Is it RAS? of Sacramento?
If so, I was paid $10/hr for RAS typing same as above on Lanier in-house (basement).
Welcome to Sacramento!
First of all, let me say congrats on your impending marriage!

As far as the transcription job market in Sacramento, I couldn't really tell you because I work for an MTSO that is out of state. I know there are some local agencies though. And I do see hospital openings for experienced transcriptionists. I'm pretty new (been doing this about 8 months) so I don't qualify for a lot of those jobs. If you Google Medical Transcription in Sacramento California you might find some leads.

Yes, the cost of living is higher here, and housing prices are inflated, unfortunately. If your fiance has been here for a year already, he can vouch for that.

As far as climate goes, we have very hot summers (although this one seemed to be mild in comparison to past years), with temps averaging in the 90's and heat waves in the 100's. Fall and spring are practically non-existent, in that it goes from warm to very cool quickly in the fall, and warmish to very hot in the spring. Winters aren't too bad. It gets cold, but not as cold as some places. Our rainy season isn't too bad, but there are areas that are prone to flooding (but those are few).

Traffic has been getting progressively worse as growth continues. Downtown Sacramento is where a lot of people work and the commute in and out of downtown can be rough. If you are able to continue to work at home, I would definitely do so!

Please feel free to e-mail me directly if you have more questions. Welcome to California!

Several Kaiser Hospitals in the area that have placed ads from time to time. Also, there is an MTSO in Citrus Heights that I have seen post on MT Jobs a few times, maybe you can do a search. My daughter lives in Rocklin, just outside of Sacramento. I don't know what you will think of the weather compared to Alabama, but compared to the mid east coast, it's really, really nice.

Hi and welcome to California. I live in the S.F. Bay Area, but have lived in Sacramento. You might try Sutter Memorial or Sutter General...both are large, both do a lot of interesting surgeries...heart transplants, etc., and the pay is very good. Sutter seems to want to do a lot for their employees. As to the weather, it gets HOT! At times it has been as high as 110. Winters are wet sometimes, but fairly mild. Sacramento is near Lake Tahoe so skiing is near, and also the Sacramento Delta is a fun place to water ski, swim or fish. Public transit is very good and reliable. People are usually quite friendly and helpful. Anyway, best of luck on your marriage and your move. I wish you all good things!
moving to Sacramento......
I am in Loomis, about 20-30 minutes away. It is hotter than heck here in the summer and they last till, well we have the last of it now. This year was the WORST in my opinion, and I have been in the area for 25 years. I have never had a problem finding work, I check the various MT boards and Craigslist also yes occasionally Sutter does hire, but not so much MTs in this area - more in the Bay Area. Most of the Sutter Hospitals in the Sac area outsource their transcription. I worked there for 7 years in transcription, and another 4 years in other departments. Not so sure you want to work at a Kaiser Hospital, they aren't so nice. Good luck to you! Really this is such a great location for CA, you are close to mountains, ocean, etc. I think you are really going to like it!
Moving from Alabama to Sacramento, CA
Getting married in December.  Fiance' has been there for a year now.  How is the transcription job market in California.  I have a work-at-home job, but thinking maybe I can get something local.  Compared to Alabama, the cost of living is extremely high though.  How is the climate there, any and all info appreciated.
I'm 1 hour north of Sacramento but lived in Citrus Heights/Roseville areas for 10 years (sm)
and pretty much 'ditto' everything CAMT says... Kaiser very big in Sacramento but you could start applying to nationals and have a job by the time you got there!! Congratulations and good luck on your move!!

Does anyone know why companies are unwilling to hire people who live in the state of California?
california MT's

So far we have been told by 2 companies that they will not hire from California,  I am waiting on a reply from a recruiter who is checking into it.  I think it may have something to do with the OT laws and the highest employment taxes in the nation.

Sucks Though!

Born again

I am a Christian, so I understand witnessing to others; nevertheless, I have to say that I don't agree with that approach, because I've seen it fail before - not with everyone - but for the most part, that stance ends up driving people away rather than drawing them.  People don't want to hear someone tell them they're going to hell because they're doing this, that, or the other.  Maybe they do need to hear that from somebody, but it still comes across as judgmental, and being judgmental is something that Christians are NOT to be.  The old saying "you can bring a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" applies here.   He needs to understand that he can't force people to convert to Christianity just because he says all those things to them.  Maybe you could suggest that he not come on so heavy, and instead try inviting people to visit his church, and leave it at that.

Go to the bookstore. Buy him a book called "Jesus Freaks" (I am serious). He will love it. Then ask him about the book. Whether he is Buddhist, Christian, or atheist, it is always a great gift to have someone listen to your view. Americans view themselves as a Christian nation, and you just might learn something. keep an open mind, and stick to the subject of the book. Good luck and I hope the experience is a good one for both of you. The book is very interesting in the depth of human compassion and passion - no matter what your personal beliefs are.
I was born at 6:40 p.m. but am

California's is $11 or $12/hour...sm

whereas Florida is bumping it up to $6.15 an hour next month I do believe or next year sometime....2006.

