The bonuses are tied to taking on extra work on top of your regular workload, not production or longevity.  It's per extra shift or per extra report on backlogged accounts.  Call and talk to them if you have any questions.

Do you normally send your work each day as 1 email ? - sm
If that is the case, then make sure you save all the sent emails (I save it all) and then all you have to do is bring up her email address, select all the appropriate emails that were all ready sent, hit forward for all of them and enter in her email. Should take you less than 5 minutes to do all this and be relatively painless. --- if this does not work, yes, go for the billing route, she should be saving the work or at least keeping a backup copy of it for a min. of 3 months. I could see a file now and then but not all the time as she is doing. Very disorganized. Good luck.

would be nice. MQ is not getting any easier. My account has been picked over thoroughly when it went on DQS by ASR and I get all the remains because they only have a core group doing ASR which I think is wrong because you get all the bad dictators and it would be nice to be acknowledged that at least you know the person you can discuss problems with as they crop up. This is a big one and we have no manager anymore and no one to discuss this with at all in my office so you just sit here very day doing this work and no way to vent to someone that could offer some suggestions on this and other issues that come up to help relieve some of the stress of working this way.

Extra shift or extra work
Has anyone taken on an extra job or shift with a new company for a just a few months to get out of debt or to be able to pay for something that is needed or wanted?  I am thinking about taking on another job to get out of a stressful debt situation.   I am just afraid I would be going into another stressful situation working more hours with the very busy family schedule I have.

And I may be able to help a little.  I'm working with a man who is branching off of his parent's MT service in Florida who has done the research, and is now working on finding the doctors interested in upgrading from tape to digital for their service.
Too big to send by email

I actually need advice on two matters:


1.  My doctor's office received a file that is too big to send by email - and I only have dial up, so even worse.  They are planning to send this to me by USB flashdrive.  I need advice on how to work with this when it comes.  How will I get it into Express Scribe so that the foot pedal will work?


2.  I am starting my planning to set up my laptop for traveling.  I have a desk PC now and will be using both, depending upon where I am at.  What do I need to do to get Express Scribe, etc. to accommodate this.  Any details are greatly appreciated.

It is fair to send email sm

ask then via email, if they would mind sharing what is the lowest to the highest line rate offered, prior to test taking, resume and interview as this will save valuable time on both sides.   This is what I do, won't continue to waste my time (takes a lot of time) and end up with some ridiculous offer.  NOPE.


A few months ago, without knowing I was being hired to voice recognition until after the fact, was offered 5.7 for voice recognition and 9 for straight typing.  Of course, there was only a dribble of regular MTing, , so it averaged out making 6.7 cents a line.   It comes in as combo into the platform so 90+ was voice recognition and is broken down on the line count log.


So say had a total of 200 lines - and 90 percent (80 lines) was VR at 5.7 cents a line.= $4.56.   I bet some get even less VR rate too..


That leaves 20 percent (20 lines)  at 9 cent a line= $1.80. 


(get about a third of what you could get making no less than say 8.5/line) They want to dump the stuff into a computer to see how it reads it and you unscramble, need to put in the account specifics, it does not recognize beginning and ending of sentences correctly.  Ugh


Say you made at LEAST 8.5 a line somewhere for 200 lines= $17.00 and deserve more for sure,  One is reconstructing the ENTIRE report, could type it faster and it was exhausting (arms and shoulders, wrists, rwith all the extra key strokes to do it and of course not paid for this part.  Just an inexpensive way for them to unscramble the junk, insist on 98+ accuracy, so and so line count.  NOT ME .


 


Why can't you send the notes back by email
them in the hospital?  That's what I used to do.  Zipped and encrypted the files and they received and printed them at the hospital.

It is not a breech of privacy to send unencrpyted email...

the healthcare provider , i.e. the doc, establishes the standards for protecting privacy of records. You (or your service) is the Business Associate who COMPLIES with whatever standards the doctor sets. Some docs send files by email, some want encryption. Hospitals, obviously, generally do more locking down on their stuff, as they are more open to lawsuits. All YOU have to do to be HIPAA compliant is to COMPLY witih the standards the doc sets. It is not up to you to set them. Also what you and everyone else forgets about HIPAA is it is a two part process. Not only does the patient's medical records have to be disclosed BUT the patient must also suffer a loss because of the disclosure. So even if your doc stands out on the street and tells passers-by about Mrs. So and So and her athlete's foot, unless she incurs a loss from that, it's not a HIPAA violation. Remember this whole thing came about because a pharmacy tech went home and told her high school son that another classmate's father was coming in for HIV drugs...get the picture? Something private was disclosed inappropriately and that's how the girl found out her father was HIV positive.

I'll send out letters
I write letters all the time to different government bodies, politicians, school districts, you name it and I'll write. I think this is a wonderful idea. My letters and/or phone calls always get public attention in my area - I have even put in for a presidential pardon for a relative who is in the federal prison system. I've exposed a principal who was abusing special ed kids, problems with taxation in Texas, and many other issues. My motto is - if things aren't being done properly, you can always write a letter. My pen is poised over pad and paper......

detailing how disgusted you are with the fact that they are promoting offshore training and offshoring transcription.  This is the third article on this sort of topic that the magazine has done in a year. 


I find this particularly offensive because so many hospitals/medical record departments get the magazine and if they see this, then companies like Spheris, CBay, Healthscribe, and others will be getting called to come do their transcription!

