I looked up their web site and posted under complaints

Posted By: I got two responses from them on 2006-01-25

Whether they do anything or not is another thing, but just MAYBE if they get enough complaints, they might. I suggested that when they go out to check out a facility they actually LISTEN to some of the dictation these foreigners are putting out. I told them I had many years of experience but it was becoming almost impossible for me to do my job because of them. I decided it would not hurt and like I said, just MAYBE somebody will start taking notice.

I looked at the web site.
Looks inviting and I might look into it more later. My dh is worried about me for worrying too much about this and wants me to rest. LOL. I was just wondering if they always have work available and how flexible they are. My old job said we had a 12 hour work window to get production in then they changed their minds on that and we have to get it all in 8 hours and forget to tell you the new policy until your already in trouble. I can get up to 1500 to 1700 in 8 hours if I stay focused but with the end of my pregnancy it was hard with back pain, rib pain and I was making what I thought was production which was a little over 1100 a day to get their 1000 a day by their figuring “sigh”

I am due 9/25 and am taking 6 weeks maternity leave. I thought I would look into something then as now I would hate to get hired on somewhere then take maternity leave 3 weeks later KWIM.
Looked at the info on law firm site and
it looks like all the platforms are involved in this. Anyone heard from the law firm as to what is going on at present with the class action and how long it takes to get the thing moved to NJ and in process?
I looked around the USMLSU site but didn't see much...nm

There was a response posted on this site--sm
last week saying the resume posting site was being overhauled and it would be back up soon. Guess it is not done yet.
Whoever posted the link for the Geek site...THANK YOU

You don't know how hard it is to shop for my husband!  I've never seen that site before, but I found at least THREE things I could buy him for Christmas!  It's a miracle.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

If you posted the name of that "site" would you then get banned from this site?

I look on there and I did mine yesterday. Where can I see it. I did not come up with the list of resumes that seems to end in August.

Well, I looked & looked but did not find it. Maybe tomorrow!

Complaints
Human responses states that they do not know of many problems because only isolated complaints are coming in.  Everyone with complaints needs to contact HR and follow it up with an Employee Complaint form found on the MQ QNET web site.
I have ATT/SBC DSL and have no complaints.

I have had on one problem with it.  For about a week, I would lose my connection for a few minutes everytime the telephone would ring.  I eventually called them and they corrected the problem the same day I called.  Other than that it has been perfect, nice customer service.

I had Earthlink previously and hated it.  Customer service was horrible, foreigners everytime I called, which was often.

As I go. That is the only way. No complaints so far.

With all the complaints sm

about not making enough money (and I agree that wages are getting really bad), how many folks that are complaining have less than 5 years experience.  Five years is the minimum, in my opinion, that ANYONE should have before attempting to do any kind of MT at home.  It takes at least that amount of time to feel comfortable with acute care.  Even after five years, when you start working at home, by yourself, isolated from other MTs, it is very difficult.

Years ago, it use to be  mandatory you had 5 years in-house before a national or anyone else would hire you to work at home.

The "troublemakers" in this industry are the so-called schools who have come on the scene making big promises about huge yearly incomes after 3-6 months training!  It takes years and years of active MT to be able to feel comfortable working at home and be comfortable with all or nearly all work types.

The attitude of not wanting to do OPs or other type reports, or ESLs or bad dictators, etc. etc is one of the things killing our credibility..  This is not about PRODUCTION!   This is about patient care!

If an MT wants to only do what suits that MT, i.e. certain work types to make more money, then the person is in the wrong business.  I am sure I am going to get flamed over this, but I don't care.  I am sick to death of hearing the complaining about dictators, job types, work hours, etc.  If you are a MT, especially IC, you work when the work is there, you get all kinds of stuff and you take the good with the bad and you work long hours.  Its a part of the job!

If you have less than five years experience and you are just starting to work at home, coming out of in-house setting, then you are a BEGINNING IC and you will be offered bottom wages.  But, if you prove yourself, hopefully, eventually your employer will pay you more.  If that employer does not, then you can go to another employer, with your experience and try to get more pay.  If you think coming out of school and demanding top wages or working 3-4 years, esepcially NOT in acute care and getting top wages is possible, it is NOT.

