They definitely rip you off with your line count. Figured this out long ago and quit long ago

How long from test to job?

I know this varies by company, individual, etc., but I am curious to know how long it took from the time you applied until you started work.  I have recently started the ‘ol job search.  I have been with the same company for 7 years and just can't take the lack of communication and lack of work any longer.  As one who anxiously awaits each paycheck, I can't really be out of work for very long.... (Trying to make myself feel better here!)

I took the test...long and arduous.

The worst part was that they wouldn't give me a line rate until I took the test.  Even after the test I had to endure a phone interview right out of Hollywood...questions bordering along the same absurd lines of if you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be.  Even though I was a bit of a smartass and laughed a lot when I was asked such things (I mean, even the interviewer knew how ridiculous it was), they still offered me the job but they wouldn't budge on pay rate, insisting everyone gets the same amount...and for 80% ESL....it just felt like bad juju, so I opted out.  So glad I did.  I just adore where I am now.

If anything, take the test just to see what it's like.  Be prepared to spend at least an hour or so doing it.  There was actual sample dictations, which I found fun.  Time consuming, but fun.

The test is long and tedious...

not many with years of experience can pass her test.  Also, you have to give up your social security number before you're even offered a job.  There is a handwritten test, 2 voice files, and a sheet to fill out with your experience, so that sounds to me like quite a chunk of time to get that all situated, and along with that is an e-mail that states if we don't call you in a week, call us because we're very busy.  Also, they have no time for editing, so make sure you really know your stuff.  Congrats to you anon for really knowing your stuff.

I have no idea of rate, but was turned off from the get go after applying.

P/S:  Recruiter e-mails at midnight or later; so be up and ready in the middle of the night for e-mail correspondence.

Thanks! How long does the test typically take to complete? nm

They didn't test me; I just had a nice long

chat with their recruiter.  Very casual and enjoyable.  She is a nice lady, funny, and enthusiastic about transcription.  As far as equipment, if you need a Lanier they will rent it to you.  They sent me a foot pedal for the internet account I occasionally typed, no rent required on that.  I don't know the exact computer requirements but Bayscribe doesn't call for a supercomputer by any means.  Hope I have been helpful.

Anything on Transrx, before I get to this long dictation for test.

MxSecure...how long does it take for them to contact you after you pass test?

I got an email stating that I passed test and they would contact me....just wondering how long I should expect to wait....THANKS!

Anyone know how long it takes to hear back from Prescyse after taking the test?
Will they get back to you?
Execuscribe On-Line Test Score
Hi! I just tested with Execuscribe yesterday and recieved a score of 88%. Does anyone know if this is a passing score?  Thanks!!
I finally went on line to their site and took the test...sm
Then I heard the next day. Didn't accept their offer as pay was too low and I was looking for a different platform. Good luck!

How long to get MQ line count up...
I was hired several weeks ago but ended up waiting about two weeks after sending in my contract to even start (their doing not mine). My training period ended today. I've only been working two weeks but according to the contract should've been working four weeks already. Are they going to expect me to hit my line count this early on when I started later than expected? I seem to be getting some of the same awful dictators over and over again on top of this being my first time in acute care. I honestly don't think I'll be able to reach my line count next pay period because I only got halfway there this pay period. Thoughts?

That is like asking how long is a string. Top line is whatever you can get.

How long does it take Webmedx to respond to an on line app? (sm)

Just sent it off Friday, so I guess it could take a couple of days.  I am just ready to make the leap and I think I am leaning towards this company.  They sound pretty good from their ad and I see few/if any negative posts about them.

Just curious how long the whole process will take from application to testing to potential hiring and beginning work.  Any input?

Sent in the initial application, got an immediate E-mail with some different questions on it which I submitted 2 days ago.

Really want to work for this company part time for now, possibly full time later.

Any info appreciated.

I typed on a line that long way back when. Would NEVER do it again. Takes forever

You'll work as an employee, not IC. Need your own C-phone and pay for your own long distance line

Low line counts; paying long distance; getting crap work skipped by others.

Usually a spelling test, a punctuation test, and maybe 3-6 test files to do. Sometimes done using

I took a test for a company and my foot pedal would work with the test and I had keep going back
over the dictation time and again to get all the words because I couldnt stop and start it by the foot pedal.  What can I do about this.
Just took the test myself. No actual dictation to transcribe. Just a written test.
For 13 cpl, I might do it if the dictators aren't a total horror.
I just took the test today - thought it was a great test of MT skills.

