This is sad to see about MDI but actually I'm glad I'm not crazy like they made me feel (sm)
look what they're doing to everybody? It's a shame to see such a good company go down in flames but I saw it coming and predicted it too when they brought all those Medquist castoffs in...they let the snakes in the door. when you bring in Medquist people, with Medquist mentality of use and abuse, what do you think is going to happen to a company? Become like Medquist perhaps? There was a day when you could not find a person who had a bad thing to say about this company and they honestly felt that way but now look at it? People speak the truth and though it is sad and people are afraid to speak out I for one feel relieved like I said that I didn't just imagine all of this and that I wasn't the only one who just couldn't figure out to make it work anymore. It's validating.
That really made me feel better
Not! Who says executives are smart? It seems like they are paying more to have things done twice versus paying once to have things done the proper way.
She never made that much, and she WANTS you to feel inferior.
.
Good responses...
The reason they get such rave responses is because they are great to work for, everything you read on here is true. They go above and beyond for their MTs. Sure, you might make a few cents more somewhere else but you won't get the same kind of personal attention you get from the staff at TT.
All of these posts have made me feel like I'm stepping in the right direction!
I've never seen this many positive posts about a company on here! I'm so glad that I decided to contact them and now have an interview!
Thanks for the responses. Good idea!! nm

What a hateful post. Hope your rant made you feel better. nm

Hopefully, this will make you feel better. SM
I have been an IC for years. Not making a bad line rate, but not great. Yes, I have a more flexible schedule than an employee, but still have 24 hour TAT. Here's what stinks - I can't even take a long weekend off during the summer (either Friday or Monday) without my paycheck taking a hit. So, in my case, having a holiday off without pay is the norm for me. Employee vs. IC - both have their pros and cons.
It did make me feel better, thank you.
better, and would help our industry - and I use that word lightly, is if some MTs would chin up, step to the plate, and stop applying over and over and over to deplorable companies and keeping these MTSOs rich and able to continue their less than stellar business ethics. You gotta be kidding me! Its the posters on here, who will post right at the end of an page-long thread full of nothing but valid negative issues with the same MTSOs over and over and over - no work, nasty management, nasty QA, no communication, no paychecks, no work, no work, schedule demands when IC status, no work, no work, lying recruiters, no pay, no pay, NO PAY? No work. Then some MT pops in the thread, or pulls it to the top, and says, well other than the few negatives mentioned of late, what do ya think??? Should I? I just don't know what to think, yada, yada. That's the stupidity that drives me crazy. It wastes this whole board, when it could be a valid source of info for MTs on the job hunt. And why should any of us bother a second of our time giving objective reviews of a company, providing full details of our experience, good or bad, only to so obviously be ignored by these types of posts? That's why so many MTs don't even waste their time anymore giving reviews. Oh, yeah, other than the fact that obviously currently you can't get a timely paycheck, such-and-such company must be GREAT. Sure, go for it. Its stuff like this that make this whole forum lack credibility or professionalism, and lets these stupid MTSOs continue to play their tricks and lie to all of us MTs. You don't even see how this hurts us. If a company didn't pay MTs on time, shame on them. NO excuse. And there were a boat load of other JLG issues that were shared, so not a single thing here, and then its OK for MTs to now APPLY to fill the slots of those who probably just left because of poor conditions? This is what is perpetuating this cycle of third-world treatment of MTs. But, yeah, you're right, its me.
no one can make you feel sm
worthless if you don't allow them to. As far as isolation, did you not choose to work at home?

MQ screwed their employees by manipulating the lines SEVERAL years ago. Same people working several years ago are still complaining today. Get out and find another job.

I am an MT just like you and the rest and have been for years. Again the whining and complaining does not change a doggone thing. It is what it is.

The profession has gone to he!! in a handbasket literally but it didnt happen overnight.

Sorry but I don't get the victim mentality. Maybe we are victims in the sense that our work has gone over to India or wherever but so have a lot of other jobs in this country not only MTs. It is a crime that it has happened this way. But whining and complaining about hours and dictators, weekends and holidays is going to do no good. That is part of the job and always has been. If you are fortunate enough to find a decent MT job you better be prepared to work weekends and holidays etc or you will be passed over for someone else.

Plain and simple, call it what you want, say I am screaming and have a bad attitude. I don't care. You cannot change the profession from what it is. My opinion is that all the whining done by MTs about the hours, the days, etc. etc has helped outsource our jobs to India.

