I love Directv. The picture is soooo much clearer than cable. sm

In Reply to: Anyone using DirectTV- what are the pros and cons in comparison to cableTV? nm - MT

Prices in our area are comparable between cable and DirecTV.  If you look at their website, you can pull up comparison charts showing exactly which channels are on each service package.  You can sort them by number or alphabetically and print them out if necessary.

I absolutely LOVE Directv!!!
The picture is clearer than cable. The only time the picture may go out is if there is a severe thunderstorm and even then mine will usually work. I will never switch back to regular cable. We have the HDTV TIVO box and we absolutely love it. If you can get that, do. TIVO is awesome!!!
I love getting really nice picture frames.

My step-mom just got into gardening, so for her birthday I got her a plant encyclopedia that has a picture and description of hundreds of plants.  She loved it!  My best friend bathes in perfume, and she loves getting different scents.

Also, Target has some games that I would absolutely love.  I think it's Monopoly, chess, or a dart board, and they are encased in really nice wood boxes.  If your sisters have families and like to play games, those would be perfect to give as a joint gift for the entire family.

Oh you are right - I should have made it clearer..sm
I was talking about QA.  It is confusing a bit.  I was offered a position with Transcend many months ago but I was scared to jump out and try a new position with a new company, even though my workload with my company was getting less and less.  I was looking for good health insurance, PTO, etc...which Transcend seemed like they had good benefits.   I guess I was just too scared to quit my job that I have been with for sometime to try out a new company.  I guess maybe I had better work on that aspect too.  Thanks for the clarification!
I remember the belts. Dictation was clearer on those than sm
the cell phone and/or digital garbage available today.
My fones have been in my tower for years now as sound is so much clearer. No probs. nm
s
I use Directv
Satellite is all that is available out were we live, but my mom has cable.  I am paying more that she is, but I have a lot more channels.  Her basic cable is more than the basic satellite package, plus they are always changing her package around, usually resulting in fewer available channels in the basic package.  Overall we have been very satisfied.  We have a two-room set up. We have had the services for several years and have had few problems.  I would have the internet too, if it were not so expensive.
I've never used USB phones, but I do plug my jack into the tower for clearer sound rather
s
We have DirecTV and have had no major

issues.  I have internet through the cable company and have had lots of problems.  If cable is through Time Warner they have the worst customer service.  In my area the programming is about the same between cable and satellite, except DirecTV has just added satellite radio.  I don't know if cable charges per each box, but DirecTV does charge $5.00/mo per box after the first one.  The only complaint I have about DirecTV is that we had a big storm and after that we could not get every channel on every box (we have 3).  We're not sure where the problem is, but for them to come out is an automatic $70.00 and then depending on what the issue is there could be more charges.   When my internet goes out there are no service fees, although it is a pain in the rear getting anyone out to fix the problem.

With satellite you may have to put the dish in your yard on on your house where it might be an eye sore, but if the dish is on the house they only have the run the wiring down the house and not in the yard.  If you have cable they have to run it from the pole to your house and they barely bury it, so that you have to have it located every time you need to do any planting/digging.

With satellite when it rains real hard we lose signal, though it doesn't usually last long.  When we used to have cable we might not lose signal entirely, but it would be very fuzy.  Cable really utilizes satellite.  Our local cable company has huge dishes setup and the cable feeds from those.

