About paying out-of-pocket for meds
I don't know what state you are in, but Wal-Mart Pharmacy has a great plan in which you only pay $4.00 for generic medications. I think that Target has a plan comparable to this as well.

Also, there are Patient Assistance plans that are available through some of the leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, which covers the majority cost of the medication if you are within a certain income bracket. For example, my daughter takes a medication, which is about $150.00 for a 30-day supply (there is no generic for this medication yet). I cannot afford it; so we applied for the Patient Assistance plan (which I had to research on the Internet to find out what/how to do this because NOBODY offers info on this sort of thing for some reason). Anyway, being that the MT industry pretty much pays their MTs at poverty level these days, we qualified for the patient assistance program. Now, I only have to pay a $5.00 copay for her medication.

I know how expensive medications can be. I hope that this message offers you some sort of relief in knowing that there is some help out there -- you just have to look for it. Hopefully, you can get some assistance some how.

I wish you much luck!
Nothing was missing. She did not take a purse. She only had her ID (to drink) in her pocket.
Everything else was in the hotel room.  If she drowned she would have become shark or crab food.
And how much do you pay out of pocket for AHDI dues? And required CEUs?

ah yes, the hand-held recorder is portable.

Hand-held digital recorders. sm
Does anyone have anything to say about any particular model?  I am thinking along the lines of Olympus or Philips.  Thinking a docking device best.   Any comments?  Thanks!
Two questions: 1) What hand-held recorder do

voice files from their recorder to an FTP site or whatever to be transcribed?  Does the doctor merely have to set his recorder on a docking station and the files are automatically transferred?  I've only had doctors calling in by phone in the past, never using hand-helds.

I've seen hand-helds for $100 and also for $500.  Just wanting a recommendation for a good recorder that is very easy for the doctor to use.  If it's not easier than calling in, he won't go for it.

Hand-held digital recorder
No, you have it all wrong. I need the hand-held recorder in order to dictate passages for a novel to be transcribed at a later date/point in time. I have the player software, but need a hand-held recorder.
Which hand-held unit is simplest for doctors? sm
Need a handheld unit, but need to know of simplest one for doctors to use. Also, is there a program that uploads the dictation as soon as you connect the unit that sends it automatically? Thanks.
Hand-held digital recorder question

Thinking about purchasing a digital recorders to give my doctors the option of using.  Which has the best quality of sound and easiest to use?  Also, need an FTP site information.

Thanks

RE: Olympus hand-held recorder - advice

Yep, they dictate in noisy nursing stations, dictate in the ER, dictate in the OR when they are
cleaning up banging around and we are supposed to hear them. So much for HIPPA.
Do you mean the palm?
If you mean the palm of your hand, it could be Dupuytren's contractures (I may have spelled that wrong - don't have my Quick Correct on here - lol).  I have two or three cysts in the palm of my hand and that is what I have.  It supposedly will eventually cause the fourth and fifth digits to contract in.  This can also occur in the feet.  The strange thing is, I have them in my right hand and left foot.  Supposedly, this occurs in people of Viking descent, so know I can only picture my forefathers as these huge hairy horned men!
There is a palm demo but I don't see a regular one.

I've used Hand-Eze and Thergonomic Hand Aids. sm
They help with the carpal tunnel and keep hands warm for me. They cover the hand and wrist but leave the fingers free. I wear them inside out, though, because the seams rub on the skin too much for me. I've gotten so used to them, that it is more comfortable wearing them while typing than typing with nothing on.
Don't talk about hand, I still remember the one that got her hand chewed up by her pet rat....

had nightmares for 2 days after that.

It involves all of the fingers from about the mid-palm to fingertips. I also have
stiffness and pain in the knuckle of my middle finger, same hand. No swelling, redness, or warmth of the joint, though. Thanks!
No, the 2000 is the small one without the palm rest.
When I saw the 4000 and the 6000, they were bigger and I think they were cordless. This one is small, has a cord, and is very inexpensive; something like $15 I think he said!

I do better without a wrist rest also.
Well, if you broke your right hand and were right-hand dominant, can you see how this might be a fac
It may not be relevant at the time of dictating a physical exam or social history but in the future it would be good to know if the patient breaks the finger(s), wrist, hand, arm.
Yep. I have a couple docs that use laptops and some that prefer Palm Pilots, but they all point and

I think the parents should be held
responsible. I'm sure the rules are less strict for older kids (he is 16). But it seems a waste of time for the teachers if he is going to only show up part of the every week. He seems to think it is funny that he has really, really bad grades. Seems he is just wasting a spot at school and the teacher's time.
They held my return
They held my return as the name on the W2 did not match my SS#.  Had to change it.   Also with all of the problems with illegals it might even be tighter now.  Good luck, why don't you just change it???
At my place we are held to the same
rules like applies for most, having to keep and maintain a high score of 97-98%, reports pulled 4-5x a year to check and we are graded so the answer to your question would be no, not just the bigger issues. Fast forward audio means I keep my audio at the fastest speed I can always, only slowing down to hear something I might not hear well. I do not use hot keys, only the mouse, was told others could edit more but that would be teaching an old dog new tricks. I really do not have any secrets, type straight really fast and I have for years, and still keep an hr by hr line count just to see how I am doing.
That is an opinion and the same view could be held
by MQLover and others who support MQ.

