This is just a sarcastic guess, but I'm assuming by the line - sm

Posted By: mt2tired on 2005-12-01
In Reply to: Does anyone know if Indian MTs are paid by the line or by the hour? sm - Y

why else would there be so many mistakes. If they were paid by the hour, maybe they would spend more time on getting to know the ENGLISH language. I actually had a report come back from India where instead of the word "children" it said "litter."

8 cpl was an example, not my line rate; however, my guess
would be the overall charge to the client to cover overhead, etc, would vary, depending on the size of the companies (both service and client), the state/region the client is in, degree of difficulty, platforms, quantity/quality of dictators, turnaround time, how the work is to be transferred, possible retainders, competition...

I have no idea, I'm the LAST guy to get paid.

I guess the bottom line is
can I make a decent living doing mostly VR at 4 cpl?
I don't know how to off-line instant messenger....guess I'm
tooo stupid. WOW, thanks for clearing that up! Have a great day!!!!
I would guess with that high of a line count

that it has less to do with her Expander and more to do with a really good combination of doctors.  Sounds like you are doing great with 350 lines an hour -- an expander will probably push you up to 400 to 450. I wouldn't expect it to double.

I guess so! I betcha make your new line count!! NM
.
I guess the bottom line is any one of us would go back to in-house... SM

given the chance.  I re-read my previous post to you and I sounded like a b*tch and I wanted to apologize.  You sound like a very positive person who takes criticism and not so pleasant advice very diplomatically.

If your problems with your boss are more of a personal nature, rather than the quality or quantity of your work, I would maybe go over her head.  You already have an adversarial relationship with her anyway, so why not get it on record that you feel she is treating you unfairly?  Or maybe confront her yourself?  I would probably do the latter.  I'm not someone that can bite my tongue which probably explains why I work by myself at a computer all day rather than in customer service!

Just an FYI, I actually am starting an in-house MT job at a hospital tomorrow!  I've decided that if they try to lay me off in favor of outsourcing, I'm just going to refuse.  I'm going say "nope, I'm sorry, I refuse to be laid off.  I'm going to get back to work now."  I wonder what they would do?

Just got a check for a supposed miscalculation of line on DQS for the last 2 years. Guess they
figure they werent going to win that lawsuit. Wonder what else they are going to do. They reduce ASR, they load the accounts with tons of MTs and we need either tons of backups or just a few and then have no work, what next.
First, I was being a bit sarcastic ...
Second, while I think a union that is in full force today would make an impact in the problems the industry is facing, I don't think a new fledgling union start would change much for the better now.

Just my opinion.
What? Are you being sarcastic?
Honestly I feel sorry for some of the children of the people on this board. Can you give compliments to them, or is everything they do bashed too if not up to your standards or your opinion of what everyone's standards should be. Of course not, your kids could be living in the street and you'd be on here posting how wonderful they are. If these are grown women posting, they should be ashamed of themselves! Patti's house is beautiful, maybe not for everyone, but if she loves it that is ALL that really matters. The rest of you sound like you live in a trailer park.
Where did I say they were being sarcastic?
I did not. YOU are the one assuming now. I have editing experience, I have transcription experience and I have supervisory experience. I just don't have editing and supervisory experience in the medical transcription field. Thus, the "break into" comment. I didn't feel the need to go into specific details about my background and college education. But thanks for all the help. If you can't answer the question and provide anything positive to the conversation, why post at all? Just to be snarky and accusatory?
No not me....I was being sarcastic...
I was on your side. Mean that poster was the one stirring.
Are you just being sarcastic?
It's sort of hard to tell for sure.

If not, they would need her Soc# for government help, so I would think they would know she is working.

I would say, check out what your state offers and do what you have to do (quit if you must), but I do think it is very odd that you have been trying for a child when you are so hard up financially ... and even more odd that you didn't have a plan in mind as to how to deal with the health care.

