I live in Houston on Lake Houston - (sm)
Kingwood and Humble school districts.  We are pretty much in the country where we are, but only about 15 minutes but shopping, 30 minutes to downtown, so you can have both good schools AND country living, or closer in, more like city.  In regard to the other poster, I have heard that Cy-Fair is a good school district, one of the best, so I hear - the only problem with living out there is that it is on the west side of Houston and is highly populated, and traffic is horrendous.  Even on a Saturday morning, it can take you 15 minutes to go 2 miles.
Houston
I currently get 8.5 cents per line as an IC. I can't tell you what the service charges the doctors, though. Most big hospitals/institutions in the Medical Center are outsourcing transcription to companies who can interface with their EMR systems. It goes without saying that most of these companies use overseas transcriptionists.
Same thing in Houston!

The same thing happened here in Houston.  They found an elderly lady dead and her car stolen.  She had opened up her home to the New Orleans evacuees and after living with her for several months, they strangled her and stole her car.

How do you explain this to children?  My children were so disappointed that we did not open our home up to the Katrina evacuees, but this was exactly the type of thing I was afraid of.  So we did other things to help out, but open my home?  No way!

I feel sorry for the old guy in your town and hope that he has a full recovery.  He is the one who deserves our prayers and good wishes.

Guardian Angels for Houston
Houston wants to get some of the NY Guardian Angels because of the increased crime in the city with all the Katrina evacuees.  Schools are having increased violence also because the N.O. kids want to take over the school with the attitude, "You made us come here, so now it's our school."  Letting them into my home.  I think not.  Wonder how many Oprah took in to her homes with all her preaching about us helping them.  Right.

What is the going line rate in Houston, TX?

I have provided transcription services in Colorado for an internal medicine/nephrologist physician for the past five years.  He recently moved to Houston and started a new practice there and has asked me to provide him a proposal for doing his transcription there.  I was just curious if anyone could give me an idea what the going rate per line is in Houston.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Wonderful people in Houston, yourself included!
Wonderful to know there are such caring folks out there.
I live in Houston and am debating whether to leave or not. Even being a
little ways from the coast, we could still see some bad damage. We do not have flood insurance, but we survived Allison during the floods, but we have 5 animals, 2 kids and a mother-in-law we would have to take with us.  That means 2 cars. We are going to wait a while and see what happens.
I live 3 hours from Houston and our weathermen are
telling us to prepare for 60-80 mph winds on Sunday. It's a hassle to leave, but I wouldn't chance it, not with kids.
Any For Real Good MT Schools in Houston?

I'm looking for a real good MT school or some sort of MT on the job training or willing to train a person to work out of home. Have been LVN since 1984 but now disable, need something to do out of home. Please reply, disability not enough income. Thanks!

I love Whitney Houston's ballads, but

I know how high she can go and often times, the Idol judges don't like when the contestants sing her stuff, because they just aren't her.

Best of luck to your daughter!

Yes, bought my SUV from Ebay from a reputable Infiniti Dealer in Houston and I live outside of Atlan
Best car I've ever, ever had. They specialize in luxury cars and large SUVs. Had hundreds of positive feedback from other buyers, very reputable seller. Got my Yukon for 8,000 under blue book. It was an awesome experience and we'd do it again in a heart beat. I had to drive out there to get it and it has everything in it - OnStar, media package, leather.

The only problem with that is you have to get your own financing and have the money in hand when picking up your vehicle.

