Does anyone have any good craft ideas for 5th graders to do during Christmas party? sm

I am usually in charge of my younger kids' classroom parties, but this year I am doing the 5th graders. I need a good craft for them to do during their party. Something easy and fun....but you know...not too baby-ish. Any help is appreciated!!!

craft ideas
I used to teach preschool and one year we made wreath banners using large white paper and green paint. These have to be quite large.  Trace a circle in the center and then have the kids dip their hands in green paint and place them around the circle until it looks like a wreath.  After it is dry, they can use red paint and their hands to make a "bow" at the bottom.  Fringe the bottom with scissors and use a string to hang.  Another idea is to use small squares of green tissue paper and a cut out circle.  Using the eraser of a pencil "twist" the square and glue to the cut out until it is covered with green tissue twisties.  Decorate with red ribbon.
Party Ideas for Preteens
Hi! my daughter is turning 10 next month. She wants to have an "all girls party" : ) and wants to have some games. I just don't know what games are still suitable for their age. Any ideas? Thanks.
Favorite company Christmas party..

Do you have a favorite you went to?  I'd like this to be a positive thread, fond memories, that sort of thing.

I worked for a very large hospital for about 4 years.  Every year at Christmas, the company party was in the cafeteria (a huge, monstrous cafeteria and half of it was curtained/walled off for our party).  The party was during an entire 24-hour period on 2 different days.  We could sign up for 4 hours time (paid) to go in groups to the party during our shifts.  When we got down there, after showing our badge, the CEO would hand us a crisp new 100-dollar bill.  They would have tables and tables of all kinds of fantastic snack/finger foods and desserts.  The TVs were showing videos that were scanning the crowd the whole time.  There was a band that played some and upper management would put on silly plays, sometimes children's groups would come sing.  We really had a good time.  Everyone got to enjoy the party.  We went home with an extra $100 in our pockets.  Enjoyed good food and entertainment and got paid for it!  Then we were worthless the rest of the day in the office, hahaha, while we continued to snack on all the dozens of goodies that clinics and offices had sent to the us, the transcription department.  :)

Now, we don't get THAT working from home, huh?!  Hahahaa

For those who work on their own, any Christmas ideas? (sm)

For the clinics you transcribe for?  I've gained some new clinics so will be sending out a holiday gift and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.  I've done the tins of Hershey's mixed chocolates and thought maybe some of you might have some different ideas.  Can we brainstorm?

All of these ideas are good.

We lost a newborn.  I know it is 100 times worse for an older child, but I appreciated all the things people did for me.  Our neighbor came over that morning without being asked, while I was still in the hospital, and mowed our lawn before people started coming by. Other friends brought some meals.  I most appreciated visits from friends.  I was still on maternity leave with no baby to take care of.

good ideas

I've looked into other things I could do as a sidestep from transcription, like editor, or biller, there are tons of ads for billers and coders.  I'd need more schooling.  As far as support from family, thats great that yours admire you.  Mine is just really judgemental and have always thought I never lived up to my potential.  I've always been content though.  Being an MT allows me my independence which is the most important thing to me.

Thanks all - some good ideas here. (sm)
Lately, my acct has added on a lot of progress notes, and if I don't get some more stuff in my expander, I'll never make any money!  Thanks a lot.
Good ideas. Thanks. nm

Good ideas here

I have a special "C&P" resume. I use Courier font because it will appear the same in email as it does in Word. I keep everything flush left. Where I might ordinarily use a bullet, I use a dash:

Transcribed reports for the following specialties:
- Cardiology
- Gastroenterology
- Oncology

Good ideas if you want to keep them.
I agree, sometimes you have to go along to get along, I made a lot of money with tapes as well. If you lneed the money, THINK hard, you may be sorry if you really depend on that income."Talk over her head" and make her think she's getting a "real deal" if you use the very expenesive labels and eat the cost for now until you can't stand it anymore. Think of your own monetary position and your needs. They love to think they're getting a "bargain" just blow smoke until you don't have to anymore.
good ideas
There are fantastic ideas here http://www.productivitytalk.com/forums/index.php

Good luck!
Good ideas !
Thanks for the info. I like the sound of the insurance company ones. Do they send you work via internet? Do you use a footpedal just like medical transcription? Just wondering.
Thanks everyone...good ideas and I appreciate the input..nm

Good ideas - but most want to be at home! sm
I work more being at home, albeit not in 8 straight hours, but I get more work done at home with more lph working in 2-hour shifts throughout the day. Working in the office would not cut it for me. I have been working at home for 16 years now, no way will I go back to an office. So, if you are looking for the seasoned MTs to work in the office with the newbies - good luck with that!

I think you have great ideas and it will work, you just might have to modify a few things along the way.

Best of luck to you!
Good ideas, maybe I will look into getting an external - sm
backup hard drive as well that would certainly take care of losing any data, and seeing it every day would remind me to backup my important files! I bet there will be a run of people today backing up their work! I do keep written notes on my work, though not the line counts. I only lost about 15 files, about 2000 lines (it's a small account), just hope they have it all handy, they tend to lose/misplace files. Hate to have to retype them so I can bill them (of course I happened to delete all the sound files off the server I use yesterday for last weeks work, so I would have to have them resend all the sound files as well), but I will do what I have to do in order to do so!

How was everyone's Christmas? Good, I hope.
We wound up missing the big Christmas Day family feast because one of our kids woke up from a nap with a 102.4 degree temperature.  It hit 104.9 in the middle of the night last night.  Of course, the clinic is closed today so I'll have to take him to the ER if things don't get better soon.  Poor little sprite.
Yay! Good for you and Merry Christmas.

what's up for dinner tonight? Any good ideas?

