Check your state

If you do a blind health insurance quote for your state- you should have companies that will come up to browse for insurance cost/premiums. My DH and I couldn't afford insurance through my last job because I would have been out of network, and the cost was so extreme regardless just for me, so I got individual health coverage through HealthPartners in MN. Make sure it is a health insurance, and not a health discount program. Now we pay $277.00/month for both of us - at $750 deductible.

Maybe check out state or federal jobs.  That is how I started.  I was hired with absolutely no experience to work in a clinic for the state.  They then sent me to a local college at night and paid for my education.  MQ used to hire from transcription schools.  I dont know if they still do.  I think I read also where Encompass does.  I know Chronicle Transcripts used to as I worked there as lead transcriptionist and used to help train newbies.  Good luck!
What state are you in -- that you received the check already?

No check here, but does show up in ipay.

What does the attached letter say?

also, check out the laws in your state (sm)

regarding how the landlord should handle your deposit during the time you rented from them.  In my state, it must be kept in an escrow account, and the landlord must show proof of this.  Also, landlords are liable for lots of routine maintenance on the house/apartment while it is rented.  For example, landlords are responsible for painting, replacing miniblinds, cleaning carpets, etc every four years, in the state of Georgia.

Go online and check it out...you could get your money back, plus some! Good Luck!

Check with state and city

Portland has just decided to require all all I/C's have a business license.  Also check with your state to register your business name so you can put it on your checking account, etc.  It does cost but if you are a business and run it as a business you pay the the business costs as well as reaping the awards of the tax write off's.  But you need to check with your state and city for requirements.

You will need to check your state overtime
laws. In mine (Kentucky) if you work 2 Sundays in a row without a day off, the 2nd Sunday is automatic overtime, no matter if you have 40 hours in for that week or not. Need to check state laws and then with your MTSO. If it is overtime, then they probably would not go for that.
Check with your city and state.
I only found out about the license because the city came by asking me questions about my neighbors running a business out of their home for their investigation. They got caught and had huge fines. I now make sure to stay current on my licenses!
Or maybe check with your state's labor department?
?
Thanks for all the info. I will check and see what my State requires(nm)
xx
Must check your state labor laws
This is what most of them follow is whatever state you live in. I live in a state where you have to get 40 hrs before you can hit OT. No OT for more than an 8-hour day.

But of course, I also live in a state that has $1.95 as its minimum wage still!
Check with your state's Labor Board on #2

check state certification requirements

Make sure you check not only how much a program may cost you, but what your state requirements are. I'm in Utah and we are required to pass a state exam to be licensed to practice. There is also a national exam that is supposedly good if you take it, but is get pricey. I took the course locally with a program that included an internship. I personally found the career boring and it didn't pay well enough for me to pursue it, but every state has different pay scales so check into it.

You should have a leg up because you do have to learn and memorize a lot of drug names and what they are for. Also, make sure your basic math skills are good. Mine stunk, so make sure you can remember how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals. Good luck!!!

It all depends on what state you live in and what their laws and requirements are. Check with your

Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.)  Then you really avoid the tax situation.
Name a state and put every company in that state under suspicion.

Tell what the first letter of the company is and every company with that initial will be suspect.  I would imagine that everyone who works for that company has received an inquiry from department of labor, so they would all be aware of it.

Why do we persist in setting up companies to be torn down when there is no reason for it.  If a company is suspect, then give the name of the company, don't give big hints that cover at least 5 companies, 4 of which may be the best companies to work for, but fall into the category of an alphabetical letter, etc.

We pay personal property tax here and I would have to list all my business related equipment and pay taxes on it every year I was in business. So until I am told otherwise by my county, I will not be getting a business license.

Things are different from state to state, but I think
you probably could, if you are actually "laid off."  You would have to get a letter from your surgeon regarding your temporary disability status and take to the unemployment office and to Medicaid....but you know how Medicaid works, 1.5 pennies over the income limit, you don't get it.  But, as I stated, laws differ from state to state, so you would have to inquire or go on their websites and see what they will approve and what they will not.
If not in your state, try filing in THEIR state. Then they

DID you check with Social Security& does your son receive a check???

Go to SSA.gov and research the payee options.  You may have to use the search engine, but your answer to this particular issue should be there.

I am disabled and while my kids were minors, I had to fill out a form each year on how I, as the payee spent each and every penny of the money they received.  I don't see how his mother can justify how she spent his money for things that you normally would pay.

That said, he is getting Social Security right?  Is your son receiving a dependent check?  Under law, if a parent is disabled and has minor children, each and every one of those children also receive a check until they turn 18 or graduate from high school, which ever comes first.

