call just Monday because I had not met my producton goal there. Apparently another vice president decided to earn a check this week...LOL.

No matter how much they jump up and down, you cannot transcribe what is not there. I was more than happy to remind that individual I do not get paid unless I work, so not meeting goal is probably MORE critical to me.

I thought by busting my tush on 2 jobs I would be guaranteed never to run out of work, but both failed me this past holiday. For all the gymnastics, I will be working all weekend this weekend just to have a decent paycheck. Sigh.
No account has pulled out. They have a 100%
retention rate of accounts for the past 3 years.
I believe you, too. You couldn't have pulled that out of a hat. nm

Be sure and get back to us after the rug gets pulled
It WILL happen, you know.
It's just a matter of when, not if.
This industry is headed towards a monopoly and total control by just a couple obscenely large MTSOs. We already know the aspirations of those companies is to dominate the entire MT field.
The way they'll accomplish that is by crushing all the little guys.
Now most of the work is done in India.
aa
They were pulled into Warminster and some may now be in New York.
:
let's see how long it takes for THIS to get pulled

we have actually been told in the past to not post about them -- it's THAT BAD.  Womanizing horrible ignorant piece of crap company that doesn't give a rip about you.  If you like being treated like an idiot -- go for it!

Yes, Teresa and Beth pulled that one in!
xxxx
Same here. I pulled my monitor closer sm

Now I see that teeny print fine.

Oh yes...I pulled 25 echos in a row this morning
even though the work is always routed evenly to all MTs at my company.  Right.
Sounds like the trick MQ pulled
several years ago and enriched themselves immeasurably, leaving MTs in the lurch. (I know two who had to go bankrupt.) Were they punished? But Noooooo! Were they rich beyond their wildest dreams? Yeeeees.
To say the work that comes in from India is awful...

... is an understatement. I would pull some of those jobs that had beentranscribed in India and there were some that had entire sections crossed out and retyped because they were wrong (and scary wrong too - wrong medications...). The hospital I used to work for uses them and when I still worked at HealthScribe India was doing this hospitals discharge  summaries. I refuse to use that hospital because I know the transcription will be of very poor quality andI refuse to play games with my health and the health of my loves ones.

Work is going to India or some other country. nm

All of CBays work goes to India. nm
:
Most of their work is done in India by Indian MTs. sm
Tell your lead person you need more work and commit to it. They will work with you if you are good with a high accuracy rating.

Good luck - been there, done that, ain't going back ever!
Thank NAFTA for work going to India
AAMT cannot discriminate because of this law (I asked them years ago).  I think 50% of new MTs being from India shows their determination and pursuit of excellence; perhaps American MTs need to follow their example and compete! I challenge MTs to be the best they can, and that is at this pont determined by their ability to pass the CMT exam. Go, girls!
Exactly. India work stinks.
x
You are a fool to think US work won't go to India
Happened to a group of us. We had a US force and India force, and guess what, it was more cost efficient to send ALL work overseas, hence all US employees laid off. You really are naive to think they won't do that someday, but I hope you drain their pockets dry before they do.
Yes they do send work to India
I know because they told someone I know who is a facility that they would if they wanted their work sent over there.
