It is spring, traveling in summer out west, my question is
do you think I will see snow STILL there this summer? I am going to the Rockies, Yellowstone and my departure from Denver and ye gads, tomorrow suppose to be snow. Does Mother Nature know it is spring or not?
The reason is high gas prices.
All that stuff is transported by truck... they run on gas...

Did you check out the profits the oil companies made last quarter?

Has anyone else noticed food prices going SKY HIGH???
Seems like everything is outrageous anymore!!
sorry. forgot to mention Linda Chavez is in refernce to threads about high food prices.
nm
That should have been effect, not affect. Sorry.

Drugs can affect people in different
and unexpected ways. I'm very sorry you and your son are going through this.

I had a very weird reaction to Topamax.

I hope the MD can help him. How scary.
Credit cards with 0 balance can also negatively affect you -
If you have too much credit line available to you and you apply for a mortgage, they can turn you down because they know you can get your hands on that money quickly and therefore put your debt to income ratio way out of whack and jeopardize your ability to pay your bills. That happened to me once many years ago. I had 2 credit cards with large credit lines, but both had 0 balances. The mortgage company made me close them before they would approve my loan.
Wouldn't that affect the brilliance? You're introducing "flaws" (nm)

Will impending writers' strike affect cable channels?

Would filing your taxes late affect your stimulus check?
We filed an extension, and then sent our return out about two weeks late.  We are getting a refund, so it wasn't like we owed the IRS or anything.  It was just a complicated return and we were just procrastinators.
Travel, travel and more travel
years ago took my children on really nice vacations, Mexico, Carribean, Greece and the like- now they are out and gone I travel by myself on tour groups, last year Alaska, this year another fab trip. My hubs and I go to Las Vegas a couple of times a year and then we go visit Mickey Mouse sometimes but I have the traveling bug more than he does.
When you travel...
prefer to stay at a hotel or with friends or relatives?  I personally, as well as my immediate family, prefer to stay in a hotel.  You can just do what you want to do.  I have a relative who insists that she stay at my house and I just can't understand it.  I wonder if I'm strange or if she is strange.

I saw the same thing, on a travel ad
busses?? This is a well known agency.
I'm married, but I travel alone often.
My DH and I have different ideas about what is fun. After a few years of trying to make joint vacations work, trying to compromise, and trying to love what the other one loves, we've decided that separate trips are better for us. Even our honeymoon was a disaster! LOL I'm the outdoors type, and would rather camp and backpack, and he's a serious track and field competitor who thinks that a great vacation is a week of running in competitions. We both like history and museums, so what we do is sprinkle weekend getaways here and there in our lives. But he couldn't do a week in the woods with me, and I can't stand sitting next to the track waiting for him to run.
I've done all sorts of week-long trips by myself, and I highly recommend it. The first time you do it, you might feel a little nervous, but gradually, as you relax and enjoy yourself, your confidence builds up. I happen to travel without groups, but my mom has been widowed since 1983 and has done lots and lots of guided trips around the world. She loves traveling that way. Pays one price and everything is planned. She meets new friends and sees wonderful places.

