I get it. It can get to you. Did not mean to criticize. nm

Easy to criticize when we don't know them.

I have been fortunate enough to transcribe for local doctors for most of my 17-year career.  One of the meanest MDs I've ever had to schedule for (previous job) is also one of the very best, easiest dictators I've ever transcribed for.  Any newbie with a lick of common sense and decent English-language skills could transcribe him well.  I was absolutely shocked the first time I saw his name pop up on my Lanier and I heard him from a whole new side

The same ER doctors I've had the great misfortune to see in the ER turned out to be quick, clear, efficient dictators.

I once worked for three urologists.  One was a slick hotshot surgeon, very full of himself, and was having affairs with nurses all over town.  Strangely enough his rapid-fire dictation with a certain strong Northern accent was possibly my favorite dictation of all time.  He would wait to dictate until he was through seeing patients, and then he would start at the top of his patient list and dictate a clear summary in about 15 works each patient, and then move right on to the next one.  Doc 2 was a wonderful, serious, caring person, great surgeon and easy for patients to talk to.  Not surprisingly, he dictated while he was still seeing patients, had a lot to say, and might go back and forth between patients, which was inefficient for me.  It just took a long time, but he was clear and all.  The third MD seemed to be an icky person and a horrible dictator.

On the other hand, some fantastic primary care doctors I've known have been very annoying, talking slowly, making multiple edits, spelling common drug names and going on for 17 minutes for each mundane case.

Sooooo ... people are not always what you'd expect from their dictation.

A majority of . . .
one.  How interesting.  I will certainly believe one person over the countless others.  Uh huh.
The majority of us do far, far less than that, unfortunately. Definitely

I think the majority of mistakes are
merely typographical or expander errors.  If MTs weren't paid such rotten line rates on production, maybe they could afford to relisten to and reproof every single report.  However, the people responding to the original post have evidently never made a single mistake in their entire lives.  Ah, yes, condescending, snotty superiority complexes on the rampage.  I'd be interested in seeing the MT profiles on those quoted reports, how many lines per day they produce, how many years of experience, and so forth.  For that matter, we could all sit here and rip on the mistakes we've found on completed reports, but personally, I don't feel better about myself by trashing other people.  My self esteem isn't measured by how stupid I think everyone else is like some people on this board.
By the page if the majority
of your work types are diagnostic plain films, such as chest and bone x-rays but if you have a lot of MRI's, CT's and special procedures such as catheter placement and removal, PET scans, angiograms and stent placements then by the line is more profitable.
The vast majority...
of kids do not get wrapped up in the things you did.  My DH is a  public school administrator and sees this stuff playing  out first hand.  He sees all the trouble makers and generally it's the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree" syndrome.  Once he meets the parents, he can usually tell why the kids act the way they do.   I tell my kids that peer pressure is bunk.  The ultimately responsibility for making bad choices lies with the individual.  You can only be pressured into what you want to be pressure into.   You can't blame the schools totally, which by the way are not any worse than they ever were.  I was a teen in the 70s and there's nothing much new going on.   Ever generation thinks it's worse now than the good old days.  In the 1920s they were aghast at girls showing  their ankles.
The majority of mine do not even...
bother saying that, they just continue on as though nothing happened... !!!
The majority of normals are seen
Normals can also be a repetitive statement that the dictator makes, which you then turn into a normal so you do not have to keep typing the same thing over and over again.  Some use shortcut keys or Expander program.  I am not an expert on any of these as I do not use them.  Some who work in MS Word use autocorrect to expand terms or phrases that are said time and time again by a specific dictator.  I use autocorrect in Word and like it.  Hope this helps.
Majority of time, no MTs. Right now..sm
however, a lot of people are leaving one of the big nationals, some after many years of service. Many are very experienced in multispecialty/acute care transcription, so until that settles down, there are a lot of good MTs looking at the moment. That's probably why you are seeing conflicting reports. In my personal experience, the majority of the time, there IS a shortage of well-trained, experienced, and reliable MTs. The good ones often get snatched up quickly, net good-paying jobs, and stay at those jobs, so they aren't always looking. Timing is everything. ;)

