Lots of ants this year

We have a ton of ants in our potted plants on the patio.  We're moving and don't want to move all the ants with us when we go.  Any suggestions on how to kill the ants but not the plants?

Lots of inexpensive decorations at Big Lots. Had a party last year.

Ants are drawn to water and some ants sugar/grease.

We have had professional exterminators and it didn't phase them.  Get Terro.  You are more likely to find it at Home Depot/Lowes than at the grocery store.  I got traps this year, put them in the places where we had the biggest problem with ants and they are gone, gone, gone.    You can mix sugar and borax with water to dissolve it and then soak cotton balls in it and place around too.  I haven't tried this, though lots of people I know have said it works.

We had ivy growing up one side of our house and the exterminator told us to get rid of it and that would help, we did and it didn't.

Current 4th year English major. Lots of school ahead. sigh. nm

Ants
California has the most ants I have ever seen in any other part of the country, LOL.  Its amazing.  My cousin in Brooklyn told me to put Bounce sheets and bounce liquid wherever ants are and they will not cross it, they will be gone.  Well, I bought the Bounce sheets and put them under my cat and dog bowls as my cats and dogs do not eat all right away, they like to leave the bowls half full and come back later which means millions of ants in their bowls.  The Bounce works pretty good.  Has to be a fresh sheet under the bowl each day.  Also I finally bought the Bounce liquid and poured a little around the bowl and repeat it each day.  Seems to keep the ants away out here in the desert..and let me tell ya, nothing keeps these ants away.  Last year I had two lizards, they were my pets.  They were in their tank and the next day I opened the tank and ants had gotten into the tank and they were dead with hundreds of ants eating them.  My sweet lizards.  What an awful site.  I hate ants..
Ants
My best weapon so far for ants in the house is my stupid cat!  He loves to swat at them, then play with them for a bit, then dinner time.  He's always been a bit off lol.
ants
you know spring is here when the ants arrive!
Go to a catalog online for GARDENS ALIVE. They sell safe ant "killer" for less than $10.00. It's some kind of goop they eat and take back to nest to share with others. Works for me every spring!
Ants
Go to Walmart and buy Terro (sp?). You place a drop of it on a piece of the cardboard of the box it came in. We had a serious problem with ants and this is what we used. The ants would line up to eat it and take it back to the colony. After a week, they were all gone.
Ants
Try Terro Ant Baits.  It's a liquid bait that they have to crawl into and they carry it back to the rest.  You just let the ants run in and out of the bait and don't disturb them, but sometimes for a bad ant infestation it takes about 3 weeks.  They are extremely attracted to the bait and it works really well.  It will get rid of the entire bunch.  I don't know where you live but I usually find them at Walgreens, Walmart, True Value Hardware stores, etc.  Good luck!
Ant? As in ants? - try boric.....nm

ants remedy
I know this sounds ridiculous, but it works.  Used to have terrible ants, especially around by cat bowls because cat food contains protine which ants like.  Found this on line.  Simply use laundry dryer sheets - they hate the smell.  Also bay leaves from the spice department.  It works too.
ants on the table
I have heard that if you have ants and can't get rid of them you also have termites. Hate to scare you, but you might want to hve it checked out to be sure. I worked for us at one place we lived. Good luck, hope it is nothing bad.
ants on the kitchen table
Anybody else have a problem with ants on the table.  We even fogged the house, used raid and still they come back.  Any suggestions?
BBQ, slaw, cornbread, ham, casseroles, lots of veggies, chicken pastry, lots of desserts!! BIG fami

Tarro for ants (keep away for Children and Pets)
Worked great for me - like nothing else!
Trick for keeping ants off picnic tables
I know you're asking about anywhere but when we would have picnics, we would use old tuna or catfood cans and wipe them all over, inside and out, with vegetable oil or mineral oil and then set the legs of the table in them. The ants couldn't climb the slippery outsides of the cans to get onto the table. It really worked.

You might try looking up the types of birds and beatles that eat ants and keeping a few natural predators around the flowerbeds.
LOTS and LOTS of video tapes and DVDs.

Mine are in year-round thank goodness! They've started their new year 2 months ago.

