I love my Oreck, but vacuums are definitely kind of like potato salad. :)
Real specific to the particular person.  Have a great day!
I found out the hard way ...
I was also charging 12 cpl IN CALIFORNIA... when I opted to raise my rates, I was underbid to 10 cents a line and guess what, lost the account - even though they loved me and said they woudl "continue to pay me 12 cents just to keep me". Even though they "expected" my pay would decrease anyways because they didn't want to pay for me all the macros they were using (apparently unaware they had been for 7 years) well guess what, after 7 years of never raising my rates and the price of living and everything else going up, I couldn't live on that. what a slap in the face huh, so I quit. So good luck to you.

Oh i meant to say, you can call around other offices and ask what they are paying their transcriptionists...
I found out the hard way that first in always have the work. Supervisor sm
doesn't care what time I work. As was stated to me first come first serve.
thanks for a great MT week to all involved and for your hard work

I LOVE Instant Text. No, it is not hard to use.
.
Love the Hard Way, Starman, Hairspray. nm

No, but it is hard not to fall in love with a house. sm
Glad you will be able to back out of this, though.  There will be another house for you, without the previous damage.  good luck.
Vacuums
I like Hoovers and they recently got good reviews from Consumer Reports.

I'll tell you, though, that I'm very sorry I bought a bagless with a HEPA filter. It's a real pain. One of the stupidest ideas of this era.

The filter clogs quickly--much faster than a bag--and you have to take the vacuum somewhere (in my condo, the kitchen--they'd shoot me if I did it outside), take off the canister, shove the whole thing into a bag, then drag out the filter and literally scrape off the mess. While doing that, all the dust and fluff the filter caught comes loose, poofs up all over, and flies around.

It's all up your arms, your neck, down your shirt, in your hair and up your nose, and all down your clothes. It's horrible.

You end up with more in the air than you ever did before. I have to take a big load of Benadryl now just to vacuum and I'm looking to get a good old BAG model the next time I see a good price on one.

Some lady in the store was buying a bag-style. She told me not to buy the bagless, but I didn't listen.

Before you buy one, make sure you try a friend's first. And clean it out.

Ugh. Disgusting. The top-fill bags were better any day!

Love them, though bought a cheapie $300 Proform- hard to use-
it is belt-driven-- Wish I had sprung more $$ on it. Have used the ones at the gym when I was a member, loved them, could do 30 minutes w/o any trouble. Have get to go over 5 minutes on mine at home. Recently got a treadmill ($800 on sale for $600), like it a lot, though ellipital is a lot better for you.
Found a great eponym website! sm

This has been helpful to me.  I thought I'd share for those of you who haven't already discovered this website.

Hope it is helpful.

I found a GREAT job by posting my resume here. :-)
I didn't have much faith in the process since I have heard that hundreds of people respond to each ad posted, but decided to give it a try anyway ... and I'm glad I did.  I was contacted by a small company with a great owner who pays well and treats me with courtesy and respect.  Thanks MT Stars!
I found a great free utility...

after making myself nuts and getting lots of technical advice on how to backup AutoText, when what I wanted was to back up AutoCorrect -- I found this great little utility that creates a text document out of your AutoCorrect entries, then you run it again on the Text document to re-create your AutoCorrect if lost.  Click on the link under "Method 1" on this page to download it.  It's a lifesaver!

I have the Infinity, have found it compatible with just about everything, it is great!.....NM

Not a great site. I have found many errors on
xx
I have found great reviews on Kapersky. Do you know if...
they offer a free trial? I just downloaded Webroot Internet Security and it's "supposed" to be pretty good. I've got it free for 14 days. Thanks!
I found great headphones, GRADO LABS
Grado Labs SR60. I put a more detailed note down below, where I had asked for help with headphones. I love them. Great sound, comfortable, you forget they are on. I can just type and forget about the sound, such a relief. Like the olden days.
No flame here - think it's great you found something that will work for you plus get clothes clea
at the same time.  Thanks for sharing this tip with us!
Found great headphones- GRADO LABS SR60
Thanks to all you who replied. At my local MAC store I found they had a display you could listen to the earphones. I bought GRADO LABS SR60, as the sound was good and they sit entirely outside your ear with BIG round ear pads.

