How is there freedom as an IC if you have a set schedule?

Posted By: Don't get it. on 2009-02-06
In Reply to: Mixed up a little? (sm) - Get your story straight.

To me, the trade off of having no medical, dental, paid time off, etc., it that I get to work when I want. Just because I work went I want, doesn't mean I don't get the work done in a reasonable manner. I keep my TATs and I transcribe more lines each week than anyone else on my account, but I do it when I want. One day I may work in the morning and the next day I might work at night. It shouldn't matter when I work as long as the work is back to the client in TAT. Luckily, I work for MTSOs that understand I am an IC and I have gotten rate increases. Guess I am just lucky. :D

I don't see it as a matter of MTs complaining, I see it as companies trying to get away with an illegal action. JMO.

They want you to keep your schedule for TAT purposes but will work with you to find a good schedule
I love working there.
I actually switched from a M-F schedule to a S-T schedule...sm
because of the financial situation.  I was offered a lot better money to work this schedule on a particularly picky account.  I can live with working on Sunday evenings because that is when my 2 teenage kids, also very active in sports, band, church, driving, dating, social life, etc., etc., are vegging on the couch, relaxing for the evening before it all starts again.  It was worth the sacrifice to me to be able to afford all the activities, and it really is not much different than working the M-F shift.  I do have Fridays off to kind of catch my breath while the kids are at school or go and take care of business.  I do not feel I have given up any of my life to work on Sundays.  Most companies will be flexible on the schedule for Sunday because of church, family dinner, whatever.  The way I look at it is later on, I may be able to switch to a M-F schedule if I am willing to give a little now.  Even if I don't, to me it was worth it for the extra money and mommy time I get on Fridays.  I am widowed so I do put a lot of time into my kids.  This is just what works for me.  On the other hand, it is ok to only want to work M-F, there is nothing wrong with that.  You have to do what is best for you.
I have Verizon Freedom too...may
I ask why it won't work for you any longer?
Anyone know anything about Freedom Type
I am getting gun shy with MT companies after 2 bad experiences and have just applied to Freedom Type. They sound very nice but so did the others. I am just trying to find out if anyone here knows of them and how they are to work for. Thanks.
Freedom Type
I love working for Freedom Type!!  The owner is terrific and QA extremely competent.  The work itself is fairly straightforward.  I am glad to be part of this team!
Freedom Type
I have found these people VERY easy to work. I don't find QA demanding either. They pretty much just leave you alone to do the work. There's also a good support system. Lots of integrity with this company.
FREEDOM TYPE

Hello out there! Would anyone have any info on this company?  Any info appreciated!  They are running an ad on one of the other transcription sites.

TIA!

FREEDOM TYPE

Well thank you Very Much for your response!

Can anyone tell me how the work is done?  Do you have a platform?  Do you continuously type or do you have to save out each patient?

Thanks.

IC here too and love the freedom but
consultant that helps you know what to write off.  There are so many write-offs that I don't see tax time as a killer.

Does anyone work here or know anything about it? Archives are old. Please respond or email. They have no info on their website, only application. Thanks!
freedom to express

I agree with the above poster. If you can't vent to people who are in the field about your good or bad experiences, then this is not a democracy. Personally, I do keep a lot of mine to myself basically because I don't like dealing with negative people who will judge me. It stems from not having a very supportive family and not being able to express myself growing up. What is heaven for one is hell for another but either way, people need to express themselves and get it out.

In this profit-driven healthcare industry, MTs are under appreciated and in many cases abused by management and perhaps isolated and ignored by other MTs. We definitely need a support system and these forums are supposed to serve as a support system out of the work place where we can vent and hopefully be comforted by kind words. We work in an industry that refuses to acknowledge the fact that if it were not for us, they would not have jobs. We are the industry but many of us do not feel we have much clout in the way we are treated, i.e. coldly, indifferently and there-are-more-where-you came from attitude. Lets start cooperating instead of competing especially in the forums and let people have their say and try to embrace with kindness. We all need a pat on the back.

Freedom Type
I have worked for them for a long time now. As long as you do your work and do your minutes daily, there are no problems. I have never had any issues getting paid on time. I would suggest you give them a try and make your own opinion.
Freedom Type
Does anyone have any information on this company?  I can't find anything current and was wondering if it is worthwhile to apply.  Thanks.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH
It is called Freedom Of Speech, a RIGHT we have in AMERICA.  And fact is fact, truth is truth.  If you can back up statements, you are NOT liable.  Speech is free.  But to state lies as fact, then that is wrong.  I don't see many of us MTs stating lies or making up stories about the abuses we endure.  This is just another MTSO scare tactic to keep those in the know from spreading the truth which in turns affects the corporate livelihood and the continued use of slave-labor MT.  The TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE, and the MT or MTs will prevail if not pushed/scared/threatened by the big money taking advantage of the SKILL of the MT who actually earns the wages they so despately wish to exploit.  Stick to your guns, knock them on their rumps!
Why, it's freedom, Lara...
This is what freedom is all about.  Here, women have freedom to flaunt their bodies to random men just because they want to, maybe because it makes them feel good about themselves because they have no self-esteem.  Then, when men objectify them and use them for their bodies, they begin to complain because they are being objectified.  Makes no sense at all....
Freedom type
Too much busy work for what they pay, lots of zipping files, sending and resending, logging your time and sending...I knew after a couple hours that it wasn't going to make me any $$$ to pay the bills, so I went with something else.
Freedom Type - platform? - sm

What is the platform like that Freedom Type uses?  Hard to get used to or up and running immediately?

