Looking for weekend work

I have over 8 years experience in clinic transcription.  Any companies out there that hire for weekend work only?  Must be at least 8 cents a line.

weekend work
I just got weekends with Transcend services. they pay 8 cents a line. I said i wouldn't do op notes and they said okay. not too bad, tech support is GREAT and very helpful. if you try them out, drop my name??? Sue Broussard

GOOD LUCK
weekend work
I have never been asked to work on weekends, however I do work an occasional Sat. for a few hours just for extra $.  I sure would not want to have it mandatory!
I work 16-20 h every weekend for nat'l...
Fri-Sat-Sun for nat'l averaging 20+ hours per weekend and Mon-Tues-Wed privately which sometimes spills into Thursday. I am able to juggle the private mds days ad lib during the week and not so for the nat'l, though I can work for the nat'l during the week if low on pvt work (a rarity).
Weekend work
I am trying to locate transcriptionists who have to work every weekend, unless the physician is out of town (for which you are not notified).  I am trying to figure out how to get a weekend off without being penalized (which some companies penalize you for missing any work unless you are dead - those are the exact words one company that I work for used).  I have not had a weekend off in two years.  How long does one have to endure this kind of treatment by employers before you know it is time to move on.  Anyone with answers on how you handled this, I welcome your advice.
Weekend work

I work Tues-Sat normally as this was the time slot my employer needed coverage for.  However, I work for a very flexible company.  They are great.  I really hate the idea of working all day Saturday so they let me break it up over the weekend any way I chose.  I, like most of you, have a family and life outside of work but the good Lord  was smiling on me when he let me become a part of the company I now work for.  They are very flexible and will really work with you on schedules without penalizing you if you need time off for pretty much any reason as long as you give them warning that you need to be off as well as make up your hours.  I think the bottom line out there is that you are going to be treated as a professional if you behave as a professional (at least in my experience).  Anyway, my 2 cents worth.  I am finally back with a company that allows me to produce quality work and feel like I am a person and not a drone as well as being compensated as I should be with my transcription experience.

I work OT about every other weekend.
I only do it though because I need the money right now (hoping to buy a house soon). Otherwise, I would take my two days off as I really need them to recuperate and spend time with the family.
I work every weekend, some more than others - sm
but I have not had a weekend totally off in over a year. My 2 doctors tend to dictate late Friday night and it is due back in by 8 Monday morning, so I don't have much of a choice unless I get someone to cover for me. I just gave up an account as it was too erratic, feast or famine, and I just could not juggle 140 minutes a day and get it all done in TAT. But just took on a new account that is consistent and 3 of us will be on instead of me handling all by myself, so that will give me some extra $$$ I desperately need and more structure in my work week...and probably more weekend work unfortunately. Sometimes I put in 20 hours or more over the weekend, crazy.
I work almost every weekend, but I don't mind so much. sm

I don't have a husband or kids, and I'd rather work and let others be off, if possible.   It would be different if I worked in an office every weekend, but somehow, working at home, it doesn't seem so bad.  I can get up early, get my work done, and have most of the day left if I want to do something.

Sorry that you're unhappy with it.  Just part of the business, I guess.

So you do work in other locations during the weekend..SM
allowing you to get a work shift in while being gone from home? I suppose you would have to be somewhere with an internet connection, obviously, and bring your foot pedal, also. This sounds kind of appealing. Do you do this in hotel rooms? I'm not sure I'd be places where there is a wifi connection, would be my problem. Using the full-size extra keyboard is a good idea. That's definitely something I'd do. Thanks for the tip. I've never had a laptop so I didn't think about that.
I don't think DW is not looking to hire anyone but is looking for work herself - nm
x
Are you getting extra for weekend work and holidays.
:
wants to work weekends and they need weekend coverage.
Most companies now are going a Tu-Sa shift of Sun-Thu.   Clinic work usually is M-F.
Amphion does not require weekend work. sm
Set your own schedule.  No holidays or weekends required.  Good pay, good people, good accounts.
I have that very situation exactly, except I work a weekend every 8 weeks.
x
6-hour day, weekend work by choice, sm
optional access to group health ins even if I have to pay total premium, a company that understands what "IC" really means, a company that refuses to offshore US transcription, pay by gross line, pay based on quality and experience and no less than 9 cpl, but most of all,
CLEAR DICTATION!!