DirecTV is awesome...sm
We've had it for at least 10 years, maybe 12.  I've loved it the whole time, and now, with TiVo, we are so spoiled that I couldn't go back to regular TV if I tried.  Now, I can watch what I want when I want, by just recording it on TiVo.  Since I work evening shift, I miss most of prime time TV, so TiVo helps me out.  DirecTV has reasonable prices and a wide variety, and coverage here is better than any cable ever was.  Considered changing to Comcast, but they tried to rip us off, so stayed with DirecTV and I have it in the livingroom and my daughter's bedroom so she can watch Disney without driving us nuts!  It's the best thing ever, but do treat yourself to a TiVo unit to record your favorites.  You'll never regret it, and some packages come with it now for free with new customers.
We have had directv for several years.
We own our equipment, but I understand that you do lease it now. The last offer I had from DISH, the equipment would have been leased. I consider it pretty expensive, but we have local channels, 3 movie packages and 2 receivers, so we could reduce that if we had to. We only lose reception during heavy rain. We live out in the boonies where cable does not exist, but DirecTv is less than my mom's cable for what we get. Overall, we are satisfied.
We just switched from Dish to Directv - sm
Dish is slightly cheaper, but we switched for the following reasons; Dish took away our FOX NY channel in November because of some law passed in congress recently (we watch Nascar) which we were paying extra for (we are in VA), we cannot get local channels with Dish unless we upgraded dishs and cut down about 5 trees. I thought it was insane to spend $400+ in order to be able to get local channels. We had them out here a couple years ago to evaluate the tree situation, that was their answer. So we have just been without the locals as they do not come in very well with the antenna. So all our neighbors here have Directv without any problems or cutting down trees, and all with the local channels ($4.99 a month). We have FOX again (local though, DH liked having NY FOX because of the football games). I also did the additional room box, another $4.99 a month which we had not done since living in MD, and it is a nice benefit to have with the kids, DH can watch his football and if a show is on that the kids wanted to watch they can without a bunch of fuss. That doesn't happen too often but it is nice to have that option. I am receiving a $5 rebate for switching right now, plus will be getting an additional $10 off for 10 months once my rebate kicks in, so right now it is $56 a month, but that will jump to $61 when all is said and done. We have the basic pkg and HBO. I liked the guide and ability to scroll the channels better with Dish. But the Directv remote seems much sturdier (plus they replace them free of charge), with Dish we had to pay for any replacements at $70 a pop, we went through a remote every 2 years or so, the last time I said forget this and bought a universal remote for $10, still works great. If trees are not an issue with you then either will work fine, Dish is slighty cheaper but you own the equipment, you buy it. They just lost another channel of mine though that was one of my favories, Court TV, Directv has it though so I am happy. Directv you lease the equipment, hence the free replacements. I think if you only get 1 unit then there is no charge, but with 2 units then it is $5 a month plus the free replacements, etc. We bought our Dish Network dish for $400 with a rebate, so I think we paid $100 for it in the end, have no idea how they do it now though. Happy hunting!
I just signed up for WildBlue thru Directv- sm
There have been no complaints on the board with regards to them; I will know in a few days they come out Saturday to install it. Cannot wait; my modem has been acting nuts in this heat. I believe WildBlue is cheapter than HughesNet too - it was $249 for the equipment (think HughesNet is $600, or at least it used to be)-- got the $70 a month package (they have $50, 70 and 80 I think)--higher the price the faster the connection in theory. At the rate I am going anything would be better.
we have regular TV satellite (Directv) but had ordered - sm
WildBlue for high-speed internet. Apparently they need a totally clear view of the southern sky. I am surrouned by very tall trees. Previous owners had one of those huge TV satellite dishes on a pole (still there but hidden by the trees) and we had Dish Network before. So I am not a happy. I do plan on contacting Verizon and seeing if a petition would help, I live less than 2 miles from a tower/verizon substation so I would think that putting in DSL here (boonies) would not be a hard thing to do. I know plenty of people who want it out here too. Just add it to my list of things to do and no time to do them in.
My telephone service is VOIP, but it s through my cable service, along with my cable internet. .
We have had VOIP for about a year now and I love it. I really can't tell a difference in traditional service, except the price. One of the best calls of my life was to Bellsouth to cancel our service!
Comcast cable has ULD that goes through their cable sm
and there are no limitations. I asked them. They said that you could use the phone 24/7 and it would make no difference. The cable modem has a telephone connection and backup battery in there, all in one unit. If you lose your power, the backup battery kicks in for 12 hours I think they said. I personally was reluctant but it is clearer than Verizon regular phone service. Clear as a bell! It is $39.95 a month. If you have any cable service, you might want to check and see if they have this. This is VOiP protocol but I just have never seen anything that was as clear as theirs.

If Comcast has this, it is my guess that the other cable internet services either have it or will have it in the future. This is fairly new with Comcast.
Thank you SOooo much MQA !...
Just what I needed! You don't know how much you have helped! I have printed your response. I was trying to make it too hard by overthinking like I always do. My physical therapist keeps hinting that one of their (at home) transcriptionists left, HINT HINT, and I have been afraid to talk to the office manager because of all of the logistics stuff.

One more question: About the 3$ a page...could you explain a little more about that. What about half pages and the like? Have you figured out what kind of cpl that equals? However, the 3$ a page sounds like a much easier way to calculate the bill.
Thanks again!
That is SOOOO right-on!

you are soooo right.

Thank you soooo much. I thought it was just me.

That Indian MT who lives in the US story and cherry picks while not wanting to do Indian bad dictators just was too much!  And the insider who told the MT this was happening.   Wow!  For two months!!!  How long should it take for the Indian MT to cherry pick before she does the Indian dictators?   Blah, blah, blah.  How and why do people do this to themselves?

It is the nature of the business just like sales.  You win some, you lose some.  There is feast and there is famine.  Do the work while it is there because tomorrow it may be dry.  Don't like the work, get another job.

I'm sorry, but I would have soooo just walked out of there.
That HAD to be awkward.
I soooo can relate to you!.....sm
Please don't feel so bad, menopause affects your mood, temperament, just so many things about your body that you are used to! I had a radical hysterrectomy back in 2000, so I had to go through menopause "instantly." I could not take the patch and hated HRT, so I have been using naturopathic supplements to help....but depression, mood swings, cravings, the HORRIFIC night sweats and hot flashes, lowered libido....I got it all, and it really is a transition. Could you perhaps speak with a compassionate female therapist, not necessarily a psychiatrist, but someone who understands what you are going through and can hash out all of the issues that are bothering you? Just know that I care, you have friends here, and please feel free to e-mail me anytime, okay?
soooo true
I was hired as a QA manager and the company I work for have been trying to demote me every chance they get, promoting the less qualified, etc etc. It is clear that a good MT is more valuable to a company as just that, an MT. Sooo try not to be as good and you might move up in the ranks. LOL;
Thank you guys soooo much!
I knew this was the place to come to get help!
Soooo true!
Well spoken.  No one seems to care that these foreign parasites are compromising the integrity of their own patient records with their slovenly dictation styles!!!!!!!!!!!
Laughing - you are soooo right
QA is overrated and yes they do need to get themselves.... QA are MTs that think they know more than a regular MT... in a nutshell....
some people are soooo lucky!

