by phone.  I'll see if I can find it.  What is sent to soldiers is what is allowed by military protocol..beef jerky would not be allowed in a country that considers beef sacred.  They (military) strongly enforce being considerate of the countrys culture.  within those guidelines, send anything..if the recipient does not want it..it goes on a public area and free for all to share..they love doing it too.

Webmedx supplies all equipment. They do have a (sm)
pretty high ratio of ESLs, but the QA is really good here. They DO NOT penalize for blanks or sending reports to QA. I don't know about family insurance, but single is very reasonable, BCBS. They also offer dental and vision.

Why is it that court reports are so well respected and their pay never an issue?

I feel like I am stealing when I ask to be compensated for my knowledge, experience and reliability. It is basically the same work, one is in legal field and one in medical field. What is up with that????

Keep in mind that if gas supplies are low, how will trucks get their loads to the store.
It's a good idea to stock up now. We went to Sam's Club tonight. Bought 25 pounds of sugar, 10 pounds of flour, 10 pounds of beans, 4 large jars of peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, powdered milk, etc. If those damaged pipelines aren't put back on line fast, there may be shortages.

Just be sure to buy things your family will actually eat. Don't forget to store water. Prep as if you're expecting to be off the grid for a month or more.

To learn more about prepping, Google "survival."

Unless we are transcribing, we are losing money. This is why a relative decent line rate is not asking for a lot, I believe.

True but that is to cover the expenses like rent, office supplies, sm
manager salaries. That does not include payroll that is based on service.

A good example woould be this: You are starting a book store. You need to plan the original inventory and six months worth of expenses. If you sell that inventory, you use the money from that to buy more books. If you do not sell any at first, you can stay in business for six months while you get noticed.

With transcription or any service business, you need enough in the bank to cover the same expenses, those that can keep you afloat while building your client base. However, you only hire more people as you get more customers. The payroll does not figure into the 6 months as it is based on what you provide, whereas the 6 months takes into account what it takes to get it going even if you do not have 1 employee.

Very, very few companies can have $800,000 lying around. If they did, they probably would need to invest it in equipment or spend it in other ways or the IRS would consider it profit and tax the heck out of it!

you get the picture. I don't do the home office deduction though because we keep saying we are going to build on a lot we have and things get screwed up with taxes due to this, something with depreciation, not really sure, know someone who had this problem though, owed a lot back. When we do move, then I will take it since I know it won't be an issue then. I write off about $2-$3K a year which helps some. Was paying quartly but have not done it in 2 years as I usually don't owe more than $1200 and my husband has extra taken out of his pay, so that has always, so far, taken care of any taxes I have "owed". -- Check out the IRS website they have plenty of info on the subject.

Question
Military Care Package Kit

Answer
Since Priority Mail® supplies are the packaging of choice for families preparing care packages for service members overseas, the USPS® has created a "Mili-kit" based on the items most frequently requested by the military.

The kit contains:

Three (3) each of flat rate boxes O-FRB1 and O-FRB2
Two each of Cube boxes OBOX4 and OBOX7
Address labels - Label # 228 10 each
One roll of Priority Mail tape
15 customs forms with envelopes.
The kit may be requested by calling 1-800-610-8734 (Packing Supply) and:

Choose your language (1 is English, 2 is Spanish).
Choose option 1 (it states it is for Express Mail®, Priority Mail or Global Express Guaranteed® products).
When you reach a live agent, request CAREKIT04.
Please allow 7-10 days for delivery.
Note: These are free supplies, postage must be affixed.

FYI MPCount no longer free of charge

MPCount is now MPTools.  You get a free trial (4 or 5 uses, I think) before deciding to purchase or not.  It offers a LOT more than the previous MPCount program.  Here is the link:  http://www.mpword.com/mptools.htm

PayPal is free to "use" but they charge a fee for all funds received... sm
not for transferring funds to your bank account. Open your account and go to the very bottom of the screen and click on the Fees link to see what they charge. They have a help section and a toll free number to call if you have other questions.

Your MTSO was very misleading by not telling you about the fees that have always been connected to receiving money this way. It doesn't cost them to send money, but it certainly does cost the recipient to receive it. That's how PayPal makes their money and the MTSO must know that.

fedex/usps
I have encountered this scenario as there are still "tapes" floating around out there. I have had docs and other professionals send me tapes by FedEx and United States Postal Service (next day) which is considerably cheaper than FedEx, and for security purposes I make sure that the items require a signature, and not that they are simply dropped on my doorstep. And upon return by email, I've used a variety of email programs and file transfers etc. and beyond encryption, you can also leave the patient info off in places where if the files were intercepted, there would be no names or social security numbers. So, while this may seem like an archaic way to still be doing business, not everyone is up to speed with FTPs or using digital recordings that can be more easily transferred. So, it comes to the point where you are just making sure that you and the doctor (or other such client) are doing your very best to keep security at top-notch. I know local transcriptionists who still have "lockboxes" on their doors or mailboxes for tape and document dropoff, and so it's not an entirely digital world yet, so we just have to do the very best we can with security with what we are dealing with. Good luck with your account, and I'm serious USPS (next day) is far cheaper than FedEx and works in most areas for daily deliveries, and will save you and your client a few pennies.

