If you call qualifying for food stamps & section 8 housing

Posted By: 'perks', then the MT-biz definitely has them on 2008-08-06
In Reply to: Staying in MT for the "perks" - sm - Laverne

As for working at home, it may be more comfortable, but not when your butt is planted in the same chair at your desk for 12-16 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the rest of the world goes on without you. Not a perk, in my book.

Food stamps, WIC, food banks, churches, family...
There are many answers to that problem.

No one has the right to steal and writing a dishonorable check is stealing. It is called "theft of property".

My tax dollars support government programs to prevent people from going hungry and to provide for women, infants, and children. I make donations to food banks and churches, etc., for those who just need help as well.
Section 8 housing. It's a federal program through HUD.
Google it "Section 8" housing to verify.
Food stamps?

I am not saying that you should stay in any job that is not financially viable - food stamps is something that I would not encourage.  I am only saying that I read alot of these blogs and it just seems that sometimes people forget that in any profession, this one or another, there are pros ands cons.  I worked in a medical office and with an insurance company prior to medical transcription, and I would do this any day, benefits or not.  I also have several nurse friends that make less than I do, with a 4-year degree.  And their schedules are ridiculous.  I am only saying I make great money, and have the flexibility that I desire.

Again, I am not encouraging anyone to stay in a profession where food stamps is the only option!!! Besides it would be hard to type if you didn't have a house for a computer and I imagine if you are on food stamps, DSL cable line is out as well!!! (LOL)

do you provide food stamps?

Are you sure you have to have kids to get food stamps? (sm)
I am not sure of that. I do think you should contact United Way and local churches and see if you can get some help. At the very least you need food and you should be able to get that from a church somewhere. It doesn't matter if you are of that religion or not and it does not matter if you have children or not. The church is there to help everyone without judgement.
Most families struggle. This is when you make too much for food stamps, but need help and sm
besides, volunteering in your community is a GOOD THING.  You can volunteer, pay for the box and give to a family who is in need.  Many, many people did that.  An older person who is on a fixed income and who can't get food stamps would likely welcome a box on a monthly basis.  This time of year, all the food banks around the country are in need because it is not a holiday, so few give and the need is greater every month.  It doesn't have to be for your family.
Food for the staff and doctors, if you can afford it. Food is always a big hit in a doctor's off

One of the biggest perks I can remember when I worked in a doctor's office was when the drug reps or orthopedic equipment reps would cater lunch for the whole office just so they could meet with the docs.  The whole office would get so jazzed at the idea of free lunch.

If you can't afford to cater lunch, then I would do something like a muffin basket and bagels always go over well.  But food is your best bet.

Really???? I miss 'burgh food. Philly food is okay, but it

The food is resturant quality food and very good

Low income housing?
My sister is getting divorced and wants to move into this place that bills itself as "low income".  They told her they would take 30% of her income.  BTW, she is also an MT.  She says she makes about $1350 a month, but has a van payment and various bills.  I am asking on here because the place won't answer any of her questions right now.  She needs to be moved by the 15th of March.  I am wondering if anyone knows how they can take over $400 of her income and still call themselves "low income" that doesn't seem fair.  I knew a lady that lived their with one child and paid less than $10 a month.  I mean what about her other bills?  She has 4 little children (twins 4, and  6- and an 8-year-old).  I hate to see her move in there and overpay.  My mom and I don't know what to tell her.  She's been through quite an ordeal already.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!  Aunt Maria
Be sure to investigate the housing market in your area
In my area as well as most of the U.S., the housing prices are SKY HIGH! Some say there is sure to be an 'adjustment' (downward) of housing prices in the near future. If the prices have skyrocketed in your area also, you might want to take a wait and see attitude for a year or two and see what happens? Just a thought.

I don't know your circumstances, and there may be reasons you need to buy a house right now, but a waiting period would also give you a chance to straighten up or clean up whatever is wrong with the credit.