I am also sick of those knocking those of us who have years and years of experience doing what I call "hard time" in this business.  We have done it, we leraned our trade and we can make the money.  You have to come up the same way.

Now I will sit back and wait for the fall-out, I am sure it will happen!

I thought the complaints were what the
MTSOs were paying their MTs or "MLSs"; not what THEY were charging.  Most people have not known what MTSOs are charging any account.  Again, the problem has been the pay received by the MTs.  So you see, if MQ is charging 20 cpl and paying their MTs what, 8 to 11 cpl; seems to me MQ or any other MTSO charging those rates would have room to increase the pay to those who are making money for them, don't you think???
And they don't hammer you with complaints (sm)

because you typed "an" instead of "and"?

Guess I worked for some real b*****.

My husband is hot !!- No complaints!
Now my first husband was another story. . . .
So far, I have had no complaints on my end or from anyone I am talking to. nm

Thx for the link, but I noticed this on their 'About Us' page:
"It was established to help companies meet government compliance requirements and safeguard corporate integrity."
They note on another page that they were established to assist companies handle complaints and compliance issues.
I wonder if there is a site that lists contacts that employees can go to with violations; I'm sure that the Fed Govt has departments for different violations where employees can go.
I thought that Medicare and Medicaid used to have a program similar to the IRS' program wherein they reward people who bring violations to their attention by giving them a percentage portion of the amount recovered, including fines (which are STEEP for companies who get caught violating laws and regs.)
Just curious. Would love to have contact info for reporting different issues that they would also assist the 'little guy' right wrongs against them...

relative newbie, but no complaints here

I started out brand spanking new in October 2007 working at home.   I hadn't even finished my on line program yet, but I needed to pay the mortgage.  I got very lucky to find a company fairly quickly that would hire newbies.  Pay sucked, but I knew that going in.  I didn't know how bad it sucked at the time - I was just ecstatic to have a job.

I knew then and I know now that I'm never going to get rich in this profession.  I knew at the very beginning that I was not going to make a lot of money right away.  I didn't.  I was lucky if I averaged $5 an hour.  I also knew that I had to stick with it and get my experience in with a company that was willing to work with me and then I could move on to another, better paying job when I was a little more comfortable.  I did a lot of research about this going in and if there was a company or an on line school that promised a lot of money right off the bat, I skipped right by that one.  I'm sensible enough to know that's a load of horse hockey.

I love what I do.  For the most part I enjoy the posters on this forum.  Even the Negative Nancys.  That just makes me work that much harder to do well so I can prove to myself that it can be done and I haven't made a mistake in learning how to do this.

As to starting a separate positive only forum/board. It can be done.  It's fairly easy, as a matter of fact - and free.   It would be separate from MT Stars, which means this thread and/or message is probably going to get poofed.

I'm happy to set it up, though, if y'all are serious.  Feel free to e mail me.

I'm in the NE, my friends and coworkers are in the NE, and these constant complaints are just bog
There is always work as long as one isn't a "queen".  The only MTs who are running out of work refuse back-up accounts, won't type outside of their "box" - i.e. specific hours like 9 am to 11 am, and won't work any daily variation without bonuses dangled in front of them.  Otherwise, all of us are fine - hustling, busy, learning new accounts and basically working!!  The offices all have phone #s and real live people answer the phones, etc. The drama these 2 or 3 ladies daily report on just doesn't exist.  For months, one was always screaming the Indians were getting her work. She just KNEW it was the Indians - no other explanation. Well, she found that was wrong and never mentioned a word of apology or clarification. Then it was VR taking all her work, or the phantom cherry pickers.  Its simply the talented MTs who are learning back-up accounts and learning them well!  But to hear these women rag on, you'd think it was doom and gloom, which just ain't so!
Listen dont believe that. There are a lot more than isolated complaints. MQ wants you to think that.
You know, the old you are the only one BS they give. Dont believe they are isolated for one minute. They lie to put you off the track that way. That is the MQ WAY.
Checked the BBB and got "unstatisfactory for not responding to complaints"
In my contract, it states that if I don't finish out the two weeks after giving notice, that they will not pay the last check (which is basically everything I have made!)... total it is only about 500.00 for the two months.  BBB is a good idea though.  I think I'll do that.  I know this has happened to other people, and its SO frustrating because this was my first job.  They are preying on new grads, and now I don't have a job!  At least I got some practice and got better though.
oops "WERE" numerous complaints...lol

