Depends on the file format of the Short Cuts file.
ShortHand comes with a utility file that can import various formats. You can get that file with the trial download of SH.

Make your short form dont to expand to do not.

Phrases appear in alphabetic order by short form.
You can type a few letters and see all phrases in the advisory or you can type a few letters and see a phrase, then a word, then a phrase. It all depends on the alpha order of your short forms so you are not going to get all phrases, then all words.

You can clear the option to sort by short form and use the frequency order instead, but I don't think that's what you want.

Just create a command entry and use a short form that's fast to type. sm
This will bypass the Extext command. Make sure you put the trailing underscore at the end of your entry so you won't get an extra space from your marker key. Your entry will look like this:

{command}{Alt.}_

When transcribing "command" or "imperative" form, use verb form or "follow up"
For a long time I would become confused by "discharge instructions" type followup/follow up usage ...

Yes, the patient was to follow up with his doctor ... but was also to make a follow up appointment ...

In my experience, certainly your QA may vary and/or be inconsistent all-on-its-own ... but most of these truncated forms, fit into what I was taught was called "imperative case" and follow up is being used as a VERB ...

[[[ even though there is a reasonable argument to be made that "followup with primary care physician in 2 weeks" refers to an "appointment" which is a noun. ]]]

You can figure out the prevailing "rule of thumb" for your QA ...

Not having to think it through --- priceless.

It is not a plural form. It is a possessive form. SM
The man's name was Metzenbaum and he devised this particular instrument.  The correct spelling would be Metzenbaum's.  WITH THE APOSTROPHE.  AAMT BOS is full of crap.
I used Short Keys, not Short hand for Bayscribe, it worked fine.

Ditto, short ERs or short OPs....short anything! sm
And I especially don't like long OPs, they are the most boring for me, and the doctors pause a lot cause they have to think more. I just want to be done with it! Next!!! ; )
I don't recall

a step between MRC and TL, but then I may be blocking the whole unpleasant next eight years.  It just got worse and worse and the final straw was Philips and being forced to become an employee, with a simply horrid manager.

When I started with MRC I worked in the office, which was about 4 miles 1-way from home and I either biked or walked.  I was pretty fit that couple of years.  TL moved the operation to swankier offices several miles farther away and across a major highway, thus putting an end to my bicycling.  I tried to work in the TL office, but they were just way too starchy and corporate for most of us MC people (no denim, no tennis shoes, no talking, blah, bhal, blah).  I remember a welcoming speech given by their office manager to all us boat people they had just acquired.  She spoke with her hands so much (a sort of Babs Streisand affectation - two-inch acrylic nails and all) that I could hardly keep from laughing.  Shortly after that I went home to work.

I do miss knowing the people I work with and for.  TL had an online company bulletin board but it was pointed out that this was for chat, but for official use only.  MQ had that horrible e-mail system where you had to check daily for bulletins.  Trouble was, I would have to spend 20 minutes a day sorting through all their self-promotional garbage to get to anything that actually pertained to me.

What a walk down memory lane!

I don't recall asking for advice (more)
and I don't really need a lecture from you about my finances. You assumptions about my situation could not be farther from the truth.

I'm not going to defend myself or make corrections to your incorrect assumptions. You seem to be very happy on your pedestal and God forbid anyone should choose to do things in a way that displeases you. I think it's pretty funny that you would get "burned up" by something that an anonymous person posted on the Internet.

I'm glad for you that you have nothing but luck going for you. Maybe you'll get to buy my car when I'm done with it!
There is one on MTChat, but I don't recall her name. nm

Long short forms vs short short forms

Carla,

A long short form is usually easier to remember. So I would definitely assign the short forms as suggested by Kelli:
SmithCThead
SmithCTabdomen
etc

In most Expander programs you would opt for a short short form as you have to type the whole short form before you can expand.
In Instant Text you don't have to type the whole short form: you type the first two letters of your long short form and then you can type any of the following letters.
So in this case you would type smcth for the first one, smcta, and you may also type smhead, smabd

This is possible when you use the Instant Text marker key to expand. If you use the space bar to expand, you may be better off assigning the initials as suggested in the second response, as you would not be able to "jump ahead".

