Priorities are what it is all about. Who puts the job above the family or above having a life? As you reap so shall you sow. Many here are one day going to wonder why their children don't make time for them. I could have earned that weekend differential while my kids were younger, but since they were involved in sports and music activities, those weekends free to be at their events was so much more important than an extra buck fifty an hour. Once my kids were gone, I also volunteered to work weekends and holidays so people with young ones could spend that time at home. My kids are out of state so we don't see them but one or maybe two holidays each year. I do try to visit them several times each year though and am now spending my winters in Arizona. One daughter and two grandkids live there, and it sure beats the cold Wisconsin winters. My husband is self employed so can arrange his schedule to match what I do. I am not retired yet but soon I hope. Lost some 401K money so I guess I will be working longer than planned, but i am in an IC position with no set commitment to hours so I do have that freedom to still be able to visit the kids when I choose to! Now I have grandkids who have become a priority and I will spend more time with them than tied to a job, pay cut or not! No check could possibly bring the joy that seeing the look on those little faces when grandy comes to the door brings me.