The check is a percentage of your husbands, so for 800.00, your son should receive at least 350.00.  If you have not been getting this, they would pro-rate it back to when your husbands disability started and that in itself, could solve a lot of your financial problems.  You can also find this out on their website,  HTH

no - don't check out wildblue. check out hughesnet. sm
i was on wildblue. i absolutely HATED it. i paid $400 for install and equipment and bill was $51.51 a month for smallest plan. no bills, had to be direct debit from credit card or bank. wasn't a lot faster than dial up and i frequently went over my download limit so i had to upgrade to the $80/mo plan. speed was no faster on their "fastest plan". they had a 1-yr contract and only 1-yr warranty. well 20 days (kid you not) out of warranty my tria (the eye on the dish) went out and it cost me a total of $275 for replacement and tech call (had to wait a week and a half before tech could come and then he no showed and rescheduled for the next day stating he didn't have the equipment he needed to fix me and the repair order had been in for over a week by that time. no call to say he wasn't coming either, just no showed). they TRIED to sell me the entire package all over again to get me locked into another 1-yr contract and i declined. it was best in their book so your warranty and equipment would be "new". i had to tell them for 5 months to change which credit card to debit from, never could get it right. had to tell them for 3 months when my phone number changed. i could not wait until the day my 1-yr contract was over. have heard really good things about hughesnet. i think it is a tad more a month, but supposedly a lot faster than wildblue and not near as many problems from what i have heard from others. wildblue was down for an entire week at one point throughout the year i was on it. always got lost signals and page cannot be found multiple, multiple times throughout the day. i used wildblue with VPN (with transtech) and could not keep a connection enough to get a decent line count as i was dropping signals too much and it did slow it way down. i finally got clinic work rather than acute care where time and speed wasn't a factor. research message boards for complaints about wildblue and hughesnet before deciding. also hughesnet i think told me a 2-yr warranty rather than only the 1-yr with wildblue.

Again, I must state...

Why does any state take them in

"we have enough losers of their kind here already, i'm pissed"

WHY? Because your have competition???? As they say, it takes one to know one.

Can you tell us what state they are in?
or the first letter of their name? TIA

What state are you in? Maybe we can help.

you state....
"serving his country" Our military over in Iraq is NOT serving the USA, sorry to speak. I support our soldiers and have several friends and my brother over there serving. But, I am not in support of the war itself or our president who put us there.

In reply to some of the other posts.......I also have friends who got a good education paid for due to their service in the military, so yes it is a reason for many to enlist. I would not encourage my own child to enlist, mostly due to fear that he or she would need to go to war one day and my love for them far outweighs my love for my country. And, I personally don't feel that war is the path God leads us in.....
All the ads do not state exactly what they want....sm
a lot of them do state looking for IC status but most certainly do want to dictate times working and weekends, been there and needless to say refused !!

State

I am in North Carolina, but the this is coming from Illinois.  It just sounds like a mess to me.  I know you can get incorporated online, but I would rather talk to an attorney first.

Any info on proprietorship would be appreciated.  Sounds like more federal, state and county money.

I do all that you state above but I do know - sm
that many don't do this. I have 2 IC jobs, neither has a true QA dept. I am expected to proof my work by relistening, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, though I do always go over it quickly. My one manager complains a lot about how most of the MTs do not take the time or effort to look up doctor names, or to call her if they have trouble with a name. I have told her a million times it is because (1) they don't care, (2) they won't take the time since they are not getting paid for it. I generally limit myself to 5 minutes, then if I cannot find it I call her later on and she finds it for me and I fill in my blank. Yeah, it is a pain to do and cuts into my bottom line but I do turn in good work and they have no complaints as far as I am concerned anyway. Too many MTs think they are above the little stuff that counts, one more reason for hospitals to outsource to India. At my one IC job, we just got the work stopped from going to India overnight, which is great, now we have more work than we know what to do with and are working our butts off to keep in TAT, but at least we are the ones earning the money; so if I have to be a bit more dilagent in more work it is worth it, and I wish other (more) MTs felt the same.
What state was this in? How's the pay?

What state are you from? I live in Indiana

Out-of-State
No...you would not be a resident of that state, so therefore, you still have to pay your state taxes. They usually dont care where you do the work as long as it gets done. I travel quite a bit and have my platform on both my desktop and laptop so that I can work wherever I am at the moment.
So, are you going to tell us the state???
x
Oh, my, again I will state
about the fact your program is not being trained. On the weekends I type mostly ESLs and if I did not have Escription I would pull my eyebrows out 1 by 1 (including the nails on my fingers). You should never have to retype like you are saying, never. Why are you using the so called "hot" keys? You do not have to do this, I don’t, had typed far too long straight to learn a new trick now and do great with the mouse alone. As I press my foot pedal once the actual dictation starts each word is encapsulated in a red box, always lets me know where I am. Get your mouse, give that a try (the companies are not going to fire you because of not using the hot keys) and see if that will alleviate some of the distaste you are having at this time. Wish I knew how to tell you about the sorry reports you are getting but your program is not learning, simple as that.
State of the MT industry

Obviously, you work some place that pays very well and you might even have secure employment. If so, that's great.  Some of us worked for companies that were sold or sent all their work offshore and we had to take jobs where we could get them.  Don't be so quick to judge other peoples' choices.  It's true that in some companies, wages are lousy, but do you really think you'd be a fry cook at the clown's over working from a home office?  If you are earning great wages and have a good job, I sure hope you're able to help other MTs find something as good as what you've got.
