subscriptions.  I have a free trial right now and was worried I wouldn't have the whole $99 after my trial, but I can buy a subscription and save for another month!  That's so cool!  I didn't know they did that.  Didn't know if others knew, so thought I'd share. :)

Monthly fee
Is there a monthly fee when you use it through your phone?  I can use my phone but I have to set up internet service and its $60 a month.  I work at the inlaws cottage but they have high speed internet.
monthly earnings
I'm new to this board, just found it today, and have been *so* depressed with what I've been reading in regards to line counts and rates you all are being paid. I've been an IC for 15 plus years, transcribing for about 23 years now. I charge by gross lines, 12 cents a line, max 70 characters possible on a line. I make okay money, averaging between $3000 and $4000 a month, with three good dictators, and I live on the West Coast. I could easily make more if I turned off the TV when transcribing and didn't take time off to be at the kids' sporting events. Before I got married, I easily made $55-60K a year, before expenses, but taxes killed me  so I backed off a bit. (This was before the elaborate Expander programs.) Ladies, the money is out there. You just have to find the right accounts!!
Monthly fees
May I ask which carrier this is through?  I have ATT and to use my laptop I can hook it up through my phone with a USB cable but in order to get on the internet I would have to buy the data package for $59.99 a month. Thanks, we do a lot of traveling in the summer.
I make 7.5 CPL and earn over $4K monthly
Maybe to you that's not a decent wage, or maybe you're not as fast. I don't know. But this IS production-based work. So type more and earn more. I think I clear about 14,000 lines in a 40-hour work week and I bring TAKE HOME about $4K a month. To ME that's good money. Maybe I'm stupid. I know people that earn much more (are much faster than I) at 7.5 CPL. Call me dumb, but I think that's good take home.
Jennifer, recognized your name from MT Monthly
I enjoyed the publication and have referred several MTs your way for ROS through the years. Hope all is well with you.
Try the FDA website. Updated monthly.

I used to call it Monthly Martha or
Nasty Nancy. Anyway, I can't help you on that. I had a hysterectomy and plenty of those awful hot flashes. I would just be sitting there and whoosh, I felt like I was in a sauna and had to go outside no matter where I was. I would just seem to get severely claustrophobic and have to leave for 10 minutes, then I was fine. It does get better.
Monthly Prescribing Reference SM
http://www.prescribingreference.com/
Monthly audits = QA score. sm
Usually companies audit your work monthly. They will pull 5 or 10 reports you have transcribed and do a random QA check on them. If you have critical errors, they will deduct whole points, noncritical errors usually a half point.

If you total QA score is below 98% three or more times in a row, some companies will do what they can to help you, put you back on QA review for a while so every report will go to QA. Other companies may just fire you or let you go.

Is this the answer your were looking for?

Does anyone have the website for Monthly Prescribing Reference? Thanks. nm

Were you thinking of MT Monthly.....see link inside

The Monthly Emesis is clever! :) no message

I do all my standard maintenance religiously at least monthly. sm
Thinks like Diskclean and Defrag.  Keeping all those temporary Intervet files off your computer makes a huge difference in performance.  I have McAfee because it comes with my Comcast service.  Used to have Norton -- hated it because it made my computer do all sorts of weird things, and then had a he!! of a time trying to uninstall it.  I have an MQ computer that I have had for over 3 years and a couple of months ago it started running really slow, no matter what I did to it.  So I called tech, support thinking maybe I needed a new one, and they suggested a free antispyware called Superantispyware, so I downloaded it and run it regularly and it has made a marked improvement.
Okay - to make it simple, what's your monthly takehome pay?
Mine is $1600/month. Assuming I worked 5 days a week (which I dont... I work 6 to 6-1/2), and 8 hours a day (I dont - I work 10-12), it would be $10 an hour. Where in this country is that a good wage? Working my average week, and my average hours per day, this further drops to about $6/hour. (Again, we're talking take-home, not gross.) I don't base anything on gross pay because I never see a large chunk of it. Part goes for Social Security which I'm sure I'll never receive. Part goes for healthcare, which is often denied and I end up paying out of pocket anyway. Part goes for state & federal taxes. My state is already issuing IOUs, not refunds, and last year they gypped me out of what should've been a $300 refund. The feds? Forget it. Let's not even go there.