There is no written test. Must have been a different company. I took their ortho test sm
and it was easy. You had to know your terminology but it was easy to understand AND I used my foot pedal.
A line is a line is a line. Doesn't matter if we are talking about radiology or acute care.

1600 is not a fair minimum requirement.  Sure you can achieve 1600, it shouldn't be the required minimum.

Is the test through mttest.com a timed test? Thanks. nm

No problem :) No matter how long, it is too long for me - I am broke the day after payday. Kids wi
do that to you!

I know that they have worked very hard to make sure that checks are never late and I can say that in the past two years, I have had one problem (2 days late) and in the past 18 months, they have all been on payday and perfect.

I know that there are a lot of hard feelings in MT in general. I also know firsthand (and I am not mgmt) how hard KS has worked to get things going good.

I would not want to walk in an MTSO's shoes for any amount of money, but that's just me. I like to finish my work for the day, forget about work when not working and get paid on payday. I never want the other things that go with mgmt or owning a company of any kind :)
What really sucks is that I looked for a LONG, long time -sm
before joining DRC - wanted a highly reputable, not-too-big co. that was LOCAL, and that treated its MTs humanely. I'm very happy with DRC & had planned to stay with them permanently.
Means a line is a line is a line, even if it only has one word on the line
it is considered a line.
Long, long history of not paying...and
similar posts have been made here in the past few months. Everyone thinks they will be different, and then they end up coming back here to warn others that they don't pay.
"a line is a line" means gross line.
Gross line is a line, no matter how long or short.
but those were long, long lines for
most of the reports. You could make more with a 65-character line count.
Yes to old reports! Their ExText has all the regular functions except line counts are done on line
s
Thanks for the info! Do you *feel* like you make more with a gross line v. character line? (nm)

Oh, they make money off us. Line rate is 17 cents a gross line.nm
z
Keystrokes has very few accts on line using ExText. Most use Cphones/2nd line. Lots of Rad
s
Could someone help me with the figuring out of gross line versus character line? sm
I have generally been paid by character line, 65-character line.  Now, I have had job opportunities offering to pay gross line but it like 3 cents cheaper than what I am being paid now.  A few places I have read that gross line is MUCH better, but is it much better if the pay is so much lower?  Please explain how it works or equals out.  This position has offered me 6 cents per gross line - what would that equal out to in character lines?  Thanks...so confused...
Spaces are not taken into account with gross lines....a line is a line...sm

if there seven words on a line.

or two

one

or a full line of typing...all of the companies that I have worked for define a gross line as 1 inch margins, 12 pt courier font....does not matter what we type in margins or font.....we convert all reports to the 1 inch margins and courier 12 font and then count the lines.  not the blank spaces between the lines.

Hope this helps.

I left MQ for TT. The base line rate was less at TT, but overall I make more per line with the
shift differential (I work second shift) and the incentive plan (I have never once failed to make at least an extra half cent per line on incentives - most of the time a penny). I was scared to death to make that move, as I had been with MQ since back in the Transcriptions Limited days. I have to say, though, that it was the best career move I have ever made and I have never, not once, regretted it.

I hope that was of some help.
15 years ago, I charged .22 per line to big accounts. Now I have been forced down to .13 per line.
This is in part due to offshore companies, in part due to newbies coming in and underbidding to get an account but not being able to service it and then the account expecting everyone else to meet that price. The market is being driven down by many forces, and it is not pretty. I used to pay .14 per line (gross line too) and now pay my subs 0.08. It is not something I wanted to do, but something that was necessary. With only 15 MTs, I feel the squeeze more than some of the big companies out there, but cannot grow and keep up the same standards.

Healthcare in general is not the money-maker it once was, and transcription has taken a hard hit over the years.
Line counts - the lower the line count requirements
the harder the account and problems with trying to get production off the platform the company uses.
I see they pay on a VBC line. Isn't that a huge paycut from a 65-char. line with spaces? nm
x
Actually, SBC does allow it. I had my line changed to a business line and talked with a sm
supervisor who okayed it.  As long as I am listening to voice files, and not one computer talking to another, faxing, etc., it is within their guidelines.  :-)
Ask what is a line. I was offered 6 clp for a 42 black character line sm
that seemed to strange, but really it was not so bad.  Came out pretty close to a 65 k/s line at 8.5 to 9.
Line By Line...... any info on this company?
Thanks!
