I couldn't wait to sign up for the insurance this year...

It was going to be cheaper than what we are paying now. Then I got the payment sheet and I was really disappointed. The rates are almost double as last year's rates.

The insurance I have now is cheaper even though their deductible is quite high and they don't pay for ER coverage. After finally talking my husband into going under TT's insurance (that alone took almost a year to convince him), now I have to tell him we're staying where we're at now....unless TT does find a better plan.

I will be waiting [im]patiently to see what they come up with.

My client couldn't wait to get rid of MQ
They would send them 150 minutes and it would take them 4 days to return it and 4 people to do it. We do 600 minutes a day and return in 24 hours. Quality was bad and customer service was terrible. FYI.
You have to wait one YEAR for PTO? Is that right??
nm
Right, you have to wait a year to get PTO.
I think anyone anywhere can take vacation without pay.  Talk about dumb!  Trust me, getting vacation pay but not being able to use it for a year, is not a good thing.  I love it!!
Re: Wait period for insurance

I just wanted to clarify this and ensure that everyone has the correct information.  The wait period for our insurance is 120 days.  We review your status at 90 days to ensure that you are producing at full-time capacity and then if you are, you are sent the benefits info to sign up for whatever you're interested in.  The benefits will start 30 days after that so it equates to 120 days.

I think they are great. Been here over a year and couldn't be
happier.
There did last year for 600 lpd minimum. I couldn't take it because of

Can you tell me how long you have to wait before you qualify for insurance?
Thanks, and can I ask how many lines you do weekly (average) on their accounts? I noticed it has varied for me among diffent companies.
Transtech....how long of a wait for insurance?

Transcend...how long of a wait for insurance?

You couldn't have said it better. That is exactly how I feel and have for the past year. (nm)

You have to wait 90 days to quality for insurance and the other benefits. sm

There are 3 different plans for coverage -- basic, choice, and ultimate, I think -- and you choose which one is right for you. I do not have the paperwork handy, but it seems like good coverage at a reasonable price (single coverage, don't really remember about family), and you can also opt for dental and vision insurance.  You are right, though, the premium is deducted every 2 weeks.

I would wait it out because it is slow this time of year anways...
then after the holidays, if no better, time to start looking...good luck and hang in there!!!
I also got put on 2 atrocious ESL accts with them last year. Couldn't make any lines. These dudes

A year without insurance????....
That may be, however, I know I have seen MT companies advertise that their benefits start from day 1.....I just cannot remember who they were:) In this day and age, I would not consider going without insurance for 90 days, let alone a year! Your situation was probably different, but that's where I would be in my current situation.
We have insurance through my husband's company and this year

our premium was only raised $3.00 and our benefits were improved.

If you have pre-existing conditions you don't have lots of options, but there are lots of other options available otherwise.

Anyone know whether Transcend is keeping the same insurance this year or changing?
thanks
i wouldn't sign it, but cross that out and sign
the rest
I used to have a QA guy that couldn't transcribe, couldn't fill in a blank,

but was anal retentive when it came to punctuation.  You would have a report with 10 blanks in it because of poor sound quality, and he wouldn't fill in one blank, but he had put commas all throughout your report, or taken apostrophes out, etc. and he wasn't correct in his punctuation a lot of the time.   Several of the MTs complained about him and asked to not have him do their QA, so he was demoted from QA to an MT.  Well, as I said earlier, he couldn't fill in a blank.  I saw a couple of his reports and there was blank after blank in reports that I had no trouble with at all.  He also didn't proof his reports because he would have inapproriate/incorrect expansions in them.  Not sure if he left on his own, or didn't really have a choice.  Anyway, talk to your supervisor.  Maybe this person is just on a power trip, knows you are new and wants to train you to do it her way, even if your way isn't incorrect.  I think punctuation is a valid issue, but if it doesn't change the integrity of the report and there are no other errors it shouldn't be flagged by QA.    You could also take into account her corrections and maybe try to use a few more commas, etc. and that might help.

Oh, I couldn't understand them. I didn't try them all, but the first couple, I couldn't und

my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)

two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year.  Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea.  I'm pretty motivated.  (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes  I'd say 40-50/week.  I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so.  Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.

that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.

I'm pretty motivated.