Rename your normal.dot file to something else then restart Word. It will create a new file.

Diamond Pet Food Recall sm
check out their website if you use this brand.  dog and cat food recalled.  Dozens of dogs have died, others ill.
I'm confused....I don't recall ever subscribing to
anything. Do you get emails? You posted your own resume, and you can delete and modify that on your own so I'm guessing it's something different. Why didn't I ever have to sign up for anything?
Cannot recall password for Windows :(

PC crashed so I pulled out the old PC from years ago.  But, I cannot recall my password.  Can I get around this somehow?  I am lost without my puter :(.

Thanks!

I think it is the same type of file, so rename it and replace your autocorrect file with your DQS us

Help..I lost my word file. How can I retreive a file that has been changed? sm

I was working on a large file and had saved it in Word. I then went back to work on the file and hit a key that made the page go blank.  When I went to close the document it asked me to save any changes on the document. I answered yes, and now when I click on that document it is all blank! Shouldnt the previous info saved be there, even if the current stuff is not? Please help me!! Thank you

As I recall, ONLY after you've been there for a set length of time.
x
Yes. But per Vera, that's wrong, if I recall correctly. SM
There are apparently about 10 zillion people who think that if you use a slang spelling or term long enough, you legitimize it. Sigh. There's no reason for that to ever be one word until such time it's marketed under that brand name. You can find LOTS of stuff on Google, and if there were 10,000 people who misspelled a term, there would be 10,000 hits on it -- and it would still be misspelled.
I only have single coverage with them. but as I recall from the literature it was about
$500 a month or so, maybe a little less. Give them a call or e-mail and I am sure they will tell you.
If I recall, you should be able to pull up all the supporting documents sm
to review, not just the summary page.  I always back it up by doing the old pencil, paper, calculator method just to be sure.
I don't recall saying I 'don't research' blanks.
is exactly what this portion of this thread is about. I never leave a blank until all avenues of finding the answer have been exhausted, which includes leaving a blank and continuing on with the report, as sometimes the answer can be found further down in the same report.

And here's another problem: sometimes the answer to the blank presents itself in the next report, or several reports down the line. By then the 'offending' report with said blank in it has already been sent and cannot be retrieved. If already-type reports could be retrieved and fixed by the original person that typed them a few minutes to an hour later, it would save a tremendous amount of time for all concerned: MTs, QAs, and the doctor waiting for the report that is languishing in a QA backlog.
Probably 2 weeks and if i recall it will be on a Friday for Federal.

...with your user.aco file. Save your autocorrect file to somewhere else. nm
x
You can save the SH file in a text file and import to IT that way. sm
You may have to do some cleanup in the SH text file, but it sure would be faster than re-entering them all manually.
File taxes under the name on file w Social Security....
Name on W2 doesn't have to match, but your tax return has to match SS records. They don't want your marriage license or anything else. Did that for 13 years as instructed by IRS. Didn't have to change it with SS until state changed rules requiring drivers license to match SS records. Still use my maiden name in some limited circumstances.
She has explained it before - lots of expanders if I recall correctly.
I believe it - I to make great line counts in a few hours, but have to work in 2-3 hour periods, take a break, and go back later for 2-3 more hours.

If I sit here all day, I am not productive. It works for me.
I've always liked Doug, my husband looks similar; I don't recall whom I saw/liked first though

Yes, it should. As I recall, Express Scribe plays .dss files..sm
and that's what Olympus files usually are, but you can double check because some Olympus players also use .WMA files, I believe. Express Scribe plays nearly any file, but it should list on download website what all it will play.
No specific one that I can recall. Sorry. But I was running Google searches on the person,
and the same company kept popping up "run search online" everywhere! They had several options - $9.95 or $19.95 or a super-duper $49.95 one.  I went with the cheapest one, and even that was worth it. Though the $49.95 would surely be tempting....

