The surgery center personnel are just as guilty, IMO. sm

Doctors are not untouchable. Any nurse or tech or secretary who has direct knowledge of a doctor using illegal substances and going into surgery is contributing to the problem.

Actually a surgery center is acute care.
But surgery is surgery.  Clinic work is not transcribing anything too invasive other than a Botox injection if you're lucky.  I would think about that rate for transcribing surgeries.  8.5 is low.
I was transcribing a surgery once, the surgery was over and the doctor was dictating
from anesthesia yet.  Anyway, the surgeon dictating stopped dictating and said "Hey Mary - is this one big enough for you?"  It was obvious he was talking about the patient's PENIS!  I thought HOW EMBARRASSING!  I hope they didn't make fun of my anatomy when I got my tubes tied!
New job first, save sick time, then surgery or surgery first?

I’d like to go back to medical secretary work.  I’ve had cortisone shots in my ECU tendon 3 or 4 times and was warned not to have too many or my tendon could rupture.  It’s been very weak for a year or so and my left wrist is smaller than my right wrist.  I can’t type at all with my left pinky so I think it’s ruptured.  I have Word auto correct and Instant Text set up so I very seldom type As, Qs, or Zs.  I haven’t had surgery because I have my own account, no subs, a DD in college to support, and no disability insurance and didn’t want to take time off work for surgery.  I do have medical insurance though my DH.

I’m debating whether to get a job, save up sick time, and have the surgery while getting sick time pay or have the surgery first without any sick time pay.

I’ve done medical secretary work before.  I figured if I use Word there I can save their Auto Correct and transfer mine.  If they use EMR, I can make my own shorts to stay away from Q, S and Z.  I could only accept a job where I don’t type for more than an hour straight, which is what I do now.  Then I started worrying about what if I have to use someone else’s computer?  What if I unexpectedly have to type more than an hour?

I think I have cold feet about getting a job outside the home after over 7 years at home AND I’ve had cold feet about having surgery!  Can someone help me think this through logically?  I can’t think straight when my feet are cold.

Surgery/Plastic Surgery Transcription
Hello. I am considering taking a position in the field of plastic surgery. Can anyone recommend a way to pick up on the terminology FAST?
It can also mean that the QA personnel
has more resources available, i.e., old reports and the like, that the MT does not. Not every company makes old reports on a patient available or old dictations by the dictator available to the MT.
This is a plan to cut QA personnel and cut pay for MTs
Even if you tried, you cannot learn ESLs when they come from different specialities and different languages in a big hospital.  I am a production typist paid 8 cpl and to take the time to "learn" ESL designates a CUT IN PAY for me.   So you may THINK you are making more money but if you factor in listening and listening and listening over and over, making sure you have commas where there should be commas, agonizing over sentence structure, what to type vs whether to cut a run on sentence, that is nothing but a plot to make us THINK we are getting a raise but we are taking a cut on hourly wage.
Non-essential personnel.
You're right about QA. I've been saying this for years. I worked at one of the top hospitals in the country and there was almost no QA or editing after training. You leave a blank and the dictator fills it in and makes other corrections as necessary before signing it. You look it up on the system the next day to find out what it was.

"More suits" are typically found at the national "corporations." So is the high overhead of maintaining a corporate headquarters with lots of padded chairs and air conditioners. I prefer an MTSO working out of their basement but the corporate profiteers devoured most of them or drove them out.

If you are making more and working fewer hours I'd say you are clearly the rare exception to the rule these days. I'm currently making about half what I did a year ago with a smaller company and it's not a bad line rate compared to what most others are advertising.

Between the miserable QA personnel and

physicians who misspell medications, I'm fed up.  Not only are we supposed to check the spelling of a medication, even if the physician spells it, but also, if he or she dicates a letter to a patient, we are supposed to confirmt the patient's address; street as well as zip code.  This is an absolute waste of my time, as the patient's addresses are not listed in any part of the demographics, but on the patient's CHART, from which the physician is looking at while dictating!   I get even more inflamed when I receive an email from QA that ALWAYS include an explanation mark (!) in the opening sentence.  I mean, who in the heck do these people think they are?   I find them rude, demeaning, not to mention totally unprofessional when they care corresponding.  Talk about forgetting one's roots, and how it was for them when they started.  The tone of their emails speaks volumes that they are miserable doing their job, but get their jollies off by writing to you like you were a little kid.  So if you love pulling rank and demeaning people all day, join the QA Department and be miserable like the rest ofl them.