Just curious.  Has anyone got a list of companies who do not send work offshore?  Precyse?  MQ?  Spheris?

Always asking for extra work.
Do you all get as tired as me when the QA people are constantly hawking the MTs to do extra work.  Every day its the same old thing - but they do it in a very passive aggressive "pretty" way.  I figure, if there's that much work constantly, hire more MTs.   I mean, how much can we stare into the screen!!

Extra work possibility

Just wanted to post something that might help those of you looking for work... while I realize this is a medical transcription board, with our work being outsourced more and more each day, we have to do what we have to do to earn a paycheck.


After talking with a police officer and hearing how many hours they spend doing written reports of calls/incidents, I mentioned that it was too bad they could not dictate their reports and have them transcribed.  He really liked the idea and so did I as I thought more about it.  I finally scheduled an appointment with the Chief of Police and made a proposal to him.  I had to do some research -- average pay per hour of a police officer x hours per day spent writing reports, etc, -- but that was not too difficult to get. 


To make a long story short -- he tried this with a couple of his officers on their lengthy and very detailed reports. 


Because it allows more time for actually being a police officer instead of being tied up writing illegible reports by hand, they love the idea. 


I submitted my bid, which was approved, and the contract was signed.  There is never a dull moment with this!

Demographics/extra work
How many of you are being asked to do more demographic work and other extras in your job that do not apply to your line count?  An email went out telling us that these areas "had to be filled in" because it caused too much work for the hospital if we didn't do it - but these demographics do not add to our line count - so I have a hard time understanding why we are to take 2-5 minutes in each report to do work that we are not paid for - for one report it doesn't seem like that much - but add it up to all that you do in a week - and well, that's a big pay decrease from where I stand.  How many of you are dealing with this problem.  It is probably not a new one - just new to me.
I would work extra if it is not asked of me
too often. Would you rather they hire extra help and then there may not be enough work to go around?

I need some ideas.  Fall is coming and I will have some extra time and getting burned out on MT.

When I worked for YOG, we got holiday pay and weekend differential.  I guess those days are gone.  Now, I'm just expected to work every holiday and every weekend and smile and say thanks for letting me be your slave.

I used to always work my shift and then try to do 2-3 early Sunday mornings.  I was stopped from doing that because we could not work more than 40 hours.  If there is help needed after my 40 hours I certainly do not mind helping out when needed - as long as this does not become abusive and you are expected to be available 10, 12 or more hours a day, night, and weekends.  I have been there and it just got out of hand.  I am comfortable with less than 50 hours a week.

the kids up massively as I type this. Totally off your subject but he just dropped on me that he is cutting all contact off from my dad since he recently remarried and intimated that he was leaving me and my brothers nothing in his will......DH also said the kids were not allowed to have any contact with him either.  I can get around that and just leave with the kids when he is at work if I have to resort to that.  But this is bullsh*t.....I fear if it keeps up I am headed for divorce court.  He is getting weirder and weirder about money, though he professes not to care or want it.  Then he dropped that when his dad (75) dies his mom (70) was moving in with us.......WHAT!  So right now I am hoping that his mom goes first as he will never live with his dad, or that his dad lives another 15 years at least....We had promised my mom she could live with us, but now that she is dead, he says it will be his mother as he has to protect his interests (and the kids....as supposedely all his parent's money is to go to them.....he plans not to touch it). So needless to say I am LIVID, don't want to work right now, am not talking to him though he keeps coming in and ranting more....he has calmed down some but still driving me nuts.  He has to stop drinking, that is what it comes down to....much more rational then.  But I really think the writing is on the wall and it's scary as I have no where to go now.

That way when the slow weeks come around (which they always do in this business), I can actually enjoy it instead of fretting about the money I'm losing.  For the last nine months I've been doing a little weekend account (maybe 120 minutes of dictation for a whole weekend) and stashing the money away and in October I'm treating my family to a week in Disneyworld. You gotta have some kind of reward to work for - otherwise you get discouraged and unmotivated.  But don't try making up the difference in one week, look longer term.

Now it's like zip, zero, nothing. No responses whatsoever from my emails to the companies here and on mtjobs.com.

At first I was looking for specifics regarding hospital work, clinic work, days, hours, etc., and choosing those but later got desperate and even with 16 years experience have been applying for 7-cent-a-line clinic jobs.... STILL no response from ANYONE! Well, actually, I get responses but they are automated emails stating I've passed the test(s) and will be contacted in X amount of days/weeks/months. Then I never hear back even with a followup email. In the past, I could get a new job within a week or two.

I don't know. I was thinking maybe they're thinking that with 16 years experience it would be easier to go with someone with less experience (for whatever reasons), so I'm considering just putting down 5 years or so as my experience instead of the truth. Could be they don't want to deal with this old dinosaur and want new blood, I don't know.
A co I used to work for would send me
hard copies of supposedly MY reports with errors. I would instantly know it wasn't my work, and would look at the MT ID # at the bottom of the report - NOPE, not mine. Naturally they were sending me the worst MT's reports, too, but I was fairly certain it was the person mailing them that was making the errors because my QA scores were very good.

they offshore to other countries from the usa because what's important to most dictators, and again unfortunately, is the cheapest price they will get for transcription......now, I didn't say they would receive good quality MT work back - but they will only be paying 3, 4 or 5 cpl for that offshore work.....so they have chosen to COMPROMISE QUALITY!!!!  Blechhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
