This child is 10 years old - this is national news, not a hoax of any kind. This child was healthy six months ago and now has very limited time to live.  Her father is imprisoned and her dying wish is to spend more time with him - which is being denied.  Please go to the above website and sign the petition asking the Nebraska prison system to honor her request.

My father took his dog to the veterinarian 1 time and they wanted to put the dog down
because he had distemper. Seeing the dog over in the corner looking fine, I asked my father what did he do? He said "I changed doctors." Maybe that is something worth checking out.
My father one time decided this was the punishment for my son
Had him write 200 times I must not ...... My father laughed as he told me when my son got through he said, "Now paw-paw can I do it again?" What works for 1 does not necessarily work for another.
my father was "written out" of the will a long time sm
ago due to issues between him and grandmother. My sister and I are the only grandchildren and the nephew and great-nephew are the only heirs. My grandmother had a will but I am afraid the nephew and attorney (who is the power of attorney) conspired to get her to change her will towards the end of things.
You are saying imprisoned in a room without all their gadgets imprisonment?
Where in the world have you been? I put a grandchild (who lived with us for about 2-3 years) in a room completely by himself, no books, no television, no writing paper and it worked wonders for him. He was a very outdoorsy type person, it was summer, all the kids playing ball, riding bikes and it hurt him to the core. I did not resort to anything except just nothing. You gotta be outta your mind if you call that imprisonment. I call it an excellent way to solve a problem.
Don't count on getting it back. Sad, but it happens all they time. Look out for the girl sm

wearing that distinctive jacket.  And inform you child to  bring her stuff home with her.  She learns a valuable lesson here.

That's about the time I would have gotten dressed, called up a girl friend - sm
And gone to a movie or something. I would also make dern sure that I got home at least an hour AFTER he gets home. Let him wonder.
Students Denied Hot Lunch Until Money Paid

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Forget pizza, hamburgers and macaroni and cheese.

Dozens of students at Steamboat Springs schools are getting peanuts, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches — or nothing — for lunch this week after the district cut off those with unpaid balances on their school lunch accounts.

Nutritional Services director Max Huppert says students owing $6 or more were not allowed to use the district's automated payment system to buy hot lunches when they returned to school Monday. The move affected about 25 elementary students and an unknown number of middle school students.

The affected elementary school students were given snack food instead, but the others received nothing.

Huppert says about half of the nearly $10,000 owed to the district has since been paid.

A Very Costly Kiss: Senior Denied Diploma

For teens, there is no greater joy than graduating high school. Shaking off the shackles of education and claiming that hard-fought diploma is truly an epic day. Unfortunately, for several students at Bonny Eagle High School in Maine, their natural exuberance has led to some surprisingly serious problems.

On Friday night, when the senior class was waiting to graduate, excitement began to grow. Students bounced a large inflatable rubber duck. The noise level rose. And then came "the kiss." When called, one student walked on stage to receive his diploma and blew a kiss to his family. The school administrator, clearly not the sentimental sort, sent the student back to his seat ... sans diploma.

The seemingly harsh punishment has sent the Web all aflutter. Searches on "student denied diploma" and "bonny eagle high school" are both through the roof. Additionally, blogs and news papers are chiming in with opinions on whether or not the administration overreacted. The student's mother has given interviews and is quite upset at her son's treatment. According to an article from Fox News the outraged mother said, "A bow, a kiss to your mom is not misbehavior."

But the administrators feel they were just enforcing the rules that students agreed to. At a meeting following the debacle, school superintendent Suzanne Lukas said that "if a student doesn't adhere to the expectations, then the consequences are clearly spelled out."

This isn't the first time that rambunctious (dare we say "fun"?) behavior affected a graduation ceremony at Bonny Eagle. "Four years ago we had some issues with silly string and beach balls," said Lukas.

What if he's dying right now?

Something more TERRIBLE is happening tonight.  That poor dog may be bleeding to death internally or already dead and because you're a coward to tell them or even make an anonymous phone call and you ASSUME the police wouldn't help.  They absolutely WOUD go to the address and tell them if you made an anonymous call, if you don't have the nerve to face up to it.  This is 2007.  People have a clue about animals.  Well, most of us do....

