How astute to check the turnover time, hadn't thought

of that. But, you're right, no way that's a coincidence, and your surety on this is confirmation. I'm sorry for you--that's a huge decrease in your lines. Good luck in your search for something better.

I hadn't even thought of that!
I'm going to call her tonight. Thanks.
Hmm. I hadn't thought about that. Thanks
I can see I need to dig a little deeper as to what I need!
Ooooh! I hadn't thought of that!
But unfortunately, nothing anyone says is going to change their ways.
hadn't thought of that either! Good for you! nm
nm
No, I hadn't thought of this. How does a person break into this?
Would this be stuff that was done by voice recognition and then needs a human to screen through it?  Do most companies have these types of jobs?
Oh Yeah, me too! I love the Queen! I hadn't thought of her, but she'd be great. nm

Maybe so. I hadn't heard it in a long time, but

it could be due to the high turnover,
miserable platform, and low pay on the VR programs, and just generalized problems in the company, couldn't it?
There are companies like that, but there is no turnover
with them, so no need to hire new  MTs.   I work for a mid-sized company.   They have stable accounts and are comfortable with things and not wanting to go after new accounts.
I never even thought about that! I'll definitely check that out. Thanks!

This must be your first time here. Check

I thought it was just me for the longest time
About 8 to 10 years ago, it was a piece of cake to make OVER 300 lines per hour after doing a bunch of doctors I'd gotten used to over a few weeks/months (depending on the difficulty of the docs).

For the past 2+ years, no matter where I work (and I've worked for a few), I'm finding that it's been a struggle to reach 200 lines (let along over 300!) an hour ... and I'm noticing that on message boards nowadays, it's considered average to transcribe 150-175 lines an hour (?).... Wow. Just wow. Didn't that used to be considered "newbie" range? Or am I mistaken?

Even when I mention to potential employers/MTSOs that my goal is to reach at least 300 lines per hour, they always sound taken aback or have a hesitancy in their voices as far as that being even a possibility!

I'm making 20% to 30% less than I did as a newbie 15 years ago. Now I know I'm getting older and perhaps slowing down, but I've been noticing line counts diminishing with using these proprietary programs these companies use for quite a while now.

I agree with hayseed and the OP of this thread.
It's 12:00 noon, time for a line check.

I f you are working at the time you want to check the lines, hit F9
xx
Not at all. Just time for a reality check, dear.

How reliable can they be if you still have to check their work after all this time? Just getting th
does not make them reliable.
Need to vent... (If you have time to kill, check it out!)

I am so frustrated right now I could just scream!  If nobody even makes it to the end of this I will understand, but I'm just livid.

First of all, I was due my paycheck on the 15th.  I work for a small MTSO, and our checks are frequently late at the end of the month.  (The checks due the last day of the month usually get paid sometime during the first week.  I'm used to that now.) But the paycheck on the 15th is consistently on time.  Our mortgage is due on the 1st with a grace until the 15th.  With the terrible economy and struggling like we tend to do, we usually pay on the 15th.  We save half our checks from the 1st week of the month then pay the mortgage when we both get paid on the 15th so that we don't have to take the huge mortgage hit out of one paycheck but rather spread it out over two.  (Hope that makes sense.)  Well, I was told on Monday that we would PROBABLY be paid by FRIDAY, but that it's not for sure.  Since I won't have my check, and we will be paying after the 15th, we will get a $75 late fee on our mortgage.  Is it too much to expect to be paid ON TIME?

It gets better.  The very next day after this news, my MTSO emailed me saying that a client was missing 5 patient reports.  She kind of went "high and right" on me saying that she didn't have them, the client didn't have them, I didn't send them, where are they, etc.  I was calm, knowing that I didn't make that mistake.  I went back and found the files.  I sent the files.  I then went back and searched my email until I found the email that contained the missing files.  I forwarded the email in its entirety, complete with headers showing the time and date it was sent, and put in the email what basically amounted to, "The original email contained 20 files, 7 of which were for other clients and 13 of which were from XYZ Ortho.  Since the other clients never complained of missing files, and since XYZ Ortho isn't complaining about the other 8 files, I am confident that you sent the files on to XYZ Ortho and they just lost them."  (Which this client has done over the last four years, losing files that have been sent and then blaming us.) I finished with, "I have forwarded the original email so that you can use this to show the client that the problem is not with their Transcriptionist - don't let them blame us!"

I graciously did not point out what I really wanted to point out, which was that I sent my boss the files like I do every morning.  If the client lost their files, there is still no reason why my boss shouldn't have been able to pull them up from her computer!

The next day, however, I get a pissy email saying "I never got your original email.  I searched my computer and I searched my computer and the files are not there.  You will have to get a more reliable ISP, because I'm not getting your email.... " She went on to blame me for the problem in SPITE of the fact that I already pointed out that the problem could not possibly have been with me.