Axolotol vs Freedom type
Does anyone have any info on Axolotol or Freedom type.  I have been offered jobs with both and don't know which to chose.  Axolotol requires to use their equipment but they offer insurance (which I do not really need)  Freedom Type says they are strictly IC status  HELP
Any Freedom Type workers here? - sm

I've heard nice things, read nice things.  Do you like working here?  Do you enjoy the work?  Set your own hours and workload?

TIA!

Freedom Type questions.

Do they hire IC?  Do they have their own software, or can you use MS Word?  C-phone or FTP?  Are you able to have your own account, or do you get switched around at lot?

Thank you for any info.

Should I test for Freedom Type???

As much as I enjoy the freedom of working at - sm
home, I've come to detest the loss of so many other freedoms I'd taken for granted: Freedom to buy everything on your grocery list at Safeway, not just the few that fit in your budget. Freedom to FILL your gas tank, not just put in $5 and hope that gets you back home from Safeway. Freedom to take a vacation once in a while, and if you DO take a vacation, you actually get to GO somewhere, and don't just spend it in front of the TV set because you can't afford to leave the house. The freedom to put even a tiny amount of money into my savings account with each paycheck, instead of continually siphoning off what little is left in the bank to pay bills each month, would be nice.

When I worked in an office, I only had to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and I made 3 times what I'm making now, and I now work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.

I was willing to trade a little bit of poverty and maybe have to work a few more hours per pay period in order to be free of supervisors breathing down my neck all the time, but honestly, I miss being able to do things on the weekends besides just work. That's gotten REALLY old.
Freedom Type - Anyone worked for them???

Does anyone know anything about this company?  I am not sure what to think.  Please help.

Freedom Type --- any opinions sm
on this company?  Good, bad, and ugly?
Freedom of speech doesn't really apply. SM
1. This is a private website and the Admin/owner can do as they like. It's their turf. Freedom of speech doesn't really apply on private boards. There are boards that don't allow discussions regarding politics, religion, etc. - and that is not a violation of freedom of speech.

2. The threads are USUALLY left alone until people start mentioning names, and then the entire thread is removed. I am guessing the Admin does not have either the capability OR the time to sit and pick through the posts one by one to remove only a few. If I remember right, the Admin has said that they will continue to remove threads that post names or flame out.

I work for Freedom Type. They pay twice a month. It's a very sm
pleasant place to work, all clinic. I love it there.
If you choose employee status, there is not that much freedom..sm
These days, most companies make you punch time clocks and want you to demonstrate 8 hours within a certain window, sometimes 12, sometimes 8 hours. With the larger companies, gone are the good-old days where your full-time status was based on your productivity. It's a shame. I work for Webmedx and would love to get out of this business, but now is not the time for me to do so. Good luck.
i hope not...freedom of speech is what makes US great...
why can't we vent our frustrations? we are in a grieving process for all that we have lost.

schedule
Do you give them a set schedule or a window of when you will work? What confuses me about the "set schedule" is that we are contracted to produce certain # lines, not hours. So if you are satisfied with your line count but are scheduled for 8 hours, do you still have to complete all 8?

Also, I haven't asked them yet, but are we allowed to work extra hours/days outside our schedules?

How are they with time off? How much notice would you give for a 1-week vacation?
Right now I have no set schedule, so I will
nm
I never ever have the same schedule sm
and it's worked fine for years now. I don't know what I can do - this flexibility is the only reason I have stuck with MQ this long.
schedule

I read through all the posts below yesterday, and a couple of them mention a grid with all days and hours listed and you have to mark what hours you will work (but that this has to be approved by supervisor).  It didn't sound like it had to be continuous hours and you could work several split shifts.

I agree about needing the flexibility.  It's the only reason I have stayed with MQ.  I  am a part time SE too and I have another full time job.  Half of the time I am available to work, there is no work to do,  so I have had to be flexible to even get in my quota.  I know if I give them a set schedule, there won't be work half the time, so what do you do then?   Another thing, my schedule changes from week to week, and from what I read below, it sounds like it is just one grid, so that would mean that your schedule would have to stay the same from week to week -- doesn't work for me either.

It's too bad -- they are going to lose a lot of good MTs over this

No, not still with them. No set schedule.
You are an IC with them. You have 24 hours to complete your work and return via FTP site. At least that was my routine on my account. Don't know if every account is the same.

I no longer work for them as I went out and got my own accounts and the account I was on with them was lost to a larger national - go figure!

They are pretty decent company, but I don't know what kind of work load they have - you will have to talk with them.

Like I said, pay is always on time, correct and accurate, and you work as an IC, last I knew.

All you can do is give them a try.

As far as work load, 1200 lines a day +/-. Not enough for me!

Not too bad, if you like a schedule
I worked for them for about 2 years.  I had worked as an IC and thought I would try switching to employee status.  They were great in the fact that they sent all my equipment, training was even fun (great trainers), supervisor and tech support always responded quickly.  However, once you set a schedule you must adhere to it.  You are actually only allowed to deviate once a month, depends on your supervisor though.  For me, that was a problem.  After being an IC for many years it was hard to go back to a schedule.  I'm working as an IC again now and hope I never have to go back to being an employee.  I wish you luck!
