AHDI Board Members Salary Info
Unless things have changed, I don't believe the board members are paid.  They do receive reimbursement for travel and a food allowance.  They go to board meetings every month or so at different places around the country and stay in the nice hotels.

IC vs. employee...see link to IRS site for more info...
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=99921,00.html
He's an "employee" and according to the law,
an employer must pay for travel time if an employee is required to report to the employer's establishment to clock in, load up, etc. and vice versa. If an employee leaves directly from home to the job site or vice versa it is not paid time.

He's not an IC so I guess what you're fussing over doesn't apply. BTW, I don't think he should be paid travel time from home to the place where they load all the machinery, etc, but I also believe the law is pretty plain. I guess I'll wait to see what he plans to do about it. Thanks for the opinion.
I filed for an extension and paid nothing until August 15th. No penalty for that, just interest. nm

I would like to know the answer to that question also, in addition to attempting to
comprehend the madness behind the motives of some posters who feel it is more therapeutic to mock than become masters of medical transcription.  The latter is the purposes........Isn' it??!!!
$72 is not their salary, it is their salary and benefits package

Cross country trip to CALIF and
back. My husband and I took three weeks and drove to California and back through the Southwest. Saw Yellowstone and the Giant Sequoias, Santa Fe, Sedona, etc. We had never been there and it was great just driving with no set plans, stopping along the way whenever and where ever we wanted... such freedom.. My second best was a week and a half to Glacier Falls, Montana, but that's been years and years ago. Heck, any vacation is a great one! My bags are packed and ready anytime!
$256.00 for June electric bill in Calif.

Am curious if anyone's else is outrageously high.  Mine typically is $150-200 for summer months.

I keep temp at 82 during day, 78 at night.  Temperatures here soar to 95-100 though.  But, I live alone and have gas hot water, gas stove.

Working at home has its pluses and minuses!  Leaving the air off for 8-10 hours a day while I was at the hospital working saved me a lot of cash in this utility bills.

Sorry...wrong board. I am half asleep here in Calif.

You must live in Calif - finding a good old doctor is nearly impossible here.
It amazes me. But, it is true. The stories I have heard are heartbreaking.

I blame it on the cap they placed on malpractice suits. Doctors here are complacent. In my town, we go to Stanford or UCLA for serious illnesses. It is well worth the drive.
This heat is unbearable in central Calif. Air quality is bad. I have never felt so unhealthy.
Over 100 degrees for 30 out of 35 days, the other days were 98 or 99. The air is so bad here in this pocket of the country that people are told to stay indoors. I sit for hours typing and then feel like a slug. Drinking gatorade for hydration and know it is high in sodium but am evaporating here, taking two showers a day as there is a constant dust cloud (particulates ugh).

I want to move but doing it alone at the age I am is a daunting task. What if I end up some place that is just as bad? The expense would make it impossible to relocate again. Wish I were rich...
I worked with a woman in her mid 80s. Did your friend/coworker live in Calif. by chance?
She was great.
Excuse me but federal taxes are paid as employee by employee
The ONLY difference in IC is you pay the ENTIRE amount of the SS which is the 15.25%, as an employee you only pay 7.75%.  And you can easily make up that difference in deductions.  As an employee you just have someone else manage your withholdings and as an IC you do it yourself.  I have much more usable income being an IC and not an employee and I am strict about putting aside what I need to.  But everyone always says you have to pay your own taxes, well your employer does not PAY them for you -- except 7.75% of SS, they merely withhold it for you.  As an IC you are the employer.

Two years go, I made $67,000.00.  Last year approximately $40,000.00 but I had an illness to deal with and Im still dealing with it, so probably this year, the best I will make is $25,000.00.  However, Im feeling stronger, my illness is getting under control so Im aiming for next year at least $50,000.00.
salary
@.10/line I average $45,000 to 53,000 depending on how many days per week I work.
Salary
I charge $60 per audio hour or $1 per minute for my general transcription work and understand this to be the going rate. There is plenty of work out there but it is not easy to find. I am currently enrolled in a good MT program, but am going to keep doing my general work on the side even after I get work as an MT, because it really concerns me that some MTSOs hire people whom they do not fully employ. It seems like a lot of MTs post here and elsewhere that they don't get enough work to do. How can anyone project their income if they don't know if they will get any work to do or not?

What is the average salary of someone starting out being a MT, and what type of raises do you get. Is it a good career for someone young to get into?
MT salary

Greeting everyone!

There was a recent post form someone inquiring about salary etc. Many replied you may even start below minimum wage. I can confirm that because that is what I am making.  I am not complaining........few expenses involved and my family situation forces me to be home, which I am blessed to be able to do.  The company I am with has also been great up until this point but now getting stricter. (Do not blame them.)

How long does it usually take to get up to say 150 lph? On pirmary account dictators are the same. On secondary acoout you may get dermatology, ortho, psych, neuro, OB etc. Enjoy the variety but hard to develop speed.

Thanks for any and all advice!

My salary PT...
I work 7 days a week... part time during the week and full time/on call on the weekends. At that I make about $400 every two weeks from my job during the week and $200 a weekend from the hospital I cover for. So about $1600 a month I guess.

I signed on part time because I plan on going back to school in January and I wasn't sure if they would let me drop down to PT if I started FT. Plus I can always work more if needed to make extra, just no benefits. But hopefully hubby will hear good news next week and we will get state benefits and I can go to the doctor finally! :-D

If I worked FT at my company I would probably make around $700 every two weeks so that would be $2200 a month with the other place. Hope this helps!