Does anyone out there have any good pet friendly vacation ideas?? sm
Would  love to go away for a small vacation with the kids but they dont want to leave their furry friends behind...and neither do I.  I am looking for someplace that will take two dogs and is also kid friendly. I live in Ohio so I dont want something to far away. Dog friendly and kid friendly....too much to ask for????
Any good ideas for rose bushes? sm

I'm thinking of planting rose bushes along our new fence and just can't decide from all the varieties.  I do want some that bloom all summer long and are winter hardy. Illinois can be brutal sometimes.

ANY GOOD IDEAS FOR VALENTINES DAY GIFT FOR HUBBY - BESIDES ME!
I love flowers and he surprised me tonight (since he is working tomorrow) with a beautiful plantar full of different plants and flowers I can keep inside and transplant outside this spring.  Would like to surprise him as well but stumped as to what to get?  What do you get a man who has everything?
I am looking for some good basic orthopedic sites -- Any ideas?

Me thinks 5th graders would think it's really dumb. nm

Why don't you ALL stop acting like 6th graders
What is the point of all this petty name calling, put-downs, and general meangirl behavior? Seriously, if you're content in your job, just do it and be happy that you are. Thousands of other MTs have been screwed over and that is a fact.
Does anyone have any good ideas for back and hip pain from sitting all day? Anything on the market?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's an "etible" craft!
Make Hamburger cookies.  Kids of all ages like this.  You just need vanilla wafers, which will be the "hamburger buns" and then you use different colors of frostings/icing for the ingredients.  You can have brown for the "burger" and then yellow for "mustard", red for "ketchup", white for "onion," etc.  Make them as tall as you want with as many different colors as you want, and then the kids eat them up!
there is a craft pen - permanent -
I have one in gold. it was used on glass x-mas ornaments we made and dated, and it was used to autograph a guitar (Alice Cooper) because of its permanent nature. Neither rubbed off.

Came in gold and silver, not sure what other colors. This might work.

Also, I agree below, clear fingernail polish on the next new one before using.

Me too, what is it? Craft or exercise? I enjoy

Hi: try www.kidsturncentral.com and click on Christmas to see if there is anything there you could use for the kids. Hope you find something. Happy Holidays.
Skip Christmas Day and do drinks/snacks Christmas

BFA in Jewelry/Metals, did craft shows here and there but did not make a living -sm
goal though for this Fall or soon that is, is to get my work done by noon, then spend 3 hours at least 2 x a week in my studio which I have not touched in about 6 years.....see if maybe I can get the ball rolling again with that via local shops, studios, etc. Used to have reps that sold my jewelry in Philly which was quite nice.
Some of the craft stores like Michael's carry them in funky colors, too. nm

I use a craft glove with an extra long wrist band

Any good ideas where to look. Job Bank and Resume bank not working.
I think they must be waiting for a tech for repairs.
Do you have an I-party near you? OR....SM
try the web for homemade costume ideas.   A cute one I've always wanted to do was to hang cereal boxes all over the body with fake rubber knives sticking out of each onewith fake blood and go as a CEREAL KILLER.
new yrs eve party
we met at 2000 new yrs eve party. i went out with my brother & his friends that night b/c my friend blew me off and it was there that i met my husband. :-)
Also, who knows what the other party
in their recorded statement. I used to transcribe these things too and the one thing I noticed is that out of one accident, each party always blames the other guy and sometimes the statements vary wildly as to what happened. You might want to get your version on the record. Just be sure to speak clearly and don't talk over each other.
Yes were going to a party party
wait, I think that's backwards, LOL
Spa party help, please

I'm hosting a spa party at my house on Friday at 6:30 p.m.  I'm going to serve:

Vegetable pizza

Chips/Mexican dip (cheese, cooked ground beef, salsa in the crock pot)

Fresh fruit (strawberries, grapes, blueberries)

Lemon squares

Tea/soda/coffee

Would it be okay to use pale yellow paper plates, napkins, utensils, hot/cold cups with a white tablecloth and a vase of fresh flowers?  Can I move the chairs away from the kitchen table and serve the food there or should I put it on a table in the den where we'll be having the party?  Should I offer drinks as people arrive and wait until everyone is there before we eat or should everyone just get their food/drink as they arrive?

I've never had or been to this type of party, so I'm really nervous.  Does my menu sound like enough, too much, yucky choices???  I thought it would be fun having a spa party, but it's made me a first-class nervous wreck planning it!

I'm open to all ideas and recommendations.  Thanks.

Party...party...party......
Party...party...party....

Or have a party going on right behind them
Many of the ESL's I get must either choose dictation stations right next to congested areas or don't have a clue how their dictation sounds because they never play it back.  It's hard enough to understand them without loud personal conversations and bursts of laughter right near by, or the somebody loudly paging someone right through their dictation, or sitting right next to a phone that rings and rings.  This is the norm on most of the dictations I've been getting, and I'm really tired of it!  When I worked in-house people KNEW to be quiet when someone was dictating, and the doctors edited their dictations enough to hear what was going on the background.  This is one of the down sides of working off site - you can't grab anybody and say - "come listen to this, and then don't blame me if its full of blanks"!
We are not an outside party

We are directly under the physician. We are not BCBS or the government.

Having an engagement party for our son and his g/f!
YAY!
Wow, a party on a Monday? Can I come?? (sm)
I'll bring food too; I'm a good coo, I swear I am!.
I made this for a party once..sm

You may have already seen these, if not they are rather cute.

Purchase some plastic (deli type) disposable gloves.  These are made to touch food, etc.  Put a candy corn in fingertips (for fingernails) stuff rest with popcorn.  Tie top with colored black/orange ribbon, and put plastic spider rings (found everywhere at halloween) on top of glove after they are stuffed.  These are really kinda cute.
