Maybe that's a good thing - it's a reason for the Indian docs to GO HOME

Teenagers good to be home with - I did the same thing
Once had an argument with my boss working in the office, because my hours were supposed to be 7-3, or 3:30.  I was on salary (can you believe that) at the time, and she expected me to stay till 5 or 6.  She herself used to practically live there.  I told her no, I wanted to be home with my kids, and she said they weren't babies anymore and didn't need me.  Well, I left everyday after that by 3:30, and believe U me, it is a very good idea to be able to monitor your teenagers, and I would do it again (God forbid I ever  had teenagers again)  They are all grown now.
Good thing you work at home
Hopefully one day when you need to vent, you at not treated the way you treat others but what goes around does come around.
It's a reason most of us are working at home...
I chose to work at home 11 years ago due to office politics and nastiness in the doc's offices.  As a result, I never have to *get into it* with any of the offices.  EVER!
Have DH home on his days off ! For some reason, sm
I get double the production on days he is home. Of course, I always hear "if you have time for mtstars, you have time for me". So I don't surf the net as much when he is around, LOL!
Most of these docs realize it and the sad thing is that most do not care --
nm
JUST to stay HOME with your kids is NO reason to

get into this profession.  You sound like one of those many women who think just because they have a computer, can type and put two words together they can be an MT.  As I am sure you have discovered, there is so much more to this career than that. I agree the benefits of being available for our children is truly a blessing and when mine were young I was SO thankful to have that flexibility, but to all the newbies out there:  Do the research before you delve into this.  It is not as easy as some make it out to be.  Perhaps you should try running a daycare instead. Or put your children in one part-time until you get comfortable with MTing.

That's a big part of the reason I work from home.
I can't deal with traffic any more.  People are just horrible, rude, dangerous drivers these days.  It's not just older people or teenagers, it's EVERYONE!!!  Like George Carlin always said, they're all jerks and *&$*%^* out there.  I get absolutely tense and exhausted when I have to drive a lot.  I don't even live in a big city.  That really scares me, like when I drove around Las Vegas on vacation.  I used to race (amateur) stock and muscle cars, and it's safer on the track than on the street.  As it is, some stupid guy rear-ended my husband in my car, so I have to get it fixed now anyways.
That's exactly the reason I worked at home for 15 years.
Very annoying and petty.
Who said it could? That IS the point and the reason a lot of moms do this from home!
We are happy doing it all from home! Why do YOU have a problem when our families and employers do not? Move on and attack your next post, please!
Remember, there's a reason lots of these folks are working at home. nm
it's not because their interpersonal skills were just too good for the traditional office.
It could be any reason. You could be really good
in which case they're dumping all the garbage on you that nobody else can do.  Or as some people on this board say, maybe they're trying to force you out.  (I highly doubt that!)  It's been my experience that if you show that you're eager to work and skilled, you'll get the stuff nobody else wants to do.
I say she was screaming with good reason
If you don't want to work for her, then don't apply. It's a free country.
I can think of a good reason why...CYA and audit!!!!!!!!!! nm
/
Good reason to smack this doc...
She dictates diagnoses, giving three or four detailed diagnoses and then says, "etcetera, etcetera, etcetera"

OK, do I get to make up additional diagnoses for her? This is at the top of the report, so it's not like she's saying go back and copy admission diagnoses for discharge ones. (Not that THAT would be ok, either!) Am I supposed to read her mind? Or is this just a verbal tick that pops up whenever she's done dictating a list of diagnoses?