Don't knock buying on ebay unless you've had a bad experience buying a vehicle. I've had my SUV for over a year. NO problems and if I sold it today I would make money on it.
I think you're a little off center

Attitude has nothing whatsoever to do with "success" these days.  I personally know too many MTs,  working for different companies, with very legitimate complaints and they aren't the cry baby types.  I am a good MT also but what difference does that make if there's no work? I always asked the same question, "Do your MTs run out of work?"   I do not have time to sit around all day waiting to see if there might be some work to do...either I work or I don't.  Every recruiter assured me that there was plenty of work.  They lied.  I have worked now for 2 years for the same company and this time the recruiter told me there was plenty of work and obviously there is or I wouldn't still be there.  If and when I start running out of work with them, I am out of MT period.  So, I guess, I have to revise my first statement a little.  If anyone finds the right company for them, then attitude probably does have everything to do with success.  As for myself, I rarely hear anything from the company I work for other than regularly getting my pay stub that my pay has been direct deposited on time and for the correct amount.  I think some MTs put too much emphasis on line rates.  1500 lines per day at 8.5 cpl comes out to a whole lot more than  200 lines at 15 cpl.  As for my line rate, it isn't terribly impressive but I make as much as I want to make and don't have to kill myself doing it so these days that's about all one can expect IMO.

We have a bowling center
And our employees get free bowling, lol!!

How do I center something in Word?

Jen: Is that the one in Gadsden? with Tina Parker as president? You can email me for more info, but I worked for them for 2 1/2 years and I would not recommend it to anyone.  Thanks, Beth
Dell's support center
Dell provides technical support from their American staff only to CORPORATE clients, all others, like you and me, we get INDIA.
The medical center by my home is the same (sm)
The last time I was in there the receptionist said that all their dictation is done by EMR.  The doctor pulls up the patient file, dictates into a little black machine, and it is automatically put into the record.  The receptionist said this is done at THEIR medical center and ALL THEIR SATELLITES.  I was not at all happy to hear this.  They used to have transcriptionists.
It's probably a telemarketing call center
using a computerized sequential dialer program - I think they've been outlawed in most of the US states.  If you have caller ID, just don't answer unless you know who's calling.
Here are some more - Maine Medical Center, sm
Fairview Health System, Gwinnett Medical Center, Atlanta, Piedmont Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess, Charlston Medical Center, West Virginia, Pacific California Hospital, UMass hospital, Marin General Hospital, California, New England Baptist, and the list goes on and on and on.
No, it does not. The call center is probably overseas

I miss working with other people. I miss having a QA person or a supervisor I know and can go talk to. I miss the hospital gossip and hearing about people's grandkids. Sigh. I left them to work at home figuring it would be all that. But it's not. Sigh....

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had any good/bad info on this company. I can't seem to find much information on them. Thanks.

It depends on what department you are going into. Are you Medical Records MT? or Radiolgy MT?
The surgery center personnel are just as guilty, IMO. sm
Doctors are not untouchable. Any nurse or tech or secretary who has direct knowledge of a doctor using illegal substances and going into surgery is contributing to the problem.
I do virtual call center work and was having sm
trouble with people knocking and calling me interrupting my work. They were always asking for dumb things! (I'm single and this is our only income.)
The more time for homeschooling was a surprise!
We have been to the park more too. He is getting to bed by 8:30 (before it was Always after 10 no matter what I did) and I'm getting more sleep too.

Thank you for the help and advice. :)
SIL says she went through Wellspan Community Health Center. sm
any idea how to call them? i am not finding that exact name info. i did find roseann freundel as a DO student in WV but just pictured and an article. no contact info.
Actually a surgery center is acute care.
But surgery is surgery.  Clinic work is not transcribing anything too invasive other than a Botox injection if you're lucky.  I would think about that rate for transcribing surgeries.  8.5 is low.
Insect bites, center water blister.

For an entire month maybe once or twice a week, I have been bitten by some unknown sneaky bug that leaves a center water blister and a huge red swollen area around the blister, maybe  the size of a half dollar coin.  I have been putting neosporin on it but would love to know what is biting me.  I woke up this morning with 3 extra bites.  I knew about the one on my wrist which has already started to blister.  I am thinking of going to the doctor but don't want to look like a wacko going in for nothing.  However, I absolutely hate insects and they seem to love me with the bites.

The itching  seems to happen when I am in the backyard (lots of trees and bushes).  So, might be getting bit there first then the bites get worse as time goes by.  They leave scabby cicular scars.  The skin looks healed but very dark.