I think we would all really like to hear your thinking on that part.
I was just being sarcastic! :D sm
Because they should NOT depend on us to automatically know how to spell anything right, not even "aspirin". If the doctor is going to spell out a word, he should spell it correctly or not at all. JMO.
GEt a clue I was being sarcastic, duh

And of course, I'm the "little" Hispanic girl - dumbass!

It is rude to be sarcastic.
x
I, of course, was being highly sarcastic.
Wow. No sense of humor? Seems this place can do that to some.

Cheers, luv, cheers.
Don't you think people know that? Stop being sarcastic!
.
Yes, but the sarcastic exclamation points were unnecessary

mean, sarcastic manager and QA cousin at meditec

The internship is fine, don't look to get rich though. Purely training. Good way to get your foot in the door.  The reason why you may want to stay away is because of the manager and her cousin who is in editing. Mean, sarcastic people! That is how they treated me anyway.

Well, you know what they say about *assuming*. sm
If the OP had wanted to know those things, she should have asked. the first few other posters did not include all that stuff either and you are just picking on ME. I was not trying to *mislead* anyone and posted later on about the specifics. but now you answer a question of mine...how are YOUR gross lines coming??? or can I assume you haven't done it yet? lol. I am not going to argue with you after this post. You always seem to be stirring things up for every body that posts something you disagree with. and you always *assume* to be right, even though you are not. Your opinion does not matter to me, nor does anyone elses. I posted the truth and you did not like it so you had to start trouble. so I am ending it. drop the subject. move on. find someone else to pick an argument with. I am assuming you are not happy unless you are arguing about something anyway, so find someone else to do it with. I won't waste my time on you. go count your gross lines.
Assuming once again
Actually, I have requested information from AAMT, CareerStep, my local community college, and a couple of other places. I'm on this board to talk to actual people who do this job - not those who are out to sell something to me and claim they are the end-all beat-all for information on it.

I wasn't belittling anyone. If me stating "I wasn't looking to change careers, just make some extra cash, what are your experiences in this field" makes you feel belittled you may want to get some help with your self esteem. My goodness.

Yes, I know how forums work. Of course not everyone on here may actually be whom they claim to be, but it would at least give me a general idea of the field and what to expect. Trust me, I will NOT be going into this field. I think my general view is y'all are nuts!
I am assuming there are kiddies, so (sm)
our faves are Nemo, Shrek, Toy STory 1 and 2.  For adults though, just saw Sideways and it's pretty good, but NOT for children.  Have fun! Sounds like a great idea! Can I come?
assuming eye drops
Teargen
I'M ASSUMING NOTHING NEW OR SHE WOULD HAVE INFORMED US
Maybe no changes for SE
And you are assuming I am a liar when you don't know

x

I'm assuming you are in Illinois?? No?? (nm)
x
But you are assuming I never made any
money and that, my dear, has never been the case. I don’t work with you, now days no one works with others in this field. I do not have to like the ESLs dictation. I don’t care to visit India because I frankly am tired of constantly having to transcribe. Glad you are working at home doing what you like, being by yourself.
Assuming it's XP or older
Hit the Windows logo button, go into control panel, and from there click on appearance/themes. Go to choose a screen saver. From that window, the bottom half has the power saver options; I believe it says monitor options, but it will also include the options for your hard drives. In there, you can find the choices as to whether or when to shut down the hard drive, hibernate, time to turn on the screen saver, etc. Vista is probably similar steps, but I'm not sure how exactly you get to the screen saver page.

Hope that helps!
Thanks! I'm assuming that was a typo, you
meant *hook up to both MONITORS* I hope....

But thanks for giving me a starting point....I'm gonna ask about that switch the Best Buy near my house...

