I use Word 2003 and I have text boxes I jump to using the F11 key. I have no idea what I did, but

using the F11 key, but I want to see the boxes where I enter the text.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

TIA

I find you do tend to skip maybe a word sometimes when you dont reread. I guess

your brain doesnt keep up or something.  I dont know what causes that.

Ctrl + F9 adds the field brackets - F11 jumps to the field.

they all have their own boxes plus
she is in another part of the house with her own food and water separate from the others to make sure everyone gets enough of everything. she spends the majority of the day outside, comes in for a snack and straight back to the door to go out again. over night she has her own bedroom so that there isn't any trouble over night.
Hi PP - there are still 2 boxes left....sm

wanna come visit and have some truffles?  *lolol*  Congrats to your DAUGHTER!!!!  Smart cookie she is!!

My daughter has a beau for 6 years now and they are engaged and very serious.  It's MOM (me) who questions *if it isn't broken, don't fix it* - *LOL* - but I'm 200 percent behind them and am very supportive.....I just FEAR marriage (after one very_long bad experience) and yet I try not to put that on her.  *grin*

Well you and I are about 15 miles apart....just a hop, skip, and a jump for you, eh?  *HAHAHAHAHA*

Be well, sugar!!!

The three boxes are supposed to
look like that. That is normal. You do not have to X and close them. What are you trying to change on your monitor?
big kitties and litter boxes
I have three cats and one of them is a very big (long) Himalayan who always manages somehow to go on the edge of his litter box or hit the floor, so I have put a scatter rug under his litter box and I purchased a longer litter box.  I tried the ones with the tops and he could not fit in it, so I just make sure he hits the box and if not clean the rug of the litter or debris on it.  I don't let any of my three cats out because our vet told me it is not a good idea here with coyotes and rabies, so they are all in the house.  I also always make sure the litter box is clean for all of them to use.  I found with multiple cats that Cat's Pride scoopable is the best.  My vets recommends shreaded paper if you have one or two cats.  I tried that with three but what a mess that was, and out of all the litter out there on the market, the Cat's Pride Scoopable is the best for my cats.
Over the door lock boxes
I pick up work from a local family practice and our schedules conflict a lot of times.  It is hard to be there exactly when the doctor finishes his dictation and they forget to give me a 30-minute warning since I am about 30 minutes away.  Sometimes I have to make a trip every day to fit his schedule.  Does anyone know where I can buy an over the door lock box (like what Lab Corp uses to leave blood work, etc.)?  I would love for him to leave the transcription tapes, etc., in the box and I pick up and drop off on my schedule so I can get to the work faster and also pick up after office hours.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
At my apartment complex, our post boxes are
in a large mail kiosk and I can sort my mail right there, open everything and throw away all trash before ever getting back in my car or walking back to my apartment. Anything unnecessary never makes it to (1) my purse (used to be a bad habit of mine), (2) my car (used to be another bad habit of mine), or (3) my apartment. It really is amazing how much paper is wasted on advertisements that I'm not even interested in, envelopes, etc.

It can be very stressful to have all that stuff staring at you on the desk, demanding more of your time.

Some boxes, like Mrs. Smith's pies, say distributed by
Schwann company in So. Carolina, but they are all made in Mexico (my cousin is long distance truck driver, sees them transferring the boxes from 1 truck to another.) Fig Newtons made in Mexico. Big problem with the border guards from US because their uniforms and ID badges made in Mexico and many of them are stolen or sold in Mexico which allows access of illegals into US. Nothing is made in US anymore.
Might be meaning the 3 boxes left upper corner??
the 3 little square boxed in the right hand corner, see them. The middle one makes a bigger screen. Unclick it and it goes back to regular size. This this what you meant.
Check your boxes and stuff for some sort of customer service...
I think you got a bad one. Return.
you were able to skip
I have worked for MQ for 10 years. Started with them after 10 years of ESL experience. I got 3 cents more a line when I started with them than the local company here paid. I was never able to skip any report. Transcribed what I got, I did! I agree with previous poster about getting paid for experience. Experience is what counts in my book! I CAN transcribe the ESL dictators. I SHOULD be paid MORE for those reports. If I spent all day doing dictation that was perfect - clear, good speakers, no backing up, waiting, etc., I would make a killing in the money department. But, having to spend all day transcribing ESL, whose dictation gets worse by the day, I make nothing. I am making too little for way too much effort. I got the phone call the other day. They left a message on the answering machine. He was so bored as he read from his script! I could tell him as much as he told me in the message. What a waste of money for MQ to do this. Must have been a business expense.
4 yo Papillon - Mr. Skip
I call him a Dat - a dog-cat combo.  He has a wide vocabulary of human words that he knows.  He's particularly responsive to the words cheese burger and pizza.
Is this an every 3 second type skip? s/m
I get many files from different places and it seems from one client in particular, sometimes I will get a 3-second skip on files.  Once the skip starts, I have to close the file, close Start/stop, delete the file from my system and then re-download the file.  This seems to take care of the problem, but some days it doesn't.  I have no idea the reason why, but this is just what I do.
Unfortunately, CS seems to be the easiest debt to skip out on
You'll get into more trouble if you bounce a $25 check. I have used one of those private agencies because my ex had moved out of state and once that happens, if the ex doesn't want to pay and moves around in jobs, you can pretty much forget about getting anything.