Rude and offensive are opinions...what some find rude and offensive others don't.

Apparently, everyone who complains about MQ doesn't find their posts rude and offensive, do they? No. So from their perspective, they aren't doing anything wrong but venting.

Same with MQLover. I don't personally care for her style but she and a few of the others are venting. It is their opinion. They aren't using foul language, which can be objectively judged and banned.

It's a matter of choice as to whether you want to read the posts or not. I think it is a reflection of how those supporting MQ really feel about those who constantly complain about it.

By the way, one of the posters in an above thread has found the perfect MQ complaint forum! It's called the Employee Complaint Form on QNet! Please use it if you have a problem with MQ!

If this is Spheris, they said the gifts were held up in

I have a Goldtouch. It has held up for two or three years already. nm

Are you held to a standard of lines per day.
If so, what is that standard.  We have 1200 lines a day or 150 lines an hour.  Is this the average out there?
I held down the clear button and the screen
cleared, but the program button will not work still...no buttons do. Maybe in another day it will dry out, but I need to work today. :(

Thank you for the help though!
I have held all the positions I mentioned without having an RHIT.
She was asking for ideas. I gave her some.

Maybe it was tough for you but it doesn't have to be for her. :)

Being held to 5 reports a day is just crazy anyway! You learn by doing! nm

Many co. use Canadian MTs. There are also many accounts in Canada held by U.S. MTSOs
dd
I held both of my parents as they died from complications of smoking.
I told my children they were free to smoke after they did the same. There's not one smoker among my extensive circle of friends and associates, thank goodness.
Mine held back two weeks and pays
every two weeks, so we submit invoices on the 1st, and the previous two weeks check is mailed on the 1st. Two week pay periods. I agree with the others....I would never agree to wait until the MTSO got paid to get MY pay.
what state does she live in? Was she prosecuted and sent to prison or just held in jail?

Should've held out for the candy bar and refuse to leave till you get it!

and how many liberal arts and science bachelors degrees & beyond are held on this board?
LOL
Is it their computer? Why are they installing a firewall and autocorrect on your computer? That sm
is usually the responsibility of the transcriptionist, especially if an IC or SE.  Which company?
800 dictate can help you set it up.

Cannot dictate for MDs
You cannot dictate for a physician unless you have a PA or MD degree.  We volunteered at the last in-house position I held to dictate the discharge summaries instead of paying quite a bit for interns/residents to do the dictating and were told it is not legal.
If they dictate
your hours, you are not an IC and the IRS will sooner or later jump on it.  Do you file a schedule C with your income tax?  Be careful, because if you're not a real IC your deductions may not be allowed.
I often dictate for a doc sm
that will send his patients to a therpaist named Candace Jones, but he always sends them to Candice Bergan.
If they dictate them, they want them on there.

Question about transfering computer into to another computer.. sm

I have a dumb question - Just bought a new computer and someone told me to get a flash drive to transfer all my info.  But I'm assuming that ExText that I work off of and Escription will have to be downloaded again by the tech people onto my new computer.  I can tranfer these can I?

Thanks

How does one find out the computer specs on my computer?

I should know this, but I just don't remember how to do this.  I am hoping I have enough RAM, or whatever, to load work platform on my own computer and begin working on it, rather than paying *rent* on the company-furnished computer.  Thanks so much.

A computer is a computer, whether it be laptop or desktop.
I have both and use both and I bought both of mine...most companies do not provide computers...

nm
so, where do you get the information to dictate?
I mean, how much time do you spend on listening to a report and turning around and dictating into your machine.

Just curious...a male friend of mine suggested I do this years ago already.

He said, why not get a voice recog machine, and use it with your job.

Is this what you do, Snow Bunny? I am awful curious, because I was thinking of asking my employer, if they would pay for one of those machines so I can do my job better.

We could probably eliminate about half the MT work force...maybe that is what is happening already, why MQ is always out of work.

If that is the case, however, the only problem I have with that is that everyone should be able to have access to this technology, and it should be above-board from employer to employee...it should be like general knowledge that a company either uses this or allows this...

You have been doing this a long time and whether you know it or not are probably paving the way for the future.

I am the one who keeps trying to get everyone to check out what the MOHCA is doing...within a decade (my opinion) med records may not even need editors at all...

They are pushing for standardized text rather than free text, where a doctor does not even dictate anymore...will be a thing of the past.

My question is, then what?

Thanks.
they seem to be trained to dictate that way.
I worked at a hospital that had a podiatric residency program, and the residents were often required to do the dictation for operations performed by others.  Obviously the long format wasn't something the resident made up on his own, it was something they had been trained to do.  Other doctors tend to stumble into dictation without much in the way of instruction.
before they dictate....I presume...nm
x
Yeah, become a PA and dictate really WELL.

most surgeons dictate very well sm
That is one of the best things about ops.  When I say "dictate well" I mean that they normally know exactly what they are going to say and use the same phrases over and over, which means a better line count for you.  Plus, you are much more likely to get normals doing ops than you are consults and H&Ps (especially in acute care).  Instead of doing one of these docs who repeat everything, or change everything, or a resident who is all over the report back and forth.  That is what slows you down.  I absolutely love op notes; they keep you up-to-date on equipment, etc., and the line count is great, but most of them get farmed out to Spheris (gee, I wonder why?)  However, if you never type OP notes, they can be difficult at first.
