True but that is to cover the expenses like rent, office supplies, sm
manager salaries. That does not include payroll that is based on service.

A good example woould be this: You are starting a book store. You need to plan the original inventory and six months worth of expenses. If you sell that inventory, you use the money from that to buy more books. If you do not sell any at first, you can stay in business for six months while you get noticed.

With transcription or any service business, you need enough in the bank to cover the same expenses, those that can keep you afloat while building your client base. However, you only hire more people as you get more customers. The payroll does not figure into the 6 months as it is based on what you provide, whereas the 6 months takes into account what it takes to get it going even if you do not have 1 employee.

Very, very few companies can have $800,000 lying around. If they did, they probably would need to invest it in equipment or spend it in other ways or the IRS would consider it profit and tax the heck out of it!

you get the picture. I don't do the home office deduction though because we keep saying we are going to build on a lot we have and things get screwed up with taxes due to this, something with depreciation, not really sure, know someone who had this problem though, owed a lot back. When we do move, then I will take it since I know it won't be an issue then. I write off about $2-$3K a year which helps some. Was paying quartly but have not done it in 2 years as I usually don't owe more than $1200 and my husband has extra taken out of his pay, so that has always, so far, taken care of any taxes I have "owed". -- Check out the IRS website they have plenty of info on the subject.
the USPS supplies boxes and supplies free of charge..but you have to "order" it sm
by phone.  I'll see if I can find it.  What is sent to soldiers is what is allowed by military protocol..beef jerky would not be allowed in a country that considers beef sacred.  They (military) strongly enforce being considerate of the countrys culture.  within those guidelines, send anything..if the recipient does not want it..it goes on a public area and free for all to share..they love doing it too.
You can get the keyboard letter decals
at several places. Just glue them on.

What marker key are you using sm
for expansion? I forced myself to use the IT suggested markers instead of the spacebar, and I had the hang of IT in the first week. Could not do without it.
If you can't get used to the marker keys, then
right click on Phrases, go to Options, Marker Keys and pick the ones you want to use. I used the space bar for a long time and maybe this option gave me the comfort to use what I knew. Use what you know for now so you can get used to it. IT really is a great program. I like the single and multiple file compilations too as IT then picks out the terms and phrases that you use a lot for you. Keep trying, it's worth the trip.
I too am trying to understand what a marker is. Thank you for your help.

Inscribe help... QA marker and fields
On my acct I am supposed to put brackets and put the time of the marker inside [1.12] for QA to review.

When I put this in and continue, my typing jumps to that field and erases over and over.

Can someone tell me how to prevent this??? It is driving me insane.
yellow marker=flame=hot thread
It's supposed to be a flame meaning it is a hot topic receiving a lot of views. You were so close to the answer. =)
Hardest thing was marker keys
But after about a week, I got the hang of them. Actually, that is THE thing that makes IT worthwhile for all the other features. Just choose keys that are easy for you to use.

Also, I used the expansions I had at the time from the old Expander and created a glossary from those, so my familiar expansions were already there. Once I got the hang of the marker keys, then I started utilizing more of the features.

I love my IT!

Webmedx supplies all equipment. They do have a (sm)
pretty high ratio of ESLs, but the QA is really good here. They DO NOT penalize for blanks or sending reports to QA. I don't know about family insurance, but single is very reasonable, BCBS. They also offer dental and vision.

Why is it that court reports are so well respected and their pay never an issue?

I feel like I am stealing when I ask to be compensated for my knowledge, experience and reliability. It is basically the same work, one is in legal field and one in medical field. What is up with that????

Keep in mind that if gas supplies are low, how will trucks get their loads to the store.
It's a good idea to stock up now. We went to Sam's Club tonight. Bought 25 pounds of sugar, 10 pounds of flour, 10 pounds of beans, 4 large jars of peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, powdered milk, etc. If those damaged pipelines aren't put back on line fast, there may be shortages.

Just be sure to buy things your family will actually eat. Don't forget to store water. Prep as if you're expecting to be off the grid for a month or more.

To learn more about prepping, Google "survival."

power supply is the same way.  I have 3 Dell laptops and a Dell PC and there are indeed a number of items that are proprietary.  However, I love all of my Dell products and wouldn't trade them for anything.

Unless we are transcribing, we are losing money. This is why a relative decent line rate is not asking for a lot, I believe.

I do think we should all have a savings account though. I have 17 hours of PTO that I am going to cash in.