I am slamming the attitude of QA personnel who obviously
hate their job as it is and obviously have verylittle respect for the people they do need to deal with. Your attitude alone is enough to make me not like you and I don't have to deal with you. Thank Gawd!
That's Civilian Personnel Office (CPO)...Sorry.. NM

it all started with the VR software marketing personnel. SM
This craze started about 10 years ago and kicked into full force within the past five years or less. Someone selling the software convinced the physician practices, hospital personnel that they could save a fortune on their transcription costs. Little did they know it takes a Transcriptionist to pretty much retype the report produced by VR, and then sometimes QA/editor to check it. Now that's what I call a savings people. Now the VR systems are being utilized by our ILPs, who try to correct the errors in VR when they do not have a firm grasp on the English language...We're talking double disaster here. Let the doctors and hospital administrators think they are saving bundles on their transcription costs. How very sad and ignorant on their part.
Yeah, but medical personnel who actually work directly with
patients are a bit "different" like that. They think nothing of taking a look or having a touch here and there. And the morbid senses of humor many of them have. My friends from high school are both RNs now, but they're like that.
Sounds like a wartime military POW personnel training manual..nm

Health information personnel, medical records, clerical..sigh...nm

I think you're a little off center

Attitude has nothing whatsoever to do with "success" these days.  I personally know too many MTs,  working for different companies, with very legitimate complaints and they aren't the cry baby types.  I am a good MT also but what difference does that make if there's no work? I always asked the same question, "Do your MTs run out of work?"   I do not have time to sit around all day waiting to see if there might be some work to do...either I work or I don't.  Every recruiter assured me that there was plenty of work.  They lied.  I have worked now for 2 years for the same company and this time the recruiter told me there was plenty of work and obviously there is or I wouldn't still be there.  If and when I start running out of work with them, I am out of MT period.  So, I guess, I have to revise my first statement a little.  If anyone finds the right company for them, then attitude probably does have everything to do with success.  As for myself, I rarely hear anything from the company I work for other than regularly getting my pay stub that my pay has been direct deposited on time and for the correct amount.  I think some MTs put too much emphasis on line rates.  1500 lines per day at 8.5 cpl comes out to a whole lot more than  200 lines at 15 cpl.  As for my line rate, it isn't terribly impressive but I make as much as I want to make and don't have to kill myself doing it so these days that's about all one can expect IMO.

We have a bowling center
And our employees get free bowling, lol!!

How do I center something in Word?
thanks
You are not guilty!!!!

Guys like your stepdad are master manipulators and they know exactly who to target.  They choose victims who they believe will not tell, who will suffer in silence rather than upset the family.  You are guilty of nothing.  He is.  Is there any group in your area you can talk to, or a counselor who specializes in sexual abuse who you can talk to?  This guy will do everything he can to make you feel crazy and make you feel like you’re wrong, he’s right.

Sexual abuse is not just intercourse.  It’s touching, rubbing against someone, exposing himself, making very inappropriate comments.  So whether or not he can still get it up doesn’t matter...it’s still sexual abuse and you are the victim, not the perpetrator.

Guilty of What? sm
Carrying out her wishes?  The last phrase on her tombstone says "I kept my promise"  Yeah he is guilty of carrying out her last wishes.  This needs to be on political board.  I was not very active in politics until this fiasco occurred.  When the leader of a free world felt he was a king and called an emergency session of congress to keep a brain-dead woman alive, and it happens everyday, everyday, the king had to make it a political issue for the right.  This needs to be taken to the political board. This was just a political move, and right wingers will never see through that.  He does not care about a brain-dead woman, look how many, many, 1,000s are dead in Iraq for oil.
What's he guilty of?
I can't believe how many gullible people are out there who have been manipulated by Terri's "poor, poor pitiful me" manipulative tactics.

