kindergarten graduation - how dressy?

my son is graduating in 2 days from kindergarten.  his note to parents says to wear "dressy" dress.  how dressy would you all go?  i don't want him under dressed but not over dressed either.  also, i have had a hard time finding a good "children's tie".  any ideas?    i found some in those prepackaged shirts/ties combos but none were his size and long sleeved.  we are in Texas so we are already hitting 90s so didn't want the long sleeves.  i just got him some dockers, docker shoes, and nice dress shirt but dh says he needs a tie.

FYI, just last week we bought my 8th grader a dress to wear to her band concert (at this school the 8th graders are in high school band).  i kid you not, 90% of the females in the concert were wearing formal dresses for the concert.  wow, i know my daughter felt out of place and i felt it for her.  we just moved here a few months ago so i had no idea these girls would wear formals to a band concert and this is a very small 2A country school.  so this is why i am wanting my son to not be over or under dressed and wondering what most normally do and if the norms have changed in the last few years.

Sorry, based on above posts of others, figured the average age was kindergarten! Am I too old??
I'm not an offshore supporter - Why aren't you big and brave enough to post YOUR real name on here and then we can all take pot shots at YOU by name. Or are we scared to do that??? Wah, wah...
I agree with you. I had a kindergarten graduation back in ྉ...sm
But it was really casual, our caps were cardboard and yarn, and it was very short. I think the parents had to sit on the little kindergarten-sized chairs. I didn't want to do it because I was very shy and terrified of being in front of people, LOL. But we had nothing else after that till the real graudation from high school. I don't get the significance of grad from 6th or 8th grades, either. It makes them come to expect rewards for EVERY accomplishment no matter how small. That stops abruptly when you get out of school!
You need to get over this kick you are
on and get it through you 60 pound skull that I am my own person, I am not responding to anything I post. Whether or not you believe it, fine. I have no reason to lie about it. Get a life and a hairbrush.
Why don't you go kick your dog?

Here's what I get a kick out of....sm
I agree with you 100%. I really get a kick out of the people playing "grammar police" who end up having typos in their own messages!
I'd get up and kick my dog if I got that. I like short SM
little tonsillectomies and stuff. :) Keeps me awake.
Yes, but they get such a kick out of being jerks. So
either you don't post or you put up with skipping the trolls and not letting them get to you. For the most part, people on this board are very helpful and friendly. Too bad the others don't just go away!
Probably around $24K if you kick butt - sm
Not too many MTs make $44K; if they do they either work 18+ hours a day or have their own accounts and still work long hours. If you need a steady reliable income you are best staying where you are; or do your current job at home if you can.
Now, could you kick my butt into gear? LOL
I don't wanna work today.  Not sure if it's the rainy weather or if it's just my total lack of motivation!
Someone please give me a swift kick in the

rear end to get me to work. I go on a week long vacation starting Saturday with no kids and today I did about 1/4 of my normal lines and that might be padding it a little bit. I was too busy looking at pictures of where we're going. Did I mention no kids are going with me?

Before I get comments about why'd I have kids if I'm so happy they're not going to be there. I have 3 teens who act 65, two 13yo, 12-year-old and a 2-year-old. Three are hitting puberty and one just hit the terrible 2's. It will be our first vacation w/o kids in a long, long, long time. After only 3 days here my mom is asking why I'm not bald already from pulling my hair out. Now if work could just pay me to sit and look at pictures all day and daydream, I'd have it made.

Unfortunately, he really blew it and she really needs to kick him to the curb.
Sorry.
TWO dachsies stay in my lap (unless I kick them out then .....)
I'm MEAN MOMMY :)
I think you ought to kick the creep to the curb and be done with him.

Living life like that isn't living life at all.  You need to do what makes you happy.  Never, ever, stay together because of the kids.  Your kids are probably not the happiest children with the home situation the way it is, and you know that he already doesn't want the responsibility of taking care of your kids, so what's the use in having him hanging around your neck like an albatross?

I was married to a jerk who was very similar to your husband and with 3 children it wasn't easy to manage on my own, but I sure did it and I'm glad I did.  It was difficult getting out of my "comfort" (discomfort) zone and make the change, but I knew it had to happen.  That was nearly 5 years ago now and I am happier and my children are happier.  Dear old dad comes around whenever he feels like it to see the kids and I have his paycheck garnished for child support.