There are companies out there who do not require weekend work...sm
I have two right now that don't, but I can if I want to which means more work for me on Monday. So, sometimes I work and sometimes I don't. It is nice. I'm an IC.
Or after a boring weekend when working at a hospital someone asks "How was your weekend?" and

I work for a company that will NOT hire editors:
The feeling there is that if you don't know your stuff, you're OUT. I don't know how many people have come and gone, but I've been on the same team for about 5 years now, so she's doing something right in her hiring.
Or why not hire an IC to work on the account under you? You found it
and it is your reputation and bidding that sealed the account, why not ask IC's to BID on it. You might find somebody who loves derm work and wants the money. Even if you only make 1-2 cpl over your IC it adds up.
After finally switching my schedule to all weekend, every weekend
Seems like that's the only way I could get work with my MTSO. So, I do it. I am to the point where I will pretty much jump if they say hop,so I can feed my family. I would say it's sad, but I am actually glad to even have work and a decent check again. I am giving up a lot working every single weekend and days at the end and beginning of the week, but its daily work!
I was thinking about this situation with companies that hire people and then there is no work. When
you think about that, that is about as low as anyone can get to just run people out of work for whatever reason when people need money to live, pay bills, support children and feed them, etc. When you really think about that, people's lives hinge on their income and as far as I am concerned, that is the worst thing any company can due to the people that work for them. That is how I feel today because I have been out of work and scrounging for lines and I am disgusted with the whole business. I hope that companies will soon wake up and stop doing this to people. It is disgusting.
Great company but like everyone else they over hire. Haven't had work since before Christmas *sm
because it is a slow time and I refuse to get up at 4:00 a.m. to beat someone else to it.  I am in the process of obtaining a second and third account and am going to start looking out for myself from now on.  I now understand why there is such a turnaround with MTs and companies - seems like the companies overhire and then the MT has to look elsewhere - they work at the new company for awhile until they find that they have now over hired and then they look elsewhere.   I have been with MDI for a few years and I plan to stay there but I am going to take on another job or even two so I do not sit idle when times are slow.
Okay, quit bragging and hire someone then. Lots of people need work. nm
.
Does anyone know of companies that hire for physical thearpy work? Many years experience.
nm
hire people with solid longstanding work background with good references; like myself

