I meant it in a good way, and I will not turn this into a huge ugly post.

In Reply to: I totally agree - fg

I am not a "paranoid mass of jelly", for Heaven's sakes! But I have lived thru having neighbor children try to poison my puppies over our fence in similar circumstances - not identical, but similar.  These same kids used to stuff picked flowers in my mailbox, and I never knew how to take it.  I just asked that she be extra cautious. Obviously you ladies have been blessed with not being confronted in life with strange "encounters" like this - I have, and have tried to learn from it. There used to be no more trusting person than myself.  I have learned, though, to be cautious in situations like this - not paranoid, just cautious. Wisdom, some would call it? For what its worth, my sister is a psychiatrist, and she thought the flowers creepy as well, but in a different analytical light - with her mother's and sibling(s) death of late, and her expressing that she wanted the puppy killed, to my sister, she said they could be symbolic of flowers on a grave.  Not paranoid - she's nearly 60 years old and deals with school-aged kids on a daily basis. Her "job", so to speak. Again, probably a 100% innocent gesture, but to those of us who have had encounters with the "children from H*ll", it could be eery.  My post was meant out of genuine concern for Puppy Mom!

I just opened the post regarding Jen having an ugly nose and there was the OSi ad. No hunt here. I
the post about Jen's ugly nose lol

I guess they are enjoying their ad campaign on here though trying to drive the moderators nuts
The good, the bad, and the ugly.
I just transferred a whole group of on-site hospital MTs to a MTSO (I'm currently a recruiter). The money they made was amazing, and was killing the hospital. They all now work for a national.

On the flip side, I just went back to work for a hospital as an MT, the job was advertised recently on an MT board. Great bennies, I know the docs already as it is a local account, great pay. They were once with two major national MTSOs, decided they could do a better job themselves...and from what I've seen, I'm sure they do.
    Good, bad or UGLY
Geez guys, I see no work, slow work, and when there is work - "it's bad". What does it take to make you people happy???????
    Good, bad, ugly...
I've worked for several MT companies and have seen "it all" (no flames, I'm sure there are MTs here who have been working longer than I've been breathing). Anyway, have seen MDs who dictate every few words and expect us to fill in the blanks, had MDs who question in the beginning of the report "I wonder how many days until I get this job back, they must type them on the moon or something" etc.... Then there are the gems out there too, ie "I'm sure you can tell I'm dictating from my car, first of all sorry about that, but I'm on my way to a Steelers game, I sure hope you like the Steelers" As with any profession "Takes all kinds" :)
Disney thread still on this page down under the ugly names post. nm

There are good points and there are bad and ugly points. Unfortunately, the bad and ugly get
deleted.  Just the other day there was info and it seems to be more positive.  Like any MT job, some love it, some hate it.  But, having been employed there, the bad parts are/were true.   The changes sound great but not great enough to make me change my mind about working for them.  I do say she pays well for the area.  She is one of the rare business owners who actually started out as an MT..I think that makes a big difference in pay.
    Precyse. Good, bad, ugly?

    thanks!

Platforms - the good, bad, and the ugly!

Would like to know what platforms are user-friendly and which ones slow you down.  Currently working on one that slooooows me down so much!!!

What an ugly thing to post. Your job could be outsourced tomorrow, sweetie. FYI...Job security

I have had the good, the bad and the ugly in QA people in the past sm
It shapes the way I do my job, on both sides of the equation.

Right now, I am teaching an MT to do acute care with my feedback. I must be doing something right (she is too and trying very hard) because she is progressing so nicely. She does rad too and she said that my help is making her a better rad MT as well.

I so rarely send anything to QA at my other FT job and I had to send one yesterday, the first in over a month! I was so p o 'd, but the doctor threw some obscure equipment at me and I had 7 blanks, but that was for only 3 words I could not document well enough to suit me. My favorite QA gal grabbed it and gave me some feedback on the words and she went on to tell me what a good job I did (not!) because she said that most MTs have 10 to 20 blanks for this same doctor. I almost never have a blank with him, but this one time...it was a complex lower extremity interventional vascular procedure and I am not up on the equipment for those just yet with the switch to cardiovascular from OP notes. I felt like a fool, but she was great.

I have some really awful ones and there is one in particular who comes to mind because of her extremely condescending and childish manner. I actually have the QA position for a gal who was fired because of a similar attitude problem.

As QA, we are around to be the MT's safety net. We here for an extra set of ears so that the document is as full and correct as possible. Providing feedback helps an MT so that the quantity of their work going to QA will diminish. If you really want a justification for your existence as a QA, it is in the number of blanks you fill in and low numbers of jobs you have to review. IT IS NOT a promotion! IT IS NOT job advancement! It is using the knowledge you have gained to help others.

