he makes a LOT more than me. My monthly pay equals one of his paychecks after taxes, sad. All he has is a 2 year technical degree too. So if we did not have so many expenses we'd be quite comfy (losing a major one in 4 months though, yeah)....in 5 years when the house is paid off we will be every comfy, can't wait to not have to work! I would get back into my jewelry business FT and see if I can finally make that fly! Have a BFA and don't use it, what a waste.

Hospital at-home job vs. service
Here is the scoop:  I work for a service now, but was offered an at-home position with a local hospital at $14.70 per hour with benes.  WHAT SHOULD I DO???????
Hospital versus Service
The experience you will get at the hospital cannot be beat. Nothing compares to having experienced coworkers to help when you are stuck on something.
Do you work in a hospital or a Transcription Service
Office? It is a hospital there should be a manager that you can go to or an administrator. Production is key in hospital work, and it is important you have the quiet you need to produce.
Last resort is applying at the service the hospital is using.
dd
Angry, this happened in our hospital with our outsource service - sm
we had not been checking the outsource service's work for months. Well, it came back to bite us in the ass, because low and behold there was a Transcriptionist that worked for the outsource service that could not type whatsoever - in fact, we even suspected that it was being offshored without our knowledge - that's how bad it was.

anyways, it came back to bite us in the ass because an outside doctor's office received a copy of a hospital dictation and it made us look stupid. So needless to say, we asked that this certain transcriptionist be taken off the account. It was our fault for not looking at the transcription services work, but then again, they guarantee accuracy and crap like that.

Maybe this is what happened in your situation. That all of a sudden the hospital decided to do a QA or some doctor finally read his dictation.

Don't be hard on yourself. You will get the hang of it.
the service that works on our hospital account definitely pads
Many of us inhouse have tried to point it out to the supervisors, i.e. tons of spaces after a header, three or four spaces after a period, using spaces instead of tab button, for god sakes, spelling out milligrams and computerized axial tomography and every single abbreviated term that you can imagine and stuff like that. they even make their blanks verrrrryyyyy long!

Thank goodness the contract with them is going to be coming to an end by March. It just burns us that we get monitored for it, and the outside service does not. They also do not get penalized for mistakes either.
I work for a hospital that has Cerner Classic Radnet and a service that sm
uses Cerner Millenium Radnet. The two are completely different. The Classic version does EXACTLY what you described with ShortHand but they found a solution at the hospital. I will look at it on Wednesday when I go to work. I'm embarassed to say that I have used it for so long that I don't pay attention anymore and can't remember the name of the program.

Florida Universities

Happen to know of a University in Florida that sounds like Wetger's or Wetcur?  I cannot find anything remotely close.

Apparently the colleges/universities have the
same problem with parenteral interference.  It has gotten to be a big issue.  So many are trying to control every aspect of the student's life, apparently made worse by the cell phones, unlimited calling, etc.

Nobody wants to be an engineer...
engineers have no common sense and are boring. And they are on drugs too...:)
I have enough engineer

friends that this may just come in handy as information.  think... Left knee, right knee, 3 controls that could be soldered to buttons... I have 2 older style sewing machines with knee controls...

I'm going to see what I can do (I have 2 spare ISB foot pedals that I may be able to disassemble.  Maybe an angled foot support with pedal controls built in...

I'll ask the new hubby.  I just know someone will be able to solve this one.

XP installs
I have had to "wipe" my computer clean a few times and reinstall Windows XP about 4 times over the past few years (3 of those times not realizing it was the hard drive going bad).  I had to call each time to re-install and get a new confirmation number from Microsoft and explain the situation, including where I bought it and why was I re-installing.  They will while talking to you on the phone, ping the software that you purchased to see if they get any reading.  If it comes back that it has been installed on another computer elsewhere, they will not give you a new confirmation number.  If you share your software with someone else, anytime that the two of you are online at the same time, you risk getting caught because the software automatically tries to ping back to Microsoft for updates, etc., and this is how people get caught sharing.  Remember that your software is registered for ONE computer and if they see two computers using the same, you will be caught.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
You can only do 2 or 3 installs and then
they will no longer install.  This is to keep you from selling them.  I don't know if that is your problem or not.  I don't know why they wouldn't install for any other reason, but if they won't do a self-install, try right clicking and do an open and see if you can find the install command.
What do you mean 3 installs with Bytescribe?...sm...

