So what's for dinner tonight? I need suggestions.
I have melons cut up and an Italian pasta salad.  What to go with it?
My hubby does 3rd shift. Some suggestions

I don't know about your situation, but my husband has learned to go to bed when he's done with work. He'll probably read the morning paper and have something to eat like a hamburger or leftover spaghetti.  Remember that breakfast is supper and supper is breakfast when you work 3rd shift. He has cereal when he gets up in the afternoon.

He used to stay up for 3 or 4 hours,  like he did when he got home from a day job (like we all do if we work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).  He has learned that "sleep time" is essential when he is done his shift and when the kids are off at school.  He's usually up when they get home at 3:00, but sometimes he gets up at noon or he sleeps until 5:00.  He's learned to let his body tell him how much sleep he needs.

If he does stay up, he will nap for a few hours.  Sometimes he even naps from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. before he goes in to work.  It works for him.  He's been doing it for almost 7 years and wouldn't trade if for the day shift.

The bedroom has blinds that will make the room very dark to keep out the light. He has one advantage though.  He's deaf without his hearing aids.  When he wants to sleep he takes them out. That way there is no "hush, daddy is trying to sleep."

Good luck.  I was thinking about doing 3rd shift myself until I realized that the reason my husband and I get along so good is because we work opposite shifts!

Pot roast tonight but will need suggestions for leftovers tomorrow.
:+
1st night on 3rd shift and still
but i started at 11 p.m., and notice that my line count for first hour was credited to yesterdays work.  so -- is this just a fact of life for 3rd shifters?
night shift
My life currently revolves around babysitting my 15 month old grandson all day, somedays he arrives at 5:30 a.m., others it is 7:00 a.m. stays with me anywhere until 2:00 to 5:00 pm. (his mom is in nursing school with somewhat irregular hours depending on her clinical days). I get on and transcribe from 7:00 p.m. until midnight or sometimes 1:00 a.m. five days a week. I absolutely force myself to take a one hour nap before my shift starts(never more than 1 hour). It helps so much. At first it was hard to do, but it really does help me stay awake and now it is almost natural to do it. Darken the room and keep away from the TV, unplug the phone. Of course, I can't live without caffeine either. Good luck with you new job/new shift
Night Shift
I have a 3 year old and I work late hours, but they seem to work for me. I work for a few hours in the a.m. and then I go back to work after she goes to sleep and work until about 4:00 a.m. I take Friday nights off. I've been doing this for so long it's second nature. I usually sleep from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays my husband lets me sleep in. I also have a soon to be 13 year old and she's very helpful on weekend mornings. Once she goes to pre-school I'll change my work hours.
working night shift.

I recently read an ad about a company hiring MT and giving a sign on bonus to work the graveyard shift.  I thought about applying.  I did a few graveyard shifts when I was a nurse’s aide though they were not consistent, just here and there.  It was rough, but it was easier for me to recover because I did not have kids back then nor the responsibilities I have now.

If I did it consistently, is it easy to adjust? How do you adjust?  Do you have to drink a lot of coffee? lol.   Is there usually more work available at night then say M-F, 8 to 5.

TIA

Is tonight the night the Sober worm strikes? sm
Aside from updating virus definitions, is there anything else we can do to secure our computers?  Thanks!
Everyone gets a night to pick what they want and tonight it is breakfast. Nmsg

I would blame it on too many years of night shift, but I have done it

Any suggestions for noise at night?

My 1-1/2 year old's crib is in my room (and there's no getting around that), and I need something to drown sounds out.  If I move, she wakes up, and if she moves, I wake up.  During the summer, we use a fan, which works great, but definitely can't in the fall/winter.  I've tried light music, and that's not enough.  I've even got a small heater, which doesn't quite do the trick.  Anybody have any suggestions?  I was thinking about a fountain or something, but figured I'd be up in the bathroom every 5 minutes :)

Thanks!

I work Tuesday through Saturday on the night shift. sm
I really like the off shifts when no one else wants to work. I get a lot of work at those times, and I don't mind being out having fun when everyone else is at work.
Me, too. I expect to be paid overtime and night shift for that! nm

I love the night shift! No interruptions and more work on the system.
I agree with poster below - Power NAPs! I am a napper, need my nap about 30 minutes to 1 hour, before my shift and a pot of coffee sometimes 2 gets me through!
Work Tuesday through Sunday morning on night shift. nm

Been at home for over a year now and I switched to night shift. I work for a national. Started out
working the night shift and sleeping in shifts during the day. My kids are way older but that doesn't mean they don't interrupt me. Besides, there the phone issue, more interruptions, the dogs bothered me a lot, too. Love them dearly but, oh so spoiled. It was taking me 10 hours to do what I can do in 8 on nights, plus I manage to get more sleep, if you can believe that. I still get supper on the table, vacuum, laundry, etc. So far it is working pretty good, so I think I will put in for permanent night hours for awhile. No sense in working 10 when I can work 8.
Delete your voice files at the end of your shift or before you start work again. No

I saw HOWIE last night on a late night episode of Blind Date. too funny.
I'm thinking if they are smart they'll boot Rachel.  I think she's really smart and a good player.  I don't think Howie is all that smart or able to be a winner.  I think this could force Howie to hook up with James to go for the final 2.
It's taco night! (again.....) We had taco pizza last night, southwestern chicken soup before th
Maybe I'll just have a salad.

