You can customize IT to suit your typing needs

You can customize IT to better suit your needs.

For marker selection, you can select what marker keys you would like to use from a list of options in Instant Text. Right-click on the phrases advisory and go to Options and Marker Selection. There, you can select what word marker and phrase markers you would like to use.

You can also adjust the visual feedback. If you find the advisory lines difficult, you may want to start off with using just a few advisory lines. To change the advisory lines temporarily, right-click on the words advisory and select the number of lines you wish to have. To set up the number of advisory lines to a permanent number, you can do so in the Linking Options.

You can also work with zero visual feedback if you like. Simply hit "Alt-"  (that’s ALT and the "-" hyphen key) to hide IT's visual feedback.

You may want to try to do straight typing for X amount of hours per day and just use IT for an hour or two and slowly build-up your time each day.

You can always email the Instant Text tech support if you need any help.

Word 2003 has a List Number style already formatted at the left margin that you can assign a keyboard shortcut to, then switch back to your default paragraph style after your list with Ctrl + Q.

Or you can turn on automatic numbering in the AutoCorrect/AutoFormat as You Type tab. Type your 1 and period and auto numbering starts. You'll get the auto indent, but you can hit Alt + Shift + left arrow to move the list to the left margin. You can shorten that shortcut by assigning something like Alt+L to the OutlinePromote command in the customize keyboard dialog box under all commands.

Change the alignment to Right in the Bullets & Numbering dialog box.

the little white piece of paper icon to bring up the window where you ADD your new entries to, type your abbreviation in the Keyword box, then drop down to the Text to Type box and put in what you need it to say, then click Okay. You're done! If you want to delete your entry, arrow down to it, then click on the Trash Can icon. It'll ask if you want to put it on the clipboard, say yes and hit okay. If you want to modify it, use the little hand on the piece of paper icon. I like to click on the Disk icon to save stuff once I enter it, too, as a backup. If you're working and want to enter a paragraph or a page, you'll hightlight your stuff, bring up the ADD window, copy and paste it into the Text to Type area using the commands on the bottom of that box, name it, and hit okay. To use hot keys and stuff, you'll have to read the instructions in the help file. Good luck! ..nm

Dictaphone VR commands
HELP!  Can someone tell me how to start and stop the speech flowing for Dictaphone VR?  Any other commands would be great too!  thank you.
Your company should have given you the commands. Other
s
You need two commands for fields.
You need to add the End command after each Ctrl + F or all your text after the field will be inside the field when you expand it.
C-phone commands

I got a C-phone manual (PDF) online, but it doesn't have any info as to key pad strokes to use to call into a system. Do you have that info that you could share? I'm getting desperate!

Thanks for explaining commands
Thanks for explaining how I would put a command together.  I did purchase Cheryl and Jon's Word Command glossary by periodtocomma and commatoperiod was not in it.  So I will be creating a lot of my own commands.  If you have anymore commands that are like the one you just explained to me or know where I can from some I would really appreciate it you could tell me where to find them.  I am trying to use my keyboard more and not that MOUSE!  I need to speed up!!!  Thanks
Correcting commands in Dragon

Good Morning Ladies and Gents:

I am a reasonably expert user of Dragon, having used it for about four years. I recently bought a new computer, and put Dragon 7.30 on it. I got the new XP 64 bit. Wow, what a dream for the Dragon.

However, while I had no problem with this with my previous computer, with this one it will not follow the command "new line" when I want the cursur to drop down to the beginning of the next line.

It keeps typing the word "united." It will however follow the command "new paragraph." When I ask it to correct "united," it gives me options, none of which are the one I want.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

John

Shortcuts for commands and macros

>Anyone know if InstanText can handle "code" (like WordVBA >macros) in the Expanders like SH8 can?

Instant Text lets you add commands and macro keyboard shortcuts into a glossary entry. You can use easy-to-type short forms for these entries that execute a command or a macro.