It does not matter people whose fault it was to that dog.   It does not help him to exchange blame.  If you have to play those human games, then do it later, after he's helped.   If he doesn't have tire marks on him, how are the owners even supposed to know if he's hurt?  It's not like they can talk, you know.

This make me sick.  I work rescue.  I see and hear worse every day, but it just eats at my soul to know somebody is sitting there "feeling horrible" and "doing nothing" to help God's creature.

dying
I think it is a normal phase kids go through.  My 5-year-old started talking about death last year.  When I watch medical shows on TV she is very interested (which is great), but it also scares her.  She is afraid of heart disease now because of a show I was watching.  I try to explain it to her also, but she is still stuck on the whole dying/death issue.  I really don't know what to say, other than keep talking about it and hopefully he will become more comfortable with it.
what do you say to someone who is dying

A life long family friend has cancer and chose not to take treatment.  She is in her upper 80s.  She has other ailments and was once very active but now all she can do is stay in bed and hurt which is why she chose to let nature take its course.  The doctors only gave her 3 weeks to live.  She lives with her son, he never married and is in denial.

This woman lived next door to my grandparents and I used to love to go over there when I was little.  She had a little dog that I could play with.  She had a piano that she would let me play on.  She had tons of jewelry and I loved to go over there and play dress up.  She has been good to my mom.  Mom lost her house and she gave mom a place to live which is a trailer house next door.  To me that was a big thing as she always kept her stuff neat and nice and picture perfect and mom, Gosh I love her, is a slob.

I am thankful for this woman and she will hold a very special place in my heart but I really don't know what to say.  I don't want to be unrealistic but I  don't think that talking like she is dying would be right either.  I don't know what to say if that topic gets brought up.

I wish I just new someone who sewed :)) Seems like a dying art
and what a shame! I don't know how many times I have said in the last 20 years... 'if only I knew someone who could sew!'  I can do buttons and great at hemming tape and have sewn in the past but way too frustrating for me!!  Good for you!!
My grandmother is dying also
She and I are not exactly close, we live across the country from each other and always have. She was never very nice to my mother so I had a hard time getting close to her. My brother and I are the only family she has left and of the 2 or us I am the only one that keeps in constant contact with her.

When I do talk to her I reminisce. Not about our times together but about when she was younger. She loves to talk about herself.

If this woman feels like talking do that. Or maybe she just feels like listening and you could tell her how much you enjoyed playing her piano and playing with her jewelry. Just let her know she made a difference in your life. You don't have to outright talk about missing her, but I know she will get the message and I am sure it will bring her some comfort.
Thanks for the posts on my furkid dying
I posted on the 11th and my little girl, oh she went by several names, Kitty-Kitty, baby, sweet lamb and my little girl, but actually her name was Emerald, died at my home the next day, Saturday 1/12/2008. She was born at my home 18 years ago and how I loved her. She had some ID keys that she wore on a collar and everytime I would go to the powder room or the kitchen, she would always come in, when I returned home here she came with the little keys sounding off. Now the quiet is almost deafening in my home. I have 2 other furkids (cats, both males) my husband gave to me, knowing Kitty-Kitty was older and when she died the others would sorta soften the blow. Nah, I love them but she was my baby. My daughter claimed her but "let" me have Emerald when daughter married because she knew my heart would break if she moved her. I went to the vet the day before Emerald died and asked if I thought she was in pain, was there anything I could give her - he told me a baby aspirin every 3 days and also if she were not sleeping, could give children's benadryl to help her rest. I never felt she was in pain and I held her Saturday morning for about 4 1/2 hrs telling her I loved her and she could go, knew she was sick and had been for several weeks really bad. I made her comfortable, covering her with a light blanket on a pillow and she died later on that afternoon. I dug a grave for her in my yard so she would never have to really leave her home. I will always treasure her love and the joy she gave us. What a wonderful girl and she was just my little girl.
my freezer/fridge is dying

Like an idio t, i thought it was my imagination that stuff wasn't getting cold enough or frozen hard enough in my fridge/freezer so i haven't said anything to the manager of our townhous complex.  around Wedesday I noticed my cool whip wasn't frozen. Now my "frozen" fish sticks are softer and easy to break.  Are they safe to eat? what happens if a "keep frozen" food gets thawed out? Is it still safe to eat?? The office isn't open until Monday and he probably won't get here until Monday afternoon at the earliest so what do I do with all my food in the meantime??