The private agency works a lot faster, but the contracts are very complicated and you are pretty much signing up for the life of the CS obligation; otherwise there has be nonpayment of CS for a year before you can end the contract. And yes they take a big chunk of money but at the time I thought it was better than getting nothing at all.

But in the end, once payments have been established, the private agency ends up filtering the payment through your local CSEA anyway.

I think your best bet is to use some kind of locator service and if you can get a good address provide that to your local CSEA.

I wish they had an "America's Most Wanted" for deadbeat dads/moms. It's amazing to me that it is seemingly so easy to stop paying, change jobs, and just not be found.
Skip the games but here's an idea sm
My friend had a baby shower. The invite asked everyone to bring a pack of diapers to be entered in a $40 gift certificate for Applebees. She left with a HUGE bag filled with diapers. That was the game if you want to call it a game.
Not worth the trouble - skip it
Create a new tradition with your kids.
If they're vegetarians, skip the dip.

My neices are both vegetarians. Check out Vegweb.com for tons of vegetarian recipes.

SCIP or SKIP protocol
Has anyone ever heard of SCIP or SKIP protocol? This is a surgeon talking about prophylactic antibiotics. I have found on the internet SCIP protocol for skin care intervention program but am not sure if this is reliable info. Does anyone know which way to spell this/what this is and have a source to back it up?

I agree. I'd skip the school SM
altogether. It might take a while to find a training position doing MT, but not nearly as long as the school, and nothing matches actually doing the work to learn. As suggested, I would take--and nail!--a terminology course at the very least. I started with on-the-job training, but I took anatomy and physiology courses in night school. True, the labs spent hacking up various parts of a cadaver with nursing and premed students and studying tissues under the microscope were overkill for what we do, but I definitely recommend skipping the expensive trade school and taking courses at a local college, or on line perhaps?
Easy enough to just skip over subjects that don't interest you? NM

Also, at times I'll skip a job due to length, not
If I know I've only got 30 more minutes to work and have to leave, I'll skip over a 25-minute long file, regardless of the ease/difficulty factor, so I like that we have the option. I can finish a few more shorter reports for the client that way whereas I might have otherwise logged off altogether. BUT, I also do my fair share of the hard ESLs and long files at the beginning of shift. I used to be 100% against skipping any files, but OTOH, if someone knows they can't do that ESL's work, maybe it's best for someone who CAN to take them on so the reports are more accurate. I would at least hope that the MTs have given it a good effort first though. I agree this might not be abused as much if MTSOs would pay for difficulty factor, though.
And supposedly they are to be fired for that on DQS. I bet they are. They break the report and skip
to the next one on DQS. I get it all the time and I report it and guess what, nothing happens to them but I figure they will hang themselves eventually. They inevitably drop off the account because they really cant do it anyway.
Skip the games - focus on the mom-to-be. I HATE going to those showers. nm

Just skip over it.. A little lively debate spices things up.

Actually, it is quite easy to skip jobs, and I work for a national. sm

Depending upon the account, just press the appropriate number on the C-phone, and *poof* you're at the next job.  In my case, I have no "proof" per se, but when jobs skip from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. then to 1 p.m., etc., and then it gets back to "normal" when you get to the non-ESL docs where I guess they stopped working.  it's not too hard to figure out that someone took what they wanted and left the rest.  It doesn't matter to me.  As has been stated, the MT who cherrypicks cheats himself/herself out of the chance to master everything and assure himself/herself of a larger pool of work.  That goes also for those who limit themselves to only certain work types.  Sure, we all have our preferences (I prefer admit notes and consults), but if you can do everything, then you're more likely not to be one of the ones coming here complaining of no work.

