Filezilla is the software used to transfer files to an FTP server where the files "reside".

Download Express Scribe, it's free, when you download the voice files you will listen to....
them in Express Scribe and you can set your footpedal up. I forget where the downloaded files go, can't remember if you can put them where you want them but I would have to search for them to download to Express Scribe - maybe someone else can tell you how. It is much better than what you are doing.
Download FTP SERVER software (it can be found free). Then have the docs
upload their files to YOUR server. There is no cost to you or the doc to do this. Someone does have to pay for the recorder, which I have chosen to do for 2 docs. The other one purchases his own when needed (twice in 7 years). One picks up files on FTP server. The other 2 still want theirs printed. Since they are not in same city, I mail them via snail mail and they are happy with that. I also do fax any stat reports to them at no charge simply because I have unlimited long distance.
Deleting files from FTP server

The company I work for uses an FTP server.  I am supposed to delete the files I pull after I upload them so another MT wont do them.  No matter what I try I cannot get the files to delete. When I right click on them, there is no option to delete in the drop-down.  I have also tried highlighting the file(s) and pressing delete on my computer.  Neither one of these works.  These are the 2 ways my QA said to do it, but it just wont work.  Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

I think you can dial into most systems that require C-phone without having a C-phone nm

Dial in dictation
Hey everyone. We need some SERIOUS guidance here. We've recently obtained a local clinic with 3 drs. They have been doing dial in dictation for the past 4 years and they want to continue with that. We have been researching to see what all we need. We are not sure if we should go with a TASP or just get an 800# line of our own and then get the appropriate software? We've also seen the dial in dication systems as well. So many companies offer the dial in dication but we have no idea what we need or how it all works. We really are needing some expert advice here. We aren't looking to take anyone's accounts, we have our own but we need to integrate to what they have. The office manager really doesn't know what the old company used other than dialing it. Can anyone please just give us some friendly advice and direction as to what all we need? We would greatly appreciate it as this is making us brain dead.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give! :
Dial-In Dictation Suggestions

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best, cheapest method of providing toll free dial-in dictation for physicians?

I need from 1-3 simultaneous lines for physicians to dial in and dictate, recorded digitally (not on tapes).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

where did you download the files too. Look for wherever
they are, desktop, my documents, etc.    Not sure what program you are using to try to get them to play, but you can download ExpressScribe free (google for URL) and then pull up reports out of where ever they are.
I use DVI and I download digital files via FTP

and then transcribe using a foot pedal connected to my computer.  There is also a transcribe station similar to a C-phone that can be used to access the system directly.

Ask the company what equipment you'll use and then if they don't answer your questions google DVI.

Once you get the files say into your email, download them sm
to a specific folder. open your express scribe, click on the load button and find those files and highlight them to load the batch. once finished with one file, hit the done button and continue to the next. the same would be done with the FTP, transfer the files into a specific folder, load them, type them, click done.
Yes, you can dial in using your C-phone (sm)

just like a regular phone line.  Check out the AT&T CallVantage or Vonage website to make sure there is service in your area.  Do you have any techie/IT friends or family?  Ask them to explain VOIP to you, too.  Seriously, I think it helps to actually hear the explanation in person; at least it did for me   Then ask them if they want to install the VOIP box and set if up for you after you order it.     I'm technically inclined, and my techie hubby and tell me it was a fairly easy installation, but it took me a bit to grasp the concept.  But the non-hassle (no more ULD headaches) and saved $$$ have been well worth it!

One suggestion - keep another phone line with ULD handy to which you can plug in your C-phone in the event that your Internet goes down, as 0 Internet = 0 VOIP.

I don't use a C-phone but I dial into my account
using a Lanier system, so I dial right from the Lanier unit. Can I use VOIP with that? Will that work? So if I got the AT&T VOIP service, it's ULD and you get no hassle? Thanks again. I really don't know much at all about VOIP and how it works.
Download Ccleaner. It will clean out your unnecessary files.
I used every day, works great!
I have her on my quick dial on my cell phone
but I wouldn't share it without permission.  She is Editor of one of Elsevier's MT publications so visit their web site and you may be able to find an email address for her.  She still frequents another MT web site and you could put out an SOS call for her there.  Good luck.
so, you have dial up for internet? plugged into your phone line.
and your foot pedal has a phone line plug too? Thats odd, cuz normally it would be a USB plug. but yes, you can by an outlet to install, i had to do the same thing a long time ago on a different computer. it was called something like an eathernet adapter....you should be able to take the foot pedal to radio shack adn they will give you exactly what you need.
Call United way. Dial 2-1-1 from a landline phone
or you can Google united way '_________'. fill in the blank with the name of your city. You can search their database online as well. There is help out there for you.
C-phone help! Dial tone ok, but keys will not work.