I'm only talking about the Wavplayer, which was one install.  Did you install the Wavplayer, DocShuttle, and something else maybe?

Thanks for the info on ExpressScribe.  I might give them a try again.  I'm thinking about training my DD and it would give her something to use, at least until we see if she sticks it out.

Don't remember. But I have had company installs and no
p
I see. I agree the three installs is a big downside. ..sm..
I had the same thing happen.  I ran out of installs and then bought a dongle because when I tried Express Scribe the sound was terrible.  I'm glad the sound is better now.  Thanks for clarifying.
Unlike transcription you have to be pretty smart to be an engineer I
:)
and worried if limited installs, I wouldnt be

Depends on what kind of hospital? Large urban hospital or small community hospital? SM

Also, is it a large teaching hospital? If so you have to consider there will be A LOT of different residents dictating, usually a lot of ESLs at teaching hospitals, and the residents rotate out and new ones rotate in every summer. So you can't expect to get the same dictators and build up your macros because the dictators change all the time.

I would say 9 cpl would be a pretty good offer for a small to medium community hospital where you will be doing the same dictators on a daily basis.  But for bigger, urban or teaching hospitals I would want at least 12 to 15 cpl.

I strongly disagree. I dated an engineer; most ingenous, humorous, generous
man I ever had the pleasure to meet. Being smart is smart, he has the Yummie!Wow factor too.
We have decided to add this to our current service not have a new service. It will be easier to sm

keep track of and will just be a different department.

It looks like we will work out details over the next 6 months, talking with community college program directors as well as a few of the distance-learning course leaders to work on the recruiting end.

We will train current staff to mentor if they would like to do so and want to work in the office.

We are still working on production requirements, goals to set, pay, benefits and other fine details but we have 6 months to get it all in place with three months to pull it together after that with a tentative start date of 09/01/06.  We need to build the building as well, although that is already at the blueprint stage in a spot next to our current office.

We did not want to cause flames and bashing by listing the company name as there are always so many negative people on this site, but we are national with over 200 transcriptionists, located outside of Chicago (40 miles west) and have the best team of transcriptionists around!

We will have an "official" announcement after the first of the new year.

Thank you for all of your feedback and suggestions!

My telephone service is VOIP, but it s through my cable service, along with my cable internet. .
We have had VOIP for about a year now and I love it. I really can't tell a difference in traditional service, except the price. One of the best calls of my life was to Bellsouth to cancel our service!
I am not asking for a service, I AM the service looking for recorders
nm
Is there engineer week? Astronaut week? Veterinarian week?
x
Where are the services that pay 11.5?
I have 18 years of experience, and the most I've been offered is 9 cpl and that's jumping through hoops.  11.5 for a company is just not the norm, sorry!
HIM/services will get you any way they can!

Howwouldtheyliketoreadareportjustlikethisandcodeasfastorbill? Maybe we can charge "air time" for all those times the docs leave us hanging while they figure out what they are going to say.

services
Carol, I have never worked for an on-line service but was thinking of switching. I'm tired of getting screwed by the hospital and cheated on line counts. Which services are you speaking of.
Services
Services Provided as Key Activity of the Business

If a worker provides services that are a key aspect of the business, it is more likely that the business will have the right to direct and control his or her activities. For example, if a law firm hires an attorney, it is likely that it will present the attorney’s work as its own and would have the right to control or direct that work. This would indicate an employer-employee relationship.

Does this mean I am not an IC because my company presents my work as its own and they tell me what platform I have to use?
You keep saying they tried other services?
Why did they try other services if they were so happy with you? Maybe they keep coming back, but one day they may not...
What extra services...
I was wondering if any of you MTSOs, or MTs that work for an MTSO, offer any extra services to your clients? For example, do you do their envelopes and labels as well? Or anything else? Keeping in mind that you are not in the same town and that your employees are not in the office or even same state as you, lol. Thanks for any suggestions!

curious
Yes, small services (sm)

used to pay 11 cpl IC, have now sold out to squids who in turn pay 7-8 cpl.