Oh yeah, I am soooo scared!
What are you gonna do, ride your horse over here and get me???????
Your BOS post is soooo true! sm

There are so many newer MT's who don't know the facts where BOS is concerned.  I use my BOS everyday....  it elevates my monitor to just the right height.

Soooo weird. Hmmmm
This post refers to the posts below from the ICs from TRX (I am one) - I find it interesting that a person would come on here and call someone out of there name (the owner) and then walk away without explaining how he/she came to their conclusion.  Seems a person would want to make their case or maybe just persons like myself and the other IC who stood up to ask why.  I'm so confused.  I guess we're all just different that way.    Some people are yellow and some aren't.  That's right, I said it.
Ok..I will soooo not watch SVU anymore if they
split up Olivia and Elliot!! OMG what a show tonight!
This is not creamy, but is SOOOO good...
1 cup oil
1 cup vinegar
1 cup sugar
1 Tbsp salt
1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
3 Tbsp parsley flakes (may use less)
1/2 Tbsp black pepper
4 tsp dried mustard
16 oz cooked rotini
1 medium cucumber
1 medium green pepper

Mix all ingredients well, refrigerate before serving.

Note: I leave out the cucumber and pepper when refrigerating, and cut these and add just before serving.

MS Word SOOOO Slow
Has anyone ever experienced a very slow MS Word program all of a sudden?  It is very slow to get into and exit from MS Word 2002. Once in the program it is fine and all other programs on computer seem to work fine.  Wondering if I may have too many autocorrect and autotext entries??  Any help would be appreciated.  have tried everything can think of, even added much memory.  Thanks.
Wow to Technical Support! Thanks soooo much! ....
for your extensive answer!
I'll start with cleaning up my mouse and working up from there if this does not work.
I'll let you know.
There are still very kind, knowledgable, helpful and generous people in this world, THANKS !
I was soooo lucky... my son was potty trained at 2..
He had his 2nd birthday party on Saturday, and on Monday he started potty training.  Never bought another diaper.  Two weeks later, he was in underwear during the day.  But, I took him regularly and monitored his juice intake.  Thirty minutes after dinner was the last full drink.  He would go potty right before bedtime at 8pm and maybe get a little juice if he asked for it.  Since I worked nights, I would wake him up (or just take him sleep) to the bathroom at around 12am or 12:30am.  He would wake up dry most mornings, but he wore Pull-Ups until he was about 2-1/2.  He is 7 now and has an accident every blue moon, mainly because he falls asleep in bed without going to the bathroom right before getting in bed.  Proud of him.  Yours will get there too.
I agree, and I work for MQ! Sooo boring, soooo old, and
you would think they'd realize how idiotic they look - whining and whining and predicting doom and gloom! Honestly, MQ and Philips is BOOMING in the business world right now.  Huge advances the last few months - HUGE sales of products, advances, awards in the industry.  I get email alerts daily on the HUGE growth of MQ - and these old sea-hags just sit on here and cackle about DOOM.  Boy, do they need a reality check, or what? All is fine in MQ world, and always, always will be!  As long as you're willing to work and have a brain, MQ is a great place to work! Oh, yeah, and I'm mgmt - making 6 figures and even remotely interested in sea-hag opinions! That is just soooooooooooooo lame, too! Or maybe I'm the same poster from below who always uses CAPS! That is sooooooooooo funny. Cracked up at that analysis - some of these women have way toooooooo much time on their hands rather than hitting the keyboard! Analysing posts to compare typing styles. Give me a break! What a hoot!
Soooo...what are you saying? That people should post something that is worthy of the board in SM
your estimation? Would you like to have the monitors delete this post about KL and Regis? What is it that you want? Or would YOU like to think of a transcription topic and post it? What's the deal?
Problems as in communication?? If so, I'm soooo there. Sick of unanswered emails. No one cares

Where did U get my picture??

Getting the picture
NOW you're all getting the picture. You vote with your feet. Don't expect anybody else, especially government, to come to your rescue. I also tell anybody that I come across that asks (even if they don't, I'll still tell them) to find out where the heck their medical records are being shipped to. If doctors are getting questioned enough by various different people, maybe, just maybe, they'll get the hint.
So, just what is the whole picture on the

Thanks for the laugh.
My take on the big picture of VR
I really think the companies such as Dictaphone, have a very good sales staff, that talks a good talk to the powers that be at the hospitals, that they can save money, yada yada yada with the VR then the hospitals are justified in lowering the rate of pay for the VR ... so we are spending more time making sure these reports are correct, but getting less money for our time... WE LOSE OUT!
What is wrong with this picture?
You got $400 and I only got $25??????  I mean, WTF?????????????????
something is wrong with that picture