Garrrragh!
Of course it was - too many people still believe we went there for a good reason. nm
x
If you were that good, you would have no reason to complain about it. Maybe you should just ignore
it, but apparently YOU DO have a problem with editors. If you are that good, maybe you will become an editor and SEE exactly what we are talking about!!
I do the same thing except they are home
with me all day. I have the skills to do my job and take care of my children w/o shoving them in daycare. Social graces? From daycare? Okay! The point we are trying to make is that some of us have the ability and patience to raise our children at home and maintain a career at home. If you can't that is fine, but no reason to be negative towards us who can and try to discourage someone else from doing it.
Some bluster- of course docs aren't training to be MTs, mostly Spheris trying to look good BUT
they are definitely trying to grow the business and knock out more of the American share of the market.
Good for you. There is no reason any hard working MT should put up with that crap. nm
:)
Some prn at home with own equipment, is there such a thing?
Don't know which board this should go on, as I am looking for some company or practice who will allow me to use my updated equipment, ref. materials, etc., but allow me to "plug into" their system when I have the time as long as I put in a certain amt. of hours per week. I have the experience and the necessary equipment but my circumstances do not allow me to commit to certain hours or days of the week, would just have to play it by ear and be glad to have the chance to work. At one time there was a local company (in NE) which allowed a friend of mine to just "plug in" when she could to relieve them of some of the backed up dictation. She was retired and could only give the a few hours here and there but they were glad to have the help. Is there such a thing anywhere today? Some of the things I read on here make it sound like there's a pretty rigid commitment and you almost have to be "chained" to your chair. Anyone out there allowed to work ad lib to help out a good company in exchange for a good worker? Don't laugh now, it doesn't hurt to ask. There are days when I could give them 4 or more hours and days when I can't type at all. You never know. No nasty posters, please. If you hear of any such setup, let me know, be it medical or otherwise.
This is becoming the normal, unfortunately. To get assigned docs & accts. makes for good line
s
I do not get when "in a rush" became a good reason to not find your own answers..
better up my meds I guess.
No reason to feel good about it. Just showing that kids are going to get into trouble
So let them learn how to function in society rather than hide them from it.
A good neighbor is worth a million bucks, they say this for a reason
I purchased a house at a remarkably reduced price because of a neighbor who was a lunatic. First thing I will do the next time I buy is try to get familiar with the neighbors bordering my home. Thank GOD, he moved but for several years, I had to get a restraining order and even with that, he used foul language, sometimes directed at me, tapped into my utilities, had loud fights with four letter words. I could even hear them in the bedroom going at it (yes, i know)... What I say is don't make her angry or she could make your life REALLY miserable. There will be times when you will not be home...people like her resort to all sorts of behavior, I have a feeling.
I didn't know I need to post EVERY reason I got into MT...Good God! **rolling eyes***
I stand by my posts as well. YES I did say my children, but pardon me for not listing EVERY SINGLE REASON I got into MT. My children are always number one at the top of my priority list as they should be and that's why I mentioned them. And no, I'm having a good day, but I am astounded with the nastiness on these boards. I've never seen such unahppy people. Is this was MT does to a person?
tell her if she really does have PP depression, coming home won't fix a thing.

The first thing you learn about at home jobs is

It is only easy if everything falls into place, i.e. good docs, repetition, macros/expander -sm
This is not the norm. I average 130-175 lph, so it would take me a bit longer than 3 hours to make $100 (I am only PT now so I don't make much more than $50 a day) , and as she would be starting out fresh at a new job, probably with a national doing nothing but ESL the odds are she won't be making $100 in 3 hours.
At this for 30+ years. I think the thing to remember is yes, it is a business, when I am home to w
working. One thing I do to start off is treadmill every morning 30 minutes, just walk, no vigorous jogging too old, just enough to get those endorphins working and then start with my cup of coffee. I don't answer the phone for anyone unless its my mom. She only call is if something is wrong, otherwise I let the machine pick it up. I will if I have personal calls for myself take time when no work or do that rather than lunch for 40 minutes or so. I do the hour stretch. I also use weights, free weights by my desk I use to lift and stretch out my neck and arm muscles. I also use a ball twice a day to lie on and roll out the shoulders. This enables me to keep at it. No house chores. After I am done I do those. My kids are raised, but this job always enabled me to be here at home for them. I worked nights for a long time too broke up my work time when they were younger. So everything at home is workable with the right approach. Just remember, you are working, just because your home don't take personal calls. I don't think I would have done this for this many years if it was not work the $$. Be creative in your own routine have fun with it and make it work enjoyable. We can go out and have coffee in the sun on the deck in our PJs for our breaks, so remember the flexibility factor there.
LOL! Well, good! I've done ONE good thing today, then. NM

Thank you too! A good laugh is a good thing.

Good one, Home MT....

I had been using www.healthgrades.com but you have to go through a long convoluted trail of clicking through specialties and cities and agreeing to disclaimers.

I like your site.  It is straight forward and takes partial names.

Thank You!!!

Good idea, esp. if in your home...nm
.
Good ideas - but most want to be at home! sm
I work more being at home, albeit not in 8 straight hours, but I get more work done at home with more lph working in 2-hour shifts throughout the day. Working in the office would not cut it for me. I have been working at home for 16 years now, no way will I go back to an office. So, if you are looking for the seasoned MTs to work in the office with the newbies - good luck with that!

I think you have great ideas and it will work, you just might have to modify a few things along the way.

Best of luck to you!
Good to know. Thanks. I hope he has someone at home sm
who can do that for him. He'll just have to keep growing! Thank goodness no one has thought 20" is too small!
It's a good thing

Finally, the animals win one.  Every time some "little darling" mangles a dog or a cat and they get bitten, scratched, it is always the "mean dog's fault".  I'm glad you had your camera on for proof.  I had two collies that were behind TWO locked fences and one of my neighbors called me up, screaming that my female had bitten her 2 yo toddler.  I asked what her 2 yo toddler was doing running around loose outside without supervision and what he was doing on my property in the first place.  I told her about the two locked gates and chain link fences, and she said he managed to stick his hand between the posts and the gates and was bitten.  She thought I was going to "come apart", but instead I went on the attack.  I told her she needed to watch her kids and keep them out of my property and she wouldn't have a problem.  Her 2 yo was trespassing on my property and I wanted him kept off of it from now on!  She backed down in a big hurry.  People make me crazy!