So unless you live in some wonderful Utopian town where gas is 20 cents/gal., Cheerios are 85 cents/box, and rent is about $150/month, then spare me the lecture about how far a crappy 8 cpl will go, or even a crappy 9 or 10 cpl.

Oh, and by the way? I aint no 'newbie'. Try 34 years.
Just making sure--$60/mo + monthly phone bill? sm

Talk about perfect timing!  I told my bro last night about connecting via his cell phone.  (Found that info here by searching the archives.)  Anyway, he also uses AT&T.  So that is $60 plus his regular phone bill, correct?  TIA!

I also like to use online references, which by the way I invest in by paying my monthly fee
for high-speed internet service. Why knock someone's way of doing something just because it isn't your way? I personally find it much quicker to find something online than to finger through a bunch of books, which by the way are outdated quicker than you can get them delivered.
Sounds like where I used to work- PHNS- 5% of our total MONTHLY - sm
work was our limit to QA. You'd get your butt chewed off if you went over that....and this was 80% hard ESL too. Totally unrealistic. They did not penalize you though, but that was a while ago too, now, who knows, wouldn't put it past them.
Oh..it's way possible. I've averaged $7000 monthly for the last 5 months sm
I have four accounts and work probably 60 hours a week, but have most weekends off, sometimes I'll work a few hours on Saturday morning or Sunday evening. It can be done, but it isn't easy.
Isnt there a transcription paper/magazine that comes out monthly??
I remember years ago when I was working at a transcription agency that there was a monthly subscription of a magazine/newspaper-type that came out monthly that I read.  It was always sitting around.  I cant remember the name of it.  Can anyone tell me the name of this??  And do they still publish it monthly?  Thanks!
SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program. Shorthand is lots cheaper and also has a trial.
.
QA, 2750/monthly, salaried, excellent benefits-no complaints here.
Was a long time coming though.
My cost of living expenses monthly is $2200/month
I'm self employed, so I'm killed in taxes AND I live in NY...but I wouldn't have it any other way

I LOVE NEW YORK!!!!
{@KEY BkSp}-pack-per-year is for Shorthand. Using the semicolon works with both Shorthand and

;yo = -year-old

;py= -pack-year

etc...

Shorthand and SpeedType are exact same program. Shorthand will cost you lots less.
you can import your autocorrect into Shorthand.
The Latest Word was a waste. Stedman's might have monthly updates on their site, not sure. nm
s
I took shorthand too. But it sure comes in helpful for my expanders. I view words in shorthand for
i did use shorthand once in a job but i was so nervous the "boss" took pity and dictated the report on dictaphone.
Yes, yes and yes!!! I had so many offers...

after I graduated that I was shocked!  The standard 2-year experience requirement was waived by every company I contacted.

Yes, M-Tec is totally a self-paced, self-study program, but there is also incredible 1-on-1 instructor support.  The program is very comprehensive and definitely not easy but well worth every penny!

If you want a career as an MT, you can't go wrong with M-TEC.

CPL offers
are usually set in motion by what the MTSO is receiving in pay from the facility. As a small MTSO, I am very much restricted by what the facilities are willing to pay me as a vendor. It is an unfortunate circumstance, but it is a sign of the times. There are MTs willing to the work for 8 CPL, and if not, the Nationals outsource it overseas. I think that sums it up in a nutshell....It is a shame, but it is where the industry has gone of late. EMR, VR and outsourcing cutting into what a MTSO can get from the facilities for line rates. Sad but true....I hope you find what you're looking for.
I am not a CMT and I get job offers all of the
much unless you like having initials after your name.  It is not like you can put it on your reports.  XXX/xxx, CMT - can you?  So no one but the company you work for (who probably doesn't care) and you will know... nobody else.  Most CMTs complain they aren't compensated enough anyway, so who gives a hoot?  The only benefit I see is having initials after your name, which unless you are in this field, who knows what that means?  Sounds important, but to have to pay hundreds to test and then to fail only to have to pay hundreds to take it again?????  I'd think that one over and over and over and over... JMO.  A penny more a line???  Just seek out your own account and you'll make lots of extra pennies per line...  believe me!
If it is Shorthand, save the SPF file to a disk, then if you buy Shorthand yourself....
you can just drop the SPF file into it. That is not dishonest since you are the one who put the macros in. I am sure is it is another Expander there is a way to save the macro file and then drop it in the expander you buy on your own.
It is only because no one offers that anymore
nm
I don't think anyone offers PT MTs benefits - sm
at least I have NEVER heard of any. I don't think I have ever even heard of any PT job that had benefits. All you can do is start making phone calls to said companies and ask them. Good luck.
Just because someone offers their opinion,...
and it differs from another's, does not make it negative.  You didn't hear what you wanted to hear in my responses, but that does not mean I am being negative toward you.  I just think you need to do your own work.  Asking for help is one thing, and asking for a handout is entirely different.
You may not need all that MPWord offers.