I feel sad for my two sons, (one of whom is a store manager, but single income), as I don't see any possibility of either of them being able to buy a house at the outrageous prices nowdays.

My husband and I got lucky (MANY years ago) and bought our first house from an elderly fellow who carried the contract himself and gave us a STEAL of a price! He assumed we would default like all the other renters had and he would repossess the house. Ha Ha, not so with us!

Hey, maybe you could try advertising for a house with owner financing. Might be easier to qualify. Good luck!
Various analysts are predicting the housing market will collapse soon. sm
Cannot be sustained at the level it is presently at.
I had stamps years ago and (sm)
had to dump them and get a "card" instead. The next time I tried to use the card, I was told they only used stamps. The next time I tried to use the card at the store I got it at, I was told they no longer honored them. I gave up!
trailer parks and low level housing is where criminals generally go.
not too many criminals have good jobs to afford a nice house. i know of child molester filled neighborhood because there are no restrictions, no HOA and the houses are low income homes. no this doesn't only happen in trailer parks but crime statistically happens more often in worse neighborhoods and more ex-criminals statistically live in lower level neighborhoods.
Hmmmm...they stopped with the stamps here

Stamps go up tomorrow to 39cents. nm

Time Code Stamps
Hello All,

For any of you who have had to time code transcripts:

Would it be helpful to have an MS Word application that prints an automated time code stamp? I ask because a programmer friend of mine and I have discussed writing a program to do this, and I'm wondering how useful it would be to you all.

This is how we envision it working: First, you complete the transcript. Then you open the Time Code Stamper in Word, and start going through the audio again. Suppose you want to put a stamp every 15 seconds. When you press a certain keystroke combination (ctrl-shift-f1, for instance), the program inserts a time code stamp in the format you specify. Then you fast-forward the audio to the next 30-second increment. When you find the correct place in the transcript for the next time stamp, you put you cursor on the spot and execute the Time Code Stamper program again. It will automatically increment the time by 30 seconds (or whatever increment you specify) and print the stamp. If you make a mistake, you can click on the menu and manually set the correct time.

I tested this out once with a very simple version of the program, placing time codes in a transcript every 15 seconds, and I was able to complete the whole document in about a quarter of the audio time (e.g., 5 minutes to complete 20 minutes of audio). The few errors I made I was able to fix very quickly and move on.

Like I said, we haven’t actually built a full version of this program yet, I just wanted to get some feedback from the people who could actually be using it. We’re thinking of selling it for $29 or so. What do you think?

If this particular program would not be helpful for you, do you all have any requests for Word formatting programs that would help you? We’re trying to think of different widgets that would be of use to transcriptionists.

Thanks,

I went to Subway today and didn't get my stamps. sm

I could not believe it. I asked if I could have my Subway stamps and the clerk said they no longer give them out.

Why? Because somebody sold a whole roll of the stamps on ebay.

Former employee?  Gee ya think?

I knew I should not have bought that roll of 37-cent stamps!
This is all my fault.
It is because, stamps, cost of checks, envelops, staff time

Text to Type: This is {@KEY Ctrl+B}bold{@KEY Ctrl+B}.

You can use the same concept to add any formatting codes to your ShortHand text.
PLUS I DID try the help section (sm)

in Word AND I have a copy of Word For Dummies (which I am sure you would think is quite appropriate)  BUT I did not think to look up SELECT TEXT.  I looked up DELETING text which is what I thought I wanted to do not thinking that I had to SELECT if FIRST.

I said at the outset that I was Word challenged and if that annoys you then just ignore my post.