401k funds are protected by govt insurance similar to the insurance
that banks have (FDIC). It is safe even if the company goes under.
The insurance cost is double for Transcend but insurance probably doesn't factor in for her.
I have heard more good things about Axolotl than Transcend, although it seems Axolotl may be less flexible with your schedule and someone told me that QA was pretty strict, which should not matter either if you have worked for a hospital and know what your QA score is.
The insurance plan in my opinion is excellent insurance. I am not sure if it will change when it'
time to renew or not. I really hope not but I know that a lot of companies change every year in an effort to keep costs down because most insurance companies start raising rates after you have been with them a year. The insurance is Great West and they also have excellent dental and vision plans. I believe the cost is less than $70 a pay period for the employee.
Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

Insurance sucks compared to my old insurance... sm
The insurance seems like they don't want to cover anything, even simple prescriptions I used to pay 4 or 10 dollars on I now pay 20 to 43 dollars.  I like the company/people so far, just don't like the insurance.
It's a sign
hmmm, the woman at this company was so nasty, I told her, Why don't you hop on your broom and fly off into the sunset before someone drops a house on you.

Would seem she either flew or was flattened doesn't it?

They are poison. Run while you can.
How do I sign on?!!
How do I find this fantastic Deb?! I went to school for MT, found work which only lasted one year and then the company folded. I am having no luck finding anyone who'll take me on with just one year's experience. Deb sounds like just the perfect kind of person to work for. Is she hiring? Thanks for all the help, everyone!

exactly what I thought - the person cannot be a MT.  Management must not have enough work to keep them busy.
Is this a BAD sign?

For the past couple weeks we haven't been able to use our health insurance and my company says they will reimburse.  And then got email we had coverage until May 26 and then will get reviewed and be put back in the Blue Shield pool...this makes no sense.  Does this happen very often?  Should I be looking?

most def a BAD sign

Gurl, that is the sound of one duck quacking.  Vamamos, now.  Do not pass gonad. Proceed directly to the lighted exit sign over the door.  Insurance first, payroll next.  Unhuh.  Go.

Is this a bad sign?
Now I am getting nervous...maybe I should just stick with my current company? I really couldn't seem to find much info on them, and what I did find was over a year old. I just want to know if they are good to work for!
DO NOT SIGN
They have no right to ask you to give up your livelihood unless they are offering a severance to cover that time. My BF was offered a package from ATT and had him sign but gave him payroll for that time in one lump sum. Consult more attorneys. This is your livelihood - how are you to survive.
You think that is bad, I tried to sign on to my
account this morning and got invalid #.  I tried again and got invalid # again.  At this point I'm starting to freak, thinking they locked me out of the system.  I tried one more time and entered my number more slowly and got in.  I guess I'm as fast on the number pad as I am on the keyboard and it wasn't recognizing each number - LOL.
I would say don't sign with them
I am waiting for work right now.
So, do you think this is a sign

that JLG is going out of business or just getting rid of the SR side of it?  Hopefully for the MTs there, it just means more straight transcription for them.  If that is the case, I don't understand why some SR editors wouldn't be offered an MT position.

Any other JLG SR editors out there get the axe or an offer to switch to MT?

Even if you sign up for M-F 8am-4am
...shift or something like that, you will always get suckered in to working extra hours. just the life of an MT. however from experience, being helpful and wanting to please everyone by volunteering to work extra in the beginning often leads to them EXPECTING you to work extra and taking advantage of you. Stand your ground from the start if you don't want to work 24/7. I did at first and before you know it I'm expected to bend to a cardiologists' whim 24/7. Only after I threatened to quit did they take me seriously.
ME too! But sign us up where?nm

Has your worked picked up any? Has anyone else's?

I loved #4 and #8. Where do I sign up?

I think that's because you don't have to pay the Indians to sign on - sm
and yes, I am being sarcastic!! :)
Was going to sign with them, but am leery
That makes me nervous, having to wait for a paper check. Don't like that scenario. Other than that, contract didn't look too bad. Low pay for IC, but not intolerable.
SIGN-ON BONUSES
Not all companies that offer a sign-on bonus are bad news. Typically a company will offer a sign-on bonus if they are looking to fill positions quickly. A lot of times, this is interlinked with a new client/account go-live. The company wants to make sure they have enough MTs for the go-live. A sign-on bonus also draws more MTs to apply.
there are too many who don't make you sign.
I have 3 jobs and need them to feed my family. That's life. Don't do it.
sign-on bonus
I received my sign-on bonus for Precyse and also for Diskriter. No problemo. BTW, Diskriter seems to get a lot of flack around here, but I really love it. Very nice people, good platform, fair line counting, QA helpful and not stifling. OT frequently if you want it, but not all the time. I'm made to feel like a valued team member. :)
No employment unless you sign
The agreement states that the employee understands that he/she will no longer be employed unless he/she signs. (I found out that such coercion in order to save your job can be illegal.)
Sign it, take the money and get a new
They are putting you out of a job. It's not like you quit, so they have no right to request you to not get another MT job for 12 months. That is totally ridiculous! And really, are they going to follow you around and see what you do for the next 12 months? It's none of their business. I would just sign it, take the money and go about your business.