I've looked at MP Word several times myself and it just more than I need, although in a different setting/situation, I may need all the options. If you have a choice and you have MS Word available to you, you will be fine. You should have an encryption method available to you; WinZip offers encryption with it's Pro version, about $50.

Just something else for you to consider.

When you take on too much work. Getting 2 PT job offers plus have FT with national (sm)

Two local doctors offering me 2-3 hours per day each, plus the FT (about 6 actual hours of typing a day) with a national.

One doctor is orthopedic, the other vascular surgeon (H&Ps in office).  One is a mumbler, the other has a lisp.  The national job is radiology (fairly easy - would be faster if I could master IT, though).

What should I do?  Am afraid I will take on more than I can handle and at same time, refuse a job that I later will regret.  I need the money, needless to say.  Anyone ever face this?

I wonder if the state where you live offers
In Georgia they do have this, and a person who is convicted of a felony and completes the sentence requirements then has their rights restored, such as voting and the ability to officially answer "No" when asked about a felony conviction. Supposedly the information would not be available to a potential employer and most others, though I believe some are still privy to the information.
Does anyone know if IT offers a trial period? sm

From the comments on this post and the post I placed yesterday, I am convinced I would like to try IT.  I hate to spend $189 though and not like it but I do not see on their web site where they offer a money back trial period.  Also, do you know if you download it and have it immediately or if it comes in the mail? Thanks to all who have offered their opinions, it really helps!

Whoa, are you blessed! You see offers out here for 6-8 cpl
s
Only do Free offers - no cc needed!
Take a look at my blog again - even in free offers they are trying to sell you something, you simply say "No Thank you". Also, I included a couple of links that are how-to guides. E-mail me if you need more help or visit the forum. Best wishes!
For Iowa their 12 cpl is good. IHP usually offers...
11 cpl to contractors. If you're from Iowa IHP should be one you recognize, their statewide.

The local service in Waterloo, pays their MTs 6 cpl, ridiculous. Hospitals paying hourly are still around $9 hourly.

It's the midwest, for those others who don't know but cost of living is nothing near other areas of the country.

Personally, I work for a national on the east coast and make 10 cpl employee status, far better than anything I've seen in my home state.
Have 2 job offers, one pays 9 cents per 65...sm
character line and the other 11 cents per 85 character line.  I am not sure how to figure the difference so am not sure which might be the better offer line rate wise.  I would SO appreciate some help!
MQ offers PT employees benefits
You have to work 24 hours a week to be eligible.  I don't carry the insurance, so I don't know much else about it, but I'm sure if you read through the MQ board, someone on there will mention it and you can email them.
2 separate companies/offers

Medgarde offers PT and just noticed that they ask if you own Lanier.
nm
Obviously, she can or the offers wouldn't be coming out of the woodwork.
I've been turning down offers lately, too.
The place I work already offers 800 numbers for all
inside accounts and most outside accounts as well. Not all are not good to the MTs.
U.S. offers them medical school at a discount
if they remain in the country and practice in out of the way places for a period of time before returning to their country or to a higher wage earning position within the medical establishment.
Have you seen: Internship offers 3cpl on Job Seekers Bd?
Even as an intern, that should be considered criminal. I don't understand what some companies are thinking when they do that sort of thing.

Just a thought.
Bytescribe offers a 14-day trial (DocShuttle).
xx
Stedman's offers 1/4ly now? Didn't know that. Love it anyway! nm