Best of luck to you!

#1-no doctor is going to kick me out of the room
#2 - My daughter has had the guardasil shots and is just fine. It protects again HPV which is one of the most sexually transmitted diseases that can cause cervical cancer.

It seems if these issues concerned you that much, you should take them up with the doctor.
Something else about the Gold Touch.(Should I be getting a kick back from them?)
Something else about the Gold Touch.  I have my chair positioned so hands do not point up or down. I try to keep them as neutral as possible.  I also make sure my arms are resting on the armrests, so I am not using any strain/tension to keep them in place and even. I rest one arm on a little pillow wedged at my side since my short little arms don't rest on the arm rests in a comfortable position for me.  Then I fly.  I hardly have to move my hands at all, the fingers do the typing, so to speak. lol.
Anyone in your life who enjoys seeing you upset -- gets a kick out of it?

If you say you don't like a certain behavior or comment, it only makes him do it more and more and over many years just to get a reaction long after you have stopped reacting.

Or who is controlling to the point he wants to know when you showered and why do you need to shower if you didn't leave the house.

Or steals your glory, ideas for inventions or any project you start to say it was his idea and really mean it.

Or is extremely macho and needs to dominate the woman in his life or else he feels disrespected by her.

Or breaks things when he tells you to shut up during a discussion that isn't going his way and you don't.

Or….etc. --

But is happy and smiley face when it's time for dinner to be on the table.

I need to gripe or vent - please don't kick me off board

I occasionally come on this board, as do some of my coworkers to get help with words, look around, etc.  I've never posted but today I'm fuming and frustrated.

I just got done working a couple of extra hours at the hospital this morning, worked all day yesterday (overtime I might add) and do you know what my job has been on all this overtime? Correcting ALL of the outsource's work coming in.  What makes me mad is that all of us have been complaining to our boss and even to HER boss about all the mistakes this company makes - terrible dreadful DEADLY mistakes - and all we get back is "there is nothing we can do about it.  We signed a contract and we have to continue to use them until the contract ends." Which, by the way, ends in another year or two, I'm not sure.  But anyways, this outsource company (who is WELL KNOWN) does not even make an attempt to do our ESL doctors, who are not really that bad. I know there are harder doctors to understand as I have been doing this for 16 years.  The service sends the reports back with a ridiculous amount of blanks.  We go in and listen to them and basically redo the whole report, to which they get paid for it.  Then there are the easy docs - the so-called "hold your hand while I dictate to you" docs - and the service still has mistakes.

Our boss has asked on occasion if they are offshoring, which they swear they are not.  It was in the contract that they are not to offshore so they swear they are not and the mistakes don't look like they are offshore mistakes (the hospital used a company prior to this one that offshored - big difference in transcription mistakes).

I just cannot believe that our hospital has had this company for a little over two years and not only are they being paid a ridiculous high line rate, but we are correcting all their reports and they still get paid!! We have asked if we can start deducting lines, but we were told that their contract states that that cannot be done because our boss has tried that.

I have a friend that works at a hospital in another state that had an outsource service that was somewhat like the one we have, only they constantly lost reports and got paid for them, but she just lost her job because the hospital felt that there was no need to have all the overtime for the past year and the outsource service doing the overflow.  So they just hired a new outsource company, let all the transcriptionists inhouse go, and got rid of their current outsource service.  she is looking around for another job now.  She had that job for 9 years at the hospital, and because of the outsource service, the administration of the hospital looked at is as a huge $$ problem and just said bye bye.

I needed to vent. Aaaaahhh, I feel better now, but I'm worried that with all our overtime and what the outsource service gets paid, that I'm going to end up in the same boat.  Even our boss has admittedly had some worries about it as well, but she keeps telling us that her boss says her hands are tied and is just as frustrated with the service.  It makes you wonder how it is that these services can be in business for so long, make sooooo much money and do this.

When I grade I look for...
...correct terminology and spelling, and nothing else. I once scored a report with 17 spelling errors. I told the applicant that I failed her on those. She replied "I don't have time to watch for that c--p!"

Does anyone with that kind of work ethic attitude think they're going to get hired? Who'd want to work with them? Any of you account managers or QA peeps out there want them on YOUR team? Didn't think so.