I don't recall mentioning couches or TV-watching! Net-surfing is okay if one can't sleep, bu
most of the "fun" time I'm talking about is traveling to other countries, mountain biking, surfing, figure skating, skiing, and running, in addition to community events, reading, painting and drawing (some work was published), music, swimming, writing and sewing, just to mention a few.
Form

I got the form and started to fill it out. Where do I get another one? There was a phone number and web address on the information but I'm trying to search and can't find anything. Help hugs

The new tax form

so as IC/SE anD EMP..which form did you use..
I was SE for most of the year and employee for 2 different companies last 2 months of year..I also am now part-time emp. with a co. and trying to start up my own business which I started up in Dec. and want to take deductions for equipment purchased for that business. Oh my head is hurting.
Is this form something I can...
request to fill out on my own, or is it usually requested by the IRS?  Will the company I contract through know that I have requested this form?  I, too, am an IC who is treated like an employee.  I have worked a set schedule (days and hours), including nights and both weekend days, for a long time with little or no flexibility.  The pay is good, though.  TIA
Form your own.
I love escription...won't work on anything else.
There has always been some form of
QA, don't know that there was ever an official start. Most employees in any business are evaluated on the quality of their work.
You don't need the form.
You don't really need the form.
an .exe file is not a voice file
I'm no techie, but it sounds like they might've sent the wrong file by mistake. Or could it be a program you need for testing/working for them that they sent? What is the name of the file (if it is something you can say here)?
I don't have a set schedule

My responsibilities are this:
1.  Account A - make sure all of Monday's dictation is due back by Tuesday morning 6 a.m. (they're time). Same for the remainder of the week.
2.  Accounts B and C - make sure all of the H&Ps dictated on Monday are transcribed and returned by Tuesday morning 6 a.m., they're time. Same for the remainder of the week.
3.  Anything I transcribe Monday is due back 6 a.m. (they're time) they next business day. Ditto for the rest of the week.

This only changes when there's a stat reports.

As long as I meet "the deadline," I can work whenever I want. And I do.

my schedule
I am a hardworking MT who used to be in a managerial position.  I am scheduled for 9-1/2 hours daily because I prefer to take breaks rather than work straight through 8 hours.  Today, however, I only took a 1/2 hour break, and stopped working an hour earlier than my shift was to end.  Now I'm wondering if that was the "wrong" thing to do.  I have only been in this job for a few months, and wherever I have worked before, holiday schedules were always pretty "laid back."  Now I'm wondering if I will be in big trouble tomorrow.  If it makes any difference, my production was higher than usual today, I think because I was trying so hard to get done an hour early.  What about this one?
Schedule C

Your schedule C should give you all the deductions that they have taken off of your business income.  When you print out all the forms it is there.  Have used it for almost 15 years now and (knock on wood) had a problem at all.

schedule
i work sun through thursday for 2 nationals
I have a set schedule, but...sm
I work 10 hours in a 12 hour window...5-5...working 10 hours in between. I believe this is what she was asking, correct?
My New Schedule

I also know what you're going through...I had the same issues ALL summer last year.  It sounds like my kids may be a little older than yours and are in school, so the last last 9 months have been wonderful, but now summer is back.

I spent a lot of time hashing over a schedule that would work out for me, my family and my account and came up with this:  M-F 6-9 am and then 6-9 pm and a few hours early Saturday morning.  I am able to vary this schedule a little bit so that also helps, but so far I LOVE my new schedule.  It gets me up and going in the morning and I really don't miss sleeping in a little longer like I thought I would.  It gives me the whole day free with the kids or for getting odd jobs done around the house, and and then I just work a few hours in the evening which gives my husband some summer time with the kids too.  Then we have the weekends as a family.

I know everyone's needs/schedules are different, but I just thought I'd share this schedule in case it would work out for you.  I really dreaded summer coming, but now I'm really enjoying it.

Also, don't stress over the house...it just gets messy again anyway.  It's SO not worth worrying about.  I used to keep a spotless house, but now I'm just expecting my kids to help out more (which is good for them) and I have to accept the job they do and be thankful.

Good luck.

Also, the MQ does not have IC, only PT and FT, so they do set schedule. (nm)

you do not need a tax ID # - just use the Schedule C - sm
and Sch. SE on your taxes. Write off as much as you can in your expenses, phone line, computer, paper, ink, chair, desk, electricity, etc. ---and no you do not need to incorporate; unless you become a big company I would not bother with that.