Also, to answer your other question, if a company is offering only 5 cpl, they are likely going to get responses from 5-cpl MTs so that certainly can play a role. IOW, the very good MTs typically won't respond to an ad for a job paying only 5 cpl, as they realize they are worth far more than that.
So the majority would feel ?
If the remote MTs are employees and are scheduled for 8 hours for coverage, the company can require them to work a complete 8 hours ?  This means that the ones who can produce more lines in those 8 hours will be paid more, while the ones who produce only their line count will get compensated accordingly.   The schedule is for a reason and needs to be followed for coverage.  Some of the MTs are only thinking of the "required" line count, not thinking in hours.   Maybe the wording should be changed to "minimum daily line count".  Just want to be sure it is not a far-reaching thought to think if you are an employee and are scheduled for 8 hours, that you should work 8 hours.  I know situations vary, but do most of you work a complete 8 hours, or just until you reach your minimum line count ?  Thanks.
Can't stand the majority of them...

I have several on my account that just make me cringe.  One ESL tries to talk so fast she stumbles over nearly every word and says, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, repeatedly.  Another ESL ends every sentence like its a question, like a teenage girl.  I have one American woman who adds an extra ah-syllable at the ah-beginning of some of her ah-words.  Took me forever to figure that one out!  I had one at my first job who practically whispered huge operative reports.  Nuts!

I had another American this week that had me pulling my hair out.  She had someone else reading the PE and lab results to her in the background and then she was repeating them.  Drove me crazy!

If there are a majority of MTs making
the same mistake, send it to everyone. However, if 1 or 2 are making the mistake consistently they need to be notified, becuase no one believes it is them making the mistake a lot of the time.
majority are for at-home then?
I take it then the majority are for at-home positions?
Here you go, the majority of posters
are on your side.

Nobody can make you and your daughter to agree to take the vaccination.

And...I see no typos...!
So you disagree that the majority of MTs are
underpaid for their skill level? Just because you have a 15 cpl account (for now until you're underbid at least) doesn't mean the rest of the MTs are paid that well. The world is bigger than just you & you should learn compassion for others.
Can't please everyone although we try. The majority like the larger font.

OF COURSE we know what daycare is! Its anyone OTHER than Mom spending the majority of the day
course, just the way lots of you like it!! Dump and run!!  Unreal. The Govt monitors day care - oh, there's a relief!  Then the Govt monitors schools, which are your next dump off point for your kids! And of course you can't spend the day with your own kids - they grow AWAY from parents over the years, not closer.  You can't control your own kids, cause they're NOT your kids - they belong to daycare and their peer group friends.
Not just speedy, but lucky in a way that the majority of us out here will never be. :( nm

You mean by report/not page? If the majority of my
reports were the type you do then of course by the line but with general x-rays you fair far better with pay by report!
Proof while I read that's it. The majority of the sm
nationals look at quantity not quality. If you don't get 1200 lines minimum a day there are issues. A person can type 2000 lines a day with a0 lot of errors and QA just pick a few reports with 1 error they have 98 or 99% accuracy.

Go through your local yellow pages and look for insurance companies who advertise health insurance and start calling.  Call several so you can compare rates.  Your weight issues are going to make your premium higher than it would if you were a normal weight.
You're not weird, actually you are in the majority!

You're in the majority, not the minority. There's
not much difference, which is why VR is a ripoff. I won't do VR unless they decide to make the pay fair for it.
The majority of companies DO NOT count
those. I happen to be lucky and work for 1 who counts both and my IC counts headers, but not footers.
Some US dictators or worse than the ESLs and the majority sm
of specialists are ESLs.
I agree with your reason for the majority of mistakes -- SM
being merely typos or expander errors....that is, for experienced MTs. Newer MTs might have more serious errors.

However, I work for 2 of the biggest national companies and make over 10 cpl at each one. I make great money. I'm not being paid "rotten" line rates.

I do NOT relisten and reproof every report...I don't have to. I have not had a QA score below 99% at either company...so, yes I make errors, but rarely and nothing major. I obtain the highest production incentive at each of my jobs so I do have great production. I have a very stable and impressive "MT profile".

I am not without mistake. I am not the fastest gun in the West. I'm not the most experienced...but I am skilled, polished, and top notch at what I do. I am rewarded for it from my employers.

Yes, I have had bad experiences in the past. That's the key though -- they are IN THE PAST and I don't keep them in front of me. I got over it and moved on. I did not allow others to treat me in a manner I did not want.

