It's really not a great idea to disable Windows updates. Just because updates are scheduled to be

In Reply to: yep - my PS said not to load it and I disabled - automatic windows updates too...nm

installed, does not mean 7.0 will be automatically installed on your pc.  You will always receive a notification when installing anything other than critical updates, which 7.0 is not.

MS Word has updates, just as Windows does. Have you
.
I have it - it works great and updates daily, unlike
Norton and/or McAfee, BOTH of which allowed viruses to infect my computer. I won't spend any more of my hard-earned dollars on either. If you register with Avast, you can have their service free for 13 months. It runs in the background and checks literally everything, including net, email and any attachments that come with emails.

click "Microsoft Update"

click "Express"

you have to do this in Internet Explorer.
updates
the whole software was installed via net, and they say there has been no problem ever with that with other users, and it seems this is the latest software they are having.
They don't do yearly updates and never have. If you must
get hysterical about something at least get the real information about what you are carrying on about. Statements like this just make folks dismiss what you are saying because you don't know what you are talking about.
Anyone more updates on MQ bankruptcy?
When I read that note on this board a week or two ago, it got me really worried.  I'm working really hard right now training on a new MQ account, and the thought of losing my job in the near future makes me want to cry.  Any feedback out there?  Does anyone know what's going on?
Go to CNN.com for all of your news updates.
I also get my local newspaper online free.  Why pay and kill trees when the highlights are all on the internet?
Automatic updates, or
http://www.microsoft.com/dst2007

You may have to update your calendaring programs and some cell phones as well.

Did security updates; seems all better now. -- nm

I have an HP and intermittently get updates for it...sm
Might try that before you uninstall and reinstall. Good luck!
Waiting for what? They don't do yearly updates.
What else is there to say? But if you want to keep on whining about something that is untrue be my guest.
Stedman's with the yearly updates. nm
s
I was only going to get the book, but no more online updates. sm
You need to get the CD in order to get updates. Ellen Drake said on www.mtchat.com that the CD is much better than last year's.
It will still work, but will not allow you to receive updates.
.
I use Avast...it updates almost every day and runs in the background....
all the time. If I get an email attachment within attachment from forwards, it checks all of them before I even open it. It's a free program, too.
Thanks! Do you have a spellcheck that includes drug updates?

The Stedman's and then you buy the yearly updates afterward. nm
s
Thanks for the updates, glad to hear things
are going well for you. Go to church together, even if you split. Life can get better. God bless!
Has anyone updated yet to the new version of XP to 7.0 on updates and how does it work.
:
I have used Spellex for years never had a problem with the updates
I'm sorry to hear that. To each his/her own. I have used Spellex for years never had a problem with the updates. I would encourage anyone to try out software before you buy it.
Need to load some microsoft updates, need assistance here
I was told to go to microscoft and upload the latest - got the information to go to windows and click the express button and download and install. Where in the heck is the express button? Don’t see that anywhere. Thanks.
If you have not switched over to the new website for MQ updates call 800 dictate and get that done
and you will find that news on there.
Where I am, using Winscribe, the supervisor on duty routine gives updates (sm)
with who is working on a particular account, how many jobs there are, if any have been kicked back (she/he can tell as they are out of sequence, obviously taken into someones local queue and then returned to the pool. The name of those working at any given time is announced, this lets us know if someone comes on board during unscheduled hours without clocking in.

It is great for me as I follow the rules. We are not to take jobs into the local queue (cherrypicking) and we are not to work outside of scheduled hours unless it is granted and there is ample work for the person coming on board so they do not take away from the regularly scheduled MTs. I love my job!
Mine sends daily volume updates