Union diesil mechanic - good pay, great benefits. We swap year to year on who brings home more sm
money.....but I am an IC and he has all the benefits...health insurance/dental that the company pays for, pension plan, 401k, etc.  Factor all of that in and he makes way more than I do.
Yes, I'm sure an any problem always involves hundreds of ants, but it's still an ant problem.
How funny.
to cowgirl - Last I knew, last year the job paid $25,000/year no taxes, etc.
The hospital was bombed about a year ago, but not a lot of damage, very minimal damage.

After I went to a 1-year MT course at a vocational school, it was so bad that I did the 2-year colle
Not only did I finally receive the proper training, but the woman on the advisory board hired and mentored me. I also joined the local AAMT and networked. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be. A community college will have a good program to include medical language, MT courses taught by local MTSOs, business English, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, etc.
I think he makes $700,000.00 a year, and if they ask him to walk before his first year MQ has...sm

to pay him a cool 1 million dollars.  You can check this out at the Medquist website.   I think the CFO makes $350,000 a year, and the head of IT makes $250.000 a year.

P.S.  This does not include the perks, like expense account, car allowance, sign-on bonus, etc.

Our 16 year old son has been working for a year now to pay for his truck.
He's learning how to sand and do body work and how the engine and transmission go together. My parents didn't buy cars for my siblings and I either. I had a 20+ year old beater car until I could afford to move up to a a newer one.

I see all the nice new cars parked in the high school parking lot every day. It's nice that so many disrespectful punk kids get handed something nicer to drive than what all the teachers drive. Oh, well. Honestly, I think most of them borrow Mommy or Daddy's car or are the child of a doctor who can afford to hand them everything.

Hopefully, my kids will take better care of their cars because they bought and built them on their own. You're not going to grow up to be responsible if you don't work hard for something and expect Mommy and Daddy to bail you out all the time.

Oh, my Dad lectured us on even allowing our child to have a vehicle because Dad didn't have one until after he had worked his way through college, lettered on the football team, got straight As, lettered on the baseball team, yadda yadda. He either walked or hitched a ride. Yeah, well, times were different back then, Daddy-O. LOL At least my kid has the opportunity to work and earn his own car.
IC - 30 hours week, $98K last year. So far this year - 28K. sm
Individual IC - own account(s).
Not me, owed last year, and expect to owe this year- sm
or break even, had more expenses this year. Only owed $200 but still don't want to owe at all. Need to start doing estimated tax payments again so I don't owe! Guess I will get off my butt and do that this year.
come on.. you cannot compare a 2-year-old and a 15-year-old

Got $$$$ back last year but this year
I have to pay them, sold a property I never lived in but I had enough sense to set aside $45,000 so just waiting on them to send me my WT2s so I can get started.
Lots of us did.
Been here 8 and got $130. One lady got 2 cents and another 1 cent. It's CRAZY!
I have lots of them...

Hello!  Email me if you still need sites for OP notes - I have quite a few good ones I can send you...

LOTS
I'm on my 4th since July.

Tried Transolutions, what a joke. Told I would be on the windows system, ended up on the old DOS system with 40 pounds of manuals to look through. Had 3 accounts assigned at once and one of the team leaders was absolutely nasty.

Tried Precyse, had absolutely NO work whatsoever for 10 days and was supposed to be full time.

Tried Interpro, what a joke!!! They act like you are taking up precious time if you even ask a single question (like how to set up the stupid program they send you).

Tried a foreign company, the work I saw that they were sending to the hospitals was so bad I didn't want my name associated with any of it!

Been with eTransPlus now since August 8, so far so good. Wanted to go with Transcription Solutions but they don't do training on any shift but days and I'm a night person.

Still looking for a part-time job, but with 20+ years I'm NOT working for 6-7 cpl without spaces!