I can sort of understand the attitude because MTs seem to be having more issues with quality than they used to, or so it seems to me. The quality most lacking is a sincere wish to do the job well.
Someone who unfairly grabs the easy stuff instead of doing the good, bad, and ugly,

Emdat platform?? Good, bad or ugly? Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance. NM

Its so amazing to me to read your huge post defending day care!
All the positives you post are "family", "family", "family". Its just like family, everyone is so close its just like family, etc. EXACTLY - its your kids real family, cause that's who they are with for the most part, that's who they are BONDING with. The day care is THEIR FAMILY, and you could be the family.  The only family, cause you apparently work at home! You just don't get it! So, you put them in day care, and feel so relieved because its a "good" day care, cause its JUST LIKE FAMILY!!  Its so ironic that you can't see the travesty of your own words.  Well, at least their DAY CARE family wants them:  1. the adults sure do, cause you're paying them $$ to be "family", and 2. the peer group (other kids) sure want them, cause their "real" family has stuck them in day care, too!!  I just so wish that some of you would realize the logic of NOT sticking your kids in day care when you COULD have them home with you. Its so sad.
Ah, I really meant to post that under the original post
Though it was gourdpainter's post which inspired me to post that suggestion.

What I meant to post above

    From somebody in Houston.

    Well...

I feel sorry for these people - they have lost everything - they have nothing. I blame their own government at least a bit for not evacuating the ones that were too poor or had no way to evacuate.

That being said, it isn't going as well here as the media makes it out to be. Anthony has been down the to the Astrodome as required by the Fire Department, and I went down on Saturday with a friend of mine.

The Astrodome holds around 50,000 people - and there aren't that many evacuees down there. There are bathroom facilities, but these people are squatting on the streets, parking lots, and lawns of places down around the astrodome and leaving behind urine and fecal matter. They are throwing trash wherever they are when they finish with it, and quite a few act like we "owe" them something. I can't tell you how many people were bitching about the MRE's that they were being served.

As high as gas prices are, I will go out of my way not to have to drive by the Astrodome (my RE's office is about 1 mile from the dome). When you stop at a stop light they come up to your car and beg - and knock on the windows. There have even been reports of some jumping in the backs of pickups and even scratching cars and trucks with knives, if you don't give them money.

I know that there are some good people out there, but there are a lot of bad ones too. There are some that were appreciative of the baby formula (breastfeeders - please don't jump on me here) and diapers and coloring books that we were handing out - and some that were bitching about the brand of diapers, the fact that we were only authorized to give out one can of formula per child and that we didn't have a certain kind of bottles. I even had people that refused to take gift cards from Grocery Stores - wanting money instead.

Last night, one of the evacuees was able to score some alcohol somewhere, got drunk and carjacked a car and ran into several parked cars - the police were able to pull him over after a 15 minute chase.

And I can't get over the smell of raw sewage in the area of town that most of the evacuees are housed. The plumbing in the toilets are working just fine - but they aren't using it. They are trashing the place.

I can't imagine what it must be like for them, having nothing but the clothes on their backs - but I think I would be more appreciative of whatever someone could do for me, instead of griping about what kind of bottles they were giving me to feed my kids with, and that the MRE's were cold.

I really have mixed emotions about the whole thing. I feel sorry for the people who couldn't leave, and got stuck in the chaos. I don't have as much sympathy for the ones who could have left, but didn't want to.

I am sure I sound like a cold, callous, b****, but I was absolutely amazed at the attitude of most of the evacuees that I was in contact with on Saturday.

I had my post under the wrong one. I meant it for the other one just above yours where sm

they said they are paid on production.  I saw yours and I did understand yours, but somehow I guess while I was reading it, I responded to the other one.

Sorry about that!  I too made much more per hour as an MT even if I made $25 as QA, but I am vehemently opposed to QA being paid per line.

Post was meant to be helpful
so why do you want to turn it into something ugly?

It sounds like you have not had very good luck lately, but by the tone of your post, you sound like a very scary person. Brush-up on your people skills and maybe your luck will get better.

meant SM, there is a message in post above.

They meant in OPs post. We don't know what kind
So people shouldn't assume anything is anti-Christian about the question.
Believe it or not, only now I understood what you really meant in your post,
you meant that she should pose as an Indian, then she would be hired, that's funny!
a year. After I clean it good I turn it upside down on a towel for a day and then I position it
the heat/air conditioning register so it gets good and dry for about 2 days.  If you don't let it dry good it won't work very well.    I've been washing mine about 2 years.
I wrote the post and I am not offended, I took it how you meant it.
and like I said.... I love warm  milk, drink it almost every night.
The post was meant for Professional MT newbies
We agree and thank you for your comment. It really was not necessary and somewhat unprofessional in my opinion. It certainly does not further the cause of professional MT operators/Entrepenurs.