Get out and see the world! You'll love it! And if anyone wants to share info about Ireland, I'd love to hear it. My son is planning a "tramping" trip to Ireland, backpacking and staying at hostels.
Travel the world
Although, I would have to win the lottery for that! I'd probably take out every loan I could and run up the credit cards. I've been to France and NYC (both of which I absolutely loved!) I would love to see Italy and Greece. If I absolutely could not get $ for that, I would volunteer at animal shelters/rescues and volunteer with kids, maybe with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. I've had some scares with health myself and I have thought about it, unfortunately. I would just try to be as happy as possible! I wish you and your SIL the best.
My daughter and I both travel alone
she likes to go to Cancun (we had traveled there years ago when she was much younger) and I have traveled the past few years (plan to this year also) to places like out west and Alaska. I used to travel in the 80s and 90s all the time, just me and my 2 kids out of the country to the carribean (spelling?), Mexico, even to Greece. I absolutely would never let being afraid keep me from going.
And I don’t think it is dangerous just to travel, sm
If I had waited for a Starbuck I might never had a trip before. Believe it or not, never remember seeing 1 anywhere I traveled. Your response is strange.
Spring
GOOD THOUGHT.....I can't do cold weather......
Hubby is a travel agent...sm
We have been to many all inclusives. For us, we go with a big group of friends every year on vacation, and we will always do AI. The best yet was Barcelo Tropical in Puerto Juarez. It is about 25 minutes away from Playa Del Carmen and 1 hour from Cancun. You never have to leave the resort. The food is EXCELLENT!!!! This place is amazing. Check it out on trip advisor. Lots of places (in Mexico is all I know) are AI and NOT worth it, meaning the food sucks, drinks are watered down, no activities. You have to be careful because you don't want to spend the $$ on an AI and then have to go out to eat.
Definitely NOT work! Be with family, travel if possible. Try
s
Wow!!! that's so disgusting. Makes you not want to travel or eat out ever! (nm)

Same here - retire, hop in an RV, travel the states!
x
Didnt say that! I said if she's uneasy with travel to
the US? Mexico will still be thre (unfortunately), so just wait and go when the the crime rate drops a little bit. We Americans have had great big TARGETS on our backs for a long time now, or havent you noticed? So the statistics might not be on an American tourist's side there right now. And if I'm going to be the victim of a crime, I'd rather it were here than in
Mexico. Sure wouldn't want to end up in one of their jails, or even in one of their hospitals.

I think, though, that the main thing that was meant by the gov't. announcement was that college kids shouldn't be going down there at this particular time, especially the girls. Not a very good place to be naiive and inebriated, even in the best of times.
I do that in the spring. I usually get a tool
and clip the dead parts back and remove them. It just makes them look all fresh and pretty, and then the dead sticks won't tear up the leaves if you get any wind. I am not certain if it is essential, but it improves the look a lot.
I wait until spring, too sm

I figure the dead leaves and stalks offer a little protection from the cold. The bed where I have the hydrangea stayed iced over for more than a week this past winter, and I thought I had lost the hydrangea. But in the spring I could feel that the branches were still supple and smooth at the bottom so we just cleared out the dead leaves, trimmed off the dead tips, and it came back beautifully. It has blossoms all over it that are getting ready to burst into bloom.

We just moved into this house last summer and I planted the hydrangea in a place where I thought it would have enough shade, but we had a bunch of 100+ degree days I was afraid the heat had killed it....until the cold came along and then I thought the same thing about the cold. But it is definitely "the little hydrangea that could"!!

We are getting chickens this spring. .sm
So I have been doing a lot of reading about eggs and chickens. And yes, I have been very bored lately!
Spring Break
Our Spring Break is the week of the 13th. That's one of the weeks I take off from work so we can do things with the kids. Usually we take our vacation then and go away. Luckily it's usually half way decent here so at least the kids can go out and get some fresh air and play with the other kids in the neighborhood. Does your school district have any type of program for the kids during the break? Here there's a camp that the kids can go to at various locations.
Travel Agent... off original topic
Always looking for a new career away from MT...Since your DH is travel agent, would you recommend it? Can you make a good living at it? How to get started? Have thought of this in the past, but never really knew how to go about it. My DH and I love to travel and he will be retired in a few years, so a career change may do us both good. Thanks for any info.

My animals have spring fever
MY 2 cars, one is 13+ and the other is almost 7 are bugging me along with my dog to play, and just pay some attention to them.  It is nice outside and they sure have the spring bug.  Hard to resist them.  Just took the dog for a long run in the park with another neighbor's puppy and though it would calm her down but now, she bring in her stuffed animals and when I ignore her she will throw them at my chair to get my attention.  So I keep taking 5 to 10 minutes to play and now am behind.  Oh well, it only happens a couple of times a year so gotta enjoy it.   But even the 13 year old is sitting on my desk, which she never does, and playing with my papers, pens, knocking things down and then just looking at me, like "Did I do that."   But it is so nice here in Portland today, up to 60 gotta take advantage as will probably rain tomorrow.
I saw my first robin of spring this morning!