I saw in a newspaper last night that nursing assistants are making 15 an hour now and LPNs are making 25. I would make more doing something like that, but I can't. When I see phlegm, I turn a lovely green color..lol
I think there are lots of us
I don't worry about it. I'm content being mateless. Whether we realize it or not, we're probably extending our lives this way---much less stress. No relationship drama.
I just got one for $499 with XP and lots of...sm
other great things.  I was going to buy this $319 Dell one, but if you spend $499 they waive the $100 shipping and handling fees.  It's all there at their website....delldotcom.....and you customize whatever you want.  I had forgotten that I needed a floppy drive and went right back to the website when I ordered that 'puter and added it on.  I need a floppy drive to put private MDs work on diskettes so they can upload them to their systems.
Thanks--Lots to think about
I will think it over and see what I can come up with. Thanks again!
Lots and lots sm

On one of my personal computers where I had (as usual) TONS of AutoCorrects and AutoTexts stored every once in a while Word would freeze up or close down (I forget now which) and everything would be lost.  So, I made sure to back up the normal.dot and the .acl (I haven't had to do this for a few years so I'm not sure I have that 100% correct) often so I could reinstall them.   I also saved the documents I was working on every few minutes and made that easier by changing the F12 button to a "Save" button.  One day I had a brilliant idea and went in to AutoCorrect Options and unchecked everything I could that was not important to me and it stopped happening!  I only mention this in case someone else out there has this problem.

But I have TONS and TONS of entries and I have never had one just disappear without some other reason for it other than I had too many in there.

Not only that, but lots of MTs get a little
if they have too many mistakes or blanks. So the insinuation that we would be so lazy as to just send in ALL blanks is pretty silly. If our payscale is tied to our quality, the last thing we want is to leave lots of blanks.
Lots of
unhappy people here. Glad I'm not one of them. ;-)
Lots longer
I don't know - I've been an MT over 25 years, am a super fast typist, use expanders, and have a great platform and accounts, and it takes me a good 5-6 hours, with a 15 minute stretch break here and there, to make 1000 lines.  Bad dictators - a good 8 hour shift to make 1000.
THANK YOU ALL, lots of inspiration! NM

There are lots of differences

Acute care is so much broader as far as need for knowledge of terminology in many different specialities.  Clinic transcription can be of any specialty, but usually if you have a clinic account it will be limited to one or two specialties.

There are many different work types in acute care.  Clinic work consists of mostly a history, physical exam, and plan.   Acute care includes things such as operative notes, consultations, etc.  which are "a whole different ballgame" as far as terminology.

there are lots of good MTs like you.sm
but they are NOT the ones that are always applying to companies...they are not the ones that leave a client in the lurch or fit the description.

I have had a lot of really good ladies working for me for a LONG LONG time now and would do anything to keep them because a good Transcriptionist is so hard to find.

But there are those that give MTs a bad reputation just like in all professions.

Good MTs do not sit on these boards blasting people asking legit questions. Good MTs are the ones always answering the word boards, equipment boards, etc with kind and thoughtful answers. There are many of those...just wish I could find one or two more
Actually there are lots of happy MQ MT's...
but it all depends on which "office" they work for - Columbus=Happy/Amherst=Unhappy.

No consistency!

LOL! Lots of OPs? Or are you an MQer too? ;)
..."was reamed," lol.
Me too, lots of bankies.
Also hubby, dogs and cats.
i do rad work & i need lots more of it!

Yes, tea has lots of antioxidants -

But there are lots of fields where you can come right out

what you get a degree in.  Something like sociology, anthropology, etc. - no, probably not many jobs.  Psychology you really need a graduate degree.  Social work you can find jobs with a bachelor's but not that well paying, so would need a graduate degree.

But look at a lot of the medical professions - heck, nursing, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, medical technology (except they call it something else now), radiology, pharmacy, etc. etc. - all are BOOMING.  Just gotta be smart about what you get your degree in.

There are lots of options out there.
Oh, I can relate. It took me 2 years before I made any money, wanted to give it up several times but stuck it out. Now I'm glad I did because working at home is worth all you have to go through in the beginning. Keep watching the job seekers board. You will eventually find something you like. One thing I love about this industry is there is a fit for everyone, if you don't have it now, you can find it. In any case, don't give up, MTs are hard to come by (the reason so many companies offer sign on bonuses). I worked as an IC for 10 years, loved it but had to go as an employee. Anyway, where I'm at doesn't quite cut it so I'm off to a new adventure with a new company. The bottom line is, you can find your dream job, just don't get discouraged in the hunt, but keep looking.