I have to disagree. Marriage is not a dying
tradition.  My parents just celebrated their 63rd anniversary.  My husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary this past June, so no, marriage is not a dying tradition.
I'm more afraid of dying before I have a CHANCE to get old. nm

Sometimes, though, it helps the person dying to know sm
you have accepted it and they can go on. My dad held on until my mom said I'll be okay without you, I know you cannot go on any longer. He died within the next few hours of my mom saying that to him. We, too were in denial, and I believe that is why he hung on so long. Tell her what an impact she had on your life and how much she has meant to you and you will love her forever. Is she right with Christ? Does she believe she is going to heaven? In my grief class after my dad died, sometimes you don't have to say anything, just a "meeting of the hearts." Just go over there and see her and let whatever happens happens. Let your heart lead you.
It's the images of dying people that get to me.. you must be out of the loop

I hear you- I had a friend dying of AIDS
that I lived with and helped take care of so he could die at home. There were times it was so stressful and uncertain that I would sometimes wish he would just die already. I felt like the worst person in the world for feeling that way but now I realize I am only human and I did the best I could.
I have a friend who called me to say her 34 year old son dying
this past week. I was shocked but this is a kid who has never hardly worked, looked to his mother for most things- she is on retirement and sucks the life from her. He is in ICU with cirrhosis, liver and kidney failure, started on dialysis yesterday. He has sat at home, not working, something wrong with all the jobs, but now he did have a girlfriend who worked part-time. My friend tells me he sat on the couch just drinking until he could not get up but continued just drinking, not eating, everything tasted like cardboard, he said. Well you know who was taking him the beer, right? The mother of course. Last Thursday my size 4 girlfriend had to carry her son (who was 60 something lbs) out to her car and rushed him to hospital, he stopped breathing, been on vent since. This is a mother who does the above, gives all she can and runs herself out to help her boys (34 and 34) but she thinks she helps. She has almost helped him into his grave - oh he is still very, very ill and may not make it. BTW, the girlfriend is now at the hospital begging for gas money to go back and forth to see the boyfriend and yet the mother has no real income of her own. She feels like she is an excellent mother also. Really sad to see this and so irritating at the same time as she really does not get it, the damage she is doing (has done).
My heart is heavy -I think my older cat is dying
It is hard to type or even see when your eyes are brimming with tears. I have had this girl since her mother first showed up at my door pregnant with her about 17 years ago. She is a purr girl and she has been sick, had a stroke which she recovered from but now a couple of months later feel like she is living on borrowed time. Not in pain but seems to be sorta stuporous, will respond when I call her name by looking at me. I have hand fed her water (ice water which she likes) and also she took very little in in the way of food. I called my daughter to see if she wanted to come by tonight after she gets off from work and she said absolutely. I hated to tell her at work but so afraid this ole girl is not going to make it much longer. She has trouble getting around so I am her legs now. If she needs to go to the bathroom, I will take her there also. I have her laying on 1 of my fav sweaters now in my work room, held her lots last night and today also. My heart hurts.
My oldest furgirl is dying and I am crying
I have just called the veterinarian's office to see if there was anything they could give me to ease her pain, should she be in any which I do not think is the case. I have had her since she was born at my home so it is almost unbearable today. The vet had told me about a week or so ago that her organs were probably failing due to some lab tests she had. I gave her some water with a syringe and even tried feeding her some this morning as I do not want her to be hungry nor thirsty. She is laying on a blanket and I have a cover on her. Besides my having her put down which is really hurting my heart- she has been with me all these years- is there anything I can give her so she is not having a painful death and I just don’t know about it. Thanks everyone.
dying tradition would refer to the new generation

Thanks. I think mine is slowly dying. It sometimes gets a reddish tint all over it and I think the
refresh or whatever it does through the different colors isnt working right.  I do shut it off when I am not working but I am usually working except at night.  I paid a decent amount for this so thought I would get at least 3 years out of it.
Guess talking with dying aunt over daughter just shouldn’t happen
Yes I did say disconnect (have thought about that for some time just due to the excessive amount spent on land phone though and daughter suggested disconnecting also to save $$$) the fuss was the fact about others assumming something. I took what I considered to be the more important of the 2 calls- basically I talk with the daughter every week several times and the aunt - well what would most do?

