Y not? As doctors get younger, they'll all be able to
Internet slang their medical reports using their blackberries.  TPW AAK.  (The patient was alive and kicking.)
this happens to me occasionally too

Usually it's an ESL doc - they switch genders mid report constantly

If there are no other clues in the report, i.e. physical exam (male/female genitalia), I go with whatever was stated in the history - in your case, female.

Not the OP, but I occasionally get
The first time I thought there was something wrong with the audio. It sounded like a stuck record. Two minutes of actual dictation and 3 minutes of perrrriod, perrrriod, perrrriod!

This happens to me occasionally...

The platform I work on is EXText.  When I am in EXText and try to save something to AutoCorrect, sometimes it doesn't stick.  I have found that if I go into my regular Word program and save it there, when I go into ExText the AutoCorrect entry has been saved.  I'm not sure if this is your problem, but hopefully this will help.

Not slow for me. I occasionally welcome
a slow day, just haven't had one in a very long time - though I'm not complaining.    I know there are lots of companies with little work.   I find it hard to believe there isn't work, it is just being outsourced or the pets are getting it.
You have my sympathy -- I have flares occasionally sm

and it is no fun -- my ring finger and little finger go completely numb!  I have seen a hand surgeon a couple of times, and he recommends frequent breaks, stretching exercises, and high doses of NSAIDs.   When it is really bad, I have had a shot of Marcaine in my elbow.

Good luck!

i do it occasionally when needing to catch up; sm
as the other poster said, my production shows in the next 2 days though. i always keep a light on (not just a lamp). i have lots of dr. pepper. i usually do laundry so that every 45 mins or so i have to get up and fold another load and that keeps me awake. i avoid food as that will make me sleepy too. also do as the other poster said, don't surf the net at all as that makes me sleepy to. i stick to my work and knock it out as quickly as i can.
I get tendinitis too occasionally. If I catch it in time, sm

can avoid the trip to the orthopedist for the x-rays, exam, shot of Marcaine and big bill (ugh).  He gave me stretching exercises to do every hour or two, and I take 3-4 ibuprofen (actually, Advil Liquigels -- it may be just hype but I do believe they work faster) if I have a flare.

Good luck.

If you have ever noticed, occasionally when starting up EXText, you will get a message that says SM

something like "the local normal doc is newer, would you like to use this one" and if you click "no" you basically loose all your macros and have to start from scratch.  I've had this happen countless times.

I haven't had it happen for a while.  I created my macros in plain Word BEFORE running EXText and so far so good.

Not much help, I know.

My ankle pops. It's not painful, but occasionally it will get stiff and then pop very loudly.

Techs
When I worked for MQ on the new platform, it wouldn't connect. I called tech support and talked to a lady there. She asked me if my phone line was connected and I told her no, I had high-speed internet. She said "But is your phone line connected?" I told her again, no, I have cable. She said, and I am not kidding, "Do you have an adapter to connect your cable to the phone line?" Where do they get these people?
mammo techs
As much as you wish the tech would give you a hint, really you shouldn't take their word. These mammograms will be glanced at by the radiologists before you leave to be sure that they can SEE all the areas that they will need to study; however, they will be *reading* the mammo after you are gone (unless you are an extremely slow dresser LOL). The radiologists I worked for took their time and used magnifying glasses and really looked these things over. So I really doubt the tech is going to be able to give you any kind of reassurance.

If I were you I would just stress to the tech that you hope you can hear something ASAP. Maybe she'll relay that to the radiologist.

Good luck, I hope the lump is just a cyst or fibrous tissue. Keep us posted.
Pharm techs
Here's a link to the Bureau of Labor Statistics explaining what pharm techs do and the salary. (Note that it says some of their duties will be replaced by automated prescription-filling machines. LOL! It sees no one is immune!)

For comparison, see the salary surveys for coders at www.aapc.com and www.advanceforhim.com.