Now I'm really cheesed, because either she's just plain dense or she thinks I'm just plain dense.  I wrote back reiterating that I just forwarded her the original email.  She's only missing FIVE files.  The original email contained TWENTY files for DIFFERENT clients (including one that is VERY picky about getting their files back in less than 24 hours -- if they hadn't gotten their files I would have heard about it weeks ago! ).  I told her that why she can't find the five missing files on her computer or in her email is obviously a problem on HER end, but considering that my other clients aren't missing anything and the problem client is only missing a few of the files, the problem clearly is not with me.  I sent the files.  The files were recieved.  What happened next, either with her or with the client, is not something I can control.

The next day I get an email that said, "Found the problem.  Thanks."

WHAT?  She accuses me of losing files, not sending files, put it on me and then when it's pointed out that she's the one who did something wrong there's no "Sorry I blamed you, it was my fault."  I'm telling you, I am HOT.

This on top of the fact that I'm not getting paid is the reason why I am currently interviewing for a work-primarily-from-home analyst position with a local company.  I really expect professionalism, and this isn't it!

If you've made it this far, you deserve a hug.    Thanks for listening!

Have you thought about putting her in daycare only part time?
I don't know if you are able to set your own hours or not, but if you can put her in daycare for 4 or so hours a day and then work before she gets up in the morning and/or after she goes to bed at night that might be a viable option. She would get the benefit of socialization in daycare, you would get some solid, uninterrupted work time and you would still get to spend a good part of the day with her. Just a thought. When my daughter was 18 months old I began working part-time in the outside world and I truly felt I had the best of both worlds, because she really enjoyed daycare and got to socialize, and I enjoyed my time being productive away from the house and I didn't feel like I was away from her for too long. Best wishes to you and your family!
nevermind. I found it, I thought the date/time
button was for actual date and time, not the settings of the footpedal to rewind, play and fastforward. The achives of MTstars helped me figure that out!
And all this time I thought the bottom line was patient care. nm
nm
I did try the Belkin and I thought it was working but the first time I let up on my foot pedal
it just stopped and froze up my computer. I tried all of the COM ports I could think of. Today, I ordered the Dynex adapter which is the other adapter that Escription recommends and I'm going to try that. I am not giving up. I do hope that in version 8 of Editscript that really do make the foot pedals USB and get into this century. It's almost impossible to find new computers that have the serial ports on them anymore. I will update you on this Dynex adapter when I try it out now. So, for the time being, I am packing along my little portable computer when I travel. It's pretty small but it's just having to bubble wrap the flat monitor that is a pain. At least, I get to work and play. It'd just be nice if I could take my laptop instead..
I thought there was one to cook in crockpot. Don't have time to do the stove thing today but than

I hadn't heard of her either ...
I'll try to Google her (gee, that sounds awful LOL). My roomie and I are going to a Joyce Meyer event in June, we can't wait!
Hadn't put it into that perspective but sm
Mr. and Mrs. Cooke were HORRIBLE.

They didn't know even the basic stuff about ranching, even though they were all given instructions/training before they were put on the ranch.

I don't blame the cowboys in the way they left at all.

Mrs. Cooke was the one stirring up trouble, NOT Maura. There was a lot of double talking going on and it wasn't the cowboys. The cowboys worked for them, they weren't their slaves.

So the cowboys didn't round up the goats a couple times. Big whoop. Who in their right mind would leave food and dirty dishes out for EIGHT DAYS after a party??

Horse manure wasn't the only thing attracting the millions of flies. ICK!
No I hadn't heard of them...sm
The only thing I am familiar with is the Expanders such as Smartype which has a word completion aspect to it. I am not familiar with those you mentioned. Something to look into I guess.

Oh, I hope you''re right. Hadn't heard it yet.
These kind of stories just wrench at my heart.   I think I might have seen that little white dog trying to get on a bus when it was happening.  I hadn't seen the little boy, but that just stayed with me.  I hope they can all be reunited with their families.
Thanks for the reply. I hadn't assumed anything, just asked. nm

Aw, you don't have to be a "pothead" to smoke pot at one concert. I hadn't smoked for 30
and haven't since, but they passed joints around at that concert and I toked, and it was fun. My brain is far from lame. :)
Glad someone found humor in that question because I hadn't....until now)

I hadn't heard about a weight "rule" either...interesting

I can't remember where I heard the 6 month thing at the moment.  I don't know if all the SPCAs are the same, but at this one you can adopt a cat for $50, but that includes at least some shots, "fixing" if you go to one of their participating vets, and a micro chip.