There is a dial-tone when handset is lifted.  Keys do not work to program, dial, ect.  This is the same for 2 different units.  Any suggestions?

Yes. It's called a phone. Connect, dial, and record. NM
NM
Express Scribe is very easy. Files download, you will see them, click on one and it starts when you
press your pedal.  That simple.
No dial tone? No foot control? What's wrong? Are all parts plugged in? Is your phone

Need Company that Turns Telephone Dictation into WAV/DSS Files

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good company that will take my client's telephone dictation and convert them into WAV or DSS files that I can then access and transcribe?. A company that has good pricing and is reliable.  I probably won't have a huge volume to start.  Thank you.

Follow up regarding C phone dictation post below sm

Went to the Urology Clinic this morning.  The doctors are dictating on a C-phone to a transcription service and they are transcribing the reports and sending them back to the office for me to QA.  I download the files, check them, print and save.  My questions is how can I have them route these files to  my home computer.    Wouldn't the transcription service have to send the files to me so that I can access the site on online with a user name and password?  Can I do this through AOL or do I need to use Internet Explorer.  Anything else I would need?  Just need some input, because this current Editor may not come back and I may be taking on their actual transcription also.  Big Company.  Don't want to loose this one.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Recording files from C-phone to tape???

Hi, has anyone ever recorded files from a C-phone onto cassette tapes?  I have an account that is accessed via C-phone.  I am going to be going out of town for a couple days and wanted to record some work to take with me.  Can this be done?  I have a Lanier micro-cassette player and a Dictaphone C-phone.  Is there an attachment of some sort that could accomplish this?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

Need some clarification on C-phone dictation and some websites for urology sm
I will be covering the transcription for a urology clinic.   I was briefly told that the doctors dictate to a C-phone that  goes directly to a base office.  Then the file is e-mailed to their office where they can access the dictation.   Does this sound right or are they accessing the file from the base office through FTP and then downloading it.  Also, doesl AOL work OK to access files or do you need another FTP provider.  Not sure how they are doing the work, but any help would be appreciated.  Need some good website for urology,  Just want to be prepared.   Always ask the experts!  Thanks.
Cell phone dictation in the middle of the night
First, they are inaudible, and they are so tired that they forget where they are at and backtrack or forget parts of the surgery. Then you have to figure out what they are saying when yawning and everything else. Also, I hate it when there are screaming kids or a bunch of people in the background that are louder than the dictators, and the dog is barking like crazy. Ambulances: Why do doctors dictate in front of ambulances when the siren is going?
WAV files are better. No dialing in. No tying up your phone line.
Sound quality is good.
Help -- Sample report for phone interview dictation such as insurance

Hi! I am testing for a job and I understand the dictation as I did medical transcription for 2 years but this is a telephone interview with a person (insurance type deal) I believe. I have no idea how to format. Can anyone out there point me in the direction of samples for this sort of thing? Do I just keep switching paragraphs for each person talking in the conversation? Rules and regulations for this please.

Thank you!

Lisa

Love wav files. No extra phone line needed,
no LD charges, and love being able to sit on my porch on a nice day and work.
You need something to play the files like free download of Express Scribe. Need to play with your
s
All things being equal, do you prefer to work with a C-phone or use WAV files over the internet? sm
What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of each.  I have only ever used a c-phone but think I may bet getting ready to use WAV files and foot pedal for an account and am a little anxious!  TIA
I was told I would dial directly into the system/Will I need to get dial up internet service?

Converting voice files to digital files

I have a Voice Solutions dictation system that will happily convert DS4000 voice files to digital when they are downloaded (wave files). However, it will not recognize any other files for conversion. I had a physician download .WAM files from his DS-30 and my dictation system would not convert it. Anyone have any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks!!!

Download antikeylogger from download.com.

I haven't tried it yet, but it's got good reviews and a 10-use trial.

Did you save files in .rtf format? The files need to be
as a Word document or it won't count them. Could be the problem.
FTP Server

Can anyone tell me what FTP Server is, and how I can find out what type I have.