What's your crash sign?

Turns out there might be some connection between your astrological sign and propensity for getting into an accident! Fascinating.

By the way, Leo's rule!!!

TORONTO, Dec 13 (Reuters Life!) - Never mind how careful you are behind the wheel or how long you've been driving, the signs of the zodiac may be bigger factors behind your ability to avoid car crashes -- or why you have too many. According to a study by InsuranceHotline.com, a Web site that quotes drivers on insurance rates, astrological signs are a significant factor in predicting car accidents.

The study, which looked at 100,000 North American drivers' records from the past six years, puts Libras (born September 23-October 22) followed by Aquarians (January 20-February 18) as the worst offenders for tickets and accidents. Leos (July 23-August 22) and then Geminis (May 21-June 20) were found to be the best overall.

"I was absolutely shocked by the results," said Lee Romanov, president of Toronto-based InsuranceHotline.com, who also wrote the book "Car Carma" which touches on the correlation between astrological signs and driving ability while doing the study.

Romanov originally wanted to have some fun by examining astrological signs as a possible cause for the variance between insurance companies quoting high and low rates but didn't expect to find anything interesting.

"Now, changing postal codes is far less significant to me than drivers of certain astrological signs," she told Reuters on Wednesday.

Even age, another variable for determining insurance rates, is less of a consideration to Romanov. The cutoff line for being considered a higher risk driver is 24 years of age; 25-year-olds are considered not-high risk.
"I'd rather get into a car with a 24-year-old Leo than a 25-year-old Aries," Romanov said.

Leos, described along with the study results on InsuranceHotline.com/a10.html, are "generous, and comfortable in sharing the roadway."

Aries, on the other hand, "have a 'me first' childlike nature that drives Aries into trouble."

"I wasn't believing in it before," said Romanov, "but I would think twice before getting into a car with an Aries."

Used to have a PINK PIG sign
with our name on it. Two pink piggies holding our name by our mailbox and someone STOLE IT. Can you imagine. My sister gave it to us as a gift. Had to put it outside to show her how much we loved it. Were not sorry to see it go though.
SIGN THE NO PADDLING....

figures, it would be Texas paddling the children......no offense to our posters from Texas......I just somehow knew upon reading further down the page that it was going to be TEXAS paddling children still in the 21st Century.  Give me a break......

Nobody can whack my kid, except me....*lol*

You sign yourself as friend, ok if so
then you totally respect your friend's wishes. You do not go by unannounced. Has she said she did not want company? You do not intrude, yes that is what it is by just happening to take something by as another post said to get a glimpse. I had a child who had clubbed feet (not Downs at all like the other said might be), did not even notice but my mother brought it up to me and he is now 40ish and fine, just wore the splints. As far as not answering the phone when husband is home, I try not to make appointments to leave when mine is here, I just love spending the time I can with him. I don’t see mine each and every day so nothing wrong with that or the telephone thing. We are all separate individuals. I would guarantee if you showed up at my home uninvited and as a surprise, I would be offended and you would not get in especially after she has said no visitors! Where as you might have wanted company after birthing, your friend has told you. Why would you do anything less than honor her wishes? Be a real friend.
$28 an hour, where do we all sign up? NM

Sign language.
I don't have deaf dogs, although I would in a heartbeat without question. However, I have two dogs and I train them with voice and with hand motions as well. Its amazing how much they knew with hand motions before I even trained them because I make those motions subconsciously when giving them my commands. I did this for their safety in public situations and because one is in search and rescue and its easier and sometimes good to have them not only paying attention to you but also to be able to communicate in silence depending on the situation. it also helps because should someone else try to control your dog, they would have to know the signs, much like teaching a dog commands in another language. Its pretty cool stuff really. They pick up movement far faster and with seemingly greater intelligence than the sound of whatever word you are giving. I am amazed everyday at how intelligent my dogs can be. ;)
Take it as a sign of things to come...
but don't make a big deal out of it with either of them or hold a grudge. He will probably treat your daughter just as badly if/when they are married, but she has to figure that out for herself. If you need something done, just pretend she doesn't have a boyfriend at all, and get things done on your own henceforth...and don't give them POA when you are old!
Got hit from behind at a stop sign
Got out of the car and went back to see that the car that hit me had lo more damage than mine.  Went up to the car and nobody would roll down a window, three guys all on their cellphones (at that time anyway) so I stood there, got out my cellphone and called the police. Tapped on the window then and found out none of them spoke English.  Told them in English not to move.  The police came and went back to them, came to my car and said they were all illegal immigrants, was not their car, driver didn't even have a license and was driving a "friend's car."  AND of course, no insurance.  His pen was flying as he was writing up those tickets in his car and as I pulled out I saw squad cars surrounding the car and I bet INH was on their way too.  Didn't feel one bit bad but sure would have if I had damage to my car.
She needs a doc with a sign over his door that sez -

