I wanted to move this discussion back to the top so I started a new thread.  She asked if I share any websites or information with the MTs I QA and my answer is, I do.

For instance, when looking up a doctor's name, did any of the MTs here know that most states have a state department for professional licensing where you can look up MDs, DOs, physical therapists, nurses (both LPNs and RNs), etc?  So in addition to using the AMA, website which is great because you can do a sound alike search, you can also go to each state's licensing website.  I should add that no one ever told me this when I was an MT.  I just discovered it on my own because I cared enough about the work I put out to make sure I exhausted every resource possible.

Another nifty, self-taught, trick of the trade... I have the website for every facility for every account I work on in my favorites.  A lot of times a facility will have a doctor finder on their website.  In addition, they may say the name of a ward or department that you might be able to reference on the website.  Not to mention, it helps to know where the facility is located for future reference such as when a dictator mentions a place of employment in a patient's social history.  If you know where your facility is located, then you can look at the yellow pages online for that area.

I always share any great terminology or drug websites I come across.  There's a great website that will list most every hospital in any particular state and a link to that hospital's website.  All I had to do to find that website was do a Google search for "hospitals in Arizona or California or Texas" (whatever state you need) and I found theagapecenter.com website.

No one person ever sat me down as an MT and gave me a step by step on how to use my reference books or the internet.  I taught myself because I CARED.  That's the problem with a lot of the MTs I QA.  They don't care.  The say the MTSOs only care about the bottom line, well the MTs only care about the bottom line too and the end result is poor quality and subsequently loss of American jobs.

But so what?!?!  I'm just a dragon lady and most QA people are just big meanies anyway.  MTs can keep blaming everybody else for their low wages and offshoring, but it's time to step up and take some responsibility.

Through those many years we had the luxury of time for research and education. These MTs today must concentrate on getting as many lines as possible within as short a time as possible. There is just not the luxury of time for research we enjoyed. Its a whole different ball game now. These young robots need every bit of patience, encouragement, and help we can give them in their struggle to maintain a living in our chosen field. They memorize quickly and do not forget the things they must learn on the fly.
THOSE GREEDY MTSOS AND THE BEATING OF DEAD HORSE BY QADRAGONLADY

Yes they are greedy and hire the cheapest they can get by with.  They are the ones who took over what used to be transcription companies owned by women.  They saw a chance to make some easy money and that is the bottom line.  They checked us all out, moved in like vultures and offered our clients free equipment, discounted work for a year, and then it has turned into this mess that we see now with offshoring, bickering, low wages, and on and on.  Now they are overcharging the clients that were unfortunate enough to fall for the line of garbage when theyear switched over to the "bigger techno MTSO" who really were unprepared, as far as I am concerned, for what they took on.  Look where we are now, offshoring, and on and on and on.  Sigh.

Another thing I would like to see is QA departments policing themselves.  I pulled out 22 binders filled with templates, samples, etc. from 10 different sources and guess what I found?  Mistakes by the boatload.  These are samples that were sent out to MTs by QA departments to "go by" - how hilarious. These were companies with great reputations and some are currently in business using the same templates, the same samples, etc.   The temples were to be used "verbatim" and the MT is to insert any changers by the dictator, but all else was to be left.  One had cc as cc's (gasp) and wrong tenses (gasp), 7.0 instead of 7, and on and on.  Some were horrendous and beyond belief and were handed out by QA departments.

One client that I do business with has five QA people and none of them agree with the other.  They all have their own "style" as they put it.  So, it just depends on who is on if they pull your report for a once-over or you have a blank.  Then,, the politics goes like this:  They all want the MTs to send the QAs you got from other QA people to THEM (the QA person who did not QA that report).  That is like QA doing QA on QA.  Sounds like maybe extra careful?   No, they then send it to their supervisor trying to get the other QA persons fired.  Nice colleague interaction going there, right?

I only go by BOS almost completely if the work is hospital because of the audits that go on with JCAH or whatever they call themselves these days.  Then, sometimes the doctors don't agree with JCAH and want it their own way, which may not be the way some QA wants it.  The bottom line is I tell them from the outset that I do it the right way, the way the one who signs the document wants it.  That is the bottom line.  If the hospital complaints I refer them back to the dictator.  When I have one of those I put comments on the page for my future reference and that of QA.  I only violate the dictators wishes when he or she wants me to transcribe against HIPAA regulations (like the patient's name, address, and phone number, etc.)  I then comment that the information was dictated, but not transcribable due to HIPAA regulations.

Go Nana!

I am not very old, but have been doing this a long, long time.  I worked on a typewriter with carbon paper.  Strolling down memory lane!  What a joy!  I'm sure you found out like I did that the world of computers has made life easier to a degree; however, like you I am from the old school where I still pull out my Stedman's even though Google is just a keystroke or two away from me.  I guess I just feel better seeing it in black and white on paper.  I have had to learn to dwell amongst this wonderful cyber world!  I love this board, and I liked your post.  Well put!  We need you Nana!  Keep up the good work!  The new MTs coming into this field are the wave to our future, and I feel they deserve a chance.  We were all new once.  A lot of us were fortunate enough to work on-site for a long time before diving into the shark tank from home!  LOL - This helped me so much!  I am still learning each and every day even after this long time and I am loving every minute of it.  MT or BUST!