Anyone else with this experience or should I just head to the doctor.  Can't really afford it but tired of the bites and the scars they are leaving.  Thanks.

Question inside about Renting from Rent-A Center. sm

What was your expeience?  Is it very expensive?  I was thinking about renting a laptop computer to use for work on vacation for a couple of weeks and not ready to invest in purchasing a new laptop yet.  Can you rent things for about a month or do they require longer?

Thanks for any help you guys might give.');>

Does anyone know where to find a listing of the V.A. Medical Center physicians?
Thanks for the help.
America Online has a huge call center in India too.

No, not at all. Brand new Super Center, nice area. But have never seen the stickers.

cancer

My husband might be diagnosed with oral cancer.   He has had a lump in his cheek for awhile and wasn't really concerned about it until he went to the doctor for a check-up.  The doc is sending him to have it looked at more thoroughly.  Any words of encouragement or anyone that has gone through this.  Thanks

They have a great cancer drug list. I really like oncology except when my doc does a weeks worth of dictations all in one day.
why so much cancer?
Did you know about the atomic bomb testing/nuclear bomb testing done around the world?  Well worth researching.  I was shocked to find out that it was more than originally led on, well over 700 bombs and I cann't remember if it is just our country or if the numbers were world wide.  Then we have companies that polute our water, our land fills, our air... We have paved roads that are giving off gases constantly into the air, not including the vehicles that give off gases continuously, encircling the earth.  Do you know about the carcinogens in the plastics that hold bottled water?  Chemicals added to food is going to build up in the tissues...  Deodorant is not safe, either, and we don't stop there with hygiene chemicals...
Search The Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Mayo Clinic or other big institutions for research. nm

cancer sites
I usually use the NIH-National Cancer Institute site. It has listing of clinical trials, types of drugs, different types of cancer treatments. I also depend heavily on the Oncology Word Book by Stedman.
Okay, my experience with cancer

Rather I should say my husband's.  He was diagnosed 6 years ago with stage III colorectal cancer.  Very advanced out of the bowel wall.  They did not think they could cure it, but did say maybe remission.  I was floored and in tears always.  My hubby was a young man, 50.  He had been misdiagnosed by several other doctors and it had reached a very large size by the time it was found.  It was found by a doctor I did transcription for.  This was God's intervention, because I feel this wonderful doctor was  put in our lives to save my husband.  He came and asked me several times to do his transcription and I was so busy I turned him down, but he was such a nice man, I finally said okay.  Well I was talking to him and I mentioned my husband's problem and he said to bring him into the office.  This doctor found the cancer on my husband's first visit.  We had a wonderful surgeon and a wonderful oncologist.  (By the way, all except the surgeon were ESLs so I love doing ESLs now, have a soft touch for them.)

My husband had a very large cancer.  They were very concerned.  We sought alternative therapies, in addition to traditional therapies of chemo and radiation.  He had a 6-hour surgery, blood transfusions twice, blood clots, DVT, abscesses, etc.  It was touch and go, I felt.  Like being  on a rollercoaster.  We prayed and prayed.  We spent lots of money on alternative therapies that we researched on the internet.  Also he had conventional therapy, except had to stop the chemo because of low blood counts.

Well my hubby is still alive today, no sign of the cancer.  In the doctor's consultation letter he uses the word "amazing" about not finding ANY sign of cancer during the surgery.  Everything was just dead tissue, they could find no viable cancer, just friable tissue.  I really believe that with the help of prayer, the angels, God, alternative and natural therapies, plus excellent regular medical treatment, a  positive attitude and creative visualization (which my husband also used) that it saved his life.  We moved 3000 miles after that cancer to where we always wanted to live in the mountains on a farm, both our dreams. I feel like I am living in heaven.  I don't get too worried about what is going on at transcription companies, just do my work, because are so much more important things to concentrate on.

Very little gets either of us down anymore because we learned the hard way what is truly important in life.  My three children have their dad still and I still have my husband.

Good luck and I am praying for you.  Remember, cancer IS curable.