I guess spring really is coming, even though we're still under 18" of snow in my neighborhood (yeah, it's shady in here).  I'm about 30 miles north of Albany, NY.  Anybody see a robin farther north?

spring cleaning blinds
I have blinds on my windows that are dusty and yucky.  I'm wondering if anyone has a good way to clean them without taking them down.
if you go to Pismo...go in the spring or fall...
Summer is very very foggy most of the time (I went to college in San Luis Obispo about 15 miles away). Also, if you do go, you MUST go to Del's pizza in Shell Beach for dinner one night. Fairly inexpensive and very good food--not just pizza. In my opinion, it is the best restaraunt in the area.
Talk about some spring cleaning
My house is getting in really good shape. I, like you, also have some medical issues, 1 being fibro. Some days I am so achy I just could cry. Most days my ribs are so sore cannot touch me. Having said that I continue to work because my husband thinks I can do the work IF not working and I just do not care to do it. I do washing and hang that up in the washroom, cleaning person hangs in closet because the poles are really high for this 5Ɗ" person to jump up to. I pay the person myself. My husband does not so what I pay for, work for and really mine to spend as I like.
Sounds good to me. I am going to get in that car and go or go with a travel group. Life is too

short to wait around on other people for whatever.  Probably plenty of people to talk to.  I just got out of the habit of going alone actually and it is time to get back into it.  Sometimes I agree you go with people and spend more time worrying if they like where you wanted to go than doing what you want.  Yep I am going to go for it.

Ask the Department Stores that sell them. They often have travel sizes. NM

yep - Spring ahead, Fall back.....

After an absolutely crummy winter/spring...

Here in the beautiful Pacific NW, I mean really cold, below normal temps, snow very late into the season...

We are expecting some 90+ degree days starting tomorrow into the weekend - and I for one am HAPPY!  My poor halter tops haven't seen daylight for so long I forgot what they look like.

Happy Birthday! I'll be there in the spring. nm

Why does closing a credit card account negatively affect your credit report

Especially when I never use it anyway, and really never wanted it?

With all the bank rearranging going on in the past few months, one of my accounts was tranferred to Bank of America. I was sent new cards and a new agreement, new interest rate etc...

So I called them up and cancelled but before they did, I had to listen to a spiel about how this would negatively affect my credit report.

Huh?? Why is that?

gas prices
$2.21 in south Miss; lowest I've seen was around holidays, down to $2.09.
Prices!!!
Where I live(S. GA) too they get out early like 6 a.m. and are through by dinner or shortly after. Some advertise, some do signs and some both, just according to how hard you are to find. I think it is important to have a price on everything! That's my pet peeve. Some people won't ask if it is not priced. Don't set your prices too high. My mother gets upset that she cannot get her money out of something, especially if she bought it at a sale. I try to tell her some money is better than none. Her regular stuff we do at yard sale, other stuff we do on Ebay. Price big items where you might go down a little bit and smaller stuff where you might be willing to deal. If you will let a dresser go for 50 put 60 on it. The fun in buying is bartering with the seller for a deal. People will buy more if you give them a deal. I say quantity over quality. We go through and put a tag on our stuff the night before. You can find garage sale stickers prepriced at an office store or somewhere like Walmart, priced from .25 to $10 with blank tabs to. You can also get color coded ones and just make a poster board and say Green dot 0.25, Red dot .75, yellow $10, etc. this saves a lot of confusion and is easier to count up. Happy sales. Offer some cookies or cupcakes, keeps kids occupied while moms shop!