These command and macro entries are also very much used for editing.  See post below.

conflict of keyboard commands

Hi there, I would really appreciate some help here...I am transcribing on a word document, the sound file has been e-mailed to me, I am listening to the dictation in Windows Media Player.  I don't have my footpedal working with this---but am just trying to use keyboard commands and when I do, the keyboard commands are being utilized by the word program.  In other words, play/pause is CNTL P and when I do that, I get the print window.  Is there a way to alleviate this conflict?  They sent me a sound file player but Windows Media keeps overriding it and there is too much dumb in me tech wise to figure out how to use the other sound file player.  If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.  I just get a teeny bit of this guy's work but it's a big pain in my big behind to keep grabbing the mouse and stopping/starting etc.....thanks in advance!!!

conflict of keyboard commands
thanks, i'll check into that--my only concern is that the platform I work from for another job pulls the sound file into windows media so I'm just hoping using express scribe doesn't screw it up....I've been told of express scribe before, guess I'd better give it a look.. Thanks again~!
I've never seen any sound bar key commands beyond ...

volume down, Alt+Shift+Down Arrow  and I'd guess the up arrow to increase volume. I have a microsoft ergo keyboard with volume up and down keys ... so I usually keep my "volume" at max and just tone it down ... Personally, I'd love a key command to "jump forward" for my endlessly pausing dictators (and a  "jump back" for when I overshoot their FINALLY figuring out what they want to say .... I'm watching your post in hope that someone knows something....

Using Instant Text Commands?

Could someone explain to me how to create a command/macro in Instant Text for changing a period to a comma and uncap the next letter in a sentence?  Please do not high tech words because that just confuses me. Lol

If anyone knows of any other command/macros that can be used in Instant Text to help with improving line counts I would greatly appreciate hearing about them.

Yes, I do know about the the forum at textware and productivity talk but they are so high techy over there that I am lost.

Thanks a bunch

Instant Text commands

To take your example, you can copy the following entry into the Add window of your glossary (it is usually good to have a separate command glossary that you include wherever needed):
{command}{Shift Left}{Shift Left}{Shift Left}{Delete},{Space}{Shift Right}{Shift F3}_

The short form could be something easy to remember like periodtocomma (when you use marker keys to expand, you don't have to type the whole short form, you can type petco, percom, ...).

The commands are word-processor dependent. This should work for MSWord. To make it work your cursor needs to be right in front of the capitalized word, and with this entry I assume you have 2 spaces after the period. It is easy to adapt the entry if you only have 1 space after a period. Just delete one {Shift Left}

You can email me if you need further help.

PS Below is a link to Cheryl's site. She has created and sells an extensive command glossary for MSWord.

Do you have a newer keyboard with commands embedded in certain ones? Don't think 5.1 had anything
s
She automated by inserting those MS Word commands
into a SH entry. Try Productivity Talk for lots of ways to do this.
Add the Ctrl + B commands at the beginning and end of entry.
You click the command button in the Add window. The manual has more instructions.
Macros are recordings of keystrokes and commands that are repetitive. sm
A lot of people are confused on what a macro actually is. They are used to insert templates/boiler plates into documents, but the recording of the commands in the sequence they are used is the actual "macro."
Contact your tech support. The ExText functions are different than MS or Word commands. Are you usin
s
You can print a list in the print dialog box. sm
You'll find the option in the print what section. You can probably find a macro that lists them all in a document with a web search. Otherwise, you can only print them.
SBC has an option ...
called Call Trace. You pay for it only when you activate it. When an offending call comes in, you hang up and then dial a keycode. That runs a trace. It is a legal trace and you can obtain the information from SBC who will send it to the authorities. You have to acknowledge that you will press charges if there is enough evidence.

At the least, I would drop that cell phone number immediately and notify your carrier of the harassment.
P.S. We all would probably say neither, but it isn't an option. ;-)

possible other option
I live in Michigan and also live in the sticks.  I thought I had exhausted all possibilities until someone told me you can get a (sorry I do not know the technical name) card for your lap top that has an internal antena.  You get them through Sprint, Cigular, and I think a couple of others have it.  I have Nextel cell phone but cannot get good service unless I go down my driveway to the road (then it is not that great either).  Sprint (nextel and sprint are not merged completely yet) is running a deal where you can get this card for free for 14 days to see if it works.  The sales person told me you would still have high speed internet even if you could not get good phone service.  You then would pay a monthly fee for unlimited access no matter where you go with your lap top.  I am ordering today, and if it works, I will try a home net work to get my other PC on board (which I am also told you can get an external card like above for a PC also).  If anyone out there already has this or knows more about it-PLEASE tell me.  Dial-up jobs are getting fewer and farther between.
first option b, then if still not
happy go higher up than manager, if that's an option, and if it's not, go the the bbb
There may be another option

All I have ever had available to me is dial-up where I have lived over the years. However, I personally have no problem working on Emdat's InScribe platform. It may take a minute or two for the first job to download but then I always have two waiting and when I upload one job another one downloads, so there is always dictation waiting for me.  However, I have a laptop now and I have noted with having more RAM (double what my PC has), everything works faster!