Nana - thanks. (sm)

Can I get more advice from you on that first way you do it - when I talk to my boss Monday?

How long have you been doing this?  Is it working to everybody's satisfaction?

Please write to me if you have anything more you can share about it.  I'm working for a walk-in clinic with about 5 centers and they are going a little crazy at the moment trying to figure out how to do all this.

Nana....
if you had a website that was hijacked...do you really believe that you have to just let it go and go start another site? She is telling a HUGE LIE. Her story makes no sense whatsoever. She has no control over this site anymore BECAUSE IT IS NOT HERS!!!! IT WAS NEVER HERS!!!! She was just the money handler! She is a big, fat, greasy LIAR!
I loved it too Nana, old MT here also,
boy do I remember the carbon. I started in radiology where there were 5 carbons, and if I made a typo I had to fix every single one, what a pain that was. Let me say also, I was with MQ 16 years and if I left a blank for QA, they never gave me feedback, never told me about Google (not a computer lover), when I researched, I used books, of which I have many. I was lucky enough as far as the doctor names that my two accounts were local and I had the good old phonebook. I did like your post, made remember the good old days, and sometimes I wish I had one of those typewriters. Have a nice day everyone, I am off today, going to visit my expectant daughter.
Nana needs a hobby
Wow, you sure waste a lot of time getting your anger out at someone who is within her rights to comment on the quality or lack of quality of MTs. Maybe you Nana are a decent MT and they certainly are out there. Can a QA person vent or do you have such a problem with that that you have to write an editorial about it. Get working and get over yourself.
Nana, U are a perfect example...
of all that was wrong with this site B4 - negative, repetitive bashing for no reason other than boredom, I guess. It's interesting how this site has become a whole lot more informative and fun to come to now that all of us horrible "banned" people have come back - in fact, I wear my banning by what's her name as a badge of honor! So please do enjoy her new site - and we'll enjoy ours, mmmkay?
Wasn't bashing you Nana!
I just thought my post might come off like that LOL. Guess I was sort of agreeing with you! Didn't want it to sound wrong since I attached it to yours!
she is nana - the one who is 'spreading the word' over here
that over there is up and running.

She does not get it yet.
She has been referred in the past - sm
by social services, that's where they hooked up with her current psychologist.

It's a rural area, not much to offer, so they are looking further away from home now to find the right person/people for counseling.

Should also mention that SS dropped the ball on more than one occasion when it comes to Tater and her younger brother (different father.) Tater's mom has also relinquished custody of the baby brother in the past couple of months. Just handed him over without so much as a "how ya doin" to the boy's father, who is also the same guy that she had tossed in jail for domestic abuse and has a standing no contact order against. Some mother.
Often times referred to as
Medical Records transcription as in "hospital medical records"......
H&P, Consultations, Discharge Summaries, Op-reports...the basic 4 types of reports that are typically transcribed in the medical records dept. if they are done in-house. Radiology is generally done in the Radiology Dept.
I agree with you, Nana. It's an uphill battle. SM

I do my part by being very lenient with the MTs when reviewing work -- i.e., I don't count off for using cc versus mL or for typing Alzheimer's instead of Alzheimer, etc.  The dangerous abbreviations list is for written notes and orders on the patient's chart.

The flip side of me being lenient is when another QA person counts off for things I've been lenient on, then the MT throws a fit and says "well one QA says one thing and another QA says another."

So, there is a need for a standardized set of rules across the board that all companies should adhere to.  I'm just not sure AAMT or whatever they are called now are the people for the job.  It should be a committee made up of MTs and dictators.

one more ques nana: digital signature. ?how do you get it on there (sm)
On that first way you are describing --- are your docs able to SIGN OFF on the note digitally?
The first time I went to that board I was actually referred
there by an MQ exec. No one at MQ has ever mentioned this site that I am aware of.
Yes! My MIL referred to it as my "little job" when I first started. nm

It is referred to as MDI-Maryland, and it is a good company.
What is it you want to know?

You work as SE (statutory employee).

Set your own schedule, direct deposit, great line rate, always work available (too much sometimes), easy platform. Anything else?

I will try to answer any other questions.
I wasn't able to transfer my file, but someone referred me to..sm

this Productivity Talk board and I e-mailed the "moderator" of the board (and who seems to be the only person in the world who knows how to do this) two weeks ago and I've gotten no response, so that may just be a waste of time, but you could try it.  I have had to manually re-enter my auto corrects yet again.  I went from SmarType on YOG to DQS to new job in Word all in two months.  I so hope I don't have to do this again for a very long time.

Good luck.

Platforms are referred to when you work live
via a VPN or through the internet in some fashion -- when you work directly from their voice server and upload back to their server through the software they use.
One of my instructors referred our class to them a few years back.
I used them for FTP on a paid account (I think it was only like 20 bucks or so a year) and it worked great until a company I signed on with provided their own FTP servers.
That's weird! My MIL referred to my MT job as "my litle job." She has a high opinion of m

Cardiac Clinic - no do not capitalize; Cardiology - yes as it is referred to as an entity. nm
x
I simply used the word as the point of reference. If I had referred to someone AS 'that word'

your read my post that said we are all just people no matter what color we are?

They are SCAM, often referred to as "Trans-scam" sm
Trans America Associates used to be Trans Am and they are apparently altering their name so as not to be recognized for the scam they are.