Have you had a C-section?
I don't know about you, but I took the full eight weeks off that is alloted for a c-section. I was in incredible pain. I can't imagine only taking two weeks off. Then again, I also worked another job that actually gave me disability checks so I guess I'm in a different boat altogether. I also had a tubal ligation at the same time. I was in the hospital for almost a week and I coudn't walk for at least a month without severe pain. I guess I'm just a wimp. LOL.
C-section

Hee-hee!  I have a funny one, too.  My dictator says routinely "I sent the patient to see the breast-feeding nurses."  All I can visualize is nurses sitting in a room, breast-feeding!

oh our lovely government does give illegals medicaid, foodstamps, and housing so in term we give tha
i have been through some rough times lately and had to apply for some help. there are signs, big signs, all over our offices saying "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LEGAL TO GET HELP". so we and our government do give them our benefits whether they are legal here or not. now that is messed up. i am helping to support them so they can take away my jobs and i can't even support my kids and yes i get benefits, wow $75 a month in food stamps which lasts not even a week in a household of 6. don't get me wrong, i am thankful for any help at the moment, but i get penalized for trying to work my tail off and still can't survive.

there was recently an article in our local newspaper where one of our local school districts tried to charge $1000 a year for each illegal student enrolled. it was bulked and the illegals got a lawyer to sue for discrimination. the school district merely stated that they had to HIRE extra teachers that could speak the foreign language just to teach these children and were trying to offset some of the expenses. ridicilous!! so again our taxpayers money is paying to educate illegals as well.
There is a medicolegal section on
the job board . . . rarely any new jobs there, but if you go to the Job Seeker's Board and then Job Bank, it is one of the choices there.
Two weeks, c-section.
No one else to cover for me. I took it slow and accounts were patient with me--it helps that one was an ob/gyn. :)
found this in the help section--sm
You might have done one of the following:
Inserted a manual page break (page break: The point at which one page ends and another begins. Microsoft Word inserts an "automatic" (or soft) page break for you, or you can force a page break at a specific location by inserting a "manual" (or hard) page break.). Switch to normal view (normal view: A view that shows text formatting and a simplified page layout. Normal view is convenient for most editing and formatting tasks.), select the manual page break, and then press DELETE.

Set a pagination option. The following pagination options (Keep lines together, Keep with next, or Page break before) control where automatic page breaks occur.

To remove the pagination formats from text, select the paragraph following the unwanted page break, click Paragraph on the Format menu, and then click the Line and Page Breaks tab. If necessary, clear the Keep lines together, Keep with next, and Page break before check boxes.

Inserted a section break (section break: A mark you insert to show the end of a section. A section break stores the section formatting elements, such as the margins, page orientation, headers and footers, and sequence of page numbers.). The Next page, Even page, or Odd page section break automatically breaks the page.

To prevent a section break from breaking the page, click in the section (section: A portion of a document in which you set certain page formatting options. You create a new section when you want to change such properties as line numbering, number of columns, or headers and footers.) immediately following the section break, and then click Page Setup on the File menu. Click the Layout tab, and then click Continuous in the Section start box.

Inserted a column break. A column break inserted in the last column of a page will act as a page break. Select the column break, and then press DELETE.

There is an entire section on this

Is there a new format on Forum Section

or am I the only one experiencing this....

about two or three days ago, I've noticed that when I go to the main board, other forum or topic options were not listed on the blue portion of the page, and it feels weird to go back to the home page every time I want to change topic/section.

Get Turbo Tax, it has a whole section for this and asks you if you have this, this, that...sm
By using this I found 2 deductions I had no idea I could take.

Going back to work after c-section
I returned to work two weeks after my c-section working 6 hours per day. I however made sure to get out of the chair frequently so as to not get so stiff from sitting for so long, which does happen so soon after a c-section. I wouldn't go back to soon though, as it can be very stressful with a new baby and a job to tend to on top of it all.
According to the Answers.com section of Monster.com
"Dr. Phil McGraw won a football scholarship and played as a linebacker for the University of Tulsa, but when he was injured he quit and transferred to Midwestern State University. He graduated with a B.A. in psychology in 1975, and went on to get his PhD. from the University of North Texas in 1979. He is also a pilot, with a multi-engine rating."