What is per diem? nm
nm
per Diem
What exactly is per Diem?  Thanks!!!
per diem
Hello:  What is a per diem medical transcriptionist?  Is this relatively the same as an IC?  Thanks in advance for any info.
To me pe diem is ......
Per diem, or "per day," is a Latin phrase meaning specific amount of money an organization allows an individual to spend per day so it might mean like on a salary and you get paid no matter how much work you do???  But it is a specific amount of money you get paid no matter what -- now if it means you have to get 2000 lines per day no matter how  long it takes or do 200 minutes per day no matter how long it takes and you get this much for it -- need to check that out. It is almost like getting paid per report no matter how many lines are on it -- but this is just my way of thinking and could be wrong
Per diem
I am per diem for an account and it's basically I work when they need me, fortunately it's been daily!
Per diem
I have worked this way for some big companies and some were medical and some were other types of corporations. I was an employee at all and received benefits if they chose to include them; sometimes I had to work a certain amount of hours to qualify in a given pay period, sometimes they just wanted me so they gave them to me anyway to keep me from quitting. You are an employee at per diem usually, you just don't know how many hours each day you will work or how many days a week (sometimes you know the days, just not the hours or vice versa). When I transcribe per diem I have set days, like Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 hours each or 4 hours each, or whatever Sometimes the start time is fixed, sometimes it is flexible. For one I can do it from home or from the hospital. For one, I just have a certain amount of minutes to type and I know how long it takes, as does the employer and when I am done I leave. Their system is accountable and knows how long I was there, how much got typed and how much to pay me. Sometimes per diems have a guaranteed minimum salary too. That is nice. It all just depends on what you work out at your interview. One hospital I know will pay air fare, hotel fees, taxis, and a higher than usual hourly rate or line rate for a couple people to fly in when they are backlogged. They do this because those people have both worked there for a long time before they moved to other cities and they are "worth it" because they know the system, are excellent CMTs, etc. and will produce massive amounts of work in short time frames and they don't have to be proofread or whatever. I hope this is not too long! I like it that way. It is like working for Ghost Busters! We could start our own company and call it Backlog Busters!
I am currently working all weekend every weekend.
I get so burnt out although I do have work on the weekends, and then there is nobody home or friends to do things with during the week because they are all working or at school. I really dislike this schedule a lot. Plus I never get to do anything on the weekends or plan for anything while everyone else is off. I wouldn't mind 1 day every weekend but 2 days plus Friday is really doing me in. Good luck to you whatever you decide. Do think long-term, because when I decided to go for this kind of schedule, I did not consider the repercussions of long-term every weekend day and Friday.
My people skills are just fine. I just want to hire people who want to work.
I've not been ugly, I've asked questions, legitimate ones.  Please tell me what is wrong with that.  This site is not just for MTs, it is for QA Editors, Supervisors, Service Owners, there's even sections for Billers, Coders, and Nurses.
per diem and on call in job ads
When a hospital places an ad for an "on call" transcriptionist, what exactly does that mean? Does it mean they can call you up at 3:00 a.m. to come in for an emergency report?? And per diem means you just come on for a job here and there, right? It isn't regular work?

I am sorry if these are dumb questions. I'm new. Thanks for your input.
per diem could be an employee

The per diem I am familiar with meant as needed.  For instance, if there was a vacation or if someone was ill, the per diem employee filled in.  Hope this helps.

You're defining PRN - per diem is per day. nm
.
Also, per diem, I believe means as needed.
:)
per diem is basically *as needed*, nm
nm
Per diem means "per day." nm
nm
No benefits either being per diem but definitely ask about the average hours per month you can....

expect to work. Most per diems are only allowed to work a certain number of hours per week.

Also, find out how much "notice" you will get for working; i.e., will they call you a day or two in advance, or call you the day they want you to work?

The bright side of per diem is that usually a hospital will hire the per diems if they are interested in a full time job before posting elsewhere. It's your foot in the door so to speak.

they don't REFUSE to hire new MT's. They REFUSE to hire them at 6-8 cents per line.

mostly because you can now hire experienced MT's at 6-8 cpl. In the near future, you will be able to hire experienced MT's at 5 cpl. Then people will start getting out of this business and new people will stop trying to get in. I had a job opening and asked people to bid what they wanted per line. One very smart young lady was a new grad and bid 3 cpl. I hired her a year and a half ago, she has been terrific! and I was willing to spend my time training her because a) time is money and she saved me money so I could spend my time and b) she had definite potential!. In another six months, she will be the MT with 2 years experience applying for jobs. AND she will get them because she will test well and essentially "bought" her experience. So use Economics 101...

Yup, every weekend
I do cause I'm a single mom and I don't have the kids on the weekend.  So every weekend is when I do most of my work (at least half) - without interruption and I like it.  Can't get enough hours in during the week!
what's everyone doing this weekend?

every weekend here
Not usually a lot though, and my TAT is higher on weekends - anything turned in Friday is not due in until Sunday evening, so it is not too bad.
Weekend
I work every weekend of every month.
What's everyone doing this weekend?
