So if someone isn't rolling in money, they have made a life choice mistake
and are living in squallor?  Uh, I don't think so.  If you're not an MT, why are you even here?  You certainly aren't a very helpful or happy little elf.
It's really not a great idea to disable Windows updates. Just because updates are scheduled to be
installed, does not mean 7.0 will be automatically installed on your pc.  You will always receive a notification when installing anything other than critical updates, which 7.0 is not.
Sorry, don't belong to any useless...
MTSO organizations or any organizations for that fact. I don't have time.

My question to all the ICs out there - How many of you are willing to pay for what it costs to do direct deposit? I know I would, if my client offered direct deposit, but only if I would pay for the cost of the service. However, I am betting that not many ICs would...but then again, I might be wrong.
Tessier useless??? OMG!

I could not work without my Tessier.  It's open all day and the pages flying.  A real must for every MT who does op notes.

Pfaw!!! I quit them! They are useless. A pox on them! nm

This type of post is so useless here
Prove it to the people you work for, or quit your bellyaching, and work!!!
Sorry, but I wouldn't pay 5 cents to take that useless test.

It is useless to supply facts because they don't matter, only emotion. NM

I purchased that book and it was useless. I think half the stuff in it was old. *sm*
My son told me that he thinks every useful thing has already been invented unless it is technology related.  Sometimes I think he is right and other times I refuse to believe that every idea has already been invented.  I am envious of the women on Oprah who are making a million dollars from a brownie recipe or an umbrella company.  Sometimes I wish I could write a novel or a children's book that would be a best seller.  I know people that sell one item on ebay such as golf clubs and are making their living doing that.  I have never been able to find a popular enough item at wholesale cost to make a living at it.  I do have an idea that I think would go over well in a shopping mall (the idea has been used before but it has never been in a shopping mall) but I do not know where to go with getting it past an idea.  My biggest drawback is that I have no imagination and no real talent other than I am a hard worker and have moral values.
WILL NEVER BE OBSOLETE
OP: I am sorry your question has caused such a stir, as you can see, people are very passionate about this profession. I have been in the field for a little over 20 years and can't see doing anything else. I am NOT CMT and probably never will be. I don't think it matters as far as the pay scale. But the other post is very proud to be CMT and we should respect that. I envy the ladies who have taken the time and money to be certified, I think it is great. It is just not for me. I get good jobs without it. As far as VR putting us out of business? Not possible. There are still docs who dictate to tapes, there will always be docs who want to do it the old fashioned way. I wouldn't worry about it not being around. They said that about us 10 years ago, and we are all still here. I would say stick with it, the more you sharpen your skills and improve your creaft, you will be proud, just like our other posts. Hope this helps.

being obsolete.......
I have been told to watch out, my career is going since I started. When and if that happens, I will move on to to the next new thing, until then I work hard and I have a good life. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Don't give in to negativity or naysayers.
Are they becoming obsolete? tia (nm)

I don't think we are obsolete but (sm)
I think the major MT companies are not going to hire the real experienced folks and pay them what they are worth. I think to make the money you are going to have to get with a hospital, office or company that still does actual MT and not automated stuff. We are always going to be needed. My opinion is the money now is shifting back to the "in house" places and not the at home services. But the bottom line is the services are settling for "second rate" MTs who put out inferior work after 1 year experience and don't care.

I have been an inpatient 63 times in the last 10 years and I always get my records after a hospital stay. I can tell you the quality is horrendous. The MTSOs are treating MTs (not all of them but the majority) as robots and like the medical field itself it has all become about the "money" and not the patient.

Pharmacy technology has a lot of automated things too but the demand for pharmacy techs is high. Plus there are pharmacy techs that work in compounding pharmacies, hospital pharmacies that put together TPN and other things. That cannot be done by a robot and that is where I intend to use my skills. Also registered pharmacy techs work for the insurance companies too. I intend to find a job working for the patient not against patients. If nothing else, I have thought about putting all this together and staring my own consulting service....(just like the independent case managers that help chronically ill patients get what they need) fighting to get patient's the drugs they need and not the drugs some insurance company wants them to take because that is what cheap but not the best.

Its still possible to make a living in these fields and be satisfied with your job also but its a long road and you gotta fight!
I am becoming obsolete!

I have been a Transcriptionist for 18+ years, the last 12 for a large hospital. About a year ago, "they" changed the definition of a line so that it was much harder to make incentive. They said they had been figuring the line wrong and that they were now going with industry standards. They have never been very specific about how a line is counted, but we did go from a 70 to a 65 space line. We currently get paid hourly plus incentive. We are now waiting to hear if we are getting outsourced, with the possibility of working for that company, or if they will keep us themselves and just pay per line, and you can bet they will pay us as little as possible. I work in-house, and they no longer want to take into consideration downtime, even though we have to answer phones and troubleshoot for doctors!

I completely understand transcription is changing, largely due to voice recognition and other computer advances. If they said they were paying us less because of that, rather than trying to make us produce more for less pay, we would all appreciate the honesty rather than trying to make us look and feel bad. I am good at what I do, but I guess I am becoming obsolete!

well, if not hippa police to enforce - quite useless. huge waste.
huge farce
I don't think MT will ever be totally obsolete.