I know many many experienced MTs who still have good jobs with companies and are not going through all this . They are also not whining and complaining either.
I WISH I made $11.75/hour! Used to make more
This business makes no sense at all.
Just trying to make you feel a little more loved. LOL
:)
Geez...how did that make you feel?
I haven't had a company not let me work out my two weeks yet. I think I'd be irritated if I got a response like that!
I just started with them also...trying to make sure I made the right decision...nm
nm
Everyone has different experiences there. I like it and never ever made 3 cpl on editing. I make
a lot more than that and started at more than that. They treat their MTs fairly.  I have worked there over 2 years and won't be leaving. I make a lot of money plus have decent benefits. They have my vote
I make twice what I made working at a hospital.
And I even work for MedQuist, no less!
It is only right that a higher level MT should make more but I feel I can tell anyone I want
:+
I hope that's true, might make me feel a little better...
Even if they are being charged less, the rates companies are paying MTs to do VR is grossly unfair. There is no way it takes half the time to do VR as compared to regular. You still have to listen to the whole dictation. Maybe 65-70% would be fair, not 50%.
Why should I go back to making 9 cpl when I make 11 cpl now?? I made 8 cpl over 12 years ago.
nm
I "only" make $1.15 per report and have made over $62,000 this year so far. I only work 8 hou
5 days a week and pick up one 4-hour weekend shift a month. It depends on the account, your company, the report length, your expanders, normals, etc. I made $1.43 with Edix before I switched and even though I took a per report loss, I make more money in the past 2 years than ever with Edix. I rarely run out of work, which is a HUGE factor. I know that the company I work for is both praised and condemned on this board, but I am happy at KS.
I guess what you make at Transcend is based on what you made when you came on board, 8 cpl here. sm

I guess since the last 2 companies purchased made good cpl Transcend is willing to pay them what they made, really not fair for others only making 8 cpl, but I guess they gotta cut corners somewhere in order to keep the new Transcenders happy.  I think you all are getting the best deal they have to offer.

Dont they make you feel like a child with the threatening emails?
,
Well, I fall above the average I guess. Would rather not post as not to make others feel bad or thin
x
You made a very good point.

As patients, we need to be more proactive with our medical records by asking to inspect them every now and then.  I have a close friend who was an independent contractor that tried to get health insurance on her own and was denied by several different companies.  She finally found out that there was a diagnosis of cancer made in one of her medical records that was made in error.  She finally found out that her doctor never proofread his reports and it was transcribed on one of documents, but she had to jump through hoops by providing all sorts of documentation to prove she didn't have cancer.  It took investigation by the insurance companies to bring this mistake to light, but just imagine the mistakes that are not caught because of our medical records not being regularly examined.  I think we, as PAYING clients of these physicians, should start demanding more accountability and accuracy in our records.

From the point I found out about my friend's problem I've been asking to see my medical records at least twice a year.  My family does the same.  Maybe it's time we start spreading the word.

I made that move and it was good for me.
And because I was extremely fortunate, I was able to walk away from MQ with no other job at all. I had the entire summer of 2006 to myself with no job demands, and I needed it! After a little re-charging time, I went into TT with both feet, and I love it. There is none of the nonsense that drove me away from MQ after 1/1/06.
You made a good decision to go with KS
I find them to be a very honest company, and hard to find one of those these days. And... by the way I am not a recruiter, or manager or company official, just an MT.
I don't consider $1.25 a report good pay, I made that
in 1985. Now I get $2.25 per report, some count as double, i.e. CT of the abdomen and pelvis, I was left MQ at $1.90 per report a year and a half ago. I have a quota to meet, but am not chained to my PC, can spread it out anyway I want. I'm glad you are doing well, but $1.25 per report is just to cheap.
Me 3, made good money with less cpl than now. nm
xxxxx
You made a good choice!

Is there good money to be made at Transtech? nm
nm
THANK YOU!! good to know so we can all be made aware to stay away! nm
;
You said it: "They made good money."
I don't mind working hard if I am getting paid accordingly. Doctors and nurses make good money to work weekends. My sister even gets a very nice shift differential for working evenings, nights, and weekends. I get none of that. I get the same 7 cpl regardles of when I work. Hardly seems worth the $12-13 an hour I make to give up the precious little time on the weekends I get to spend with my family. Guess each just has their own priorities in life and mine is not work.
good grief, you made your point. sm
It seems to me 12-13 is better than minimum wage. Find a new company that pays more than 7 cpl OR as they tell us type more per hour (which is impossible most of the time I know). My point is, this profession is the way it is, it isn't going to change so you live with it, work around it or get into a new profession.
Good grief? I made 2 posts.
Sorry that it bugs you that someone may have a differing opinion. That does tend to happen on forums though. Funny that you don't say good grief to others that have posted multiple times to this thread. Just to me. I thought the point of a forum was to carry on conversation, but guess I am just allowed 1 post per thread. Got it.