big kitties and litter boxes
I have three cats and one of them is a very big (long) Himalayan who always manages somehow to go on the edge of his litter box or hit the floor, so I have put a scatter rug under his litter box and I purchased a longer litter box.  I tried the ones with the tops and he could not fit in it, so I just make sure he hits the box and if not clean the rug of the litter or debris on it.  I don't let any of my three cats out because our vet told me it is not a good idea here with coyotes and rabies, so they are all in the house.  I also always make sure the litter box is clean for all of them to use.  I found with multiple cats that Cat's Pride scoopable is the best.  My vets recommends shreaded paper if you have one or two cats.  I tried that with three but what a mess that was, and out of all the litter out there on the market, the Cat's Pride Scoopable is the best for my cats.
Over the door lock boxes
I pick up work from a local family practice and our schedules conflict a lot of times.  It is hard to be there exactly when the doctor finishes his dictation and they forget to give me a 30-minute warning since I am about 30 minutes away.  Sometimes I have to make a trip every day to fit his schedule.  Does anyone know where I can buy an over the door lock box (like what Lab Corp uses to leave blood work, etc.)?  I would love for him to leave the transcription tapes, etc., in the box and I pick up and drop off on my schedule so I can get to the work faster and also pick up after office hours.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
At my apartment complex, our post boxes are
in a large mail kiosk and I can sort my mail right there, open everything and throw away all trash before ever getting back in my car or walking back to my apartment. Anything unnecessary never makes it to (1) my purse (used to be a bad habit of mine), (2) my car (used to be another bad habit of mine), or (3) my apartment. It really is amazing how much paper is wasted on advertisements that I'm not even interested in, envelopes, etc.

It can be very stressful to have all that stuff staring at you on the desk, demanding more of your time.

Some boxes, like Mrs. Smith's pies, say distributed by
Schwann company in So. Carolina, but they are all made in Mexico (my cousin is long distance truck driver, sees them transferring the boxes from 1 truck to another.) Fig Newtons made in Mexico. Big problem with the border guards from US because their uniforms and ID badges made in Mexico and many of them are stolen or sold in Mexico which allows access of illegals into US. Nothing is made in US anymore.
In Word I can't see my field boxes anymore that I use F11 to skip around to. Does anyone know ho

Might be meaning the 3 boxes left upper corner??
the 3 little square boxed in the right hand corner, see them. The middle one makes a bigger screen. Unclick it and it goes back to regular size. This this what you meant.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Check your boxes and stuff for some sort of customer service...
I think you got a bad one. Return.
you don't have to charge $60/HR - all you have to do is charge a good rate and then..
work smart, not hard. If you have a great dictator, charge him 14 cpl on a 65 char gross line, then set up your templates and word expanders, you can make $80/hr. But you need all three to work together, otherwise you might only be making $60/hr. Some people are just really good at what they do - shouldn't they make more if they are more productive?
I'd still charge by line, just charge a lower
rate, like maybe 8 cpl.  Do you have to pickup and deliver work?    You could also setup a one-month contract until you see how it goes and then you can figure out the best way to charge and go from there.  You could also charge a flat rate per page and keep it fairly low.
One office I charge .12, another I charge $2.25 page--nm

I have used this for years and have compared to Sylvan, Word, and MP Count, etc. When you have it set to count every character, bold, shift, tab, etc. It is great and always higher than the others. Now if you are wanting gross lines like in Word then no it won't be as high because Word counts blanks lines and Abacus counts a line only if there is a character on it. There is also two places to check for it to count the Headers/Footers. If you have the FREE version then it must be the trial or a very old version so you don't have all the features and functions.

Okay well if you are going to charge 10 cpl..what do your MTs get?
Maybe they are looking out for the little people getting paid a little more?? I see a lot of aspects of this you haven't researched. Ask questions, learn from their decisions so you are better prepared next time.
how much do you charge?

What should I charge?
I've never solicited my own accounts before, but my fiance's sister called me yesterday asking if I'd be interested in transcribing some letters for the dermatologist she works for. I said sure, since I'd like to go all independent, and this is a good way to try it out. Only problem is, I'm not sure what to charge. I'll be using the doctor's transcriber (she uses tapes, and I don't have a tape player), and it isn't decided yet whether I'll be emailing the completed letters to her, or printing them myself. What would be an average rate?
Is there a law on this? Don't think there is; not sure. You should be able to charge whatever U w

What I Charge
I also work for an insurance company doing claim tapes. I charge $3.00 a page. My reports can vary anywhere from a few pages up to 25 pages, which I actually did last night (I don't think I've done any longer than that). I'm not sure if this helps or not. I use Tahoma 10 with the margins the same as what you're using.
I get 9 CPL for a nat'l, and charge 12 CPL...nm

I charge
12 cents per line, 65 character line. With HIPAA issues, don't forget better grab yourself a carrier that reports will fit in to take back--one that locks. This is very important in case you are in an accident taking their reports back. It happens.
charge them as much as you can sm
I would charge per gross line, that means every line counts, no matter what. Depends on the reports, but why not start with 12 cents a gross line. Don't under sell yourself. You'll be killing yourself for pennies. good luck.
What to charge for something like this?
I have had this account for 5 years now and they have made a change to the format of their report.  The first page is basically a template with check boxes.  The other three pages are figured out by 65 character count.  Being that there isn't much I'm doing to the first page (checking maybe 5-8 boxes and adding little blurbs once in awhile), but I am printing this page out.  Any ideas?  I hope I'm making sense!  Thanks much in advance.
mt-what to charge?

I work at a mental health clinic as a transcriptionist/records person.  A coworker asked if I would be interested in making some extra cash by typing some documents for him and his buddies that are in college.  I am interested but have no idea WHAT TO CHARGE? 1 cent per word?  i have no idea please help.

What to charge? Please sm...

I was approached by a family doctor to do some typing for his very small company. He indicated that there are 2 other doctors in his office. I am thinking about taking the offer, but I'm just not sure how much to charge them. I noticed on the job boards that MTs are now being paid on an average of 0.07 cpl. How much more of this would I need to charge in order to actually profit from doing this? I currently get paid 0.12 cpl at a company I am working for, so what would be appropriate for me to charge these doctors then? I'm so confused.
