Has anyone used any of the ABCZ files from the following site, in particular this file "ABCZ Typing Assistant Version 2 - TAMed2C " ?http://home.earthlink.net/~agjon/abczTA.htm

I have Instant Test and was wondering if there was a way to create your own ABCZ shortcuts with the "importer"?

Med Assistant
I did the exact opposite.  I went to a community college to become a medical assistant right out of high school.  It took 2 years and I got my Associate of Science Degree.  However, when I went into the workforce I found out that Medical Assistants don't make much more than minimum wage and you are scheduled to work 40 hours a week for full time but end up working about 50-55 hours a week.  I actually got a job in a Family Practice Residency Training Program Clinic but was hired as a medical transcriptionist.  I did the transcription but "helped out" as a medical assistant just so that I could have the best of both worlds.  Good luck.  I think you get paid more for medical billing.
I use Total Assistant Pro
and it works great for me. You can download the trial version and then purchase after 30 days if you like. It does all the work for you. I love it.
(lab assistant for 7 years)
1) white fluid? sounds like a dirty needle to me.

2) a capped needle does not mean it was not used. a needle in a guys jacket does not mean it was not used either.

3) needles go into a sharps container (should have left it in the labcoat for doctor to pick up). i would not have gotten rid of left it in the jacket, in a box/bag, with a note of caution for everyone else until doctor came in.

3) gloves do not prevent a needle stab.

may sound petty to others....but unless you've worked in an area with all kinds of bodily fluids, this is pretty dangerous.
Virtual assistant....sm please
Does anyone know anything about virtual assistants? I met someone and she said that she makes a lot of money doing this. I am looking to supplement my income, because I just can't support myself and my family off 0.08 cpl. I find that I am working way too much just to make ends meet. I have noticed that some virtual assistants are required to do transcription as well as other clerical duties. Can anyone help me with some info on this? Does anyone know how much they make, and if it is worth my time? Thanks.
Medical Assistant
My sister taught medical assisting. It is a 9-month program and when you are done you only make about $8/hr. One of the modules is on MT and quite a few of her students went on to be MTs because they could make more money.

I use Total Assistant and like it. nm
How does one get into being a veterinary assistant/tech? sm
Are there schools to go to or does the vet train you?
I'm a CMA (certified medical assistant)...
and can give injections with a doctor's order, so I assume a CNA would be allowed to also. Not sure about Florida rules though.
Personally, if that personal assistant was-sm
supposed to be you, I would ask for an exorbitant amount of money to do this. such a waste of time!!! Wonder who he is trying to show off for. lol.
I love Total Assistant Pro. sm
I have to work with text boxes on office letterhead and I found Total Assistant counts the text inside the text boxes while others didn't.
I am thinking about being a Medical Assistant

Anyone use ABCZ Expander glossary?  I am a new at home MT and thinking about purchasing it.  Is it helpful and how does it work?

There's a difference between a tech and a veterinary assistant
The main difference is that a tech is certified and has a bachelor's degree or beyond. My son worked as a vet tech while in college because he was a biology major and the vet he worked with found it easy to train him.

A veterinary assistant is more often trained by the vet since it's not so involved. They do vital signs, dispense meds, set up the room for the next patient, etc.

The difference between a vet tech and a veterinary assistant is comparable to the difference between an RN and a nurses' aide.

Either way, it's a very rewarding and gratifying way to make a living.
SmartType vs Smart Type Assistant

Are these one and the same or different?  Does Smart-Type work in Dictaphone Extext platform?

Thanks in advance for any help from anyone.

How about starting a virtual assistant business? (sm)

You could do all kinds of stuff (do a Google search under virtual assistant, there are some webpages that explain stuff).  U-Haul I believe also hires people to do phone customer service from home.  If you look on guru . com they have people who advertise for odd jobs and lots of them are virtual assistant kind of stuff.

Just some ideas.  You could also do daycare, pampered chef, that kind of stuff.  :)

Wanting to leave MT to be a medical assistant
I'm not sure where to post this but here it goes...I have been an MT now for a little over 2 years, I got into it because it was the only legit profession I could do at home with my newborn baby, definitely was not thinking long term career when I went for it, just something to bring in money while I was at home with the baby.

Now my newborn is going into kindergarten and I have been truly unhappy with the company I am with. So now I am looking to work outside the home and really what I would like to do is be a medical assistant (not CNA). Nursing would take so much schooling, time and money that I don't think I could handle going that route but just something in the middle where my transcription skills would come in to play and I would be working with patients, physicians, paper work and working outside of the house (which would be soooooo nice).

My questions is, does anybody know anything about medical assisting that I should know? I understand it is pretty low pay but then again I am not willing to go to school for 4 years so that is to be expected.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks!
ABCZ System
ABCZ System
Try the ABCZ Abbreviation Typing System. The basics of the system are explained in detail at the website link below. You do not have to purchase anything. You can enter all of your own expansions using the system. However, they do have dictionaries for sale that already have thousands of words, phrases, and drug names entered.

Is ABCZ the most productive?

I am just curious.  Do you all productive MTs feel that the abcz method/system is more productive than other systems?  I need to double my production.  I am only getting 800 lines a day and I need 2000, but I cannot work 24 hours a day!

sounds like a job a regular assistant could do rather than higher wages for a QA to do.
no speciality needed to look up addresses.
Google ABCZ method.
Is there a Smartype version of ABCZ?