. . . . and what are your educational credentials, my dear?
I use a plastic storage bin and cut a section out for him to ...sm

get in and out.  I do not use the lid.  It has nice, high sides, room to turn around and I usually try to keep 3 inches of liter in it.

I have 2 other 'regular' size cats who use the standard liter boxes just fine but my big guy only uses his big, roomy custom box.  I also replace it about every 5-6 months.  I wish you and your kitty all the best!

Please let us know what the vet says.

Either create it in the header section of

page set up or use a hard return after it and a page break at the end. Center text below the hard return but above the page break and leave a regular line at the bottom of the page.  I would then copy it and paste it however many times I needed a report for then go back to the first and start filling in.

Hope this helps.

In Word, under the Tools section there
is a place for language set. Have you tried this??
There is a church in Gonzales that is a small church but housing evacuees.

Helping a small church could be the best way to help someone.

Their web page says they need everything from personal items to clothing and bedding to food and water, don't forget first aid supplies.  They said you could send money but there's nothing there to buy anyway.

The address is:

Gonzales Church of Christ

1225 South Purpura

Gonzales, LA  70737

Bigger churches have more people, it's the small churches that need outside help and don't qualify for Red Cross or anyone else to help but people like us.

Try melatonin over-the-counter in your vitamin section.
Doctors I worked with got me hooked on it. They said they used it themselves.  Doctors know the side effects of chemical drugs and steer away from them when it comes to taking drugs.  Anyway do a search on Google about melatonin.  It may work for you and it really has no side effects for me, like the grogginess prescription drugs give you the morning after you take a pill to sleep.
I was working PT at home one week after my C-section and
probably working FT by third week, though can't remember exactly.   I did have a flexible schedule and I had a very good baby.   I worked where I could and weekends.
They are in the roll section ( I have seen them with the bakery rolls too)

802.11 refers to IEEE code section.
These are the people who write the specs for how wireless works. 802.11a is the first generation, 802.11b, second, etc. The latest, I believe, is now 802.11g. While speed is important, and improved in the newer generations, it's also important to know what protocol the router uses as some types are not compatible. Your best bet would be to read up on the subject online by trying a site like www.howstuffworks.com. Do a search for wireless networking.
Not mentioned in the virgule section in the BOS. I've

Re: Limited warranty on Equipment (stars); their legal people pretty much covered their ass. However, based on my experience with IPs, if you keep plugging away (it may takes months), eventually they will tire, thus removing said charges. Again, be prepared for a long battle and make sure to document everything, and I do mean everything. Please keep me posted.
Check Best Buy, business computer section...
I got a Lenovo laptop with XP on it, dropped the Vista all together. The business part of Best Buy has so many computers and laptops to choose from...don't just go by the floor models, they have many others to choose from.
Try the "support" section of the manufacturer's website.
Meanwhile... my favorite cure for just about everything, that seems to work more often than not, is to shut everything down, and I do mean everything--turn off the printer, turn off the computer it's attached to, take out the paper and put it back in, maybe even take out the ink cartridge and put it back in, maybe even disconnect the printer (with the power OFF!) and reconnect it; then turn everything back on, in the normal order, and see if that cures the problem. Sometimes when things haven't been powered down in a while, or a computer hasn't been shut down and restarted, things can get confused internally. No, that's not a very technical explanation, but I once had a programmer tell me to shut down and reboot the server at least once a month because if you don't, it "can't find the top of its own desk." (Guess that IS a technical explanation.)

If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you... try tech support on the manufacturer's website.
got the "phone call" -- get this, MQ has hired a bunch of telemarketers to call all of us to

we received our "incentive packet."  They don't even have the wherewithall to contact us personally.   These are temp-agency hired telemarketers sitting around a boiler room making sure we're reading our mail.... told him it don't pertain to me because I've been demoted from FT to SE.... He said, "yes, the letter is vague, but it does pertain to FT as well as SE...." yeah right, we'll see.