Good thing this is my day off
I meant "way less errors," not "way more errors."  LOL
no, would not be a good thing....sm

would end up making you look bad......

move forward - for every door that shuts, another one opens, I promise....*S*

Yes, it is a good thing.
My parent's church helps with it and my parents and other people in the church have brought from them. It is not a scam. It just helps with fod. There is no way you can buy that much food at the store for what Angel Food gives you for $25.00. Are you thinking of signing up?
Good for you! I think this is the right thing to do.
You've got to take care of yourself to keep making your money. If he has a problem with that, he'd be in for a rude awakening if you woke up and decided my hand hurts and I CAN'T work. I'm glad you're doing what you need to for your own pain's sake. My best to you!
Is this a good thing?
QA that is 'easy on you'?
It can be a good thing if.....

you treat it like a business - learn the law, get everything in writing, charge enough rent to cover the hidden costs.  I've been landlording for several years now and I highly recommend nolo.com a site with good legal information for non-lawyers, especially a book that outlines the landlord-tenant laws in each state in layperson language - It's been very useful to me, kept me out of trouble at least once.

Or just call a realtor and let them handle it and add their fee to the rental as mentioned above.

Which is why MT can be a good thing for ADD sm
Days when it is hard to focus will take longer to reach quota. Personally, hormonal fluctuations tend to drag me down and make my day go on forever. Being able to stretch my day out longer as long as I get the work done has probably saved me from losing my job at times. Working all day long is not the ideal, but the perseverance is there to get it done anyway and keep my job. When I worked in-house, I was constantly late and had so many warnings because it was hard to stay on task, couldn't work extra hours, etc. So for me, working MT at home, while not a breeze, is the best fit for me and probably many other MTs with ADD.
God gave us the ability to judge for good reason. Then told us judge not, lest thou be judged. NM

Does anybody have a GOOD home remedy for fleas...
I have two "sons" (shih tzus), one has long hair and the other has short hair.  My short haired baby has fleas that I cannot get rid of.  I have tried all kinds of over the counter medicine and I have done everything including cleaning this house top to bottom and bathing him 3 times a week.  One would think the long haired one would have them worse, but he doesn't.  He enjoys being groomed though and brushed daily whereas my short haired guy thinks the brush is a toy.  I used the Zodiac line last year and had absolutely no problems at all but it is just not working this year.  Any good ideas would be appreciated!!!!
Another good idea is Home Depot
My friend used to work in the travel industry, which has also gone down the tubes pretty much as a result of technology.

She's a very talented Martha Stewart type of person and always has a yard that's the envy of the neighborhood. She's seriously thinking of applying at Home Depot's home and garden department to give people advice about their yards. She said it pays well and the same with the benefits.

If you're talented in any type of home decorating, home repair, or horticulture I'd say apply at the Home Depot or maybe Lowe's!
Good for you. I love my local at home job.

can't imagine doing good work at home
(no buddy-help) without MT training, and getting good QA scores. There's too bloody-much detail anymore, ie, all the BOS rules, on top of account specifics, terminology, accents, etc... I have seen a couple people pick up the terminology and do well with only on-the-job training in the hospital setting, but that seems rather rare.
The only thing good is Shorthand and you can get
x
I can't believe you thing those are good reasons.
I cannot believe you think these are valid reasons to do your dog a dis-service like that.  Yes, it is your laziness that doesn't want to go have to get up and let him outside.  As far as fleas, if you cannot afford to care for a dog properly, you shouldn't have one.  The cheapest part about owning a pet, is the initial cost. Your expensive flea med excuse is like saying, "Gee, I am short on cash. Get the dog doesn't get to eat this week."  There are expenses that go with owning a pet and that should be considered before you bring one into your home.  And the digging,,, just don't leave him out for hours at a time and the digging won't be an issue.  THis poor dog.  I unfortuneatly can see this dog's future.  Either he will end up put down like the other poster's dog or he will be placed with strangers.  If he is lucky, it will be with a responsible dog ower.  If he is unlucky, it will be with some one who won't take the time and he will either end up outside all the time or be passed to yet another stranger.  Poor pooch.
Good post but one thing.....sm

you said you'd wait until you become financially secure before getting married so you could then could leave him and be okay $$-wise.

I left after 13 years of marriage and we pretty much had nothing....my sanity being numero uno.  The stats are this....that after 5 years of divorce, women are in better shape than men financially and emotionally.  That's what I've read and that's how it also happened for me.  I was in better shape than him 5 years later.  So, don't undercut yourself.  We can make it on our own whether we have a man in our life or not!!!!  It's an old wives tale from post WWII I do believe that women are not *complete* without a man and that is a total crock of s**t.....in my mind/heart/soul.