When I got them home, the sound was GREAT for transcribing. Thank the Lord. Really. It was just like the old days, when I COULD TYPE AND NOT WORRY ABOUT THE SOUND. I did change settings on my sound card--it has an equalizer-- to New Wave or something, it seemed the best, and put the Wave file way down, and adjusted the volume on the speakers, and I was very happy.

I read on someone's review, some audio guy on the net, that Grado SR60's have not as much bass as the higher number models. But for transcription that is good.

Well, from my lips to God's ears, just in time, I am so happy. Really, I have bought a lot of headphones trying, but they have all been cheap. These are not that expensive, but they were great. The Bose were very good sound, but for transcribing, I did not think I'd like them. Plus they were heavier on the ears, more of a conventional fit around the ears and put pressure on the head. Another great thing about the Grado, they have a metal top piece that goes over the head -covered with leather or fake leather--the audio website said, you can rest that on the top of your head and take away some of the pressure on your ears. That helps relax and pretty soon you don't notice them, like with other headphones fighting all the time to keep them in position.

Thanks to all. Hope this helps someone. The sound is great.
I just saw a great one where he found a lady friend for a woman's boxer dog.
It was cool how he treated the dog so differently from the woman, and dogs respond very quickly to him. To allow the two boxers to get to know each other in a natural way and allow all their social interactions to progress where he could monitor them, he had to ask the woman to stay out 100 feet away. Otherwise she would have been smothering them with kisses - just her way. The two boxers hit it off, going through all the right social behaviors so they could get to know each other and not squabble.
vacuuming - either the vacuums are too heavy or they don't pick up anything....nm

I use Shorthand for Windows and love it. I have found it works well with most every program. SM

I have used with Word and Word Perfect.  I have used it with Meditech and Cerner.  I have used it with RadNet and StarNavigator for Radiology.  I can use it with my email applications and on the internet if I choose.  If the Expander is open and running, you can use it with any and every window program you use.

I was really simple to learn to use too.  Very user friendly.

I bought one of those $60 bagless Dirt Devil Breeze vacuums at
K-Mart, and I hate it.  It's loud, difficult to push around, messy to empty, and causes shoulder pain.  It was kind of a vacuuming emergency because we had just had new carpeting put in and my Electrolux wasn't working.  It cost $29 to fix the 15-year-old Electrolux, so the Dirt Devil is just collecting dust.  I love my Electrolux, but I got it for free.  I won't pay an arm and a leg for a vacuum.
That's great! Love it! nm

We love ours, the DVR is great too! (sm)
I think that DishNet is cheaper than DirectTV, at least when I did my research almost a year ago.
I love my supervisor. She's great!
.
That's a great idea. I'd love to see him too.

If you don't know how to post his picture I'm sure there's several people here who'd be more thanhappy to show you how to do it.

Come on. We're all waiting with bated breath to see your hunk of a husband because we know he probably puts Tom Cruise to shame.

Sounds great. Hope you love it! (nm)

It's great and easy to use. You'll love it! nm

sorry...not a great experience. I do love the work,

Such a great movie! Still love the soundtrack

Working full time at home with small children is hard but part time works great
is almost impossible. You will either have to work when your spouse is home or for only a few hours during the day and then more when they are asleep. I work part time at home and my kids (2&5 now) have done very, very well. They are great kids, very well behaved, don't get into much. I stop working to check on them/give them some attention every hour or so while I work (5 hours each afternoon or so) and they get all my attention in the morning and at night. It has worked out beautifully for us.
We love our Dodge Durango! Sis-in-law has a GMC Envoy which is great but a little out of our
budget.
I do only Op Reports and love it. Great line count too. sm
Everyone is different, although I think you can learn them and you may even like doing them. Give it a shot and good luck!