Speech recognition will get better, but it will never be perfect.  There is always going to be the need for someone to type the reports of the dictators that absolutely cannot be understood by the SR software.  But that means that the only thing left to be transcribed will be the garbage.  I can't imagine 8 hours a day of nothing but garbage dictation every single working day for the rest of my career for what they're paying us.

we are definitely obsolete, and hanging on sm
by a thread. The old timers who are only hanging on for a few years will make it, but nothing for a newcomer to think of getting into. AHDI will make will make wild claims and try to intice, but it is pure BS. No money here any more, any way.
Money, money, money, mmonnneyyy. Singing the Apprentice song.
:+
No, not rolling in it.
I've always been a fast, accurate transcriptionist. We have ESL's, it's a teaching hospital. I don't have just certain doctors that I do with templates, etc., I am in the pool with the rest of the dept. I've just always "gotten it". I researched eScription before our company went with it, got a part-time job doing it so I could hit the ground running and not lose so much cash (no more incentive pay - that was the gravy for this job, but when you're getting paid very, very well, why would I tell them that it's pretty stupid!). I rode that gravy train and I'm not complaining that they lowered our pay; I'm thankful I still have a job, insurance and seniority. I've learned to now live within my means with the evolution of eScription.
There's a shortage of US MT's because the skill is becoming obsolete

Schools don't even encourage anyone to get into this field anymore because they don't want to have someone take a course and then be out of work in a few years when this skill goes the same direction that shorthand did several decades back.

Like someone said on the Company board, education is the key.  Don't allow yourself to be a one-trick pony and learn how to do something else while you can.

rolling stones still have it
I saw them on their Steele Wheels tour. They were ossum, absolutely worth every penny. Fantastic performance!!!
Yay mon! Got any rolling papers? LOL! nm
nm
Oh man! I'm rolling on the floor here! Tooooooooo

funny!!!!  Isn't that the truth though about the name spelling?  I have one that says, "Last name is Doe.  Now let me spell that for you, D-O-E," but if the last name is Tatarczuk, you should be able to figure that one out on your own.

I have one that actually takes time out once in a while to spell a medication and he screws it up every single time.  He's very condescending and his attitude is like, "Here little uneducated typist, this is how you spell doxicyclene."

I should keep a log of is misspellings just for giggles, but who has time?

Anyone seeing the Rolling Stones on tour?
I've always wanted to see 'em in concert - can't believe they are all in their 60s....but Mick Jagger still knows how to shake it!
Trying to contact Rolling Eyes
I am trying to get an email address for someone who regularly posts at "Rolling Eyes"  e.g. Rolling Eyes on Sun, etc.   If have a question about a prior post and want to send a private email.  Thanks
I use a small rolling desk as well
At first, I didn't think it would be large enough, but with a little organization, I find it holds my cable modem, a Lanier system, my 20-inch monitor (I put the tower on the shelf underneath the desk top), and still has room to comfortably put my coffee, notebook, etc.

We're in a small 1/1 waiting for a 2/2 to open up so I can use the extra bedroom and bathroom as my office area. I'll probably upgrade to an armoire when I have the space, but I've actually enjoyed my little cubby in the living room with my rolling desk.
yes eye rolling but mostly the "shaddup" - pretty rude
response for just asking a simple question.
Well, get started. YOU can start the ball rolling.

Are you doing acute care with ESLs? You must be rolling in it.

Horse & buggy obsolete, would love to have saved them - gone and can't fight it!
...
Oh my gosh. Went to Rolling Stones about 8 years ago (I'm 55 and as straight as they come). SM
We jumped up and down and hollered and smoked pot and just went crazy. It was so much fun!
incident involved Rolling Stones concert...NM
.
I would have been a hooker at Bunny Ranch (they make $1200/hr). My equipment is obsolete now

The Rolling Stones? You mean The Strolling Bones? Mick wasn't hot b4 and still isn't! But hey,
big lips and pretzels for legs then hey, more power to ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't know I need to post EVERY reason I got into MT...Good God! **rolling eyes***
I stand by my posts as well. YES I did say my children, but pardon me for not listing EVERY SINGLE REASON I got into MT. My children are always number one at the top of my priority list as they should be and that's why I mentioned them. And no, I'm having a good day, but I am astounded with the nastiness on these boards. I've never seen such unahppy people. Is this was MT does to a person?
common sense dictates you read the writing on the wall. technology has made you obsolete.
and the government has seen to it that american workers are no longer necessary and allows business to outsource many middle income jobs.

the whole software was installed via net, and they say there has been no problem ever with that with other users, and it seems this is the latest software they are having.
They don't do yearly updates and never have. If you must
get hysterical about something at least get the real information about what you are carrying on about. Statements like this just make folks dismiss what you are saying because you don't know what you are talking about.
Anyone more updates on MQ bankruptcy?
When I read that note on this board a week or two ago, it got me really worried.  I'm working really hard right now training on a new MQ account, and the thought of losing my job in the near future makes me want to cry.  Any feedback out there?  Does anyone know what's going on?
Go to CNN.com for all of your news updates.
I also get my local newspaper online free.  Why pay and kill trees when the highlights are all on the internet?

Did security updates; seems all better now. -- nm

I have an HP and intermittently get updates for it...sm
Might try that before you uninstall and reinstall. Good luck!
Waiting for what? They don't do yearly updates.
What else is there to say? But if you want to keep on whining about something that is untrue be my guest.
Stedman's with the yearly updates. nm

MS Word has updates, just as Windows does. Have you

I was only going to get the book, but no more online updates. sm
You need to get the CD in order to get updates. Ellen Drake said on www.mtchat.com that the CD is much better than last year's.
It will still work, but will not allow you to receive updates.