Just my opinion, and you know we all have one.  Happy Friday the 13th!   I have the weekend off for once, and it is actually beautiful weather here.  Yippee!

It means to skip the jobs in your work queue that - sm
are by difficult dictators, or have no line-count-bolstering templates, or require too much backing up, re-listening, sentence restructuring, or nose-in-reference time to get in your minimum lines. That's especially true if the employer doesn't weight the job's pay by difficulty. Most MTs voice disapproval of the practice, but sometimes an gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do, in order to survive and make that next car payment, rent check, or grocery bill.
the USPS supplies boxes and supplies free of charge..but you have to "order" it sm
by phone.  I'll see if I can find it.  What is sent to soldiers is what is allowed by military protocol..beef jerky would not be allowed in a country that considers beef sacred.  They (military) strongly enforce being considerate of the countrys culture.  within those guidelines, send anything..if the recipient does not want it..it goes on a public area and free for all to share..they love doing it too.
Skip it. No one cares. Either you're good on the test or you're not.

Skip Christmas Day and do drinks/snacks Christmas
Eve and spend a peaceful Christmas doing whatever it is you want to do.  If you're all of 47 years old you're evidently a slow learner  : )
Not new to the field either. Been there and seen it. (sm)
However, routing is NOT ALWAYS the only problem. Times when bonuses are out show a vast difference in dictators that are left to type and number sequence of the jobs. There are some who do cherry pick and return these jobs to pool. In a smaller hospital setting this was not so prominent because others could see it, print out a report and show the boss who would address it in one way or another.

Unfortunately, we are such big organizations now and the people in the digital rooms are just worried about keeping TAT that they don't care who does it as long as it gets done.

Then world is not a perfect place and you cannot be pleasant and assume good things will happen always. People do cheat, people do send back reports they don't make good money on.

It certainly is not the company I am distressed about, it is the few (or I assume just a few) little prima donnas who are doing this "me, me, me" thing. You can choose your company, you just can't choose your co-workers.

Until a wand comes down from the Heaven's and casts a Pollyana spell on all of us, I don't think your new attitude idea will work.
are you new to this field or are you just
uninformed?  A few months back, the AAMT subject was brought up on this board.  One single question was asked:  What has the AAMT done to help improve the pay and overall career for the American MT?  After days, I don't think there was one, single positive post to that question.  Oh, yes for sure, there was a lot of "spin" but not one direct positive answer.  Do you know something we don't?  If so, could you please share it with us?
Welcome to the field!
I've been in the field for about 22 years. Stedmans Words Books are a great resource and easy to use. Google words when you get stuck and best of luck!!! Stay away from Amherst....
another field
I often think about another field as I am tired of transcribing (going on 9 years now) and then there is asking my PS questions and its like pulling teeth to get an answer because honestly I don't think she knows and also not feeling like I'm being pay for what I feel is a hard day's work.  So maybe for me something in the beauty industry like esthetician where your also providing a service for people that want to feel good about themselves.
What field? (nm)
.
how best to get into the field
Hello. I am reading the messages about certification, AHDI, AAMT, etc and see that you have a very reasonable message. My sister wants to get into the MT field and I want to help her as much as I can. What would you recommend in today's employment outlook, for her to do to pursue this? I was steering her towards accredited schooling and the RMT or CMT, but after reading this Board, I am now very confused!
I'm currently looking to get out of the MT field too
I can see it going down hill really quick and it worries me. I don't know what I will do if MTing isnt around even long enough for me to get out of the field first. I wouldn't just go get any job though. I would need to go to school for something so I can make sure I would be making more money than I do now and have better insurance and benefits. I would love a job where I could just work 8 hours a day. Some days I sit here from 8 am to 8 pm or later just to get enough lines in to pay my bills. It sucks and I'm sick of doing it.

I don't know if any particular field is more difficult
than the next, if all you do is type one speciality. I think ER and Psych are mentally hard because with ER a lot of the patients die and it is depressing and then psych is depressing because of the severe dysfunction of the patients and/or their families. Oncology can be depressing too cause outcomes are not always great and like the previous poster said frequent new meds.

