Macros are recordings of keystrokes and commands that are repetitive. sm

A lot of people are confused on what a macro actually is. They are used to insert templates/boiler plates into documents, but the recording of the commands in the sequence they are used is the actual "macro."

Macros are better suited to repetitive tasks like formatting.
I have a macro to create a different second page of a letter with header info., another one that will update formatting from documents created using a different Normal template so they conform with mine, another one for highlighting, etc. They really can be timesavers.
Shortcuts for commands and macros

>Anyone know if InstanText can handle "code" (like WordVBA >macros) in the Expanders like SH8 can?

Instant Text lets you add commands and macro keyboard shortcuts into a glossary entry. You can use easy-to-type short forms for these entries that execute a command or a macro.

These command and macro entries are also very much used for editing.  See post below.

You can run F keys and macros with IT. Look at Commands
in the manual or help file.
Court recordings

Well over half and probably 75% of court recordings are now on CD's as well as dispositions and are being transcribed only if necessary or requested and many times at home by some of us.

digital recordings
Not positive on this, but what about him loading them to an FTP site, then you retrieve and use Expressscribe (free download). Good luck.
Instant Text Macros vs Word Macros

Thank you for replying to my VR macro question on mtstars.  I was hoping someone like you with knowledge of Instant Text and VR work could help me out.  Could you give me an example of how you would set up a macro to change a period to a comma and uncap the next letter in Instant Text for example?  Do you think using macros and commands like this in Instant Text is more productive than creating them in Word?

by boring I mean very repetitive...
but easy to normalize.  They use these tables for different degrees of muscle movement and stuff.  Maybe you could get a sample from one of the other MT websites.
Repetitive = easy, so no, they usually don't make more.
But there are exceptions to every rule, of course. As was stated in another post on radiology, the software is usually maddeningly inefficient, so sometimes it is hard to find and retain MTs for certain facilities. But the reason the software is bad for MTs is that they usually bought it with the hope they could change over to VR, thereby putting most of the MTs out of work. Radiology can be fun if you find a place where you can work in-house, have the skills to win the respect of the radiologists and learn to be able to read their minds, which helps you a lot when they misspeak.
Repetitive Stress Injury Neck
I am in bad shape with my neck and I thought maybe I could come here for some advice before I go to my doctor. I have an injury there already, but I thought it healed.  I do 8 to 10 hours a day of typing and computer work.  I do sit in an ergonomic chair, but I have very bad neck pain still...primarily on the left and it is a sharp intermittent pain.
Last year I got repetitive stress injury..sm

have been working on and off as an MT for 20 some years. One year I worked radiology and I can remember actually putting out 200 reports one day. I never got carpal tunnel with the keyboard but could get it with the mouse. About two years ago, I had a busy stint where I was probably working 6-7 straight hours, then my fingers began to hurt. First it was the thumbs, then it was all my fingers. Just ached. Not arthritis, because joints were not red or swollen. I even bought a parafin bath, tried NSAIDs. Finally investigated on the internet to find out I had repetitive stress injury. I stopped typing (fortunately I own a small MTSO) and just let my fingers rest. To this day, two years later, of almost NO typing, all it takes is about 3 hours straight typing and it's back. I've decided I've hurt my fingers irreparably and any further damage I do now, I will just pay for later with arthritis or something. Sorry to hear about your disability.

Personally, I am more productive with OPs because much of OP notes are repetitive and it is easy
create abbreviation expanders.  I like radiology too for the same reason, but I'm not quite as productive with radiology because the reports are so short.
be careful all of you - you could be pushing yourself into repetitive use syndrome formerly carpal t
and then your ability to earn an income is jeopardized.... I know because I have walked in those shoes.
Interesting article on MSNBC regarding repetitive motion strain and malaise.

Dictaphone VR commands
HELP!  Can someone tell me how to start and stop the speech flowing for Dictaphone VR?  Any other commands would be great too!  thank you.
Your company should have given you the commands. Other
s
You need two commands for fields.
You need to add the End command after each Ctrl + F or all your text after the field will be inside the field when you expand it.
C-phone commands

I got a C-phone manual (PDF) online, but it doesn't have any info as to key pad strokes to use to call into a system. Do you have that info that you could share? I'm getting desperate!

Thanks for explaining commands
Thanks for explaining how I would put a command together.  I did purchase Cheryl and Jon's Word Command glossary by periodtocomma and commatoperiod was not in it.  So I will be creating a lot of my own commands.  If you have anymore commands that are like the one you just explained to me or know where I can from some I would really appreciate it you could tell me where to find them.  I am trying to use my keyboard more and not that MOUSE!  I need to speed up!!!  Thanks
Correcting commands in Dragon

Good Morning Ladies and Gents:

I am a reasonably expert user of Dragon, having used it for about four years. I recently bought a new computer, and put Dragon 7.30 on it. I got the new XP 64 bit. Wow, what a dream for the Dragon.

However, while I had no problem with this with my previous computer, with this one it will not follow the command "new line" when I want the cursur to drop down to the beginning of the next line.