While $12-13 is better than minimum wage, it is not enough to justify giving up my weekends and holidays for. Guess you didn't really get my point after all.

I have been looking for a new job, by the way. The fact is that all I am getting are offers of 7 cpl, even from companies that require evenings and weekends. As I said, I don't mind working if I am paid accordingly, but I am not going to take a job at 7 cpl that requires me to give up my life. My time is worth more than that to me.
I feel the same way and it's good to hear
To the original poster...It is frustrating at times, I must admit. But life is full of ups and downs. I like to compare it to a NASDAQ company - you know, when they post the company's 1st quarter earnings, etc. Even multi-billion dollar companies have ups and downs, so they take advantage of the ups and tighten their belts during the down times. That's the nature of working in this profession.
I know how you feel. Been there/done that. Good luck!
`
I feel your pain, truly. Good luck to you. nm

Yeah it sure does feel good to vent here tho
..
I feel if it sounds too good to be true,
there usually is a catch..susan
You should feel great now! All good news.
It's a relief for all of us Ex-Qers who are used to being abused.
What a good post MTIM - Feel your pain

We all feel like that from time to time, but it doesn't matter whether you are an MT or working in any other profession - some days a job is just a job.  You sound like you work for a company like I did.  Too much management getting in the way.  That said, look at it this way.  At one point in my career I made 0.075 cpl for many years (raises unheard of).  I took that rate and turned it into $40,000 a year because I typed by fingers to the bone.  Minimum line count of 1,200 was not enough for me, but some people will only type the minimum and then quit. This is where their problem is.  It's called ambition.  Of course the pay will be low if you quit at 1,200 lines.  Being an MT for 5-10-15 years you certainly should be typing more than that.  If you are not, and it is not YOUR fault, but because of company dynamics, it is time to find a company and account that helps you reach your full potential.  Please do not cheat yourself.  The first thing I would do is not answer phone calls or e mail during your shift (do this before or after) because you are going to have enough to deal with to slow you down while you are working as you described.

I do not move from company to company, never have, but I certainly would if I felt like I could do better than what is being offered to me, for whatever reason.  Again, no one is going to take care of you - except you, so don't cheat yourself.  Since you already have a job - go with the flow until you find what is absolutely perfect for you and you can make lots of $$ no matter what the rate ( to a degree of course).  It would be nice if we could all make 11 cpl or better.  I never have.  I have found a company and account that is perfect for me, making good money and love the work.  The kicker is, I would have taken that job for 7 cpl and because I am very good in that specialty - I could still make a decent living with it.  Don't go jumping at the first thing offered to you.  Think about it - and yourself.  What is it that you do best as an MT.  That's what you look for.  Being at this for 15 years, maybe you should just throw in the towel where you are but I think you do have the potential for something else.  Go for it - and good luck to you.

You made a good choice. The staff is great, program simple. Welcome! nm

Does your company start with a T... If so, I feel your pain and it does no good to complain. No one
cares. Tell me how you go from over 200 jobs in a queue to nothing in a few hours. Hmmmm. I smell offsourcing. Not happy. I just got a second job and thank goodness. It will save me when there is no work which is too often for my liking.
My account is so good, I feel as if I'm cherry-picking with every report....
Sorry, but I actually started today and my account is FABULOUS. Every report I've had today has been so easy to edit, I feel like I'm cherry picking, although this account obviously just has fabulous dictators as they are randomly falling into my cue.

I knew someone would try to rain on my TT parade.

Glad I've got a HUGE umbrella :-)
Thanks for the info! Do you *feel* like you make more with a gross line v. character line? (nm)

God forbid the poor poster made a mistake by posting on the wrong board!! Good grief!
nm
Thanks for the advice. The idea of clinic work sounds good, but I do feel comfortable with acute ...
care. I have a lot of experience with operative notes, DS, consults, radiology etc.. but I am not that thrilled with ESLs. It is just harder to make money on them. I think I will look into clinic work. It was only the lack of work that was bothering me about these companies and mismanaging the accounts they did have, broken promises, and just getting the runaround.. over everything from benefits to work.
Any good MT knows that what you make
per line is just one part of the equation. Do you have enough work? How are your lines counted? Bottom line is how much you make per hour. They have a tiered pay plan if you are FT. They have line rate incentives for both quantity and shift as well as CMT incentives. They will pay for your CMT if you pass the test and contribute yearly to your CECs I believe up to $150 a year. That is reason in itself to at least think about it.
Not 2 good - I make 25 cpl. nm
Gotcha!
Good ones make way more than the best MTs, too!
xx
A good MT can make more than that by