How many of you that use computers know how to do updates, repairs, clean up viruses, etc?
Just because I work every day using a computer, my husband has said tonight he thinks I should go to a computer class because I spent out $150 today for a person to come and get rid of several viruses on my computer. I asked my husband if he were so interested in this, why didnt he go to computer class and learn himself. I said I was coming on MTstars and just see how many of us transcriptionists also do our own repairs. Ok, MTers, now is your time to speak up!
Updates keep the money rolling in for useless info that becomes obsolete.
This is the stupidest con I have ever heard of on MT world.
At TransHealth, there are backlog updates every 15 minutes for the accounts we type. sm
We're always informed of where are accounts are standing (in ChartMatrix).  It's a nice feature.
What to do if Word does not recognize your added medical terms - after updates? nm
nm
Does Stedman offer updates for Quicklook? I just bought the 2008
x
The Latest Word was a waste. Stedman's might have monthly updates on their site, not sure. nm
s
Got that right! 70s today, windows open, clean air. Great stuff in NY! nm

That is a great idea!! Thanks
nm
I think it's a great idea, but---
Since most of the ships are owned by foreign companies, that means they would have to help the US-- God forbid they should do that! They only TAKE from us, not GIVE to us. I think it would be wonderful if they would do that. They could certainly accommodate a lot of people that way.
Thats a great idea, we already though of that.
Maybe, but there is a federal law against offshoring teaching.
Thanks, great idea. nm

Thanks for the great idea!! I just sent an
email to them, also.  I don't know if it will do any good, but it sure felt great sending it!!  Thanks again!
I think that's a great idea!
Let them know what's going on at home.
I think it's a great idea!
... as an IC, then you need (a) more clients or (b) a different job. Just squeaking by as a self-employed person without being responsible for your potentially expensive health care is totally irresponsible.

MA will have to be careful about deciding who can "afford" what, though. Might get sticky. But overall, I do agree that if you can afford it you should absolutely have it, no excuses.
That's a great idea! NM

That's a great idea, as well!...nm
nm
great idea, but...

I use timestamp by syntap.com.  Free.  It's a clock that I shut off and turn off.  When, I stop typing to take a break of any kind, I shut it off, and then I turn it on when I am back to work.  This lets me see just how much time I can waste - like time I take to come to this board when I should be working.

You can set a dollar amount that you earn, too, to show how much you are making in the time you work.

No "kaching" sound, either, but I keep it running where I can see it as a reminder of my time.  It has improved my line count during the hour so I am not goofing off so much.

Great idea! sm

I transcribed an x-ray report yesterday that was 1 minute 59 seconds long. For 1 minute and 53 seconds, the radiologist was on the phone with her child trying to explain the concept of time, as in how long it would be before she got home. Then she had a conversation with one of the x-ray techs about explaining the concept of time to children. The last 6 seconds of the report, she dictated a chest x-ray. And yes, she gave it a full dictation - this lady talks fast.

Once in a while I overhear something juicy, though....when I worked in-house, I heard a conversation between two radiologists about a new doctor they were hiring, and another time I heard a discussion giving their not-so-great opinions of some of the other doctors at the hospital. After all, we were told to always listen to the very end of the dictation to make sure we didn't miss anything.

A Great Idea
Something has to be done. There are so many of us out there that get treated this way. I worked in a small hospital for 2 years and and loved it and now at home work is making me hate my profession. So many other fields are covered by unions and other agencies to protect the worker rights but there is nothing for us. Everyone is complaining but nothing is getting done. Something should be done and I know that we all have free time at our computuers!!!
Great idea!
Now THAT'S a great idea! Thank you!!
GREAT idea. Thanks!! nm

That is a great idea!
You know in the past I wondered if I had ADHD. I asked the doc, he said no, the job is probably just boring and my mind was wandering. I have to ask him about Adderall though to see if he would prescribe. A while back, I got an OTC supplement which was an alternative to Adderall called Attend. I took it and it worked (for when I worked during the day). But after the doc said that I stopped taking it. It is in my cabinet. I am going to try it again. Thanks for reminding me about this. I really appreciate it!
What a great idea!
Thoughtful and practical (for all concerned!)
Thanks for the great idea!
Thanks -that is a wonderful idea!
Great idea!
This would be very appreciated!
Great idea!
Your suggestion of sending the work to the country of origin makes perfect sense. A large number of ESLs are from India, and there are plenty of MTs there. What will we do with the American doctors who are bad dictators? I wish all of these lousy dictators had to take classes in med school and learn how to dictate!
Great idea.