It's all relative when you think about housing costs, like in california.....you could live in a dump and it might cost a half million.

Cold in California

Chance of snow tonight near Fresno.  I know this is not your kind of cold, but for us it's unusual.

I live in California (sm)
Actually, they get quite a bit of time off in year-round school. My daughter started school July 24 and will go to the 1st part of October and then be off all October. Then she'll get two weeks off at Christmas/New Year's. Then she'll go until February and have that whole month off. Then she goes until the end of May and is off all of June and most of July until she starts 2nd grade. It makes it easy to plan vacations because we know when she'll be off, and we don't always have to plan a vacation when everyone else in the world is. We actually enjoy it!
Still 2.69 in central California. nm

In-house pay in No. California is $22-30
.
Come to California and you'll fit right in (sm)

with all of us fat MTs    And California is usually a "skinny, healthy" state - not that I've seen of in-house, hospital MTs, at least here in Northern California.

IMHO, you will do better working in-house in a "liberal" area or state, or employee-oriented state, because major employers know not to go there, or else

Are we required to have a business license in California for IC transcription work?
In California pay is $20-21/hour.

You don't do the work in California, do you?
If you are not physically in California doing the work, then you don't owe them tax money.

I would not fill the form out.
Not EVERYWHERE in California is expensive
I live in a rural area near Napa. It's a LOT chaaper here (home prices and rent) than in SoCal where I moved from last summer. California is a big state, lots of places to settle down. Have to take time to really look.
California Transcription LLC

HELP!!!!  Can anyone tell me anything about California Transcription LLC????  I think it used to be called California Transcription Unlimited, but I'm not sure about that.  Was just offered an overflow account with them, IC, but they only pay monthly, so I will end up typing for 6 weeks before I see a paycheck!!  This is not a problem for me, but my only concern is that they are legit and actually pay people.  Would hate to find out at the end of June that they are rip-off artists.

I REALLY need some input here gang.  Does anyone on here work for them now or in the past, or know anything about them???  Thanks!!!

Hey, I WAS born in the south and I don't get it either.
But then again, I guess south Florida is not considered "The South," right?

I live in conservative N FL now and well, it's different..

You and msbeanctr are right on target and very eloquet.
If you know the time of day you were born, sm

please tell us, and if you are a day person or a night person.  I was born at 11:50 a.m., and am very much a night person.   I don't seem "with it" until noonish every day.

I've always wondered if our birth time might be indicative of what hours we function best (or whatever hours we prefer to function).

Let's see!!!

My daughter was born at 1:28 a.m. and if she is
doesn't even get in the shower till oh, about 9:00 p.m.   And she sleeps till 1 or 2 p.m. if she doesn't have to work.  Drives me nuts!  But then, I was born at 7:00 a.m. and I like to get up early and then am falling asleep by 10, 11 p.m. at the latest.
Born at 1:23 p.m. and definitely a night owl! nm

Kittens being born..HELP...
any advice on what to do with these kittens? Mom has decided to have them in a paper grocery bag (did not like any of the places we had set up for her!) She is just a kitten herself, a stray who showed up pregnant. One has already been stillborn, not sure how many more to follow! I know to keep the other cats away from her, but I have got appointments in town all day and can't just have her in a paper sack? Is it okay to put her and the sack into one of the boxes or what? Any help would be appreciated...TIA, the new grandma!
Thank you for the info--what city in California?

Jury duty in California
Everybody heard the answers to the questions; what did I do for a living, have I ever been a juror, had I ever been in a car accident, things that might pertain to that certain case.  It was a car accident in a parking lot.  I actually got chosen for the panel and was fighting staying awake through the whole thing it was soooooo boring.  After sitting in that hard chair for nearly 8 hours on the first day, I got up and could hardly walk.  I had developed a DVT sitting in that same spot all day and could no longer be a juror (oh darn).  Because of this, I cannot be called for jury duty anymore.
If anyone from California gets a chance - go to the GAB Board sm
my post was moved there, and I'm so afraid that no one will see it.
out of curiosity, is this MTSO in California? NM

California MTs and OT laws - Question for ya.

Hey there,

I work for Spheris.  My supervisor just informed me that from this point forward, I cannot work OT.

Are there any Spheris MTs from California who could e-mail me about what I could do as a cut in pay right now is devastating.

There are exceptions for people who do piece work I have read and wonder if there is a way to get around this.  I am paid by exam and sup says when I work 2 minutes OT, they have to pay me OT for every exam, plus if I work over 5 days, OT for the whole week, or over 8 hours, OT for the hourly pay...

Needless to say, I am devastated by this... as I live alone.  Need I say more?  ::sigh::