Anyway, I know where the spots are that the inexperienced or too cocky people will screw up, and that's pretty much all I look at. I leave it to QA to teach/correct areas that need to be changed, if need be. I just want people who know the terminology and can use it correctly.

Recently I took a test where I was dinged for NOT using the JCAHO dangerous abbreviations. However, how is one to know what to do when there are no instructions whether to use intelligent transcription or transcribe verbetim? That's where the people who are doing the scoring need to actually USE their gray matter rather than assume that people who are testing have consulted their psychic the night before to know what that particular QA peep is going to get their panties in a bunch over.

I'll get down off my soapbox now. Lol....
My son has been on an IEP since 1st grade sm
he is now in the 5th. The IEP helped a lot. He has accomodations when taking tests i.e. tests are read aloud to him, when he has math a tutor sits right beside him and he has speech 3 days a week for 30 minutes.
My son is currently in 5th grade. sm
I have to say his elementary school has been great and it is a public school. In fact, his kindergarten teacher was the best anyone could ask for. She really got him interested in school and loving it. In fact, I was the only one crying his first day of school. He was in heaven.

I would suggest going and sitting in on the classes and spending time in the school to get familar with the staff. My son's school has a wonderful staff all the way down to the school janitors who are husband and wife and treat the kids great.

Although there are a couple of teachers that I personally did not care for, we were given the opportunity to request teachers and they were honored if at all possible. I was able to avoid the couple of teachers that I did not care for. They may have been great, but I just felt that their style and personality didn't match my son. This really makes a difference; a child needs someone he is not intimated by to learn from. If they are afraid to ask questions, the teacher will never know if they need help.

This is my son's last year in elementary school. I have to say I do have reservations about our middle school and high school. After we built our home, they redistricted our community into one of the worst middle schools and high schools in our county. We have been considering private school, but the schools close to us are so expensive. We could put him through college cheaper than middle school and high school.

Sorry so long, but I know all information helps especially when our children are concerned.
Not heartless...just a bully who likes to kick sand
Please....there is no justification for your behavior, don't try to come here and defend your disgusting behavior.  This woman is crying out for real help...not some quick, off the cuff, hurtful remark.  I feel sorry for you.
Hi TIA, my DH is a former 7th grade teacher and now....
is a high school principal.  Don't people like that ignorant poster above really burn you up?  As the wife of a teacher, I can vouch for the long hours and dedication that teachers put in.  My DH can talk you through a typical week that will prove that most teachers put in 12 months worth of full-time hours and MORE in the 9.5 months that they work.  That doesn't even count the summer hours preparing for the next school year.  I have sat home on my anniversary because my husband is off chaperoning a trip so the kids can attend a band competition a thousand miles away.  We have spent endless dollars of our own supplementing these trips, buying things for needy students, and making "sports supervision duty" a family night out so we can spend a little time with hubby and Dad.  Don't even get me started on the vandalism that we've incurred over the last 15 years.  Shall I start with the car that some little gang banger started by pouring a gallon of gas into our car and setting it on fire, because he was suspended?  Or how about the rocks put into our gas tank of our car?  Teachers ought to get hazard pay!  Wasn't an asst. principal just gunned down last week?  Teachers don't become teaches for the money, believe me.  Where else can you finish a bachelor's degree and an 18 month credentialing program for a whopping 25,000 dollars a year (in some areas, more in others).  A car mechanic makes twice as much as that!!!  So, I pretty much dismiss those people who think teachers sit on their butts all day and skate out the door at 2:30.  Their kids are probably the worst of them all.
Low grade olive oil is the best.

Fourth grade
Sounds like she is in 4th grade (age 9)? Most people agree that that is a tough year. I remember it was for me and my twin sister. I was not comfortable with competitive sports, but I think it would have given me confidence (and an outlet for all the negative energy of anxiety) if I had taken martial arts after school, or gymnastics or something like that to give me confidence and strength.
Furman grade
NM
sorry, but this isn't grade school
When you get out of grade school and become an MT, try following the MT Book of Style, which contains the guidelines for this profession - whether you like it or not.
I think pre-existing stuff may kick in if you have have no certificate of previous coverage.
nm
so maybe you should kick back and watch some tv as you relax and drift off in your lazyboy.
you'll hate yourself in the morning when you read your crazya$$ posts.
Thanks for all the feedback...time to kick it into high gear, I guess..nm