Complaints about hard work solve the problem?
Not at my office.  It's all for one and one for all.  I have never complained of course.  Have you?

File complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, your state attorney general, and the SM

state attorney general for the state The VLC is located in.  I happened to check it out and they have offices in Niagara Falls, NY and in Ontario.  Be sure to forward copies of every thing your file to them.  You can fill online complaint forms at the FTC website and the NY Attorney General's website.  Print out copies of these forms and mail copies of them after you fill them out to the school with a letter basically stating that you have reported them to these agencies and they will be intervening for you on this matter.

I also like the idea of putting cc's on your correspondence to a local news reporter.  And call them every single day until they are tired of hearing from you!

Good Luck!

Several companies still train on site. In fact, we are piloting an on-site training sm
program, where everyone would come in to the Keystrokes office to train for 1 or 2 weeks. We have a large training room and feel that this may be a way to cover all aspects of an account, be right there to answer questions as they come up and have one-on-one contact.

It will be optional at this point and may not be more effective as remote training, but some people have expressed that they miss the training that you get when you start at a hospital.

We are trying to bridge that gap between working in-house somewhere and working at home.

It may seem out-dated in many ways, but sometimes going back to basics is a good step to take!
I have noticed sometimes I will try to get into a web site and that site will freeze up and I dont

know if I have too many screens opened up and minimized or what. I tried to open a website sent by email and froze up the email screen. Not sure what I am doing.

I subscribe to another web site and within the boards on this site they have

Would anybody be interested if adminstrators would allow us to have this type of board or even put it on the main board.  Like on this other board they tell you to go to a certain web site for a coupon for 20% off Barnes and Noble or when Target has reduced prices on seasonal things.  Anybody got ideas or bargains they would like to share to save money?   We could call it the MT Stars penny-pinchers board.

I don't think he looked
like a drug addict. It is just a look. I loved his singing and cannot get that song "Trees" out of my head. He did not look too disappointed when he did not get selected, perhaps cuz he knew he is creating his own success on his own.
I have looked.
If you're offended, don't read it. It's great that your job is going so well. Mine isn't. They overhired yet again. We're all either out of work or bouncing from one account to another. Why should I lose my house and have my kids go without Christmas because their management is too ignorant to properly staff? I would be making more money at Burger King because I'm not even getting minimum wage now. Don't even tell me it's because I'm not a good MT. I got 100% on my last QA, I do ESLs, I do acute and clinic. Ah, but that's what it's like around here. Any time someone is down, people kick them down further by blaming the victim of bad management. I am worth at least 3x minimum wage and then some, but how am I supposed to quit my job 10 days before Christmas?
We looked into it
I am at a small company and we looked into the Fusion Voice, but they wanted something like $18,000 to start us off.  For a small company, no way!  They wanted us to start off with everything new.  We already were using DVI, but they wouldn't or didn't want to, just license the software for us to use on the DVI system.  I also tried to find people that had it, but it does not seem to be a popular system as compared to others.  Why I don't know.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I just looked under the bed....not there! nm

I looked into it a little bit...(sm)
And while I think it is probably legit, they are mostly surveys that either get your name into some type of sweepstakes, or you would have to do an awful lot of them to make any money. I could be wrong, so if anyone else out there is making decent money off these, please correct me...

Yes, I looked at those :)
I am going to apply to TRS and Webmedx tonight, as well as put my resume up on the board. I have a friend at those places and she recommended them to me. TY!!
Just looked...
...at their website...sounds very interesting!  What has your experience been with them?  How much do they charge you for advances?
I looked over it
mainly I was wondering if there were any other programs that could do it (for cheaper :O))

I reckon I'll have to save my pennies! :)
I have looked into this, but . .