SORRY. meant for MTSO post below. Must be Sunday

    :
I meant to answer your post earlier, but I've been trying to catch up on

housework before school starts.  I cannot WAIT for school to start.  I'm so tired of the kids' bickering and attitudes this summer.  They've taken to ignoring me whenever I ask them to do anything.  I threaten them with grounding, loss of privileges, or slave duty.  Then they bicker about who did more chores or who made the mess to begin with.  Instead of cleaning up after them, I leave it sit until their Dad gets home.  If they don't want to listen to me, they'll darn well listen to him.

They are usually really good kids.  I think it's mostly cabin fever because a lot of their friends went on vacation or stayed with their biological Dads for the summer.  The kids are so bored.  I'm just so tired of it every summer.  I have all these grand plans for finishing work early and doing something fun each day, but I get the same garbage every year.  Too many kids over here, too many interruptions, too much bickering, too much mess.

Let me tell you, I'm celebrating on the first day of school.  I'm going to the coffee shop and buying a big mocha latte.  Then I'm going to sit there all by myself and read a book.  On the way home, I'm grabbing lunch for myself and watching a chick flick by myself.  No McDonalds either.

The post wasn't meant to be posted forever. Most visitors know by now.

Good idea, but this isn't what she meant by "backup". sm
External hard drives are great for backup - and are becoming cheaper all the time.

By "backup", this poster meant she has a full secondary system she can use in case her main computer should fail for reasons other than hard drive failure - and that isn't a bad idea either since we depend on our computers for our income. If you can afford to pick up a used system and set it up so you can switch to it and go right to work if your main computer fails, it might just pay for itself someday.
Turn down such low low offers, turn industry around. sm
The way to figure is how many lines an hour do you do. There are 13 lines characters in a line (65 line length)
So say you TRY to average 4 pages an hour say 34 lines a page equal 139 lines, times your line rate.
    139 X 4 cents a line = $5.56 an hour

and what if you don't do 4 pages even less.

MTing hourly hourly output is not very predictablel, so ya never know and predict what you can put out each hour.
THE WAY TO TURN THE INDUSTRY AROUND IS TO SPEAK UP, SAY 'NO' THAT IS TOO LOW AND GIVE SHORT EXAMPLE.

If the MTs continue to accept, that is what the going rate will continue to be. Yes, Yes, it will. Just keep looking. Email for general lowest to highest line rate prior to testing and resume, just say it saves time on both sides and it DOES. Why waste time. Soon, the message will get out there.
Turn off puter, wait a min, turn on with delete key pressed down, then hit delete key NUMEROUS times

Ooops, sorry. My last post said "head head." I meant "her head." Sorry.

cherrypicking co-worker issue (meant to post it on this board instead of MQ board) sm...

I need opinions please...I work on a very small account with just a handful of ladies.  Because of the nature of the software (trying not to get too specific here) we can see who is working online and what reports they are working on in real-time...

We have one cherrypicker on the account.  Instead of using FIFO method, she retrieves the reports by author ID - usually picking the better dictators of course.  She knows I busted her and she did admit to it in on our work e-mail (not too bright) which I am saving just in case she gets out of hand - so far I'm still able to make money since really most of the dictators aren't bad.

But every night it's starting to wear on me since she's screwing up turnaround time.  I don't really want to cause a big uproar being that it is such a small account and I need to work with her almost every night usually one on one.

What would you all do?  I want to handle this as delicate and professional as possible because we can't really afford to lose anyone on this account.  In other words, I refuse to stoop to her level by cherrypicking right back.

My boss has asked me several times why so-and-so does so much more than I do...I just bite my lip at that point but one of these days I think I might explode and just open up a can of worms....

    Here, Here! Good post. (nm)

    very good post JZ
I have been working at home for over 11 years as an IC and employed.  I have many times tried to juggle two jobs for various reasons, lack of work, always received the worst of the work when work is available, tiring of it, etc. etc., and I have always found it very difficult and actually end up working many more hours than when working just one job.  I wish I could do it, but to date I have had great difficulty working two jobs, even if one is part-time, one full-time, or both part-time.  Be sure it is what you want.  Good luck!
    HA! Good post. (nm)

    good post but..............sm

I read that BUSH only approved enough money to restore the levees for a category 3 hurricane (this might have changed in the recent past though) and when I heard that, I couldn't believe it.  The levees needed enough money to withstand a hurricane 5.  I know this because I live on the water in the SE for 30 years.  Yes, it's up to the locals and nobody was condemning your governor.  I do agree it's not a political affiliation thing.

But what I saw is that most of New Orleans (not the inner city) and outskirts are where a lot of poor people are/were and my feeling is this administration is not racist...they merely do not know how to deal with poverty and the poor.  That's VERY sad.

    Good post!
An excellent and accurate post-very true!
Good post and I think BOS would
agree - only thing they do differently (I think and too tired at this point to verify) is serial 7's I think?  I don't use the BOS as a know-it-all but use it as a guide if I cannot find it anywhere else or have no idea!!  Thanks so much!