Thanks

FTP Server
Does anyone know who might rent space on an FTP server?
FTP server
I have been using an FTP server since 2001. There was absolutely no cost (as I said above I found the software on a free site as it was new). The FTP server software is located on my computer so a webpage is not needed. They upload to that computer from their office by plugging the recorder in. Once plugged in, it automatically connects to my server and uploads. Not difficult at all.
You are most likely on their server.

either your ISP is not working or MQ server is down.
Call tech support.  They may need to reset your ID.  Right now I'm on DQS.
My expansions on MQ's server
Conditions at my local MQ ofc have deteriorated to the point where I am ready to throw in the towel and look elsewhere.  My question:  I am using my own computer.  Is it possible to retrieve/print out my Expanders and shortcuts that I made up myself before I leave.  I've only worked for MQ, and imagine I've accumulated over 2000 of these shortcuts.   I know they are on my hard drive, but I have no program that will enable me to access them.  Does anyone know of any such animal?  Secondarily, has anyone ever left one MQ ofc for another, or just plain asked to be switched to other accounts.  TIA
server issues
I work for a large national and we have servers down, programs down, instand messager down pretty often.  And, no we get paid nothing for downtime even when it's the company's fault.  Really sucks!
Server problems
We have the same issue on our hospital lines using Citrix.  Too many people on and it gets really slow, locks up, and kicks us off.  Every time they work on Cerner or Citrix I have problems.
Silly me. It is the server. Still would like
asdf
I don't believe this is a secure server.

Having said that, if you encrypt any files BEFORE uploading to their server, you should be OK. There is a webpage where you can ask specific questions--the link is below.

Call in server
We are looking for a call in system for a couple of doctors. Does anyone know of a place that will rent space on one? or any suggestions?
No coffee yet this morning. You said it was on the server.
On the one hand, if it's on the server and not on your computer, perhaps your supervisor only has it installed to make sure nobody is hacking the system.  Maybe your supervisor doesn't even know it's there, but I doubt that.  I'd want to be sure it didn't get on my computer, but you sound savvy since you're already running anti-spyware software.  How would I feel knowing my supervisor was spying on me?  Well, I have nothing to hide.  I would never do anything I shouldn't be doing on her server.  Then again, I'm not some infant hacker that needs to be monitored.  (I'm not a hacker at all, for that matter!  LOL  Oy....Where's the java?)  Most of my former employers used to monitor what we did with our computers with regard to email and the Internet.  I have nothing to hide, but if they can't trust me, they can bite me.
Curious about a server as our office is getting one

Is the main reason to get a server to monitor employees on the internet? I know there are bound to be other reasons, but our boss is getting a server for our office and says that is the reason. He's a real jerk, by the way. He didn't even want any of us to have email. He really doesn't want us working in the 21st Century mode and he is a computerophobic! I'm curious as to all the advantages of a company having their own server. He tried to take the internet off my computer because "you are the only one doing transcription (PHI) on the computer" which was bull in itself, but he's afraid of "someone getting into our info" even though we have protection.

Do you think it's more from the Meditech software or the server? (sm)
Thanks for the information! I went to the Meditech website, and of course they act like it's the quickest thing since greased lightening.

By archiac functions, do you mean it doesn't use a mouse? May I ask what company you are using it with? I'd be happy using ShortHand, but I would also want to load other programs unless it is already loaded up with everything. I may return to acute care, and if I do I'll want speed and tools, so I don't want to jump aboard the wrong ship.

They are stored on both the local server you..
work from as well as on the hard drive in your PC.  You "should" be able to access it when you sign in with your ExText UserID on another PC...however, I have seen it happen to people before..either in the process of switching PCs and/or even just a glitch in the local server that causes a loss on their end of the file, it is always best to save a copy of your entire .esp file to a disc.  If you use it regularly it probably has a ton of entries and you would be very sorry to lose them all, takes forever and a day it seems to re-enter everything.  (Been there, done that)
There is a difference between SOFTWARE and SERVER.

Software is the computer program which interfaces between your computer and the off-site computer that "holds" the voice files and documents. The off-site is called a server and secure space is not usually free--you will have to pay some sort of usage fee for uploads/downloads, usually based on the either the space or bandwidth used.

There are other free sites like www.xdrive.com or www.box.net but they do not require the use of FTP software to upload/download. Box allows 1GB but does not appear to be secure; Xdrive allows 5GB and claims to use 128-bit encryption.

Hope you find this helpful.

P.S. If you've never connected to this server before sm
there is a lot of info you will need...your MTSO will have to supply that.