Been specializing in op reports for 25 years now. You do need to keep up with the medical equipment terms. There is something new every day.
no i don't love being MT but it beats McDonalds. no i don't work for a great company.
no raises and constant shift in management. no i don't make more than enough money to just pay my bills but i have cut down on overhead of regular job outside of the home.

it's an okay job relatively speaking.
Love my Kirby G5 -- got it used for $500 - the thing is a tank and works great!- nm

Oh Yeah, me too! I love the Queen! I hadn't thought of her, but she'd be great. nm

Love Johnny Depp too. He has a sense of humor and is a great actor.
Love his movies.
I use the Simply Sheer. Love it. Great coverage and feels like no makeup at all. nm

If it rains hard, the wind blows hard and there are trees
nearby, it snows heavily it will mess up the signal.  The speed is not constant, sometimes as slow as dial-up, but at least still connected.  Many companies will not allow satellite.
MQ sucks!
Perhaps the OP is someone new to this rotten bunch called MedQuist and maybe new to this racket in general. Innocence is so cute in a newbie!
MQ Sucks

Take it from some one who worked on the inside. you think you MT's are treated like xxxx? you have no Idea what an actual employee has to go through. specially in a certain office. Now I can't talk to badly about MQ as a coporation unless you count INTENTIONAL FRAUD bad but hey it is always the "right thing" to do when you come clean after you have been caught right? Considering they went through great lengths to hide their inside coruption....

Now the people that work in the office, lets just say if this is how women would run the world boy am i happy that men are in charge. These ladies are vindictive, mean, ugly, and unholy. They take advantage people over left and right with no regards to ethics and morals. trust me i would know. and all of you who are treated kindly by this office must do either a lot of xxx kissing or be on their good side. I have seen some xxxx in my day that would disgust most of you. So those who are defenders of Medquist are completely in the dark about what they are talking about. Maybe the coporation as a whole has matured some but the office in SO. Cal. and you know where i am talking about sucks. beyound sucks makes me want to throw up!

can i get an AMEN? (sorry if my spelling sucks)

OMG! The BO sucks!
I was in a Walmart once in Connecticut and thought I was going to vomit! What's up with people???? You're in the store, buy some soap for goodness sake!
Wow, that sucks!
Good luck on finding another job if you haven't already...
It sucks

that sucks
I guess I waited too long? I just found out today that my company is being audited by AT&T. Basically some suits are coming in next week to decide whether it is financially frugal to keep the center open or not. Since att owns practically all the major telecommunications companies now, there is a lot more competition for my job, which means they won't bat an eye at firing over 300 employees. Yet another sign of our failing economy. I might be completely jobless soon. Where are people like me supposed to go from here? I love transcription and was planning on doing it for a very long time.
I know and it sucks....
If my accounts go VR/SR and pay what the above poster mentioned, I will have to *edit* 3-1/2 times the lines to make what i make now. So, my paycheck that is 16,000 lines this Friday would have to be somewhere around 51,000 lines. I don't think there are enough hours in a day for me to get that much. lol Good thing I decided to go back to school this fall and I'm steering clear of the medical field. lol
Nothing sucks more

In my opinion, its always what they want to hire you to do and its always the hardest temp job to take - receptionists are magically expected to know "everything" about a company and every employee that works there.  If companies had any sense they'd make a more seasoned employee (that actually KNOWS some answers) take the receptionist job and let the temp file or make copies.  But the seasoned employees refuse to do reception work - because everyone knows it sucks!  Then they act like they're doing you the ultimate favor if they drag themselves to the reception desk long enough to let you pee twice a day - and sneer at you because you don't KNOW Mr. Jones always plays golf on Thursdays at 2, and Mr. Smith always covers for him...how the heck WOULD you know that unless you'd worked there more than 5 minutes!  Oh, and by the time you've learnt enough mini-facts like these to actually make you good at that job, the assignment is over - and none of these vitally important tidbits will mean a thing at the next temp job.

I finally had to tell every temp agency I applied at that I refuse reception work - it was all I was ever offered, and I got really sick of being treated like I was stupid because I didn't know every idiosyncrasy of a company the second I strolled in the door.  Temps already get treated like second-class citizens at most companies, which is bad enough on your self esteem, but to be chided all day because you "should have" known the unknowable and having to beg to be let to have a pee break is just too demeaning!

Softscript sucks!
Run as far away as you can from them!!