grade versus stage
grades are regular numbers, 1, 2, 3, etc. Stages are I, II, III. It's easy to remember this way - The Romans are on the Stage.
Depends on which grade you will be teaching, but
z
1984. I was in 4th grade. I'm 32 and not ashamed to say!!
Good for you! Every vote counts!
grade typing back in the 60s...lol...sm
so today, that is kind of hard to change especially when you have everything saved (macros) the way we USED to type that....it's just THIS week, I'm trying to do only 1 space after a period and I'm older than dirt!!  And I find that particular aspect of 1 space after a period very time consuming.........to make sure you didn't hit that space bar twice.
Word Help--Firmin grade 3??
Patient with kidney cancer.  Sounds like "Firmin" grade 3???
Hey how do you get any work done ROFL and LOL and LOL making QA grade
and all the busy little things you need to do? I think you are management and what happens on many jobs is managements fault. And many management decisions are REVERSED by protesting and that is what I am doing. You must have heard about unions haven't you? They exist to change situations for employees and create a fair playing field. You can go along with the plan or try to do something. I will try to do something. In the meantime, pick yourself up off the floor roley poley MT. I don't like the visual.

My son has played since 2nd grade, quit last year and sm

came back this year excited about it for the first time in 4 years.  I did not realize that he was not having fun anymore until I see how much fun he is having this year.  I also talked to a few college scouts who said that it does not matter if they take a year off to concentrate on grades.  My son missed it more than he thought.  I am just glad my husband and I kept our mouths shut last year.

As a former 2nd grade teacher... NO way. Why? (see rant inside! Ha ha!)

As a former schoolteacher.... We would not have done "snowman poop" in class.  No way, no how.  I think it's a little on the tacky side but still relatively harmless, so that isn't why I wouldn't do it.

Too many parents with no life and too much time on their hands would complain.  Teachers have to walk on eggshells to avoid giving parents any tiny thing to freak out about.  The kids? They're great.  Parents?  Man, do we need some chlorine in the gene pool.  If they aren't expecting teachers to do free tutoring after school (Why would you expect that? Do we give away free MT for doctors? No! ) or to hold conferences after 6:00 PM so they don't have to leave early from work (Hello, teachers have families, too! They're YOUR kids, YOU take off work early rather than expecting a teacher to stay past 5:00, okay?) they're "forgetting" to send lunch money for weeks at a time or refusing to take any responsibility for their child's behavior and blaming it on a million different reasons other than that they just don't take the time to work on the problem.

Two degrees in education and a gift for teaching, but never again.  I'm an MT for the rest of my working years.

Numbers question! VIP! Grade 3/VI systolic murmur.

Incorrect, right? Am getting immense heat that this is "just fine" per old school transcription, cause I'm under 30 and "don't know".  Grade 3/VI??  Comments please! I'll be glad to admit if I'm wrong, but I just cannot see how this could be correct.

DD is a 1st grade teacher, and is ready to throw in the towel
already - not because of the kids, but because of the interferring parents (mothers) who cannot bear to let "little Suzie" out of the nest, cuz, you know, she is my baby, so I want to be with her as much as I can.  She thinks these mothers cause more harm psychologically for the kids that anyone realizes.  They lose coping skills, other kids make fun of them for being a big baby, and they lose all identity.  Can't these mothers get a life away from the kid's school?   She has 3 or 4 that think they know everything and are constantly interrupting her to "correct" her way of teaching.  She is not a new teacher, has been teaching for over 10 years now and is rated one of the top teachers in this area.
English. I learned this word in the ninth grade.

Hey, that's how I learned typing in 9th grade! And the teacher was a witch. nm

Heather knows David Spade since 10th grade
David Spade and Heather Locklear were in the 10th grade together so they have a long history......they did try dating this past year but that didn't work, according to David on TV just the other night.
My conversation with you is over. You sound worse than a pack of 6th grade girls.

Went to my 5th grade daughters baskeball championship game today!

I threw my back out playing dodge ball in 2nd grade. nm

I agree 100%.
I was 15, in 10th grade, getting ready to go to school I guess - a bit hard to remember - nm

just reminded, did you know Einstein failed grade school? His teachers told
Thank god they didn't believe it or the world would have been robbed of one of the greatest minds.