I guess we'll stay home and eat Ramen. Hadn't though about food going up too.

had a similar issue with TWC and they had done some upgrades and the modem I had was no longer compatible.  The tech knew what the problem was the minute he saw the modem, only it took me about 3 months and threatening to cancel for them to get out here.
FYI I HAVE reference books, but in case you hadn't noticed, thing change a lot faster than BOOKS
I was simply asking for suggestions of other places on line that I might look for the latest info, especially considering that my work is on the internet, what the hell is wrong with trying to be more productive and efficient?!?! Good Grief!!
No brainer here. Stop payment on first check before you issue 2nd check.

I have had a check bounce over a boo-boo in the check book...NOT A DEADBEAT!!

DID you check with Social Security& does your son receive a check???

Go to SSA.gov and research the payee options.  You may have to use the search engine, but your answer to this particular issue should be there.

I am disabled and while my kids were minors, I had to fill out a form each year on how I, as the payee spent each and every penny of the money they received.  I don't see how his mother can justify how she spent his money for things that you normally would pay.

That said, he is getting Social Security right?  Is your son receiving a dependent check?  Under law, if a parent is disabled and has minor children, each and every one of those children also receive a check until they turn 18 or graduate from high school, which ever comes first.

The check is a percentage of your husbands, so for 800.00, your son should receive at least 350.00.  If you have not been getting this, they would pro-rate it back to when your husbands disability started and that in itself, could solve a lot of your financial problems.  You can also find this out on their website,  HTH

no - don't check out wildblue. check out hughesnet. sm
i was on wildblue. i absolutely HATED it. i paid $400 for install and equipment and bill was $51.51 a month for smallest plan. no bills, had to be direct debit from credit card or bank. wasn't a lot faster than dial up and i frequently went over my download limit so i had to upgrade to the $80/mo plan. speed was no faster on their "fastest plan". they had a 1-yr contract and only 1-yr warranty. well 20 days (kid you not) out of warranty my tria (the eye on the dish) went out and it cost me a total of $275 for replacement and tech call (had to wait a week and a half before tech could come and then he no showed and rescheduled for the next day stating he didn't have the equipment he needed to fix me and the repair order had been in for over a week by that time. no call to say he wasn't coming either, just no showed). they TRIED to sell me the entire package all over again to get me locked into another 1-yr contract and i declined. it was best in their book so your warranty and equipment would be "new". i had to tell them for 5 months to change which credit card to debit from, never could get it right. had to tell them for 3 months when my phone number changed. i could not wait until the day my 1-yr contract was over. have heard really good things about hughesnet. i think it is a tad more a month, but supposedly a lot faster than wildblue and not near as many problems from what i have heard from others. wildblue was down for an entire week at one point throughout the year i was on it. always got lost signals and page cannot be found multiple, multiple times throughout the day. i used wildblue with VPN (with transtech) and could not keep a connection enough to get a decent line count as i was dropping signals too much and it did slow it way down. i finally got clinic work rather than acute care where time and speed wasn't a factor. research message boards for complaints about wildblue and hughesnet before deciding. also hughesnet i think told me a 2-yr warranty rather than only the 1-yr with wildblue.

Working full time at home with small children is hard but part time works great
is almost impossible. You will either have to work when your spouse is home or for only a few hours during the day and then more when they are asleep. I work part time at home and my kids (2&5 now) have done very, very well. They are great kids, very well behaved, don't get into much. I stop working to check on them/give them some attention every hour or so while I work (5 hours each afternoon or so) and they get all my attention in the morning and at night. It has worked out beautifully for us.
Yeah, our choc. lab does that from time to time - makes it interesting!- nm

Cannot legally require you to commit time to them as an employee and then not pay you for that time.

full-time in office/ part-time at home
I currently work full-time in a physician's office and have started part-time online. My hope is to eventually go full-time online; however that will be done the road for a single mom with a son in college. My suggestion would be try to type part-time for a MTSO and see how that goes i.e work and money with a decision down the road for ultimately being home all the time. A guaranteed paycheck is always a necessity for me. Hope this helps.
I work part-time hours with full-time pay...
I made over 26,000 this year...
I work a full time and a part time, but not sure about 2 full-time...
My hubbie is disabled and I am the only one in my family working also, so I fully understand. You will not have a day off at all working 2 full-time as that is going to be the only way you will get in all your hours. I work one job in the mornings from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 5 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and do have off one day a week, but if I had to get in the extra 15 hours to make the other job full-time I am not sure how I would do that other than lose my only day off. Also, make sure you have your account specifics in front of you at all times because you will get yourself confused as to who is what and having notes will help in that area. Good luck to you, as it is possible, but forget about your house being clean, having any social life, etc. Feel free to email me personally if you just need someone to talk to, as I have been where you are and still am.
Maybe they will. Give it time. It takes time to set up links.