Also, my laptop came with the new ExpressCard slot and I plan to get that. It works basically like a cell phone and in my area unlimited Internet for it will be $79.99/month but well worth it to me if things are a little faster AND I can use my laptop in a lot of places that I travel (particularly in the summer camping), IF a signal/connection is available to me. I hope to be trying this out within the next month or so, as soon as the ExpressCards arrive at Verizon or Sprint.

If a laptop is a possibility for you, then that may be your way around dial-up. My satellite is not reliable enough and plus too costly I feel for Internet. Of course, you have to make sure that the laptop card will work with the platform the company uses that you work for/plan to work for. Emdat told me it would with their platform.

Of course, I first have to see what type of signal I get at home with the ExpressCard! :) We get "all the bars" on our personal cell phones (and actually have a tower within walking distance of our house out in the boonies-lol) so I don't think it should be a problem.

HTH some. :)

No that is not an option...sm
They told us if we fixed it up just to sell it then we would have to split it 50/50 with my husband's sister - even though she would not be putting any money or any effort into it anyhow. A few people have looked at this house when they were trying to sell it for $5k - yes just $5k - but noone would buy it. It is horrible shape. When we told his dad yesterday, before the fight between ourselves, that we were not taking it - his snide remark was "That's just more money in my pocket." You cannot win with his parents involved. I know they are his parents and I respect that and try to hold my tongue. Eventually his parents will lead to our divorce and that is what saddens me the most.
Another option...

Wristies work well, too.  They're just fleece gloves with the fingers cut out, so they don't offer a lot of support, but they sure keep your hands/wrists warm.  I got mine from plowandhearth.com.

there is another option

When I sold my house...I went with a flat fee company.  I paid a flat fee for them to list my house on the MLS, put up a sign and give me a lock box, help me price the house right, and go over any offers.......

The flat fee was considerably less then what a commission would have been.  She was a licensed agent with a lot of knowledge.

I was responsible for showing the house.  Getting the inspection and some other miscellaneous paperwork and an agent usually does.

I think there is a national chain called Help-U-Sell (too expensive for me), but there are sometimes local small companies that do this as well.

Option 2
I don't want to go back to hourly.
Another option would be to

receipt to the practice getting your money back faster than writing it off at the end of the year, but I just figure that ink and paper are part of my expenses.  That is a small price to pay as opposed to what you'd spend to look for a new account.

Furthermore, if this office is looking to slash, it may get worse for this IC in that she may lose the account regardless as the practice could go paperless with an online company for probably half of the cost they pay her.

Another option
You could look into Ameriplan's discount health and/or dental plans.

I'm an IC with no insurance and use the dental plus plan (which includes vision, Rx and chiropractic). I pay $14.95 a month for the plan and save $84 a month on my two monthly prescriptions.

Some people prefer insurance to discount plans, and it's up to the individual and their preferences on whether or not a discount health plan would work for them.

Depending on the plan, the monthly cost ranges from $14.95 a month to $59.95 a month. With these plans, you save up to 80% on all dental and medical fees.

You can get an idea of what providers are in your area and their fees by going to:
http://providersearch.ameriplanusa.com/

If you want more info, here's a website:
http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/mkj

Again, it's a discount plan and not insurance, and some people would prefer actual insurance, but I'm personally happy with them because the monthly cost is cheap and I get what I need. You can email me if you want more info (I'm an MT but also a rep for Ameriplan on the side) :)

Well she has been given that option...sm
but has heard that they run out of work a lot at Spheris and offshore most of the good work. Someone she knows works there and is going broke. This person who works at Spheris said one day she only got to work 2 hours and she is supposed to be full time. My friend has the problem that she makes $46,000 a year, and her budget is set to that amount. If she doesn't make that she said she can't pay her bills. She doesn't think she can make close to $50,000 at Spheris. There aren't many places you can make that kind of money.
Thanks. Vonage may be my only option around