Well then, don't start at the beginning, start in

No, just trying it tonight. sm
Hope it goes okay, I have never tried it.  It was on a special about Elvis' favorite foods.  I read the reviews and they said the cake was very rich.
I think Ace is gone tonight
Taylor was WONDERFUL last night! I really enjoyed his performance. I was not thrilled with Katherine or Paris. I thought Bucky, Kelly, and Elliot did really well. I did not like Chris' song last night, but not sure if it was just the song I didn't like or the way he did it. So, all in all I would have to say that the bottom three will be Ace, Paris, and Katherine. Ace will be the one leaving in my opinion.
What's for supper tonight? nm

Ladies, what is on for din din tonight?????

beef tenderloin, mushroom gravy, noodles, salad and some fruit.  Then, a whole pot coffee while I work.

What's for dinner tonight?
I'm going to make three types of maki-sushi and wontons because I have salmon, shrimp and tun in there to use up.  I just love messing with the little bamboo sushi mat.  It's so cute!  LOL
dinner tonight
With fresh tomatoes and peppers abounding in this area, I have made some salsa and we are having chicken burritos with fresh salsa and fresh peaches.  Not much work and lots of good eating.
What's for dinner tonight?
Leftovers here.  I am not cooking.  I've got homemade cheeseburger pizza, chipotle grilled chicken, biscuits and sausage gravy, tacos, soup, sandwiches and salad that need to be eaten up.
Prayers will be said tonight!

Did you see the news tonight?

Hundreds of children were killed, thousands and thousands have died in total they say. I am the mother of three children and watching those pictures on TV of those little lives lost is very disturbing, extremely saddening, and is a very emotional thing to watch or to try to even understand the magnitude of such losses for everyone involved or to make any sense of it all.

If you, by reading my post, misunderstood my post, I wholeheartedly appologize. It was not my intention to have a "hidden agenda" in my post. It was merely a question.

Dinner tonight
Meat loaf, mashed potatoes and brown gravy, creamed corn, broccoli/cauliflower salad and Kentucky Derby Pie for dessert.  I love to cook.

So what's for dinner tonight? SM

I was privileged to be a guest at the first night of Hanukkah last year, and we had latkes and doughnuts, it was all about the oil.

For the life of me I can't remember what we had the second night.

I was in the Bay Area of SF and I'll swear all I did was eat the whole time I was there. And it was all wonderful. My friend is the best cook I've ever seen.

I'm going to go tonight just because of your post.
I certainly could use a few good laughs.
tonight's dinner
Spaghetti with Italian sausages, garlic bread, and nice fresh, big green salad! Jello with fruit for desert.
What's for supper tonight?
Can't decide what to have.
What's for Dinner Tonight?

We are having pasta with steamed veggies and parmesan cheese, salad, garlic bread.  Vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries for dessert.  MMMMM

24 was awesome tonight except
I can't believe Tony is dead. What a bummer. First Michelle, then Edgar and now Tony. I wonder who will be next!!!!
So... What's for Dinner Tonight?

what's for dinner tonight?
sick of cooking same old things
Who do you think will be leaving tonight?
I think Kevin.
Elliot all the way tonight!

Tonight will probably be Paris
Dial Idol has Paris as the lowest with Kellie a close second.  For the margin of error, it could be either one of them but since Kellie has Vote for The Worst on her side, I think tonight will be Paris.  I was kind of embarassed by Katherine's dress. I was actually working while the show was on, and I looked up while she was singing and thought to myself "put those boobies away," lol.  I think she has a good voice, but she is playing the sexy bod card as much as Kellie is playing the dumb blonde card, although Katherine is a much better singer than Kellie.  I had tears when Elliott was singing last night.  My favorite is always Taylor, although I was disappointed in his song choice last night, and think he could have picked something better to have another magical night like last week.  Elliott was the best of the night and might have done better with the judges if he hadn't taken David Foster's advice on the arrangement of the song.  I think Chris is okay, but I just can't connect emotionally with him. He's never brought me chills or to tears or made me laugh or smile like Taylor has, or like Elliott did last night.  I think the bottom 2 tonight will be Paris and Kellie, with Paris leaving as she just doesn't have the fan base.
Thanks for all the help tonight.! I'm a different Susan

AI - Who is going home tonight?

I think Paris tonight.

Tonight's vote...

LET'S ALL MAKE SURE "KAT"ERINE DOES NOT WIN...VOTE FOR TAYLOR...EVEN IFYOU DON'T CARE FOR HIM, STILL VOTE FOR HIM.

I've liked Taylor from the beginning, although as I stated earlier, this whole season has been a bit of a disappointment.

 VOTE FOR TAYLOR!!!

Tonight show
I think Taylor is going to be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight.  I just LOVE him!
What's for dinner tonight?
I'm hungry !
We're having that tonight
That sounds so good. I'm off to to grocery store, so I will pick up these things and give 'er a try. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I get so tired of the same things each week, and I use turkey meat in everything now, so this is right up my alley.