Thanks again!
I'm assuming you installed the software that came with?
If so, and don't laugh, did you try rebooting? I always do that first before I worry about any computer issues. If it doesn't take care of it then go back and make sure you followed the installation steps exactly. Is it the Mircrosoft Natural Ergonomic 4000? I have that and it's great...only thing I could complain about is it's rather wide, so when I do need to use my mouse, my arm has to reach a little farther, which isn't good ergonomically, but I do everything I can to avoid using the mouse anyway...oops, I digress! Good luck with your keyboard!
The advice to Google is assuming SM
that the MT in question has half a brain and can discern what is a reputable link and what isn't. Or are you saying we shouldn't assume even that much?
I know! And did you see the way she jumped down my throat assuming that I was talking about HER!
Talk about soapbox. But I do agree with you
You're assuming she doesn't want more children. nm

Assuming you are talking about wireless internet. nm
nm.
I was on it for a long time - it's generall OK, assuming it's
@
That is assuming they could even understand the dictation to begin with.
I would love to see the doctors having to listen to dictation.
Why? It sounds like you're assuming the generated reports contain...sm
incorrect or fabricated information. Such would not be the case in these situations.
I am assuming you are talking about Sheri. What answers of hers are not lining up?
What info do you have that I do not or others? Never heard of you either, American regular MTstarser??? Strange posted by if you ask me.
Assuming your existing documents are based on the Normal template...
You can open the Normal template, make the changes you mention, and then save it. When you open your existing documents, they will be corrected. Hope this is the info you're looking for.
A gross line is anything on a line is a line. A line set at 65 characters means it sm
has 1-inch margins on each side. The maximum number of characters on that line would be 65 and that includes spaces. If there is 1 character on that line it is a line.

A standard 65-character line usually consists of 65 characters with spaces unless, of course, the employer does not pay for spaces and then it would be 65-characters without spaces.
Anything on the line makes up a line even if just one letter or number. Every line of print is a
s
Gross line = each line on page counts as a line, even if it's only 1 word. nm
x
Gross line means anything on a line is counted as a line.

You can get an idea in the difference using documents you have already created, assuming you're working in Word. Simply open a document and check the properties. Click on the statistics tab and you will see the number of lines as well as characters with and without spaces. If you're currently getting paid by the line and a line is 65-characters with spaces, do the math and see how that number of lines compares with the number of lines in your stats.

One thing to keep in mind: if you have a blank line between paragraphs, instead of hitting the enter key twice, format your document to give the appearance of blank lines between paragraphs.

If it's different for each report, my guess (only a guess)
would be no. I think the macro would work if it was the same each time, but not sure if it will if the documents are different each time.
Gross line, also including blank lines because my line rate is so low. It all works out in the wash.
x
$.06 gross line / .70 = approximately $.0857 cents per 65 character line.

A gross line is anything on a line versus 65 gross characters per net line the other way.  You make more money working for the gross line than for the 65 gross character line, as long as the line rate's OK.

A gross line is any line with typewritten characters on it - no matter how long or SM
how short.  So your gross lines may be longer than 65 characters, but you get credit even for a line as short as "Sincerely,".  If your gross lines are not being counted that way, then you are not being counted on gross lines and are probably getting screwed.  I'd look into that if I were you.
Yes if gross line or 65 character line with spaces....Good Deal!!! nm

1) do you have a contract stating line counting and line rate,sm
if you look at the IRS website it's pretty clear what constitutes IC versus SE versus employee. You might want to photocopy that along with a copy of your contract with your next invoice and also put on the invoice any monies due from past invoices they "changed"...maybe catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Good luck!
New England, 16.50/hr, 8 cents a line after minimum line count..
full benefits available with general contribution by the hospital before you start paying for them, retirement, 403b, all benefits, and working at home as an employee, BUT, you have to live local to the hospital.
I changed my line to a business line, talked to a supervisor sm

at SBC, told him what I was using the service for, and got the okay to use it -- $49/month unlimited.

I have also used The Neighborhood, and their unlimited is truly unlimited.  I also explained to them when I signed up what I was using it for and their comment was "unlimited means just that -- unlimited, no matter what."  I cannot remember how much they were, but it might be worth checking into for you.  (www.theneighborhood.com)

Good luck!