Not every work situation, worktype, workload, dictator is for every MT. Everyone has different niches in this business. Everyone has different levels of expertise and different speed/production.

Your generalities do not apply to everyone. You can only speak for yourself.

You most certainly do not speak for me.

If you are careful with putting the correct report in the correct report shell and patient, you will
not have any problems. I only take away this option when someone is careless. There can be NO room for error on this. One mistake can be very serious. Many do it well though, so just double check and you will be fine.

Do the majority of MTs reread or relisten to all the reports you do and how much time does this take
or I suppose rather which is more effective and takes less time. Do you do this for every report you do. Do the big nationals require this. I suppose it depends on your QA score if you need to do this.
A FEW cases are probably genetic. The overwhelming majority are smokers.

I think the majority of families in America are dysfunctional nowadays!
I have yet to find or meet a functional family.

My little family of 4, meaning me, my husband and 2 children are functional, but when you add in my side of the family, 5 siblings, and his side of the family 5 siblings, it becomes totally dysfunctional. Go figure!

I can only do the best with my own little family of 4 and keep us a functional, caring, productive family giving back to society in a positive meaningful way. I can not control the siblings or extended cousins, etc.

It is my goal to keep my little family of 4 functionally intact forever!
can someone please tell me how the majority of Indian MTs could ever pass the AAMT CMT exam? sm
I should not classify them as a unit, however after seeing so much garbage come in from India, I cannot fathom how they are passing the CMT examination through AAMT? In order to take a test of that capacity, one would need to comprehend the basic command of the English language. I'm just so sure the Indians would let us join their alliance or organization called "IAMT", yeah right! I'll be the first to admit, I could not pass a foreign language MT test, nor do I profess to. Sad we are being sold out by our own because we won't pay hundreds of dollars to take a test, which in reality offers us no incentive in terms of pay increases for CMT status. Just my opinion.
Infinity makes the majority of the foot pedals, though
some are configured to work only with proprietary programs, so even though it is Infinity brand doesn't mean it will work with your player program.  I have an Infinity pedal that only works with one player program.
Infinity makes the majority of the foot pedals, though

they may be sold through many different companies and under different names.   The pedal you get depends on the software you will be using it with.   The USB works with most programs; however, there are programs that have proprietary software and the foot pedal has to be specifically configured for it.  The pedal looks the same, it is just the wiring that is different.

If you don't yet have a job that requires a pedal I would wait.  You can test w/o a foot pedal using hot keys.  Some companies will even provide a foot pedal.

Thanks for sharing. I also travel A LOT..and the majority of the time things go smooth, but sometime
Last time we went on vacation, I forgot to pack my keyboard that I had just bought for $50 and had to run to Radio Shack and get another cheapo for $30. Then, the hotel internet was AWFUL and kept cutting me off so production was sloooooow..Overall, I just check ahead to see what the hotel offers in terms of internet etc..and I do end up having to pay anywhere from $10-12 a night at hotels but it is worth it so I am not missing work or using all of my PTO time. We're heading to Mexico next year and the hotel has wireless so I think I'll give it a whirl. We have a condo in Hawaii and I have sat out on the lanai all day looking at the ocean and working. It was the highest production I have ever had. The only downfall I have found is trying to remember all fo the time changes so I am starting and stopping when I am scheduled. Hawaii is 5 hours different from home so I had to factor that in. In any event, thanks for sharing and I agree. Vacation can be fun AND productive.. LOL

okay, you are correct of course, except
The below posters are correct, of course. I called my boss and they said, "No, this would PROBABLY be against the privacy laws." About the 'Googling" of names, however, the only reason I have been Googling names is because the doctors won't SPELL THEM OUT, and my accounts are not 'searchable'. I do not use any info besides just the name...no SS #... if I find a Verbatio Kertalino (not a real name)in Google in the correct city, I can be pretty darn sure this is the correct person. If there is any specific reason I should not do this, I will stop, but I do not think so! If you posters are pretty SURE this is not ethical, I will call my boss and ask about that also! I use Google also, of course, to look up the spellings of local businesses and hospital and clinic names that they do not spell out. Otherwise, every single report would go to QA! And, if you can't post in a courteous manner, please do not bother posting at all!
That is correct
Any useful tips that a QA member can provide an MT is great. Expansions, websites, etc. If I fill in a blank, I would be apt to send an MT a link to go along with it where she can find it and bookmark it for later use.