I guess there are a lot of dumb people out there.
Guilty

I do it too.    I actually look forward to working because I can "escape" from the real world for awhile.

Too bad it doesn't happen every single day.  :)

Guilty.
I gave up drugs and alcohol already, so I'll allow myself my coffee and cigarettes.

However, I have no problem with abstaining/stepping outside when it comes to folks who'd rather I don't do it around them.

Dell's support center
Dell provides technical support from their American staff only to CORPORATE clients, all others, like you and me, we get INDIA.
The medical center by my home is the same (sm)
The last time I was in there the receptionist said that all their dictation is done by EMR.  The doctor pulls up the patient file, dictates into a little black machine, and it is automatically put into the record.  The receptionist said this is done at THEIR medical center and ALL THEIR SATELLITES.  I was not at all happy to hear this.  They used to have transcriptionists.
It's probably a telemarketing call center
using a computerized sequential dialer program - I think they've been outlawed in most of the US states.  If you have caller ID, just don't answer unless you know who's calling.

Feeling guilty
Believe it or not your condition is more common than you might think.  However, it is very serious.  If you do not feel comfortable talking to someone you know then I suggest you speak with someone like a doctor, crisis center or even a local church pastor.  Pastors have a lot of connections in the community and can get you the help you need, most times free.  I wish you well and please do not think your crazy.  Many people deal with stress in very different ways, some are more extreme than others. There is help out there! God Bless.
About feeling guilty

Speaking of feeling guilty, if I hit the lottery tomorrow, I'm going to feel a little guilty that I hit it instead of the poor guy who's worked for minimum wage all of his life, but does that mean I'm going to refuse to accept the prize or give part of it back to the state in which I won it?  I don't think so!

I understand what you're saying, and I agree too that she must do what she feels is right.  If it were me, though, I'd charge my normal rate, and if the client came back to me with a "WHOA!!", then I might negotiate a "little something" out, but remember .... whether an MT types everything out by hand or does a few clicks and "viola" (sp), she still has to meet turnaround time, which means you'll find her sitting at her desk day in and day out.  I personally would not transcribe at substandard line rates just because doctors choose to work smart and use macros because for me to do so would mean I'm not working smart.  JMO.

Guilty about working sm
Hi, My heart goes out to you. The only way my children could be offered a college education was if I worked as well as my husband. We were both working long hours and I know my 8-YO suffered. I worked outside of the home and in transcription. I did everything I could to make up for it during my time off, taking him everywhere I could when I could sneak in a few hours. Don't you know that I'd make plans and have to work (so many times) to keep the account and disappointed him as well. There was one time I had planned a week at the beach for him and the account came in the day I was leaving. I explained my situation to them and asked them to please work around it. They did, but others dropped me like a hot potato. This is a terrible profession for a mom. All you can do is keep telling him how much you love him and you are doing it for him to have a better life some day in the future. Not only was my son able to attend college, but now teaches there. It was not easy. You have to explain, explain that you "need" to work and you're not being selfish. It's a tough enough job (this transcription) and an unappreciated profession IMHO (in my humble opinion). Love him, hug him and try to explain. God bless you for trying. I know how you feel. By the way, you do gain speed after learning an account and it becomes much easier. I have had some awful dictators who no one else could understand, but they "grew" on me and I got much faster and was more in demand than I ever expected. Ask God for help, even if you don't think He has time to answer. If your heart is in the right place, you will be rewarded. Explain that no one can get a decent job today without a degree and you're performing a labor of love for his benefit. Good luck to you and try to enjoy the holiday. I understand what you're going through.Don't give up and things will get better. Don't feel guilty, at least you're trying and you're not lazy.
To: Feeling guilty? From below. SM

Maybe something is escaping me and I don't want to be rude to anybody. I'm trying to understand.

You are an employee who signed an 8-4:30 contract, right? Are the people you are mad about employees, or did your MTSO hire additional IC folks? If she/they did, then that's who you should take issue with.