It keeps typing the word "united." It will however follow the command "new paragraph." When I ask it to correct "united," it gives me options, none of which are the one I want.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

John

conflict of keyboard commands

Hi there, I would really appreciate some help here...I am transcribing on a word document, the sound file has been e-mailed to me, I am listening to the dictation in Windows Media Player.  I don't have my footpedal working with this---but am just trying to use keyboard commands and when I do, the keyboard commands are being utilized by the word program.  In other words, play/pause is CNTL P and when I do that, I get the print window.  Is there a way to alleviate this conflict?  They sent me a sound file player but Windows Media keeps overriding it and there is too much dumb in me tech wise to figure out how to use the other sound file player.  If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.  I just get a teeny bit of this guy's work but it's a big pain in my big behind to keep grabbing the mouse and stopping/starting etc.....thanks in advance!!!

conflict of keyboard commands
thanks, i'll check into that--my only concern is that the platform I work from for another job pulls the sound file into windows media so I'm just hoping using express scribe doesn't screw it up....I've been told of express scribe before, guess I'd better give it a look.. Thanks again~!
I've never seen any sound bar key commands beyond ...

volume down, Alt+Shift+Down Arrow  and I'd guess the up arrow to increase volume. I have a microsoft ergo keyboard with volume up and down keys ... so I usually keep my "volume" at max and just tone it down ... Personally, I'd love a key command to "jump forward" for my endlessly pausing dictators (and a  "jump back" for when I overshoot their FINALLY figuring out what they want to say .... I'm watching your post in hope that someone knows something....

Using Instant Text Commands?

Could someone explain to me how to create a command/macro in Instant Text for changing a period to a comma and uncap the next letter in a sentence?  Please do not high tech words because that just confuses me. Lol

If anyone knows of any other command/macros that can be used in Instant Text to help with improving line counts I would greatly appreciate hearing about them.

Yes, I do know about the the forum at textware and productivity talk but they are so high techy over there that I am lost.

Thanks a bunch

Instant Text commands

To take your example, you can copy the following entry into the Add window of your glossary (it is usually good to have a separate command glossary that you include wherever needed):
{command}{Shift Left}{Shift Left}{Shift Left}{Delete},{Space}{Shift Right}{Shift F3}_

The short form could be something easy to remember like periodtocomma (when you use marker keys to expand, you don't have to type the whole short form, you can type petco, percom, ...).

The commands are word-processor dependent. This should work for MSWord. To make it work your cursor needs to be right in front of the capitalized word, and with this entry I assume you have 2 spaces after the period. It is easy to adapt the entry if you only have 1 space after a period. Just delete one {Shift Left}

You can email me if you need further help.

She automated by inserting those MS Word commands
into a SH entry. Try Productivity Talk for lots of ways to do this.
Add the Ctrl + B commands at the beginning and end of entry.
You click the command button in the Add window. The manual has more instructions.
Click on the all commands option in the customize dialog box.
The rest of the options that aren't in the menus are listed there.

Keystrokes. sm
I know that they have gotten beat up on here lately and had good posts too, but I think that each company is different for each person. I have found a permament place, as long as they stay this way or improve. I am treated fairly, paid well and on time. I am left alone as long as I do what I commit to. This is a perfect situation for me, but to each his own.
Try Keystrokes
They may have radiology positions open.
Keystrokes

Viki,

I sent you some info via email.  Check your email.

keystrokes ads
anyone know why Keystrokes has ads requiring at least 3 years experience but their website says 5?  which one is it?

Keystrokes
Do you mind e-mailing me please?
KeyStrokes
Can anyone give me some info on Keystrokes? Are they a good company to work for? Competitive line rate, etc.?
Keystrokes

Does anybody know about the company called Keystrokes Transcription Service, Inc out of Illinois?  Am thinking about working for them.

Keystrokes, MDI-MD
to name a couple.
Keystrokes
This company always pays on time and in general is easy to work for.  QA and TAT are big priorities as in most every other company, but also they try to keep their employees happy.  They also do not offshore and pay is good.
Keystrokes
I have applied to Keystrokes over three weeks ago for radiology positions.  Unless they are not happy with my work, could anyone tell me why they continue to advertise for 30, 60, however many openings they have?  What gives with them?  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks.
How many keystrokes TX vs. VR
For those MTs that do VR editing, about how many Keystrokes would you say you do compared to straight typing?  10%?  20%?  I know it varies but I am just looking for a ballpark figure.  For those that had RSI symptoms, have you found relief in editing??

Thanks!
Keystrokes

Hi:

You want to know about Keystrokes.  Well I am currently on an account that requires 1200 lines/day.  It is a very difficult acount though and most cannot make this goal.  they are not at all flexible here, but there are many other accounts, so depends on where you are working.  If you would like more info, you can email me at above email address.

Hope this helps.

Does Keystrokes run this place? nm

Question about Keystrokes
I am considering applying to Keystrokes for a MT job as I see they are advertising for a variety of MTs. Has anyone here had any experience with them or know anything about this company.
I just want some feedback before I jump in. Thanks!
The latest with Keystrokes

New to this site.  Read something a while ago about Keystrokes not hiring.  Does anyone know anything about them now?  How are they to work for and how do they pay?  Thanks for any information, good, bad or ugly.

Saving Keystrokes
I did just purchase this book and think it has substantial advice/ideas and with a little reprogramming of my brain I think it will pay off greatly in the long run. I don't see how a line count can't be increased with using the short cuts shared in the book. I'm not disappointed with the book.
KEYSTROKES-YOUR OPINION

I AM INTERESTED IN APPLYING FOR A POSITION WITH KEYSTROKES.  CAN ANYONE PROVIDE ME WITH SOME INFORMATION ON KEYSTROKES?  DO THEY HAVE STEADY RADIOLOGY ACCOUNTS AND HOW IS THE STAFF?

THANKS FOR ANY INFORMATION YOU CAN PROVIDE!!!-

Keystrokes is good. nm

Keystrokes is the best out there for radiology. They may have some sm
negative posts here but I love radiology and they are the best that I have found with plenty of work.
ks is Keystrokes, an MT company.

Lots and lots of abbreviations, most if you think about it will are obvious -

nt - no text

KWIM  - know what I mean

ITA - I totally agree

HTH - hope this helps