I used to transcribe for a teaching hospital connected to a medical school and that dictation was very hard, much more technical than your normal hospital, lots more dictators too and a new crop every July.
I wish I had read this BEFORE getting in the field
It may have been great once, but it looks like dog meat now.
Returning to MT field

I went through a training program and then worked one year for a national - Spheris.  Had some health issues (and a young son paying daycare for) so gave my notice and got done.  That was several years ago.  My son is now in kindergarten and want to do medical transcription again.

What is IC and how does that work?  Do all nationals have this?  How does part time work for most of these companies?

Any hints on brushing up on my skills before I return.

Thank you for your help,

Hopeful MT

But you have to look deep down within you and ask why you are even in this field and
why being an SE is so important to you? To be honest, I've been an MT for quite a while and an SE MT for MQ for over 6 years now. The flexibility has been, well, too good to be true. I, too, can say that I haven't been a perfect MT because I havent keep to my "schedule" even though I have on as an SE. I just pretty much come and go as I please. Can you honestly say you do the same with your company? And are you with MQ? Well, that is just not really fair to them, if you really want to dig down and get honest here. They need to know that their clients will be covered all around the clock and their SEs just really are not consistent and I think all companies need consistency. It's funny, I am in the process of looking for another job, and have interviewed with quite a few folks and once they decide they want me - it's all about - hours, hours, hours. When can you work, what time of day can you start, can you work weekends, can we have that in writing?
Ok, I just had an ENTIRE post of great advice on 401 K programs for part-timers and it got deleted in this very post! That stinks!!!!!

Bottom line is: If you are an SE MT you have nothing invested and when you want to retire you will have nothing. It is sad. No one in my family who is retired or going to be retired have 401 KS and they will be living off the govt. or me, or other working family members. I don't want to be them in 20-30 years. Don't count on Social Security ladies! (and gents).

My husband works for a large corporation and they project when he retires (they send us followups monthly) that when he retires we will be millionares. Well, that sounds great, but what if leaves me for another woman? It happens everyday. And then where will that leave me and my kids? We are devout Christians and I know he is committed, but you just never know. I've seen church members leave their spouses before. I ain't takin the chance! Hence, I will seriously consider investing in 401 as a part time employee (first time in my life) just so that I can have some kind of cushion when I retire, even if its just 30, 40, or 50,000! Hey, if MQ is willing to match earnings, etc, why not? Why just take them for a paycheck? You should seriously, seriously consider all your options if you are an SE, which is what I am right now, and start protecting your future. Especially if you are stay at home mom with little kids. I am a Christian and I feel really led to start doing this. Don't just transcribe your little heart out so that in 20 years you have nothing to show for it.
SE is GREAT for flexibility. But it is NOT a great long-term thing to do to ourselves.
For PT MQers to qualify for 401 k, you have to work a minimum of 1,000 hours a year. You figure out the math. I don't have the time right now! Keep on keeping on girls.

Have not in MT field, but in other fields
and how many of us women are the sole support of our families?  Many...
Me too! Too much uncertainty in the MT field...sm

and too much potential in nursing. I have a small MTSO and since I'm getting a salary and can set a flexible schedule, I'm getting my BSN. Our state college only has a full time program. 1000 people applied and 70 got in. If you didn't have a 3.50, you didn't get in. The curricula is incredibly tough. I'm pretty smart but this is very challenging. Yet I am finding out I love the challenges too. Working as an MT is a definite plus. Everybody! comes to me to ask me how to spell things, including the instructors :) and I was the only person in the class who knew what a pheochromocytoma was. (I have lots of other medical background too including medical assistant, paramedic, etc. but listening to thousands of medical reports teaches you an immense amount.) Not to mention my charting is impeccable.

My main plan is to go on and get an Advanced Practice Nurse degree (master's) so I can work in primary care in the physicians' offices. Good luck to you. and Email me with any more questions.

Leaving MT field?
I feel for you and can understand all your concerns. I think there are areas out there with great demands like teaching, nursing (get your LPN or CNA to get started in the field), radiology technology or a shorter schooling experience would be for medical coding, though won't be surpised if technology takes that job away too! You can become a certified phlebotomist and get started in the lab work area. These areas are just the tip of the iceberg, but change can be done and is not impossible. Good luck!
esthetician field.

At least from what i've researched.  Starting pay is enough to live on.

If you find out how to get into this field--
Would you mind sharing on this forum? I think it sounds interesting, but I don't know who you would contact, either.

Field Codes
Not sure if this is what you mean, but if you place field codes (CTRL + F9) in the appropriate places in your template, you can jump to them by pressing F11.