(I thank God that I live in an area that is dirt cheap for mortgage, etc!)
Salary ... sm
The point of a salaried position is to compensate for a job that does have a fair amount of extended hours. The salary takes into account a certain amount of overtime - that is why salaries are usually higher than what you would make with just an hourly wage or production rate.

At the same time, you'll also be paid that same amount even if you just work 8 hours a day.

No doubt, you will have some longer workweeks. However, having worked on salary, it is a nice relief to know exactly how much will be in the bank every single time.

If you really are not wanting to work more than 8 hours a day, you'll be quickly looking for another job.

Salary
How does anyone expect a person to survive on $20,000 a year (rent, food, utilities, etc.), not to mention if you are head of household with children? This is really shameful. It is almost as though they are trying to force American Transcriptionist out of the market.
You an IC, statutory employee or employee?
That designation, and/or forcing the IRS to designate you, can make a diff. Are you a corporation? Partnership? You need WAY more help than we can give you.
If you are employee, unless suit against your employee
otherwise the posts on here as far as I can see telling it like it is. I think a lot of the posts are so young they just don’t have a clue as to what it means to be an employee. You do as your employee wants (I am talking reason now, not stupidity as far as sexual advances, etc) or else you find another company that fits your personality better. You do not confront, you do not tell your employee no, that is their job, not yours. This is such a simple thing for people who have been in the work force for any period of time.
and we do pay their salary so who needs their approval. They need ours.
I would love to subject managers/supervisors to QA and have their salary based upon their performance.   Which begs the question, what do supervisors do all day but generate e-mails?  We do the hard work to bring money into the company so a supervisor can e-mail us and what else?
are you paid salary?

isn't salary taboo to ask someone

salary taboo?
Most people on this board are using an alias.  If you post your annual salary -nobody knows who you are. People are all over this board bashing transcription companies and naming names, yet when you ask for salary info they have nothing to say.
Yeah right, on this salary? :)
I wish.
The beginning salary for (sm)
a GS-0640-5 is $24677. Top end at that grade is $32084. Some localities have a higher pay scale, depending on the local economy. It's likely there will be no chance of promotion unless your supervisor quits, retires, or dies and you happen to be selected for the position. You must work to age 65 or 20 years of service, which ever comes later. Search
http://www.usajobs.opm.gov/
for all federal job postings. If you decide to apply for a govt job, be sure to read the qualifications for the position. When you write your resume, use the exact terminology (keywords) as the job description. Some clerk who has never transcribed anything in her life will be the one to look at your resume and decide if you are qualified. The only thing she has to go on is the qualifications listed for the position. When you fill out your paperwork for your security clearance, do not lie about anything. They don't care what you've done in the past, they are looking for any secrets you might have. If you have secrets you can be blackmailed!
They want to deduct your salary from their
business expenses - so if they have NOT paid you, do not cooperate. Send them a registered letter stating simply the total $ owed, and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope for their convenience - ha - and hold out signing any forms until YOU GET PAID!! What nerve they have!

QA/editor salary?

What is an average salary to expect for QA/editor with 10 yrs. experience?  I'm in the process of switching companies and have been offered 3 to 4 cents per line or between $24-26,000 salary.  At that rate, I will either have to stay where I'm at working under unrealistic conditions or go back to being a Transcriptionist (which isn't such a bad idea).

I'm not asking for specific companies, names, etc., but can other editors tell me, do companies offer a higher salary range such as $32-34,000 any more?  The last time I was out there looking for a job, QA/editors were getting a decent salary.  Now I'm finding they are getting less than MTs (and of course MTs are getting far less as well these days too).  Any input is appreciated.  Thanks.
Salary range

The 2-year assistant degree salary starts at around $30,000 here (the same as a beginning teacher).  The PT master's degree starts at around $60,000 per year here; other areas of the country, of course, are likely to vary.   I already have a bachelor's degree; I'm going for the master's, but I don't know how long the waiting list is.

Not unless you want to make a low salary.
this point.  Many with years and years of experience are not making what they should.

What's demeaning is the SALARY...SM
I remember 10 years or so, when MTs were complaining about the pay compared to other health care professions and at that time, outsourcing was just starting to come into play.  And we were making MORE then than we are now.  I don't think it's the economy either, though it contributes to the problem.  Before the economy turn a recent nosedive, how many of us were making adequate wages??  Blame outsourcing and the greedy MTSOs.
And whose salary are YOU paying...nm

I think that is a great salary!...sm
I would take it.
salary per line
For the last 25 years I have transcribed and being a MTSO once upon a time, people are usually paid between 6 and 9 cents per line. Even with all my experience, I still only make 0.825 cents per line. One of my best friends who also is an MTSO with over 25 years experience, types on the side for another company and she only makes 9 cents per line - tops. Nothing has changed in the last 25 years as you will see if you check the job boards. It is a very rare occasion that you will make more being an IC and the only way to make more is to own your own business; however, the time and trouble are entirely too much grief, eat up your life and then Uncle Sam takes the rest. As an MTSO, you might be able to get 15+ cents per line, but that is really pushing the envelope. When I tried to get my personal accounts to pay me over 10 cents a line, they went balistic... hope this helps a little bit.
higher salary?
Are you serious?

You decided to be QA and you get paid by the hour, not by production. Sell your sad tale to someone who isn't hammering the keyboard for those "crumbs," you talk about.

There is Omissions and Errors insurance to cover your QA errors. Get over yourself. You aren't all that and a bag of beans.

People like me did the bulk of the report and it's your job as QA to come along and do a little clean up. In other words, QA people are what then? Janitorial staff.
It is illegal if you found out someone's salary through
unauthorized methods, such as snooping in personnel files, but you can discuss your salary with others if you wish to.