If these are other scheduled employees who are doing this, you have a choice. You can either do what they do, tattle on them (I probably would), or work elsewhere.

If they are extra IC help, what can you do? Can you make them feel bad about team spirit? I don't think so. Do you think McDonald's feels team spirit with Burger King? An IC is a business owner, in competition with others.

Are the other people employees?

If one is found guilty of it, yes I do. I cannot help
Everyone always has a story and a reason and an excuse as to why they committed their crime.

No empathy from me on it. I expect the law to provide protection for myself and other law-abiding, careful US citizens through many avenues and having a legal record is one of them.

It is a testament to one's decisions, their choices, their consideration for fairness, equality, safety and respect of this country and other fellow citizens.

I back up harsh punishment 100%. A felony on the record speaks for itself.

I'm guilty of leaning (sm)
in towards the monitor to hear more clearly. I don't even know what that means. It's just something I've done for 12 years. ((The monitor is not the doctor. The monitor is not talking to me.)) ;)
pled guilty
I always change it to read entered a plea of guilty or a guilty plea.
Well, I'm probably guilty of giving

more negative than positive feedback not because I don't appreciate good work but just because things are so busy, I only take the time to point out something if the client points it out to me or if i happen to see something that really is wrong.  I try to be fair and not nitpicky and only bring something negative up if it really needs to be addressed.

Honestly, I probably don't make it that obvious when I am thinking an IC anymore, I'll just use them less and someone reliable more.  A lot depends on their attitude and willingness to work on problems.  If someone asks me, though, I will always be honest with them about how I think they are doing.  You should talk to your MTSO and just tell her you're wondering how you are doing, whether there's anything she wants you do to do differently, etc.

I miss working with other people. I miss having a QA person or a supervisor I know and can go talk to. I miss the hospital gossip and hearing about people's grandkids. Sigh. I left them to work at home figuring it would be all that. But it's not. Sigh....

I do virtual call center work and was having sm
trouble with people knocking and calling me interrupting my work. They were always asking for dumb things! (I'm single and this is our only income.)

Thank you for the help and advice. :)
SIL says she went through Wellspan Community Health Center. sm
any idea how to call them? i am not finding that exact name info. i did find roseann freundel as a DO student in WV but just pictured and an article. no contact info.
don't let her make you feel guilty
Kids these days think they are entitled to everything handed to them.  So and so has this or that and lot's of kids brag and lie.  Just stick to your guns.  Mine used to tell me that things had changed since I was a teen but not really, i bought my flinstone mobile from my brother for 50 bucks...holes in the floorboards and all.
Innocent until proven guilty .. except on the web
And apparently if you don't provide a link, that is an open invitatio to be doubted and called a liar? Even without a link, I am perfectly capable of looking into it for myself and I try never to rush to judgment without having all the facts first. It only proves to make me look like a bitter jerk otherwise.
So we are guilty until proven innocent?
And who decides what "bad" things are?  The definition of "bad" can change at any moment.  Voicing your opinion on a chat forum could one day be considered "bad."  Anything could.
I am guilty of clutter though I start out need and -sm
very organized-- though piles are growing in my bedroom right now, total mess. My husband wants a home like those in Good Housekeeping, etc. which will never happen here until the kids are gone, the animals are gone (never), he gets rid of all his antique TVs and radios (about 30-40) (at least 1 -or more- in every room, only 4 rooms are spared--kids BR (2), and the 2 bathrooms)--plus garage is filled with them too. We do a unclutter clean about every 6-8 weeks though it returns fast. Hard to unclutter though with so much space taken up by the TVs--some of which are covered with blankets so that looks real good. But seriously I need to unclutter this house especially my desk area and our BR--messiest room in the house! So I am messy I guess, and he is too though we both want it clean!
I'm guilty of balaning my checkbook sm
or paying bills online. Not a fun distraction but not knowing my checkbook balance is sometimes a bigger distraction. I keep my bills in front of me for motivation and try to keep my book balanced once or twice a week. It really doesn't take me that long.