And services left average 8 cpl, if you're really experienced you'll get 10 or 11 and get such bad dictation you'll get a headache you'll never forget.

ICs can work for services, as well. nm

Funeral services
I agree. I personally did not attend my first funeral until I was in my mid 20s, even when my beloved grandmother died, it was her wish that we "kids" not attent (age 12 at the time). I have never forced my own son to attend as a child either. I now feel obligated to attend services for husband's family, etc but always dread the whole ordeal, even for just a distant relative, etc. Grateful that my parents also will not be having formal services, just simple cremation. You must do what YOU feel is right for your child and your own situation.
armed services
My sone joined the Navy in his junior year of college. He went in as an officer. They finished paying his college and then sent him for Officers training. He is now teaching nucler physics for them for 4 years and go do something else in the Navy after 4 years to do anything he wants.
Did you get a contract for your services?????
If so check your contract.

if not

Are they normals he supplied you?? If not then are they YOUR MACROS???? If they are then I would think they would be your property. Did he pay for your ShortHand or Office programs or even your spellchecker????? Did he furnish your computer?????

If your answer is repeatedly no then perhaps you should tell him NO money No macros.

Just my humble opinion.
And then company has right to not use services
x
Not being paid for IC services

What steps can I take to collect payment for my services as an IC?  Company is ignoring me.  The only thing I can think of is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.  Hiring a lawyer wouldn't be worth it.  Thanks.

Transcend Services

Thanks so much for the information.

When you market your services with a
business name and a business license, it shows the doctors or hospitals that you are representing yourself as a professional business and are not just a homemaker or housewife trying to make a few extra bucks. They will treat you with more respect and take you more seriously, and in turn will be willing to pay you a fair rate as a respectable businesswoman. Think about any business in your community or town. They all first procure a business name and a business license before they open their doors. You may be working from home, but you can will present yourself in this fashion. I would also suggest obtaining a P.O. Box to use as your business address instead of using your home address. Believe me, this works. I have been running a successful small MT business from home for over 20 years now, and I support my entire family on my earnings.
No, these services have not cleared
it with their legal staff. If they did, they would not be advertising IC status and flexible schedules, then presenting a contract that requires Tuesday through Saturday, set hours, or Sunday thru Thursday, set hours. No, no one has to accept a contract, and I certainly would not under those conditions. I bet there are a lot of MTs though who need jobs, don't know the law, and who are willing to accept a contract under those conditions. However, it is ILLEGAL under IRS guidelines. If the national MTSOs have consulted their attorneys, then pray tell why are they hiring ICs, controlling their schedules? Under those circumstances, they are considered employees under the law, and these large nationals KNOW IT. I'd fire my attorney if I was told it was okay to operate under the screen of IRS detection. No, you do not have to shy away from services and find your own accounts. Get real. I subcontract to MTSOs, albeit smaller ones, as an IC, and do not have my own accounts. Right now, I am under contract to only 1, and I am not breaking any IRS laws in doing so.
MRT Services - anyone familiar with them?
Anyone ever heard of MRT Services? I saw them online. Please provide feedback.
Gmrtranscription Services

Good morning,

Has anyone heard of Gmrtranscription Services or Verilogue?

I am testing for a home position and I am curious about their reputation.

They transcribe physician/client interactions for medical marketing research.

Any advice is appreciated.

Kymee

I didn't say they tried other services after

Yep, I know they've used Medquist, MRC, Medifax (long time ago - don't think it's the same Medifax that I think is in existence now) and some local services I won't name because they'd be identifiable by their names.  How do I know this?  I knew about it before I even went on my own; in fact, that's one of the reasons I did it.  I saw a need for QUALITY transcription, not the crap that was coming back from services, and I knew i coulld provide that.  Also, I have contacts in the HIM world who told me by name the services they used and what poor quality/turnaround time they were getting.

Transcend services
Has anyone heard of Transcend Services? Is this a good company to work for? I need to find a dependable reliable national co to work for.  Thanks for any advice