In my part of the country:

The training is 2 years.  You must pass with 95% accuracy these tests:   225 wpm 2-voice testimony, 200 wpm jury charge and 180 wpm literary.  Must do 40 hours of actual writing time during internship and submit 40 pages of transcript and a written narrative to get your degree.

Also, you must invest in your own stenography equipment, $2,000+ (could go quite a bit higher depending on equipment).

Then you must do 2 years with a legal group.

Then you can apply for a courthouse job after that (that's how my courthouse in a decently large city does it).

Then after you do 2 years of courthouse experience, the closed captioning company will take your application for consideration of hiring and "transitioning."

Closed capitioning for live capitioning (news, sports, etc.) I am pretty sure those people can work at home.

But if you want to do movies, etc., that is done in house.  At least in my neck of the woods this is how they do it and what I was told by someone at the company over the phone.

I doubt that you can go straight into closed captioning from school--I am pretty sure that they want you to have pretty much courtroom experience and be pretty well versed with the steno machine.

If you can make it, it seems like a pretty lucrative career.  I looked into it many years ago and went into med transcription instead.  Could kick myself now.

Have had a couple friends who were court reporters, the machine seems it would take quite a while to master with any efficiency.  You know, it reminds me of the alpha-hand I took many many years ago.  But again, you would have to practice, practice, practice, and really enjoy what you are working towards.

I just interviewed last week with a court reporting school and then with the local college to check out their court reporting course.  The court reporting school said as long as you get up to the 225 per minute speed, you can finish a little early, about 18 months. But not so with my local college, you must do the entire 2 years and classes only start once a year.

Interestingly, I was told there is an 80% drop-out rate.  It is pretty tough going.

I changed my mind about going this route, wasn't interested in the courthouse work, wanted to go straight to closed capitioning, but it sounds as though that is not possible.  I don't have 6 years to spend for school and experience.

Then I have been reading on the internet that they are starting to get rid of the court reporters in a couple states and replacement them with the audio/video recorders that the courthouses already have in place.  So that doesn't sound to good to me.  Not sure how accurate that method would be for record keeping, but we all know with offshoring has done to the quality/accuracy of medical reports.

Still thinking of what I should do instead now.

Good luck to you.  Again, this is in my neck of the woods, could be different where you are.

I looked into doing this myself - sm
I have decided againist it for a number of reasons.  First, I would be repeating a lot of subjects I already took for MT 10 years ago.  Second, the pay around where I live is about HALF of what I currently make as an MT.  Third, and the real decider for me, is that after I complete MA school I would be qualified as an MT, which is exactly what I am trying to get away from - argh!!  Nah, this is not for me.
Hugs to you! I looked everywhere.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never looked at that way, but maybe that's just why it works for me.
nm
HAH!! I need some sleep - I looked right over it..
x
Well let's see, 216 so far have looked at the message
and only 3 of you are complaining so I guess YOU are out numbered.  Go get a sense of humor.
Thanks for the info. We have actually looked
in the Destin area too. It is just so beautiful there. I would love to live by the beach. I would be there everyday. My husband actually hates living near the water and said he never would. Now it is me dragging my feet. I love the newness about it, etc., but I hate to leave my family, especially my mom. I am really all she has here. She can take care of herself, but the emotional part you know. I have actually lived across the street from her for the past 7 years. She has already come to terms with us moving, but not to another state! I have lived in Houston my whole life and actually have only been out of Texas once. My kids have had her there their whole lives. They have been surrounded by family, and that has always been very important to me since I did not have that growing up. When we move, we will not know anyone. I guess it is just pretty scary. At least we will be moving to a great area though. Thanks for all the help.
I have looked at a lot of those photos before and I
thinking maybe it had something to do with the type - brand/style implant, or the amount of fat the breast had to begin with to cover up the shape, or SOMETHING.  But I would just die if I ended up with round things instead of breasts!