Have most people had good luck with their MQ office closing and moving to the regional office. Have
things gotten better or worse for you.
Yes, I lost mine. I upgraded the Office 2000 package to Office 2003. sm
I have over 2000 autocorrect entries and lost them all as well as my supplemental dictionary for my Stedman's spellcheck. Lots of grief!

Maybe you will be lucky and not lose anything. Good luck to you.
Might be able to rent one from an office supply or office machine repair shop

Office politics. That is why I enjoy working at home. In the office,
people are in other people business. Just mind your own business.
Magic
I use Stainless Steel Magic which you can buy at Bed Bath and Beyond and Home Depo. You have to be so careful not to use any product that will cause streaking. You must never use like a wet rag or anything, or windex, so this spray product and also the wipes that they make are really the safest. Do a fairly small area at a time and wipe it off with a soft cloth, then buff. It will look like a picture in a magazine. It's the last thing I do before company comes, and it looks great, but not for long! I also use their countertop magic and cabinet magic. The cans are like $5.00 each and last forever.
No magic in VR
I lost an account to a radiology group and they have been trickling back. Any VR program that is only 4K can't be very good. These guys to which I refer must have spent 100K on their program.
No magic with MM (sm)
It is HORRIBLE. I am so stressed out from trying to get a decent line count. I know how you feel. I have never worked on a platform worse than this.

I have a Magic stove too...
that is the actual name on the stove. LOL! Some people take thing way to seriously on this board.
MediTech Magic
Any info on Meditech Magic?  Pluses, minuses.  Any information you can give would be appreciated.
You said the magic word...
but they don't... and that is a shame.  To them, we (the MTs) are a dimeadozen...they can take us or leave us, there's always somebody waiting in the wings to snap up our job...They may not be as good as WE are (of course!) but nonetheless, they are there...sad but true I'm afraid.
ok. But VR it is not a magic pill
I've been researching the threats to us by VR. I have found that even with Escription, you need the doctor's cooperation. Their claim that the doctor doesn't need to change his dictating habits is not supportable in the real world. Also, is anyone aware that the software company that provides VR is raking 2 or 3 cents a line off the top just for the privilege of you being able to buy their prohibitively expensive software?
Magic Jack

I have seen several posts on the board about using Magic Jack with a C-phone etc, however, would like to find out more about it regarding voice quality etc.  I have both a wireless setup as well as an air card from Sprint and talked to the Sprint rep last night about using Magic Jack with my air card and he said that because my connection speeds are extreemely good, he did not foresee any problems.  I also talked to a "tekky" friend of mine in Las Vegas and he said that he has a client who loves it, but in reading the reviews, I have seen both good and bad about it.  I wouldn't at this time need it for work, but just more as a "home phone line".  Any information would be GREATLY appreciated.  Thanks

meditech magic
I am starting to work on Meditech magic and no here really knows how it works. Can anybody here give the functionality (F) keys for this program........I am at a lost of words. TIA.
Does anyone who uses the Magic Jack (sm)
Suddenly today, Saturday, have the foot pedal not work?  This is the first time I have ever had this problem and I am wondering if it is systemic today - and hopefully everything will be OK.  Any advise please.  This was only phone option I had for LDS and its pretty scary not to be able to work with it today.  Thanks for any advise or comments.
Magic Jack - sm
I had to send mine back the first day I tried it. I could not get the foot pedal for my Lanier to work with it. I was very disappointed, as it would have saved a lot of money. Hope it was just your system.
MAGIC JACK
not wanting to work?? I've had Majic for for a while now and never had a problem with my footpedal til now.  I'm on my second C-phone and still footpedal problems?
Magic Jack
I was thinking about this once as well but I went online and read reviews and after that, I was not convinced it was a very good idea because of some of the glitches they need to fix. I can't remember all the details but it would behoove you to read the reviews first. Good luck!
Magic Jack
I have read previous comments about Magic Jack and was wondering if there were any more recent experiences about using Magic Jack with a C-phone. Vonage wants to up my plan to business because of the amount of time I am using it and then with all the fees tacked on, I'm looking at at least $55 a month for a business plan up from $35. I would rather use Magic Jack if I can see other transcriptionists are happy with it. Please post if you don't mind. Thank you!

magic jack
I have Magic Jack and it works flawlessly as a phone.  Would it work with transcription?  I only have a cell phone and the Magic Jack line.
Magic Jack
No Magic Jack does not work with the C-phone's foot pedal.  You can make calls with the C-phone but when you use the pedal it does not work.
Meditech Magic
Meditech Magic - is it easy to learn? Any hints? TIA.