Did the techs say why? And do whole op notes really fit in the expander? nm
nm
Don't think techs will tip you off, but a word of caution - (sm)

Don't get scared needlessly if they want to "redo" any of the films.  That happened to me once, and the tech left the film up on the board where I was waiting and I saw this huge spot of light and I was absolutely sick worrying about it until I heard from my doctor.  It was normal, and several times since then they have have to "redo" some of the films.  Try not to worry, and be glad that you have doctors who ARE cautious and speed things through.

scary echo techs

Good luck with the techs
I emailed a question last thursday and still haven't heard back.  Time to look elsewhere. Their platform is horrible.
So tired of these support-less techs at companies.

same ole answer- I don't know, not my job.  What is their job?   I can't work, I don't get answers, and it is their software.  First answer when I call the office is call support services.  Call support service and they say it is not their job.  Who it the sam $ell's job is it?  I can't work.

Guess these wonderful techs don't know that without us they have no job and it is possible to work without fancy programs with off the shelf software.

Is there a college in your area that offers training for x-ray techs?

If so, go to the college bookstore and check out the textbooks they have for the x-ray tech courses. There should be lots of good information there.

If you have any anatomy books, study them, not just the major bones, but the landmarks on the bones like the greater and lesser trochanter of the femur, tibial spines, things like that. Also study the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of the shoulders, wrists, knees, and ankles. MRIs cover a lot of that.

There are a lot of online anatomy sites if you don't have any books of your own, or you can check with your local library.

Good luck! Radiology is a great field. I love it.

Emergency question for brilliant computers techs. sm
I just had a weird experience with my computer.  The screen looked like it was shaking.  I thought it was in Word at first, but the desktop was doing this also.  It was like a wavy line was going down the screen, part of it would jump a little bit, then below it some more would jump.  It was almost like a wave pattern to the side, I could see the edges of the screen moving in and out.  I thought I saw this yesterday once or twice, but decided it was my eyes.  It wasn't, this was definitely real.  It lasted for approximately a minute.  Is this something to worry about?  TIA.
True! Computer techs are all foreign. Used to be a good-
still have a tech job are usuallyh IC's, with no job security and no benefits. Lots of computer and microchip manufacturing jobs, that spawned the 'Silicon Valley' in California have gone offshore. Now even radiologists have to worry about their jobs, as some places send the x-rays digitally to Philippines to be read.

What I'd like to know is.... What exactly is going to be LEFT in the United States for US to do? Gas station attendant? Nope... most are self-serve, unless you live in Oregon. Wal-Mart Greeter? Hmm... not old enough (or retired enough) for that. Farm worker? Nope. Mexicans have cornered that market. Waitress? Nope. Lots of eat-in restaurants going belly-up these days. Typesetter? Nope. Newspapers are going extinct. Web designer? Nope. Most people can design their own nowadays. Retail? Same as the restaurants. Teacher? Whoa - talk about an underpaid profession! Nurse? Another underpaid one. Not a good choice for us work-at-home recluses. Truck driver? One of the few jobs where they need people, but to make ends meet these days you have to pretty much live in your truck. Flight attendant? Not a good choice for us recluses who hate to fly. Rap artist? Pretty saturated field. Hair stylist? I don't even comb my OWN hair most of the time, and haven't cut it in years. So I'd be pretty useless unless someone with long hair wanted a French braid. Chef or short-order cook? Not if you only cook TV dinners. (Does that count as cooking?) Dog-walker? Nah - I'm a cat-person. Bike-messenger? In my town, most of em don't live very long. You never see middle-aged bike messengers. Taxi-driver? Nope - the Sikhs have cornered that market. Executive secretary? (What? Go back to wearing heels and pantyhose? NEVER!)

I'll vent and I'll sign my name sm
I have two IC contracts right now. I recently went back to a job I had quit earlier in the year to work for the other company I am still working for.