universal sign
Oh you've read my mind!! Sooo many times I've wished I had a little sign, like a piece of cut poster board taped to a popsicle stick, that I could hold up that says "OMG I'M SO SORRY!!" or "I'M SORRY, MY BAD!" or "I'M SORRY, PLEASE EXCUSE ME!"!!
I made a sign and hung up (sm)
It was just construction paper; one side was red, the other green. The red side had a simple smiley face with closed eyes and a headset on, the word 'STOP' in big letters, and 'mommy's working' below it. The green side had a smiley face with open eyes, no headset, and the word GO, and 'mommy can stop to talk' on it. I put it on a string and hung it on a tack so all I had to do was reach up and flip it back and forth.

I did it as much for me as for them. I was fussing at them sometimes, when they had no way to know if I was merely checking email or working, and I felt bad. So when they see the red sign, they know somebody better be bleeding if they interrupt me! (j/k!) It actually worked pretty well, even before the youngest could read, because he knew which color was "go" and which one was "stop."

We have a bowl in the kitchen for "free snacks" and I try to keep it filled with apples, raisins, bags of goldfish crackers, and the like, and keep juice boxes and popsicles ready to hand in the fridge. I also try to either buy paper cups or make sure the dishes are kept up so they can get water as needed. Most interruptions tended to center around wanting a snack, so it takes a lot of stress of all of us if they know what they can have w/o asking.
Exercise with him or sign him for karate or something like that. Needs to do

Put up a Squirrel Crossing sign?
:op

One way to keep the squirrels from burying their nuts hither and yon is to give them shelled nuts. I notice they will eat those instead of burying them.

Twice a year I announce it's Kamikaze squirrel season. I think it happens once when the babies are new out of the next and they are completely brainless about cars, and the other is when the tree nuts ripen and the squirrels are blind to everything except finding more places to bury their nuts.

If you like chipmunks too, try putting out a feeder for them with rape seeds (white seeds - cannola seeds, I believe). I think chippers are afraid of squirrels, so put it in a different area. Squirrels won't touch the white seeds, so the chippers are safe to eat them.

A local restaurant had on its sign outside
AYCE DailEy specials...it was there for a while, but someone finally got smart and changed it.  This is a pet peeve of mine, too.  It drives my husband crazy at times when I start pointing out all the mistakes I see.  I saw one on some papers from school, but I can't remember what it was...but from SCHOOL...hello???
When the dishwasher sign says dirty
and there is room in it and everyone still stacks their dishes in the sink!!!!
Four-way stop sign - what is the rule? sm
Every day when I take my son to school I have to stop at a 4-way stop....some days when in my opinion it is my turn, someone pulls out in front of me! It drives me crazy!! What is the rule?  I should probably know this but I don't!  Thanks
oops...'ARE' the first sign...n/m

personally I would sign that ban in a heart beat! sm
Having to breathe in someone elses disgusting smoke is sickening. It IS an addiction, as pointed out by someone else, but so is alcohol, also brought up by someone else. and yes, they should be doing more about that, as well. *They* should be doing a lot of things about a lot of things to change the way this world is headed...but then there is the saying *be the change you want to see in this world.*
they have some system now that they can sign up for to track who views sm
their myspace. not sure how it works because i didn't sign up for it, but i see it posted all the time. i view my daughter's friends sites all the time. noone has said anything to me yet about it, but i do communicate with a lot of them on there as they are friends and any friends of my children are friends with me as well. they know i wouldn't going ratting off on them unless it was something majorly in the wrong.
A big sign at a local business that had moved said

Sorry couldn't resist. I'll never be too old to think that sounds wrong