Those are the two Expanders that I use.

Thanks again

ABCZ expanders for Smartype?
I need the Smartype version of an ABCZ exapander shortcut list.  Anyone know where I can find a list like this that is already in the Smartype format? Thanks
instant text abcz
I am wondering---I am new to Instant Text (although OLD to transcription) and am still teaching myself to utilize instant text....I need to have someone sitting by me showing me, that's how I learn, but really, who cares.  Anyway, is ABCZ a part of Instant Text or is that a separate program?  I truly believe per Miss Indigo in a post below that really it is about working smarter and faster and that is the secret to making the bucks.  Anyway, any info appreciated.  thanks!
instant text abcz
So it is just a way for me to input short cuts?  It's not already in there?
instant text abcz
Ah HA!  now I get it.  thanks so much!
Instant Text and abcz

Happy Holidays everyone!

I was wondering if anyone uses the abcz method with Instant Text and if they were pleased with it.

Does anyone know of a place where it can be downloaded? Or any other suggestions?

People have been helpful and my productivity is inceasing but still need more help!

As always, thanks to all for your willingness to help!!

I just purchased the ABCZ glossaries for IT sm
A few weeks ago, and I am glad I did.  It was definitely worth it.  I like that I didn't have to start over from scratch to start following a system.  I used his files and then used the workshop to convert my enteries over to the ABCZ system.  It has been a big help to me.  With 2 small kids I didn't have the time to try to figure out my own system and start creating the entries, so ABCZ was perfect for me.
Jon's files use a set rule of ABCZ and that works for everybody.
Yeah, I use the ABCZ method too. Didn't know that was what it was called.

You are right, the normal function is when you highlight your text and then higt ctrl+y and a little window pops up asking for a description and an abbreviation.  For the description, I always start with my initials and a dash and then the actual description.  That way all my normals are grouped together in the list and I don't have to sort through everybody elses to get to mine.

Do a Google search for ABCZ for lots of sites.
ABCZ expander shortcuts for Instant Text

I am in search of abcz Expander shortcuts already made into a list or glossary for Instant Text or Smartype.  Does anyone know where to find them?

Yeah, just like ABCZ which I used in auto correct and SmartType, I think.
Bottom line, they increase production, TAT, quality and salary. My company provides us with 2 different ones because they are like a raise in wages. And companies have less employes and taxes, everyone is happy.'

Sorry about confusion and typos, I do not have my glasses on lol (they are in this house somewhere, i just know it!).
ABCZ word/phrase list for Autotext?
Does anyone know where an ABCZ word/phrase list for Autotext (not autocorrect) can be found?
I made up my own abcz list; based on yrs of how it's already stored on Excel.

Typing. This is NOT typing, it is transcribing. There is a BIG difference. sm
Transcription includes typing, but so much more.
Free Ortho sites & ABCZ sites

Every orthopedic test imaginable.

This site has a free ABCZ Expander system.

This site has free software.....There is Stedmans Ortho Word Book program on there amount other great software.

Good luck

OMG...yep! Air typing!!! it's like

don't even think of typing before you get
80+ and still typing.

A great woman crossed into the arm's of God this morning.  She was 80+ years of age and still doing medical transcription up to the day earlier this year when she was diagnosed with cancer and even then she came to the office just until recently.  She loved her job and everyone loved her.  She will be greatly missed in the world of transcription as well as among family and friends.

Until we meet again.

80 and still typing
did she live in NJ?
When I had typing in H.S. (sm)
we had those little pieces of chalky paper that you would have to slip down behind that little "thing" on the platin, and type on that.  Can't even remember what it was called it was so long ago.  Boy, were we thrilled when white out, yellow out, and pink out came along.  LOL
Will you be actually typing them?
If you are then they are ripping you off.  I for one refuse to work unless I get paid for everything I type.  It all adds up over time!
Typing Fun
Hee, I do that all the time.  I like to see how fast I can make them speak and still type along.
anyone know how to go from typing
To search Google for terms without using the painful mouse?  Thanks.
I did something while typing
that changed my settings on my IE. Now I do not have my toolbar at the top and my icons on the bottom do not show for the programs I have up, but this only is when I am on the internet page. When I am using other programs, my icons show at the bottom. Now my favorites show at the side instead of being able to use the pull down through my toolbar. I do not see anything I can use to fix this. Any ideas?! Thanks...
You will still have some typing with VR.
You'll get more done with the VR, but he'll pay you less for the editing. What type of VR is he wanting to use?
I found that I make out better typing than doing VR. I make half.
What are you typing???

Too broad of a question --  is is a seminar, deposition, insurance statement or what.  I have done a lot and for 60 minutes per tape it has averaged out to over $100 at 10 to 11 cpl -- many years ago.  Again depends on what you are typing and the quality of the tape.  Lost my shirt one time on a planning meeting, too hard to understand, etc.   Took many hours to do and not enough pay.   More details and could answer you better.

Are you first typing what you
want to save, as in "-year-old," highlighting that, and then choosing "Autocorrect"? If so, you should have both choices of "plain" and "formatted text" available. If you then choose "formatted text," it should work. I had that same problem a long time ago and it was explained to me this way. Talk about easy! Good luck! :)
$40/1h rec = 4h typing = $10/h pay only? nm