The newer job has 80% ESLs. I transcribe OP notes primarily and I can fill in other work types as the opportunity arises. I am frustrated with this particular situation. After 6 months, I am making less money and working longer hours. I am past the learning curve and I should be doing better, at least in the number of hours I am spending doing the job. We have run out of work for 24 hrs at a time at least 5 or 6 times since December 1, and in November it was more than that. I have a friend who worked for this company as well and she was having similar difficulties. The only thing that we can figure is that they are shorting us line count some way, because after 6 months at it, it should be easier/faster/more money, but it is less and less every single pay period. It is not a nice thing to accuse a company of doing, but it SEEMS that way to us. I am fed up with being expected to type every single OP note that comes in 24/7 and meeting the 6 hr TAT for them on weekends, evenings, holidays, wee hours of the morning...

I took back a job I held for 2-1/2 yrs. The team leader has changed and this gal thinks that I should be on call 24/7 for whenever she has work. I might have some at 7 a.m., or perhaps not until 6 p.m. or later. I can't plan my personal life and between these two IC situations, I find that I am not eating on a daily basis, not showering on a daily basis and not sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at a time. I have lost weight and I don't feel very well. I woke up today with a rip roaring head cold (my first in nearly 8 yrs) and it has already moved to bronchitis and I am expecting pneumonia by the weekend because I develop it very easily. I already have deep pain in my back.

Yes, I should call in sick tomorrow, but I really can't take the fallout. The job I took back I am covering for another gal who wanted vacation over the holidays and if I have to call in sick, the team leader will call me and pitch a fit about how this is my responsibility. It IS my responsibility, I did say I would do it, and I will do it, despite being quite ill. In the past, when I worked for this company, they would not allow me to call in sick for a "cold" without a doctor's note. I worked through many illnesses with them and only called in sick when I developed West Nile Fever and while I was sick for over a month, I only called for my last 12 reports one day when I could no longer see the computer screen because my head hurt.

The problem is that yes, many MTs lack work ethic. They don't take their responsibility seriously. This is not a work as you please career, not even for an IC. I can see the MTSO's point of view, I truly can. Like finding experienced, reliable and capable MTs, for the MTs who are these things, finding a company will treat you like a human being is equally difficult. I sit here, feeling lousy and like I am an utter slave labor with no consideration whatsoever. I know that my work needs to be done, but when I am this sick it is better that someone else do it for the sake of the work, for accuracy and for speed of getting it out. I know that I am needed, but to be the MT these companies need me to be, I also need to look after my own health.

I will also mention that when I have asked for vacation, I have been approved for the time, but the MTSO queues up my work and calls me then I am not on the system getting it done. I have told them I had been approved for time off, but the MTSO didn't schedule anyone to cover for me and I am told to get on work, vacation or no, if I want to keep my job.

Thus, I work 24/7/365 and have for years. I work sick, I work when I am in pain (I have an AI disorder), I work exhausted from staying up all night covering for others who are allowed to call in sick and have vacations when I can't have either. I work having no health insurance and not being able to afford the $125 a month to buy some with a high copay so I can see a doctor. I work without breaks for breakfast, lunch or dinner and I sometimes come close to having an accident because if I leave my desk to go to the little girls' room I get nasty calls about where I am at and what I am doing.

Many MTs are mistreated, and I am one of them.
Yes, they are supposed to, but
and it is our responsibility to do the VERY best we can with what we are given. I KNOW there are crappy dictators;I do way more than my share 'cause cherrypickers don't get called on the carpet(but that's another story). I don't earn much at this and it stinks, but I just can't believe that you think we do not contribute to patient care and are merely "typists". No wonder we can't get any respect in the form of better pay, etc. Just because the doctors make the big bucks we should do sloppy work? I don't think so. Don't you want your records or your family's to be accurate? I would hope so.
wow! are we supposed to be seeing this?
?
Well, how are they supposed to get the

Since my kids and breastfeeding, they hang down to my bellybutton so to speak. I would just like them firmed ang tightened back up and sit on my chest where God put them and not hang so much. I even tried standing on my head for 5 minutes at a time 3x day - and that didn't help any!! LOL.
